CWM touch crash? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Alright, so I've downloaded CWM touch version 5.8.1.3 on my Galaxy s2 (SGH-T989). I've flashed with Odin v 1.3 as well ( for complete list of steps, you can search for the download process by searching CWM Touch 5.8.1.3 on the main threads).
The "touch" aspect works like a charm, although there are some annoyances. In this touch version, there is no "on screen" back option. The only way to go back is to use the capacitive button on the device. However whenever I use this button, the screen freezes, and then goes black. The end result is the screen coming back on to the start screen of the recovery. It does the same thing as well whenever i use the old methods of input (volume up, volume down, and power)
If anyone has any ideas for this please, feel free. This is more of a nuisance than a problem, so please do take your time. I look forward to any replies.

Scratch that info about Odin. I'm actually running Odin v 3.7

Why are you on such an old version of CWM? Try a new version in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893464

Thank you so much! I had to completely erase the touch recovery that I was using, because it had a problem where you could not flash anything else from the SD card. So I had to reflash ClockworkMod recovery (non touch) so I could flash the touch on top of it. Thank you so much for your help.

Well the.best thing you can.probably.do is Odin dk28. Then root and.try again. Something had to have happened in your flash.

ROM manager stuck?

I'm flashing a new ROM on my wife's Dinc, and I go into recovery mode through ROM manager and when I try to do anything, I only get the ROM manager logo in the center of the screen. I can back up to the main menu, but in order to reboot the phone I have to pull the battery. I would just flash the ROM through ROM manager, but I need to flash the ROM, and the gapps also. I don't think it will let me do both, plus I like to wipe everything myself before I flash. Any idea why this is happening?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Recovery for a broken "volume up" button

My volume up button is broken on my sister's phone so and I was wondering if there was a touch recovery for flashing new ROMs on her phone. Is there anything out there like that for the EVO?
Use smelkus mod recovery 4.3
Best one out there. Use the bottom buttons of the phone to navigate thru it
I believe the Team Win Recovery Project has touch screen support

Cwm touch is also available. I don't really care for it personally. I like amon ra best but in your case, cwm touch will work ok for you

[Q] Am I bricked?

I have Team Venom's JellyBombed Ver 13. I did a battery pull to swap batteries and ever since I cannot boot, not even into recovery. When I boot I get the Samsung, then the Samsung Galaxy 3 logos but then screen goes black except for the soft menu and back keys on the bottom which are illuminated.
Please help.
I don't think that you bricked your phone, from what I understand and I could be wrong but long as it boots to your splash screen you aren't bricked. I would check the battery contact pins if your swapping battery's your increasing the potential of damage occurring . or even the batteries themselves. I don't think its a software issue. You can try Odin if you have it. Odin should be able to read the com port without the battery in the phone..if it can read it you can go foward and install a deoxdex rooted stk. Odin flashable tar. And start over ...good luck. , Hope this helps

Damn I got into cwm recovery and tried to do a wipe data/factory reset.... it immediately displayed a green android with the blue thing spinning - it seems to be hanging - afraid to pull battery and try again....
Have you tried other cwm functions.? Or maybe a nandroid restore?

I can't believe I did not think to try that - nandroid restore - trying a restore...... damn memory lapse
My most recent pre issue nandroid backup is a little old... a little over a month but I did a Titanium backup more recent so hopefully if I get things going I can restore from there....
Thanks.
Just go to download mode (volume down home and power buttons at the same time) and use odin go to stock

I'm going to have to agree with this your best option is to plug into your computer and flash to stock from Odin. Usually the phone is not completely bricked unless it's totally unresponsive. I recently bricked one my self ... The only time you need to worry if you can't get to a splash screen, can't boot into recovery or download mode mine was totally done when I plug it in it wouldn't even charge for sure charge indicator and when you push the power button there was no vibration to indicate it was starting.

