That's what everyone said about a quad core. Yet here we are.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
big.LITTLE does not activate all eight cores at the same time towards a task.
You will either get quad-core Cortex-A15 performance (heavy loads) or quad-core Cortex-A7 performance (light loads).
Gaming system emulation is limited by the CPU, not the GPU. The Exynos 5 will be a step up but probably not enough.
Wont effect battery life as long as propper governors are set and the batter is atleast 2700 (I now thats smaller than ours but so will the entire sg4 compared to the gn2)... inter-processor fluidity, gui, screen size, android version, etc should better battery life as well
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Like I said. You do understand that these telephones pack enough processing power if not more than the original PS had. Probably. I haven't actually checked but I'm pretty sure Thad note 3 will handle emulating ten year old games....
The question that should be being asked is if someone can develop an emulator that isn't buggy as hell
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The entire purpose of the octa core is to improve battery. When the device doesn't need to run at high power the second 4 cores a low power arm 7 will take over. The are saying it will improve battery by 70%. I will have to see that to believe it but if they say 70% I bet we can count on gaining at least 40% which would be awesome.

I just can't wait for KLP. I was reading they are going to optimize it for quad core cpu's and will also do allot of battery optimization. This phone here, the Note 2 is a beast of a phone as it is. The battery life is great, the screen is amazing and I've been using the s-pen more and more and I like it much more then I thought I would.
Yeah the S4 will be nice but the Note 3, that will be amazing. Kinda like the s3 then the Note 2 comes out with better everything and a much better screen. I can't handle pen tile screens.

Also, if you look at the USA s3, is dual core and it still packs more then enough power. That's why when KLP comes out and we get it rolled out to us. Our battery life will be even better then it is now since it will be quad core optimized.

Gaming emulation still requires power since it's running on another Os. A reason you don't see xbox 360 or ps3 emulations atm.

The GS2 is still the top phone (top 3 at least), except the screen (nexus+note > gs2) and CPU (nexus > gs2). Otherwise the GPU + storage capabilities exceed the nexus it's a close call
I think the GS2 has held its value better than any other smart phone that came out last year, which is an extremely good accomplishment in today's fast-growing market. Though, the GS2's reign will end soon with phones like the One X and GS3

Hi all,
I have a question here.
As the voltage for running a core and four core at 1.6ghz is the same, is it ok to lower it t 1ghz so that it save more juice and it will normally running at dual core. Is it OK to do so?
What's your opinion?

Why run single core or dual core on a great and efficient quad core beast? It won't really make a difference in battery life because then the cpu's would be under more strain than usual. Although it MIGHT save battery, but not THAT much. Underclocking and undervolting is still probably the best solution you can do if you want even more battery life. But do utilize all 4 cores of this device.

I am debating whether to buy the Nexus 4 or the Note II. Yes I admire the huge screen, and really doesn't bother me. But at the same time, the Nexus has some features that the Note II can't simply offer. Things as important as updates straight from Google, from stupid little things like the notification lights. Which one should I decide?
Well, if you get the Nexus 4, it's almost the same price outright as the Note 2 is on contract. I recently switched to Straight Talk Wireless prepaid and am using the same T-Mobile network for only $45/month. So I think the deciding factor between the two phones is whether you want to stay on a contract for another two years, or explore other options.

Stagnated in improvements?? Both the Nexus 4 and Note 2 are amazing upgrades compared to this phone.
-Better, bigger 720p screens
-GPUs with more than twice the power of the adreno 220 (NFS Most Wanted plays SO smooth on the Note 2.)
-quad core CPUs that put this snapdragon s3 boat to shame with antutu scores of 12,000+
-2gb of ram
-MUCH better cameras
-The Note 2 has insane battery life
-and to top if off both ship with official Jelly Bean?

That said, I'm still gonna get the nexus 4 because it's overall the best phone you can get for that price.
I don't think the note 2 and the nexus 4 are really competing with each other. they're aimed at two different types of people. For me, the note's just too big and too expensive, lol. But the screen is gorgeous so if you're comfortable with the huge screen then it's perfect.

Don't lie. NFS most wanted does NOT play smoothly on this phone. Either that or you'e completely oblivious to framerates. It runs smoother on JB ROMs than ICS ROMs.. but even then I notice frame rates float between the low 20s to low 30s and it fluctuates ALOT. I've tried this game on around 10 ROMs or so. Even with cpu overclocks and overclocked GPU speeds.
The Note 2 stays above 40 fps at all times and doesn't drop one bit. As seen in this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyg8vTbGRX8&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And this is a video of the game playing on an exynos powered GSII, and mind you the Mali 400 GPU stomps the adreno 220 found in this phone..

The only thing that drives me nuts about the processor is the wake lag every time I turn it on from deep sleep. I'll learn to live with it, but this phone would be almost perfect if that were fixed (not including software tweaks).

