Arc S is definitely a good upgrade - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Xperia Arc S is a 1.4GHz CPU.
I notice the 400 MHz boost increase in some apps:
1. FPse. greatly boost FPS. Comparing 1GHz to 1.4GHz there is a huge difference. I can run Crash Team Racing smoothly on Arc S compared to Arc.
2. Drastic DS Emuator. Greatly boost FPS!
Still experimenting...
So I consider this a major boost even most says it's just a minor one. Is Acro S good?????? Thanks, I was just sharing my experience from Arc to Arc S. I have two of them I need a new Motherboard for the other one(Damaged IMEI, Flashmode fastboot and TA testpoint not working) I think... Where to get Motherboard? What is NAND in android???

Buy a Arc S with cracked display on ebay and then take the mainboard from that.

I have had an Arc S for two years now and this phone is really good. Flashed it with 4.4.2 ROM couple of days ago and it worked just fine.
I have also used Acro S and it is more powerful than the Arc S and has bigger screen and performs better with 4.4.2.
I suggest you try both and see.

[Q] would you recommend me buy an xperia arc s? why?

Hi, I'm an user of an old xperia x8 and I'm thinking in upgrade to an Arc S but I need to know a few things before, like battery life and smoothness of UI in GB and ICS (I'm not planing to install custom kernel/rom).
I've watched some reviews on youtube but the only thing I see there is people scrolling through settings, app drawer, etc... I need to know how it behave in daily use based on your experiences... I hope you can help me
thanks
best regards
What is your budget first of all?
yes i recommend it for you
talking about the battery life,,,, when i bought it i had to recharge it everyday! but as time goes on the battery performance gets better. and when you update it to ICS the battery life is improved and lasts for 4 days (normal use)

could you please define what does normal use mean for you if the same as for me (gmail sync on, some emails.. 15-25 as i use them instead of sms mainly, little bit of gaming like 30 minutes per day, maybe 15 minutes of talking and a couple of sms messages) then your results are astonishing... with such usage my phone struggles to stay unpluged for 20hrs.
anyway, as it was asked, on what rom and settings?!?!
thanks for your answers! well, my budget is enough to buy an xperia arc s, i really like the design (i could buy a Galaxy S but just do not like it). I need the battery to last at least 1 day (15~24 hours is acceptable) with 3g data on, email push notifications, whatsapp and little web browsing, I do not play games on my phone or listen to music. Anyone here using arc s with that kind of use?
thanks!
edit: oh well, a few calls also lol

i am sure it can handle that much of load for a day..samsung sucks..yesterday had a fight on S2 forum on the same topic..got a warning from Forum Mod too
It would be wise for now to go for Xperia P or U considering the same price as Arc S..
If you desire much for Arc S,then simply go for it!
+1 for Samsung sucks!
+1 for the same. Lol.

This is a wonderful cell phone but if you going to buy a new cell phone im recommend to you buy Xperia S, this is a dual core and more app better than arc s
Tbh, the Xperia s is good, but not a huge leap from the arc. Dual core is used to imply better performance, but it's the context that matters. If microsecond improvements in response really matter then go for an Xperia s, but don't look for a huge difference in performance overall then unless you're a huge gaming freak with no PSP the difference will be negligible.

[Q] Arc S become very hot

Hi all,
My girlfriend has an Arc S, and when she plays the phone becomes hot.
The phone is stock. (locked bootloader ....)
Would it be better to unlock the bootloader, to unlock like mine?
I have an Arc S also debrand, unlock bootloader ..
My Arc S virtually no heat.
Thank you in advance for your response.
(sorry for my english, I'm French ...)
Sincerely TheCrowNambourg
Is your girlfriends phone rooted? and if so has she overclocked her CPU? if not it probably has something to do with her CPU being damaged or glitched
Thank you for your response.
Not his phone is not root, and not overcloker either.
I have not done anything on it, at least not yet. lol
Since it is still under warranty, can be a return to sav?
return the phone if its still under warranty and unmodified and get it replaced with another Arc/Arc S

you can't overclock processor without custom kernel, and can't install an custom kernel without bootloader unlocked.

