[Q] Running single core or dual core? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a question here.
As the voltage for running a core and four core at 1.6ghz is the same, is it ok to lower it t 1ghz so that it save more juice and it will normally running at dual core. Is it OK to do so?
What's your opinion?

Why run single core or dual core on a great and efficient quad core beast? It won't really make a difference in battery life because then the cpu's would be under more strain than usual. Although it MIGHT save battery, but not THAT much. Underclocking and undervolting is still probably the best solution you can do if you want even more battery life. But do utilize all 4 cores of this device.

Omg?! Single core use more battery than quad core? I turn it to 1.6ghz single core and move the page up down so.that the CPU is always 100%. And I turned the quad core and do the same things. And realized that the power used is double for single core.

I believe certain cpu governors can disable spare cores in low activity. Like hot plug, abyssplug and pegasusq.

Xperia PLAY or HTC Sensation XL

Play or XL. Getting a bit bored of the PLAY now
The Sensation XL has a hideous design, its dpi is so low it reminds you of a low end phone, and it's got nothing over any dual core phone out there. Save your cash for something else, because HTC has put out a lot of garbage and underwhelming hardware in 2011.
The same CPU with different clock frequency
Get a windows phone or iphone. You wont see a massive difference by just switching to another android

If you liked the controller, just wait for another play to be released. Or wait for a quad core phone

The Sensation has a Dual Core CPU and Adreno 220. We have Single Core CPU and Adreno 205.

we are talking about the sensatio xl wich does not have dual core.
Sensation XL is 1.5ghz SINGLE CORE with Adreno 205.
so hes correct, its basically a bit higher clocked than the play and thats it.
as far as a few web searches is able to tell me anyways.

that would indeed be the logical train of thought.... HTC didn't agree apparently...
So its PLAY all the way
Why do they even make single core anymore?

Even still, a lot of PC software doesn't have complete support for dual core (much less quad core) processors... Why would cellphone software be any better than PC software... ?

Games to truly use S3 power?

Just wondering if there are any games that take full advantage of the quad core chip and Mali GPU?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Games like Nova 3 are heavy gpu eaters but it isnt optimized for quad core cpu's for that well have to wait till such game comes out. As in my opinion cpu doesnt have much effect on gaming performance

Don't bet your head on this one.The S2 plays Tegra 3 games(All I've tried and worked) without sweating too much without even the need to be overclocked.I don't see the reason why they would be hard to play for the S3.Games like NOVA 3 do tax the system too much.I think Gameloft's games aren't as well coded as Dead Trigger for example though.
Anyway,if you want to use the full power of the S3,wait some months until Gameloft releases a game with the Unity Engine they teased the other day.I think that will be worth talking about.

Asphalt 7
The new gameloft games Nova 3 and Asphalt 7 actually look really impressive with all the motion blur effects and stuff. Who needs a ps vita^^ But my SGSIII gets really hot when i play them for a longer time, makes me feel a little uncomfortable Altough i never run into any freezes or anything so far...
I tried GTA 3 and it looks amazing with all graphics settings turned up to their highest. Resolution all the way up and Frame Limiter turned off.
Amazing.

[Q] Note 2 Quad or Dual CPU

Does the T-mobile Note 2 really have Quad Core? I'm not fooling for next trick ''Quad core quad core'' Boom T-mobile and all of USA get Dual-Core and old Overclocked GPU. I have S3 at the moment and considering selling it for Note 2 (Yes I do lot of crap so big screen would be useful, don't suggest iPad I had it already this thing can't even do 2 things at time)
Yes. It has a quad core processor.

I'm still gonna flash some custom ROM, Bloatware is a curse
I have Note 2 and Ipad 3, if you're jailbroken try downloading Quasar. It's pretty amazing.

Exynos 5

Its rumored that the S4 and N3 will have Exynos 5 Octa CPU, Mali-T658 (8-Core) GPU, 2GB of RAM . Is this harware good enough to run PS2 emulator and Xbox 1 emulator?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
What you have now is more than enough. Exynos four is plenty powerful

If the s4 is coming out next month, then maybe they won't have the 8 core chip yet. To soon to make it to market

That's what everyone said about a quad core. Yet here we are.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
big.LITTLE does not activate all eight cores at the same time towards a task.
You will either get quad-core Cortex-A15 performance (heavy loads) or quad-core Cortex-A7 performance (light loads).
Gaming system emulation is limited by the CPU, not the GPU. The Exynos 5 will be a step up but probably not enough.
Wont effect battery life as long as propper governors are set and the batter is atleast 2700 (I now thats smaller than ours but so will the entire sg4 compared to the gn2)... inter-processor fluidity, gui, screen size, android version, etc should better battery life as well
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Like I said. You do understand that these telephones pack enough processing power if not more than the original PS had. Probably. I haven't actually checked but I'm pretty sure Thad note 3 will handle emulating ten year old games....
The question that should be being asked is if someone can develop an emulator that isn't buggy as hell
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The entire purpose of the octa core is to improve battery. When the device doesn't need to run at high power the second 4 cores a low power arm 7 will take over. The are saying it will improve battery by 70%. I will have to see that to believe it but if they say 70% I bet we can count on gaining at least 40% which would be awesome.

I just can't wait for KLP. I was reading they are going to optimize it for quad core cpu's and will also do allot of battery optimization. This phone here, the Note 2 is a beast of a phone as it is. The battery life is great, the screen is amazing and I've been using the s-pen more and more and I like it much more then I thought I would.
Yeah the S4 will be nice but the Note 3, that will be amazing. Kinda like the s3 then the Note 2 comes out with better everything and a much better screen. I can't handle pen tile screens.

Also, if you look at the USA s3, is dual core and it still packs more then enough power. That's why when KLP comes out and we get it rolled out to us. Our battery life will be even better then it is now since it will be quad core optimized.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Gaming emulation still requires power since it's running on another Os. A reason you don't see xbox 360 or ps3 emulations atm.

KLP on the note 2 will be amazing and ive been playing with the spen lately its fun never thought id use it but its pretty fun to use

Htc one m8? Gta sa? 2 core?

In a video by Chris nacca with cpu core monitor it showed that GTA SA only used 2 cores while 4 was available? What do u think? Why is it so?
Sent from my GT-I9082 using xda app-developers app
because the game is not optimized yet to work on 4 cores thats why its gonna lag on every one of the new devices, meanwhile on galaxy s2 it works fine, and i guess it needs a bit gpu optimization.....
