Hi all,
I've got a slightly strange one here which I wasn't expecting.
My Arc S was on .6, downgraded to .4, rooted, then upgraded to .6 with root still on. So I'm on a stock ROM, and have even removed a ton of unnecessary apps - otherwise, everything is as it should be.
However, where I previously got 2 days out of my Arc S, I'm now getting only about one. As before, I have background data, Wifi, Bluetooth and virtually everything else permanently turned off.
As I'm on a stock rom, and the same one that I was on before I rooted, is this normal and/or expected?
Thanks in advance,
schnide
Download a boot editor, or check the KERNEL, if you are using the stock kernel is normally. Idk how you can stay 2 days with an arc, without charging. Check the brightness.
Heck, im suprised how anyone can keep the battery last even for a day. If i fully charge the arc s, unplug it and then just leaves it there, the longest i can get is ~10hours.
I heard that arc/s battery will get better over time, maybe thats why, coz i only got mine like 4 months ago...

You can save power using apps like "green power" and cie but I'm impressed by the autonomy of your arc. Mine survives 1 day and two hours when I don't use it. You also can reset the battery stats on recovery but it's an extreme solution...
It's known issue, worse battery performance is because of .6x version

I conditioned my battery when I first bought the phone. Conflicting reports say this doesn't do anything with modern batteries, but I've always done it and had better battery life than some.

Hi everyone. I've bought my new xperia arc s on Wednesday and unfortunately I'm very disappointed with the battery performance. It is worse than my 3 years old iPhone. I've read many advices in the internet concerning this issue, but none of them gave any improvement for me. I want to emphasize, that I switched off: wifi, auto-sync, GPS & wifi localization etc. My display is at 30% of brightness. The only functions which are turned on are: 3g network and background data.
However, my smartphone needs to be charged after around 10 hours of not very heavy using (web browsing, ca. 20 minutes playing games such as angry birds or cut the ropÄ™ and 20 minutes of listening music player.
Today's performance was just tragic: 5 hours of working (less than 3.5 hours of the turned on screen; only 3g connection on). What should I do to improve these results or maybe the battery is broken and I should send the phone to the warranty service?
Thanks for help

Are you kidding me? It cannot be that bad.
My phone isn't arc s it's only arc but my battery lasts over 24 hours.
I run wifi and 3g always, usually there's over 1h of calls some web surfing and stuff. With this kinda usage it normallly last something like 36h. If i don't use phone it's over 48h.
You should check what has been using the battery.

I don't know how it's possible. I have only 3g data transfer turned on, while everything else is turned off. I checked in settings and it is screen which consumes 60%-70% of energy in my case. Is it normal? Moreover, could you tell me what is your maximum time of the screen turned on achieved without loading the battery?

Ill give u few suggestions
Turn the screen brightness to 30 40 % this will give you 4 5 hours more of stand by
Turn off 3g(data internet) it eats as much battery as the screen, use when u need it 4 6h more on stand by
GPS turn it off lol u dont need it to be turned on all the time, use it just when u need it
Im using this setup for 2 months not and its awesome im on 54% battery and the phone is charged before 21h.. i will have 30 + for sure

Hi, just some suggestions.
1. Do you use latitude?? That puts a huge dent in your battery.
2. Do you travel around during the day?? I find that my battery drops a lot quicker when the phone is forced to switch between towers a lot.
3. Try and check the date of manufacture on your battery, It may be old.
4. Did you properly condition your battery when you first got the phone (Takes about a week to do it right but well worth it in the long run)
5. See if you can borrow some one else's battery for a couple of days and see if it makes a difference?? (Isolation testing its called)
Or you could just have a bad battery, that happens.

I'm not sure how much my screen uses battery. I haven't evaluated screen always on usage.
I'm running currently at 46% 23h 3m 54s
voice calls 38% (1h 5m 20s)
wifi 19% (23h 3m 54s)
cell standby 14% (23h 3m 54s)
phone idle 12% (21h 45m 47s)
display 11% (47m 32s)
after these come other less significant stuff like Android OS, Android System, Web browser etc.
In my use are: DoomKernel v20 undervolted -75mv and Juice Defender.
I have also removed many softwares that are useless for me like support.apk etc.

It must be bad battery. If no apps are draining your batt.
read this thread get the betterbattery stats and check it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433309
it will identify it down to a specific app or a module in the kernel, where the drain is coming from.