Look at the Engadget review of the Nexus 4. The note 2 (exynos) beat the snapdragon s4 pro in 4/6 benchmarks and they felt like the exy was better in normal use and battery efficiency. Just look up Nexus 4 review on engadget- Nexus 4,Optimus G, note 2 are all compared. Look at the benchmark table. Note 2 wins 4/6.

I've never seen any huge advantage of the Exynos processors over any others, mainly because they are just stock ARM designs. If Samsung wanted to impress me, they would pay for an architecture license. The A6 is pretty hard to beat, given the performance AND battery life, and I really like my S4 Pro, although it is a bit of a juice hog.
The exynos is a heavily modified arm design, and apples a6 is very very similar to it.

That's why you see iphones perform very well despite the specs looking like they are lacking. The iphone 5 after playing with it is just as fast as my Note 2 but it's only dual core and clocked much lower. RAM is also lower.
Pretty sure the reason the a6 is as smooth or smother with lower specs is due to software optimization and the fact it uses 3 core gpu ( which everyone seems to leave out when they make these statements). That is where apple has done good.

Everybody is excited about the Note 3 because its predecessor, the Note 2 is a legendary device and arguably the best mobile phone ever to date. So the expectations are through the roof. Thats the thing, expectations. I think we are expecting so much out of this device that many of us will be disappointed. Here's what i think the note 3 should be in order to be a successful and a worthy upgrade:
- Specs ( samsung NEVER disappoints when it comes to specs on paper), Snapdragon S800 or Exynos 5 octa 2nd gen, 2-3 GB Ram, 32GB of storage minimum with expandable memory, 13mp camera just like the S4 but with OIS, IR blaster, dedicated camera button would be nice, 1080P display Amoled or LCD is just fine with me personally, gorilla glass 3, better speakers than the Note 2 already pretty good speakers.
- Enhanced S pen functionality, more pressure points, more features, more comfortable to hold, S pen to work with the capacitive buttons
- More useful features like Multi-window, S-buddy page, pop up browser. No need for gimmicks like smart scroll or smart pause that can potentially cause the phone to lag which leads to my next and most important point personally...
- NO FREAKING LAG!!!!!!! Just like the note 2 and not like the S4 when it launched. It needs to have an amazingly fast and smooth performance. If this isnt the case then it will not be worth upgrading from the note 2 regardless of the number of cores it has. There should be 0 tolerance with lag considering a snapdragon S800 or Exynos 5 octa SoC plus android 4.3.
- Design. I hope Samsung can be less predictable with their design, make something different from the S4, S4 mini and S mega 6.3. Thinner and lighter would be nice, less bezel and more comfortable in the hand.
- UI. I expect it to be very similar to the S4 touchwiz interface plus some additional things for the S pen. If it can change that would be nice but i wont complain otherwise.
- Battery life. The note 2 battery life is amazing, period. The Note 3 needs to be better, period.
- display size. 5.7 inch would be pretty nice. Some folks are suggesting that the Note 3 should have a 6.4 inch display just like the Z ultra but it woudn't benefit neither us nor Samsung. Future Notes would have to be as big as 6.4 inches or bigger otherwise it would be a downgrade. Bigger than 6.4 inch is definitely tablet territory so 5.7 inch is fine so next year they can do 5.9 and so on.
I think if Samsung manages to follow these points, the Note 3 will be unbeatable.
It'll also be nice to have some stable releases of CM and have full code for the SD800. I am very much so looking forward to upgrading to the note 3.
I love my note 2 but an CPU/Screen update is always welcomed
having faster processor and more ram is good and well but at the end of the day it all about OS and how it manages it resources. I mean look at apple and windows phones running less spec hardware but it the OS that make them stand apart from the crowd. Quad core processor really? **** the day I can run hard core applications like adobe or autocad or other enginering software then I would say yes we need a I7 processor. For daily use dual core is just fine. Yes to more ram but more faster processor why?

+1 to this^^^^^ even tho I can upgrade when I want, having 5 lines on the account.
I'll wait for the 4, like to stay with the even numbers:sly:. The Note 3 is just going to be a over sized S4, with a pen.. Jmho
My girl is going to get one so I'll just play with and hack that one!

Neither windows phone nor ios use true multitasking though, they both tombstone applications.
Not really a good comparison.
Dual core is fine? You're already using a quad core phone lol

Maybe u use multiwindow but I dont. I know the phone is quad but as I said dual core would have been just fine. The only way samsung can make money is by changing hardware and introducing features that most of the general public will never use like S4

It isn't even just multiwindow....
Real multitasking is more than just that.
I actually do use it as well. The only way they can make money? They are the biggest phone manufacturer out there right now. I don't think that is why they're making money. Plus who is to say how many people or who uses what features? Just because I don't use some doesn't mean others don't.
So they change hardware, and introduce new features, don't all companies do that? lol
There is a sticky to discuss other devices