Maybe the NFC of the baterry is bad and if the phone is trying to "read" it you may be stuck on boot. Replace the battery again.

Thanks for everyone that offered suggestions.
Fortunately, I was able to boot into recovery, restore an old android nandroid, wipe, flash Jellybomb, and then use titanium to selectively restore from the post corruption Nandroid I was able to make. I lost some data but Im back and running.
I think I have an aftermarket battery that is bad too.

What recovery are you using?

This isn't a "which is better" thread. Just curious as to what recovery everyone is using and why. I tried out Philz touch recovery and it was awesome, but it was really slow when it came to creating and restoring backups. Did anybody else experience this?

TWRP because it was recommended by different devs and stayed with it because it never gave me an issue as of yet.
I just used TWRP 2.6 and had to go down to TWRP 2.5 because it was sooooo laggy. Everything seems to work good now.

I use them all.

I'm on TWRP 2.6 and, unlike many, have experienced zero problems.... aside from unintentionally wiping internal storage a few times due to the rearranging of the wipe menu from 2.5.x. I've tried CWM and Philz Touch, but I've become so accustomed to TWRP because that's the only recovery I used on my previous device and was the 1st I flashed on the S4.
TWRP 2.5.0.2
I'm on TWRP cause a lot of people were recommending it. Had Clockworkmod on my Xperia Play, It's good too. You can't really go wrong with either of those. But, I noticed with TWRP, it has a touch screen interface, it's a little clumsy in navigation and will take some getting used to, to browse directories, that's my only real complaint.
Clockworks free recovery, (i think they charge for their touchscreen version) is navigated usually by volume rocker, i prefer that than touch. I know i'm weird like that. =P

As somebody who came from ClockworkMod recovery (since the Froyo days), I was interested in trying touch recovery. I tried clockworkmod touch but it just didn't feel right. I then tried team win recovery project and the interface seemed light years ahead of clockworkmod. Needless to say, I've been on team win recovery project ever since.

I've been using TWRP 2.5.0.2. for months without any issues.
2.6.0.0 has had issues of which I don't know if they've been resolved yet. There is a TWRP thread which you can always check out.
If you use Goo Manager to install TWRP, 2.6.0.0 will be installed by default. Then if you are having issues, you'll have to use ODIN and install 2.5.0.2.
To install TWRP 2.5.0.2 with ODIN, here is the file:

If you need the steps on how to install TWRP via ODIN, let me know
It seems like everyone, including me, is using some version of TWRP.

The only issue I seem with twrp 2.6.0.0
Is it takes an unusual amount of time for the recovery to boot up on the s4
Like 30 seconds..
And especially a long time on the gN2
Like a minute or so...

Phil's CWM Touch best cwm out there.
Philz Touch
I use Philz Touch on my S3 and S4. Highly customizable CWM with support for the Aroma File Browser.
I don't have any problems that I've noticed with TWRP 2.5.0.2 taking too long to load. I did also try philz touch but I found myself hitting the wrong stuff all the time. I almost wiped everything on my phone (including internal storage) lol. I noticed it was slower than TWRP when making backups also, takes a loooong time for me.

I thought I broke my phone when I put TWRP 2.6 on it. I rooted the phone with oudhs and right away wanted TWRP as that is what I use on all my Android devices. When it appeared hung at the splash screen I panicked. It was stuck trying to boot to recovery when powering on so I put oudhs back on with Odin. Glad to hear I can use an older version and will now get back in TWRP.

With TWRP 2.5.0.2, Recovery boot time is:
- 10s between vibrate & TeamWin screen
- 8s between TeamWin screen and Recovery screen
Total is approx. 18s
I use Quickboot to boot into Recovery:
- 6s between pressing Recovery and the vibrate alert.
Quickboot used to be quicker on my S3, which was about 2s instead of 6s..
Am I the only one who's on cwm? I've used twrp a lot and I switched over to cwm. At least for now.
