I think this phone is a wise choice. Its very fast and the size is perfect. It fits to your hand perfectly. It knows everything you need. You can also update the stock GB to ICS. Here is the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576874

Agree. Size is perfect for Asians (or those with smaller hands), CPU is quite powerful for its price range, and it's root-friendly.

Nice performance phone with affordable price. Fast processor. Overall it's a nice medium ranged price phone.
Pressing "Thanks" button will be much appreciated if user's posts useful for you

It's up to everyone what they think about a phone.
I bought this for my wife. Impression so far (compared to my 'old' HTC Desire S):
- Lots of lag, even if it's clocked at 1.4Ghz (compare to 1Ghz for the HTC).
- Touchwiz is painfull, people complain about Sense, but it's much more user friendly.
- MMS picture over compressed.
- Keyboard is much better on Sense, even more when using multiple language.
- easy task as connecting as USB storage is a multiple steps compare to a 1 click on HTC (or even SGS2!)
- lack of native widgets (mainly just the one to disable the data, I know it's in the power menu when you hold the 'power' button and you can easily download a widget, but should be there by default).
- Only gingerbread unless you install custom ROM, but then, you can't use the front facing camera.
- Samsung will certainly NOT upgrade it to ICS or JB.
It's not rooted at the moment, and will try to keep it that way.
All in all, it does the job, but I think you can have a better phone for the same price.

I have never used an HTC before, but I would like to respond to your allegations.

True. That is due to how TouchWiz is a 'heavy' launcher. There are lots of 3rd party lightweight launchers in the store, you can use them instead.

"Painful" is highly suggestive. Some people I know complained the other way around.
I'll attribute that to habit: People get so familiar with their own devices that using an unfamiliar one will always be painful.

Can't really comment on this one either, since I never used an HTC before.
But let me say that all built-in keyboards can't hold a candle to SwiftKey, especially in a multilingual setting

Hadn't used USB Storage for awhile, but IIRC, it's also simple. Drag down the status bar, tap on the notification, then tap on Connect USB Storage.

Possibly true. But unlike many other Android phone makers, Samsung doesn't lock their bootloaders, thus allowing a lively CusROM scene. (except the SGS3 for Verizon, but that's a singular exception).

Possible, but not guaranteed.
In my country, for instance, Galaxy W is still selling well, but finding a needle in a haystack is much easier than finding a comparable Android phone with the same price but better features.

Easy things as saving a vCard received by SMS/MMS is not user friendly at all, quite different from clicking the 'save' icon from the message thread in Sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm giving Samsung a go at the moment, I just bought a SGS2 and trying to get my way around! I had a Nokia X6 before my HTC and (almost) everything was at the right place in Sense, I just don't think it's the same with Touchwiz. I'm sure there is some really nice stuff in Touchwiz that Sense is lacking, I'm yet to find it tho.

Skype works, only the 3G video call doesn't.
AFAIK, no Cyanogenmod version ever support 3G Vidcall, because inside the codec used for 3GVC, there's a heavily patented blob that CM devs chose to stay away from.

[Q] Cyanogenmod benefits???

I havent had time to fully test the cyanogenmod rom for the EVO yet and I know a lot of people really love the extra features added to it. My question is what are those features not available in other roms or sense roms?
Well you have great features that NO other ROM can do! Such as no more 4G. No more FM Radio! Camera quality is lessened. But my personal favorite is no more HDMI output. But all those aside...it makes your phone...well...kinda faster? Something like that.

The easiest way to answer this question is to just flash it and try it out. We could sit here and type everything out for you but that wouldn't be any fun!
Give it a try. Don't let others sway your judgement.

The camera quality is the same with CM6.
Cm6 is all open source.. not everyone appreciates the hard work that goes into it. HTC's Sense is removed so it doesn't hog your system memory. My favorite thing is that the wiimote app works allowing me to play video game emulators with a wii-remote. I work nights soo I got to pass time..

Have anyone experienced issues after updating to 4.3?

Such as? I switched from the S4 a couple months ago and have experienced ZERO issues. On the other hand, I used to get random reboots/lag/unresponsiveness all the time on the S4 with no explanation. The HTC One is incredibly stable.

For me mainly it was the ability to unlock the bootloader and be able to flash roms again, or pretty much do whatever I want. As long as you don't update the phone to the latest OTA without gaining S-off you will be able to as well.
Other things I liked over the S4 include:
-Metal build quality feels amazing. This thing actually feels premium, unlike the S4. I also don't feel like I'm going to break it if I'm using it outside of a case.
-Sense is way smoother than Touchwiz. Sense out of the box with all bloat is still smoother than the S4 with all bloat removed (on Touchwiz). I really like the minimalist style and smoothness of Sense.
-The IR blaster is WAY stronger than the S4's so it feels a lot better to use day to day.
-Screen brightness is great, and colors are more accurate. I thought I preferred AMOLED colors but turns out I'm liking the more realistic tones of this display. Your results may vary.
-Speakers are incredible. It makes any media consumption on the device automatically better just because you can hear everything clearly and loudly. Call quality is great too. I have my alarm clock on half volume and it's still louder than the S4 on max.
Okay now it sounds like I hate the S4, which isn't true, so here's some things I DON'T like about the HTC One:
-Camera is pretty good, but the S4 is just a beast. If I could switch the camera on this to the S4 camera, I would.
-Button placement. I kinda get what they were going for, but the ergonomics of it are awkward and take some getting used to, especially the power button. I miss having a menu button on the bottom as well.
-No removable battery or storage. I barely ever needed a removable battery, but having limited storage really blows no matter what device you're on. I haven't filled it up yet, but I'm much more careful about how much I'm using than I was on the S4.
-It's not available in black. This isn't really HTC's fault but still it's worth mentioning. This phone looks incredible in black and it's not possible to get on Verizon. Very annoying.

