Hey guys I was running nxt 1.3 on the Xperia play and at first it was running games pretty smooth. Then I started restoring my old games and downloading more apps. All of a sudden the games have become very slow and lag badly. I increased my overclock frequency to 1.6 GHz and games were a little smoother but still unacceptable. I was getting about 17 fps in vice city, 23 in real racing 2 and about 24 in modern combat 3.
I couldn't take it anymore so I returned to stock and I flashed doomkernel and now I have overclock frequency of 1.2 and here's the fps scores .
24 GTA vice city, 27 real racing 2 and 33 modern combat 3.
Please return to stock. And get the best gaming performance
hmm.

Well I am a bit new here too . But as far as I know , I think u can remove bloatware by rooting and using root explorer. I was gonna flash Nxt rom because essentially its cutted stock rom so in theory it should be better. But quite a few ppl like you seem to be returning to stock and finding it better for gaming. So i did make a question about it too ( which u can see) but havent got satisfactory answer yet . I think I might have to just flash nxt myself and compare performance with stock :s. Btw, I think considering Lupus is still developing for our phones and doomkernel isnt maybe u should give Lupus a try .
xdark
you could also try XDark ICS V0.2 Rom, i find gameplay on this quite good, i got quite a lot of lag on NXT. I use Doomkernel V3. Also Darkforest ICS is good, but i like Xdark as it is closer to sony stock look.

I wouldn't use ICS for Gaming, since (even) Temple Run is lagging very hard... (never tried, but people tell Temple Run is lagging..)
I advise you to use Cow Rom v2 OC because it's overclocked to 1,8GhZ (make sure you download the OC Version!), which should be more than enough for Games like for example. Modern Combat 3. The rest of the Rom is fast, too. Not only gaming of course.
BUT(!), don't expect the Battery Life Time to be high..! 1,8GhZ is alot... and that will eat alot of battery...
You got to keep that in mind, and come over it if you want really good gaming...
Im not a gamer at all, not playing anything ! Busy with school, Photography, Design etc. So I don't need that, and can't give you a really "good" advise, but I told you what I think could be the best Rom for Gaming.
Enjoy Gaming

It means overclocked.
It tweaks your processor to run at higher speed, which means, your device will process data faster than usual

Normal Version is 1,4GhZ
OC (Ovetclocked) is 1,8GhZ
For gaming you need 1,8 GhZ

Thanks For all you guys for helping me.:highfive::good:
As I know, Cow kernel is only better in benchmarking, those ROM with stock XXLM8 kernel may be better a bit in term of battery life & real performance (ps: if the game requires a lot of processing power, the OC kernel such as Cow will be better, anyway the original 1.4GHz is already powerful enough for quite a number of games, mostly it lags because SGW is lack of RAM)
Please think twice before overclocking as it may reduce your CPU&GPU lifespan
Good luck
Hey guys
I'm a owner of a LG Optimus 4X and just like you guys we have issues in ICS with some games with dropped frame rates and lags, especially in gameloft games...
I know that nVidia updated (finally) their sources for Tegra 3 in Jelly Bean and finally supporting the 3.x.x kernel tree...
Did it get any better? Are games finally running good?
Our hope is that Jelly Bean with a new kernel can save us...
Thanks!
I guess this is the best way to put it. I'm using ICS hox (stuck with h3g so no jb for me >.< ) anyway my cousin is using JB hox ,so in simple operations ( no games ) his hox is way faster ,but if we get into NFS MW hes HoX laggs constantly while mine laggs only on 1 map for around 10 sec with car road block every other map works perfect. Also i must mention he is using stock kernel while i'm using NCX 1.2 ghz kernel and undervolted -250 at some freqs, so it's kinda wierd that my phone works at 1.1ghz (4 cores ) and doesn't lag lol. Also i don't use any scripts for NFSMW for boosting it up. And lastly when i use faux's kernel 11VF 1.6ghz and renovate gaming boost my phone is nearly fast as his in almost everything, as for games mine is clearly way faster, tho battery dies in 2 hours or less lol. As for Modern Combat 4 he has some FPS drops but playable while for me works great. Btw if your device isn't HoX doesn't mean it will be the same for you + since now kernel source is realeased i'm sure when our great devs start making custom kernels JB will be way better then ICS. Hope this answeres your question and helps =)
Not sure but NFS MW runs way better on my note 10.1

Basically. After the disappointment of Airborne not being available for our lovely phones I have decided to to dig out my old Xperia Z again and start using that with the JXD again for my main android fix. Just bought my missus a Galaxy S4 clone which is amazing so we happen to have a 'spare' Z lol).
Anyway, what would people recommend specifically for gaming. I want to Tory the extreme kernel for 2.3ghz gaming so want a Rom to compliment it. Do people recommend stock? Heard about cola Rom but this is only CDMA isnt it?
Also, I know there's a safelist of things that can be removed but is there an extreme one that lists everything that can go like phone.apk etc, just leaving the google framework stuff?
It's a shame but this Gameloft ditching us thing is :'(

Now, back to Asphalt, even if the game is not available in Google Play, Gameloft include full support for Xperia PLAY controls and if you decompile the APK you will see the required line for Xperia PLAY Suite support.

Wow, I'd hate to see what you say to your kids when they get a spelling wrong. "Excuse me, you are wrong!". There are more polite ways to say it. As for Asphalt, I would only buy it from Google Play store, I cannot, therefore the game is not compatible with my PLAY, regardless of whether Gameloft implemented XP support or not. Other people will also face this issue.
I think this thread has run its course. Thanks for the help guys

I have tried the game. It fully supports game pad and touch pad but it's so laggy. The game is so heavy that our play can't afford to play it. I wonder why they support xplay but they don't optimise the game for xplay's low hardware.

