You posted this in the Note II forum, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the majority will say the Note II is better...me first! The Note II is also newer and thus will have less development at the moment, but it will surely pick up.
Note 2
The difference between the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 are the Note 2 has a 5.5 inch screen and the S3 has a 4.8 inch screen. The Note 2 has a 1.6 GHz Quad Core processor and the S3 has a 1.4 GHz Dual Core (so the Note 2 is faster and can better multitask).

Overall size (implied by a larger screen) was somewhat of a concern to me, but I am wayyyyyyyyy past that after a few weeks now. Quad core is what really sold me on the Note II. Get the Note II and don't look back.

More importantly the bigger screen isn't the crappy pentile arrangement, even in the Sprint store side by side I was surprised how much better the N2 screen looked. Ofc, there was nothing there explaining what and why the n2 looked way better.

Your choice will depend on what you want from your device?
I had the S3 prior to getting the Note 2 and loved it. Right now there Is more dev support on it. The Note 2 has more of what I was looking for. Bigger screen and s pen was the main factor for my choice. I do a lot of online reading and use the s pen for note taking. It would be nice if there were more choices on the dev side, but that will come with patience.
Which one Is better? Both great devices. the one that is better is the one that fits your needs the best.
Good luck.

Yes, my wife has the S3 with a screen protector on it as well and the screen looks so crappy next to my note 2.
I thought the waiter at olive Garden was going to steal my phone she went nuts over it and kept asking about it every time she came back to the table.

Also the s3 has gotten a head start over the n2 in terms of development (being released quite a bit earlier). I chose the n2 because of the quad core, not only to future proof but because I want the best Lol:thumbup:

I traded in my Awesome S3 for a Note. I am glad I did, but there are tradeoffs.
Here's a month old guide which gives a detailed, and almost geeky enough for me, description of the differences:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_galaxy_note_ii-review-830.php
I have a Tab 7 Plus and used it via the wifi on my Epic 4G and then S3. I won't do that anymore because the Note does most of what the Tab did almost as well and some of them better. Kindle Books, for example, are better. Reading "The Mongoliad" on the Note 2 is easier on the Note than either the S3 or the 7" Tab Plus. It's a good compromise between size and portability. The Tab got heavy after a while and the S3 made me turn pages more than I want to. Some work needs to be done on Amazon's side because I want the auto screen rotation to turn off via the app and not through system settings when I read ebooks.
S3 in my front pocket. The Note is ok in my front pocket, but I do feel it constraining me when going up steps and such.
To me the note 2 is slightly better. But i think the s3 mite be a better choice for the 0$ to $49.99 there being sold for this weekend vs the $250+ the note is selling for
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Well I had no upgrade available because I wasted it on the evo lte.. uhg sorry that phone does not deserve to be called evo but anyways pick up a new in box note for 400$ on craigslist and the sg3 would have still cost 250-350$
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Both are awesome devices... I had the S3 and loved it but for me bigger is better... I use my phone pretty much for everything and the larger screen is a must have for movies & YouTube... I'm a big guy so no issues with feel... The Note 2 is a can't miss device and the devs are starting to flock to it...

I have the S3 and I'm tired of the piss-poor WiFi and BT reception. I had my roommate test his WiFi at various places in our house with his N2 and it seems to have the same crap reception. I have confirmed this on about 6 different Samsung Android phones now. When compared side by side to the Evo 4G and Evo 3D, every Samsung phone is put to shame... blah. I will probably still switch to the N2 anywsys because of the CPU and screen. I hate pentile.
This phone just keeps blowing me away with the speed and smoothness. Apple better step their game up quick.

my girl has the S3, and it's faster than the S3. the S3 is a helluva phone tho.
never own the s3 but the Evo lte share the same cpu/gpu. This phone blows the s4 out the water. Everything is silky smooth. I have yet to come across a game that will slow this down. My Evo struggle to play even Temple Run Brave, pretty choppy at some point but not this note 2. At first when I had the Evo I thought that maybe these certain games is not fully optimized for android but this note 2 prove it otherwise.
Regarding your comment about the apple part. Wifey have iphone 5 and ipad 3 but the same games play on my note 2 is outstanding!!!
Best battery in a phone by a long shot. Don't think I have enough proof to say this before but yep apple definitely need to watch out. I'm not a fan of any brand but a big fan of great technology and this note 2 is definitely all that and more.
Wait wait, is it even a question whether this phone is faster than the S3? The Note 2 isnt just a big S3. Were talking dual core 1.5ghz Krait vs quad core 1.6Ghz Exynos. Yeah...its faster

Not really. Although it may look the same it has about the same or best features as the one. This phone is great and for those that have a note 2 it may not be that much of an update but for s3 owners it's a decent upgrade. But with lots of the software updates from s4 coming to s3 this phone is more of a phone for those trying Sammy for the first time. In the end this phone is a sure competition to the htc one.

I personally don't see the upgrade for S3 owners but definitely see it for S2 owners. I was hoping for more wow factor since the S series and Note series are typically pretty close to each other save a few small differences.
If this is what Samsung will put out in 2013, I'm waiting until the Note 4.