Man, this is a problem that occours in every android phone, even those ones which have a more powerful battery.
I use an Arc S overclocked (but not too much) and the battery lifes varies a lot, depending on which kernel and which rom I use. The best battery life i've find so far was DoomKernel ICS v4 with Arconium ICS v5. But it was a little bit laggy and now I'm using KA13 with the same kernel. The battery life is not bad, but not really good.
Sony knows this issue and I'm sure they're working in order to fix this on the official release of ICS. Just wait
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
changing kernels usually helps
I am serious about to go back to GB. ICS is sucking in the category of battery life. I need to know what is going on.
I am running Re-Calk 0.1.17 with Agat 4.3 and CPU Sleeper. Took my phone off the charger at 8pm and already down to 85% with it being in nothing but deep sleep. Same thing basically happened on Blazer also.
I need something to keep me on ICS. Someone please tell me what you are using.
I have had the same issue. Ive tried many combinations of roms, kernels and tweaks but I still haven't been able to match calk's 3.0. Curious to see if anyone is getting decent battery life on ICS.
I'm getting good battery on aokp m6 but it also varies widely depending on what I do. if I play alot of games or watch alot of video I have about 10% after a 16-18hr day if I just browse and txt I go to bed between 30-50%. Only tweaks I did was disable the capacitive buttons and led by deleting their files from inside the he folder in /system
We are legion, for we are many.

I dunno, whats good for you? I am back on my trusty CM9 Nightly 7/17 which has the FF18 repack kernel which was supposed to be worse on battery life than the FF11. I get 30 hours or so on my days off or days at work when i might check the phone a couple times an hour.
Heavy usage any rom, any android version can kill an E4GT in 3 or 4 hours most days i get 6 to 8 with an hour of 100% brightness screen on time.
I am on the sprint official OTA and I avg around 13 -18 hrs with 5-6 hours screen time....could be more if I wasn't a heavy usage type

2% screen on how many minutes was ur screen on
i think the reason why Calk 3.0 have superb battery life is because the CPU is underclocked at 800Mhz instead of 1.2Ghz
Just my $0.02
I was Super Galaxy ROM for a while and my battery life wasn't ever that great
I had to take my phone in for a signal problem (which ended up being a downed tower that the Sprint rep didn't bother to mention, don't get me started) and so I flashed to GB and then did the OTA update to ICS
I've been getting awesome battery life outta this thing now.. It was a really light use day today, but I'm at 60% after 13 hours (only 1 hr of screen on-time though).. but on SuperGalaxy I would usually be at about 20% of less even with little to no screen time.. (I did love everything else about Super Galaxy though)..
But I've seen lots of people say they got horrible battery life on the OTA... (I did start from a completely clean phone though if that matters)

Sounds like something is eating up your battery. Try downloading BetterBatteryStats app. Fully charge the phone, unplug it and leave it for a while (about 1 hour). Then open the app to see what exactly is eating up your battery. You could post the BBS screenshots so we could help. Hope it works out for you.
EDIT: Besides that, you should post more info. Were you using the phone (playing games, browsing, videos) during those 3 hours or it was idle?
I noticed the same thing happening to me once, it turned out to be picasa trying to sync, using my google ID, but I don't use picasa. I was seeing 50-60% drain in four hours while idle. Check your sync settings.
When it happened it showed android system was using over 60%, battery.
I was having this issue. I could charge my phone to 100% unplug and go to sleep and 8 hours later it would be at like 10% i tried everything i mean everything even tried airplane mode it still drained. Put a custom jelly bean rom on it. Now my battery lasts all day. I just cant wait for

For me battery has been great but a few times i noticed its gets very hot and when i checked the CPU both cores were lit up at max speed draining my battery, after some googling a found this thread which explains the gsiff daemon is the culprit after a hot reboot.
No one has found what the gsiff daemon is for or what causes the ho reboot, but the solution is just use root explorer and rename the daemon so it does not run.
Have all of you having trouble with battery drain still tried looking at the term "deep sleep"? You can check that with an app called cpu spy. If your having that issue with the phone not deep sleeping, report back and i will post some ideas.
With those who do say they have deep sleep issues, post the ROM, and kernel you are on.

so lately i noticed my battery dieing super fast. the only thing i can think of it since att expanded lte in my area i basically get lte everywhere now and since then my cell standby is at 60% or higher my phone lasts about 6 to 8 hours now its very annoying... before lte it lasted a ton longer it could be a coincidence but its very frustrating if this is the cause because its pretty ridiculous
Post some screenshots of the battery so we can see more of what's going on.
If you flashed multiple ROMs on low battery then you may need to recalibrate. I did it with my GS3 and I wish I would have known about it when I had the S and S2. Download the BatteryCalibration app from the market and follow the instructions on it. I noticed I was losing battery life bad, but after this I got it back up to stock levels which is amazing.