Yes, this game is SO heavy, but after I've seen on youtube, it's not a CPU but a RAM game. With 315 MB the game runs fine.
Gameloft was probably going to support Xperia PLAY but after tests they decide not to sell it in Google Play because it requires SO MUCH more RAM than stock ROM.

ya its a ram game, also dont underestimate the stock rom, i can get 240mb ram nicely, , but im using a 720p kernel, and maby with extreme kernel 000p on stock it would be best, but wifi modules dont work on stock atm,
EDIt
Just tested how much ram i can get, i can get 260mb ram with using the App Quarantine, but this is without killing anything...
when killing some bg apps (stock keyboard and some stuff) i can gain 280mb, (720p Lupus v12.5 Kernel, Will swapp to ExtremeKernel on -r3 when Wifi modules work properly on stock rom... , if he fixes it...)
Just tried on extreme kernel 000p on very low and low settings too. After started racing its laggy for 5-10 secs but after that its playable, smooth, and there's no lag. With this kernel i usually have around 300 mb ram. Its so cool I use xElite gamer 1.8, Its great too, thanks @Pizza_Dox !:fingers-crossed:
about the game: Its seams to be a really nice, but i cant understand it why it consums so much ram. Probably because the big tracks??
IMO these graphics are not the best i've ever seen on my play, but its good at all. Keep it up Gameloft!
Must be a bug... Maby some things within the game or bad optimization!

I'm sure I'm not the only person here, that likes (or loves) to play some games at free time on HOV... but, unfortunately, my question about games performance in few ROMs threads was left without answer, I decided to begin this thread
I was playing (or trying to play) mainly 3 games:
Dead Space - it's old game, but may surprise
Eternity Warriors 2 - one of the newer games... but part 3 is coming
Traffic Racer - not demanding game
I was trying also:
Dead Effect - new, nice looking game... but greatly optimized for weaker phones, too With lowest video settings I was able to play without any lags... but setting shaders to maximum caused lags even on Nexus 4
Galaxy on Fire 2 - I was playing non-HD version
Aralon: Sword & Shadow
NFS Hot Pursuit
NFS Most Wanted
Six Guns
Deprofundis: Requiem
GTA III Ultra Performance Ripped
GTA VC
Wild Blood

Games that are not working and won't work:
Asphalt 8 (?)
NBA 2k13
NBA 2k14
DeusEX
Real Boxing
Ravensword: Shadowlands
GTA SA (it's working, but with huge lags on the lowest video settings)
Dungeon Hunter 2 (we need GB ROM and kernel to play it )
N.O.V.A. 2 (we need GB ROM and kernel to play it )
So, here are the results for some ROMs:
SENSE ROMS
As far as I noticed, they're the best for playing despite of they're ICS
Ignorance - the best ROM I've ever been using so far Dead Space is working without lags, same as Dead Effect, Aralon, NFS MW, NFS HP, GOF 2 and Traffic Racer. Eternity Warriors are having some lags, especially on Hell Fire dungeon, White and Black Dragon and on levels 3 nad 4 of Boss Rush, but are still playable in satisfying level... only multiplayer is laggy :/ Six Guns without lags. Deprofundis without lags with sound on medium video quality (it's the highest video settings for HOV). GTA II UP Ripped with some lags. GTA VC with lags, but it's playable for stubborn people Wild Blood is playable, but with awful graphics and lags :/
myONEv RC 9.5 - a few more lags in Eternity Warriors 2 and Dead Effect, other games are working smooth. Six Guns without lags
mySENSE - same ass myONEv
Beaver ROM - same as myONEv and mySENSE
JB ROMS
Sphongle - for me it's te best JB ROM for HOV... but Dead Space starts to lag in audio&video-demanding moments, Eternity Warriors 2 are lagging an causing discomfort while playing, NFSes are running without lags, Aralon too. Traffic Racer works without lags, Dead Effect may have problems. GOF 2 works well. Six Guns without lags. Deprofundis should work without lags on medium and with sound. GTA II UP Ripped and GTA VC should work in the same way as on Ignorance. Wild Blood is playable, but with awful graphics and lags :/
CM10 by Lloir - almost as good as Sphongle
Jelly MIUI, MiDorid, MIUI 5 by Ruling - unforunately (because I like MIUI) the most awful ROMs I've been using, especially for playing... Only Traffic Racer was playable
Additionaly - CharmKISS is having problems with games... they are just too laggy for me while using it
(For now) The best set for gaming is Titanium-KISS kernel + Ignorance ROM + Turbo Boost
Anyone is welcome to share his/her experience with other games and ROMs by writing something or PMing me, so I will edit 1st post

They say it increases performance , not sure about it though , i didnt feel any difference ....
Chainfire 3d works on HOV but i think it makes some games unplayable , eternity warriors 2 would be stuck at start image ,
Dead trigger 2 ran fine without any issues but after an update it became very laggy for which i resorted to chainfire .... but it made it unplayable

Hello there. I am a heavy Arcane Legends player which is a very demanding mmorpg game. Gaming on jb was a failure, it didn't lag only if the game was 2D, at least that was my experience with it. So i switched back to gb.
Gb is fine for the most part but Arcane Legends uses up a lot of memory so after playing a while it can get very laggy and that's when i have to restart the app. Also chainfire 3D helped me get better performance.
My question is: Is it worth upgrading from gb to cm11 for gaming performance? I don't care about ui changes or other functionalities, i want to know if its worth upgrading for gaming alone.