This. S3 users will be pretty silly to get this upgrade unless money is no object for them. I do like a few this though. The white version for example is not just white it looks like it has a textured face. And the Window for the flip cover. The biggest update would be the AC wifi. I wish the Note 2 had that.
Also anyone catch that it has an IR LED? That's sweet if it does.

Im curious to see if the s4 can be rooted easily because of the new Samsung knox software. It seems like its gonna be hard to flash roms and such cause the features of knox is to shut the phone down if unauthorized software is found. Also the kernel has secure boot on it. Any thoughts on this guys?

I'm really disappointed that they didn't focus on improving design and build quality. I love my Note 2 but will definitely hold out if the Note 3 is just a spec'd up update. It's awesome that the battery is removable and a SD card can be used, but I really believe they could used more premium parts in place of the chrome strip and plastic cover. If struggling HTC is capable of creating a gorgeously designed phone, then Samsung -with all it's resources and money - can definitely design a well-crafted, premium device.
But I am looking forward to the Note 3 and the new features the device will include. I just hope the device doesn't get any bigger (if it does, i hope it's not significantly noticeable) and includes more premium parts. Can you imagine the Note with an aluminum, removable battery cover and a premium chrome belt?
The plastic adds less weight and makes the screen less prone to breaking. I have dropped my phone numerous of times and never had to replace my screen. More weigh equals more weight which equals more mass and force when you drop your phone.
I believe Samsung's goal is to make their phone light and durable. If I had a choice of either protecting my screen or my phone cover I rather had a phone with some nicks than a cracked screen.

13 MP back facing camera, internal storage space of up to 64GB, 1.9 GHz Snapdragon cpu. It's a little better than ours LOL
The Smart Scroll feature is pretty cool. I also like that it can tell if you are watching a video and if you look away from the screen it will auto pause. It comes with 4.2.2 so hopefully it can be easily ported to our Note II

Exynos chip is more optimized . Having it in the s2 you should know. Use the US variant of the s3 vs the international, it is just smoother with the exynos. So that's why its a deal breaker. Not going to settle for less. I really don't care for LTE.

Everybody is excited about the Note 3 because its predecessor, the Note 2 is a legendary device and arguably the best mobile phone ever to date. So the expectations are through the roof. Thats the thing, expectations. I think we are expecting so much out of this device that many of us will be disappointed. Here's what i think the note 3 should be in order to be a successful and a worthy upgrade:
- Specs ( samsung NEVER disappoints when it comes to specs on paper), Snapdragon S800 or Exynos 5 octa 2nd gen, 2-3 GB Ram, 32GB of storage minimum with expandable memory, 13mp camera just like the S4 but with OIS, IR blaster, dedicated camera button would be nice, 1080P display Amoled or LCD is just fine with me personally, gorilla glass 3, better speakers than the Note 2 already pretty good speakers.
- Enhanced S pen functionality, more pressure points, more features, more comfortable to hold, S pen to work with the capacitive buttons
- More useful features like Multi-window, S-buddy page, pop up browser. No need for gimmicks like smart scroll or smart pause that can potentially cause the phone to lag which leads to my next and most important point personally...
- NO FREAKING LAG!!!!!!! Just like the note 2 and not like the S4 when it launched. It needs to have an amazingly fast and smooth performance. If this isnt the case then it will not be worth upgrading from the note 2 regardless of the number of cores it has. There should be 0 tolerance with lag considering a snapdragon S800 or Exynos 5 octa SoC plus android 4.3.
- Design. I hope Samsung can be less predictable with their design, make something different from the S4, S4 mini and S mega 6.3. Thinner and lighter would be nice, less bezel and more comfortable in the hand.
- UI. I expect it to be very similar to the S4 touchwiz interface plus some additional things for the S pen. If it can change that would be nice but i wont complain otherwise.
- Battery life. The note 2 battery life is amazing, period. The Note 3 needs to be better, period.
- display size. 5.7 inch would be pretty nice. Some folks are suggesting that the Note 3 should have a 6.4 inch display just like the Z ultra but it woudn't benefit neither us nor Samsung. Future Notes would have to be as big as 6.4 inches or bigger otherwise it would be a downgrade. Bigger than 6.4 inch is definitely tablet territory so 5.7 inch is fine so next year they can do 5.9 and so on.
I think if Samsung manages to follow these points, the Note 3 will be unbeatable.
It'll also be nice to have some stable releases of CM and have full code for the SD800. I am very much so looking forward to upgrading to the note 3.
I love my note 2 but an CPU/Screen update is always welcomed
having faster processor and more ram is good and well but at the end of the day it all about OS and how it manages it resources. I mean look at apple and windows phones running less spec hardware but it the OS that make them stand apart from the crowd. Quad core processor really? **** the day I can run hard core applications like adobe or autocad or other enginering software then I would say yes we need a I7 processor. For daily use dual core is just fine. Yes to more ram but more faster processor why?

Real multitasking is more than just that.
I actually do use it as well. The only way they can make money? They are the biggest phone manufacturer out there right now. I don't think that is why they're making money. Plus who is to say how many people or who uses what features? Just because I don't use some doesn't mean others don't.
So they change hardware, and introduce new features, don't all companies do that? lol