I have faced the similar issue as your. After 3 days of constant inspection with various apps I figured out the process causing this problem.
Go to developer options and click on show cpu usage. If the top process is "gsiff daemon" then you have found the culprit. Download system tuner and kill the process and you can see that the cpu usage will go back to normal and your phone will deep sleep afterwards.
Hi guys,
I used to have an LT22i with GB, and even though I was not thrilled with its battery life, I could perfectly live with it.
Right now I'm using an LT28h with ICS, and I was expecting to get much better battery life because:
. the battery is something like 1900 mAh, rather than the LT22i's 1380 mAh
. It's running ICS instead of GB
. I know the screen is bigger, but I often use it with less brightness than the gorgeous LT22i display did
Nevertheless, my feeling is that battery life on LT28h is roughly the same as what I had with the LT22i.
I checked the battery menu and I can see that Android System is what uses the most battery. On LT22i, it was the screen.
On the battery menu, when I click on Android System, I get:
CPU total: 4m21s
Keep awake: 5h48m36s
The keep awake time seems huge!
So, I've installed BetterBatteryStats in order to find the main battery consumers included in "Android System". But BetterBatteryStats tells me that the phone is in deep sleep most of the time.
I also have installed SystemPanel but I don't see any System Processes taking away much CPU.
Any clues on what's going on here?
Thanks in advance!
Bigger screen = bigger battery consumption
Well other than that, ics use much battery

Yes..bigger screen use more battery usage..I'm suggesting you to use app Greenify to hibernate apps that always running at background..Updating to JB rom is better than ICS because it have extended battery mod..It's similar to Juice Defender..

Nop. I compared with untouched stock firmware on both. Using exactly same apps. (6 hours of different is too much)
When I bought my phone it hold for 2-3 hours with ICS (too little for a phone). But now when I use JB at least I an use for 6 hours with less usage.

Thanks in advance!

well for me battery in JB is good but battery life in ICS is way better. well you must need to have an app called greenify.. it helps you to hibernate all the apps you dont use and also you dont need that consumes the battery juices from your phone. my ICS ion .68 is indeed superb well why i love the ics rather than the jb? stock JB makes my ion freeze when using 3g/4g conectivity and most likely to happen when downloading in the play store so i used the ics which suits me way better since im an data user not a wifi user.
so try it out pal and hope it will help you..
Keep awake times of 5+ hours is definitely huge and wrong. I have had the same issue many times, usually it comes down to Google's location services. Check your location settings and see which ones are turned on, and also go into Google maps and find the settings there, it has it`s own location settings too. If no luck there, try turning off auto-sync for different apps, go into e-mail settings and click auto update every hour instead of every minute, check wifi settings to make sure it`s always on only when plugged in, because if it`s not off when your phone is sleeping and you go out it will try to find networks. Play around with it until keepawakes are under half an hour or so each day.

Hi there,
here's a screenshot of my battery usage (the fact that "screen" isn't the first one on the list is what made me try to figure out what is happening).
In terms of settings:
. Google location services are on (though not GPS). My Xperia P also had them on and "Screen" was always on top of the list
. Google maps is a bit useless without location, but I'll try to disable it... Once again, my Xperia P had Google maps location on
. I've turned autosync off for pretty much everything (and I use JuiceDefender to connect once every hour)
. e-mail is set to update once every hour
. wi-fi is only on when plugged in
Thanks.
The only other thing that's worked for me when android system or android os starts glitching with wake locks is restarting my phone right after I've finished charging it. Most of the time after doing this a couple times it seems to sort itself out.

Hi guys,
after having disabled all Location Services yesterday, battery life was not short at all - last night I still had 46% battery after a 16h40m on battery time. Nevertheless, Android System is still using 42% of battery and has a keep awake of over 6h (see attached screenshots).
Other notes:
. I don't restart the phone every morning after charging (actually I do restart the phone every night before charging) but today I did it and battery life is not appearing to be better - actually it appears to be worse
. I can't use greenify because I'm not rooted
So what is going on here exactly?
I'm out of ideas simply because android system has so many processes under its name its hard to tell which one exactly is acting up. I've put a couple screens of mine to show it is possible lol. All I got left to say is update to jelly bean and hope things get sorted out.

The strange part is... battery life is not exactly bad... it just isn't spectacular, and maybe it could be if keep awake time was less.
Note: I will update to JB only after I manage to un-soft-brick my Xperia P... just as a precaution... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262035&page=3
All the luck to you. And yea, your battery life is pretty good considering, but if you use your phone a lot and have quite a bit of screen on time then it'll all add up.

Btw what's the worry about the update? Why the precaution? Shouldn't be any reason not to update the ion

its not posible to calibrate a xperia s(L) battery , it auto calibrates, if you use battery calibaration apps, it just deletes a important file, (which may have ruined your battery)
i suggest keep letting your battery go to 0% then charing to 100% , the battery will calbrate its self

Its hard to know what can be the problem.you should try uninstalling greenify and observe the change.I observed without greenify phone usage is more but with greenify standby is more(thats what I need)
I'm having the same issue, but my phone is a Xperia V.
I have never calibrated the battery.

It might not be an issue; when you turned off your screen, battery was being eaten away and when the screen is turned on it shows the change at that time. Similar stuff happens to the clock.
If you have messed with any system files I suggest you perform a factory reset.

remove grenify.i noticed its a battery hog, instead of increasing battery life it kills battery life :fingers-crossed: i noticed the wakelocks and cpu awake less without greenify (nearly 0%).with greenify 10% per hour, without greenify 3% drain per hour, with same use.try it bro