it is normal to become hot because the processor is hight demand.
So it would be normal as it is boiling?
A return guarantee would be necessary?
thank you very much for your response.
its normal for tha Arc to become very hot from the upper of the back i have the same phone so dose three of my frinds and all have the same proplem it gets very hot when you open wifi or internet in general or play games or make long calls on the phone but switching the network to GSM only and reduce brightnes of the screen to about 80% and turning off wifi help reducing the heat
My Arc S doesnt get hot at all and i have CM7.2 flashed and underclocked, this might help your girlfriends problem
-root phone
-install a custom kernel (may not be needed for underclocking)
-underclock the phone (reducing heat on the phone, not recommended if you play 3D graphiced games)
that should make it less hotter... hope this helped
Ok, thank you very much for your answers.
Since it plays a Kinectimals, it is not advisable to underclocked?
it is still recommended to root and install custom kernel and rom just to make it less hot.. of course, dont forget the better battery life too!
i'm using jj hybrid with arcknight kernel and ever since, have not really notice any abnormal amount of heat while using the phone as compared to last time using stock kernel and rom
My Arc Pure White also hot near camera area when gaming and use in long time. I still use stock firmware 2.3.4 build .42 and still warranty.
arc s getting hot is a normal thing when browsing or playing games or using 3G..it is not abnormal..people who says their arc s doesnt get hot at all probly never played any games..so guys chill...any hardware will get hot if it is under stress..

Yes, it becomes hot... You don't even know how much after overclocking. It's normal, don't worry.
On cm7 it never got heat up but on gb and ics mainly while charging and gamingbor both it become to hot near camera n i think its common not an issue
Reducing kernal speed to 1 ghz mayb the solution bcz in cm it is the default speed

Xperia Play turns off unexpectedely.

Hello. My Xperia Play was given to my girlfriend who fell in love with this phone more than I did, literally!
But she started to experience some problems with this device, problems that had never happened to me. Whenever she plays Vice City or any other "huge" and "ram eating" game (Vice City more often), after playing an hour or even less the phone suddenly freezes and self-reboots (a kind of hot reboot, because the "Xperia" logo shows instantly). It's very strange, because she uses the same software configuration that I was using: NXT ROM v1.3 and Lupus kernel v4, no OC, no UV. But! I've bought her a 1800mAh battery by Mugen Power which she is using for 2 months (because on stock battery the phone lasted for 5/6 hours even when it was in deep sleep).
Can you help me? I tried almost everything - changing kernels (domkernel v13 with no GPU OC, and then lupus v4), changing ROM (stock and then NXT)... I haven't tried supercharger. Maybe it's the battery's fault?

Try replacing the flex cable.
I think its just lack of ram android likes to reboot when its ram gets low it does this to free it up

I already did that. Also I replaced LCD because it was cracked.

This is why I say Free RAM is not wasted RAM.
RAM gets full when play those games and the phone reboots.
Plus NXT and NXT Lite ROMs are not the best for gaming.
Flash DiXperia 2 Everlasting ROM and close running services then run the game.

Poor 3D graphic performance

Why do my my XS have such bad 3d performance? Even Fruit Ninja lags littlebit. AnTuTu benchmark says at 3D test 5-6 fps and my bro's sgs2 is at least 25 fps.
I am running Erachter v5 rom and
xsx kernel v6. I have tried cm10 and pac rom. No help.
Is this possible to fix because this phone is(thats what i have understood more powerful than sgs2 or was i wrong?

i dont have any poblem, every game runs smoth, so you have maybe SW problem...

Is there any rom that is good performance and have hdmi out, camera and video recording sound and stuff working. Because i use those all the time. Any advice?

True, if you're having issues and need a benchmark to start from, I'd stick with the stock ROM until documented testing had been done.
The XPERIA LT26i using an Adreno 220 only gives about 7.2avg and maybe peaks of 8.9FPS using AnTuTu test(OpenGL 2.0)
The Adreno 220 GPU is reported to be considerably stronger than the Mali400-MP GPU, but Samsung seem to 'pimp' their GPUs for higher performance.
HOWEVER, you're comparing the Samsung Galaxy SII 480 x 800 ~217 ppi SD (Standard Definition) screen with an XPERIA LT26i 720 x 1280 HD ~342 ppi (High-Definition) screen.
Plus, there is a fair chance your bro's SGSII is running Samsung supplied JB 4.1 and colour me stupid, but I'm not always sure if you're going see GPU improvements(Hardware Acceleration etc)[clarification needed] in XPERIA S ports to JB before the official Sony release becomes available.
So, yes, technically the XPERIA LT26i is a stronger phone however with graphics FPS, it's gimp'd with the larger screen.
Fingers crossed we see some GPU performance gains in the upcoming Sony JB 4.1.2 release (when it comes)
I've just started using [KERNEL][ICS/MIUI][3.0.8] RaymanFX' ELiTE - V2 | STABLE | SMOOTH | BALANCED on a stock rooted 6.1.A.2.55 ROM and the CPU-GPU-OC Kernel does gives some real world improvements. I ran the Epic Citadel benchmark with and without the GPU modified kernel and the difference over a stock kernel in this given test is approx 3-4FPS increase with both Kernel CPU clocked at the same speed/governor/scheduler. I know it's not much, but still, better than being smacked in the face with a maggoty cat.
Oh and the bonus is that you get to keep GPU HW acceleration, which is not always the case in some of these mod'd Kernel/ROMs.

[Q] to upgrade or to root

Hi, I am having a dilemma as titled. I am getting increasingly frustrated by the low RAM and poor battery life (with hot phone) of my Xperia S (on B.1.96 latest firmware). I use Whatsapp a lot and it couldn't keep itself in memory if I launch/run Chrome at the same time. The push notification is still there but it will load again to get into the conversation page. Does custom ROM provide much better memory handling to allow better management? My Nexus 7 feels just fine even both devices run on 1GB RAM (of course Nexus 7 has more cores, but I think it doesn't affect memory management.)
Living in Malaysia, where temperature is generally higher also doesn't help the phone, which gets hot very easily. It gets hot easily and drains battery - I could get something as ridiculous as getting 5 minutes on screen time but already went through 40% of the juice after half a day. I don't believe there is anything to do with stupid background apps as I screen my apps pretty vigorously on their efficiency and most of them are inherited from my older HTC Desire - which has no background apps problem for me. I believe it's definitely a firmware issue but I am not sure how much can custom ROM fix in that department?
Should I upgrade? My current shortlist will be either an Xperia Z1 or a HTC One. I still admire HTC phones a lot and the One certainly does very well to impress me. My main concern is on its aluminium as I'll definitely opt for the black option, it may reveal scratch and scuff very easily. Z1 looks to be an impressive phone but I am slightly worried with its increased size and weight. I always try to handle phones in one hand to see if I could drag down the notification bar without reshuffling my fingers and the HTC One is as probably the largest I could take. But the extra battery, on-screen button (a plus for me) and water-resistant ability keeps me pretty interested (especially Sony Malaysia is bundling the dock together).
Will rooting and custom ROM solve my frustration? Or I am better off upgrading to a proper flagship?

That is one of the options but how much improvement it warrants? It baffles me that the Nexus 4 has twice the mileage my Xperia S could get - sure there's hardware and firmware difference and 300mAh difference, but it still does not make much sense to me. The Xperia S has not had good battery life and I must keep it charged whenever I have the chance.

I suggest you unlock your bootloader and flash Pongnamu's PureSlim from the development forum. It did wonders to my battery life and it lasts a day with moderate-heavy usage.