There is an option in Settings > Display, Gestures and Buttons to change the function of long pressing the home button to work as a menu button. I got used to using the menu button on my HTC Incredible, same with the micro sd card, removable battery that the HTC One just doesn't have. However thanks to this setting that is no longer one of my few complaints about the HTC One.
I apologize for not being able to give more specific instructions on where to find the setting, in ViperOne the setting has been moved from Settings to Viper Tweaks, along with having a customized settings menu.
Is that on a rooted device? I have no idea about rooting and the benefits of it.

That is on stock, and the section in Settings is called "Display, Gestures and Buttons". In that menu the second section down titled "Buttons" click the first option under "Buttons" and you will get 2 choices, you want the one that says hold for menu.

The lack of a menu key is honestly one of the smallest issues I have with the phone, and I'd rather have it stay as a dedicated Google search shortcut instead as there's been times when I need to bring it up immediately. Besides, even if you use the home key as the menu you still need to reach up to use the options in most cases, unlike the Galaxy phones which keep the menu selections at the bottom of the screen.
Since I'm on Bonestock right now the power button isn't really a huge issue anymore either, as it has volume keys to wake function so you don't always need to reach for the power button up top.
The only issue I've had is the screen will turn off, usually when on the phone, and it will take a second or two to respond and come back. Other than that, the One has been stellar all around. Build quality is definite thing to note, and Sense is quite nice compared to Touchwiz.

Sounds like you just tripped the proximity sensor by accident, it will turn the screen off during calls when it thinks it's next to your face
Apart from your increased smoothness and responsiveness the problem that I had was a software problem. Office suite pro. My excel documents just started to have a different format. And it was working fine on 4.2. It was however solved by installing the very latest version of suite pro.
This might be the result of some basic changes at the base of JB 4.3..
This happened in both xperia ZR AND samsung S3.

Lag lag lag

I came from the insufferable Note 2. But at least there's no lag on THAT phone.
With this phone, both stock Rom and cm10.2, there is lag.
I've tried changing the processor to performance. No difference.
In fact, I've tried several different things that had absolutely no effect.
Any advice other than trying a thousand different things until I " get it right" ?
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

Why do you feel the need to disclaim that you didn't mean to "like" the post? Is it a mortal sin to ever say anything bad about android products and services?
Today, I went back to stock (4.1.2) and the speed was back to normal. For example, I played this game called Rope Escape. It is fluid once more.
When I was on CM 10.2, there was noticeable stutter in the game.
Now I've put SlimKat 4.4.2 on my device and it seems to be doing much better as well. We'll just have to see.
The thing with this android experience is that at first you get all excited thinking you're gonna have so much better battery life or whatever....and everything is great for a day.... then..meet the new boss, same as the old boss.....

Performance wise, mi4i not a chance to stand up against zf2, but zf2 2gb have ram management issues which makes multitasking bit hard and battery life is not great as mi4i
No custom rom since no unlocking tool for now from Asus, but it will be available soon I guess..
Camera improved than before, great at outdoor, somewhat noisy in indoor

I know about the performance. A custom rom is possible after bootloader is unlocked right? I've decided to buy it, but there are a lot of negative reviews on flipkart related to call drops, although these reviews are often misguided.
Also, how is the display, build quality ?

I know about the performance. A custom rom is possible after bootloader is unlocked right? I've decided to buy it, but there are a lot of negative reviews on flipkart related to call drops, although these reviews are often misguided.

Could you show the source for the bootloader unlock news? I can't find it. BTW I already ordered mine with a clear TPU case. Any recommended wall chargers for quick charge?

Doesn't seem good enough . Seems like its not their top priority

Understandable though. They are focused on fixing bugs which affected 98% of their consumer base. Only the handful of us (2%) bother about custom this and that.

Are custom roms for Galaxy S9 worth it in 2021??

I'm having a Galaxy S9 using Exynos chip. My phone's running kinda slow lately, ram optimization is really bad (I'm using Facebook, accidentally press the home button, and when I go back into the app, it's already closed, or the music app sometime quit itself while playing)
So i'm wondering if custom roms are worth to install in 2021 or not since I will lose Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, and probably Iris scanner too if I decide to go for it
AOSP is really fast on the s9 I run it all the time. There is also the Noble project that brings one ui 3.1 to the s9 and it is surprisingly responsive. But if you want to actually keep more that one and a half apps in ram, I'd recommend AOSP as it has great ram management. And crDroid is decent if you want customizability. Though it isn't as customizable as one ui. So I'd say go for it just use an aosp rom imo. Some apps have issues with custom roms though keep that in mind.

yah you'll loose that, but no AOSP roms even use it or need it anyways. Jus remember that if you go back to stock alot of samsung apps might be broken.

Well alot of samsung services can be replaced with google services tbh. And as long as you dont root, you should be fine.

Well maybe you right. I'm using a Macbook anyway, so apps like Samsung Pass, Health are useless
just to complicate your choices there's also GSIs to consider too. a lot more work and research before and after flashing to finally get right how you want it but I hear very good things.
maybe look for other S9 Exynos users running a GSI for a better low down.

you'll unfortunately lose the ambient light sensor with a gsi on the s9. So if you want that the you need a full rom

losing adaptive brightness doesn't sound like a huge sacrifice to me. far more needed work on newer phones and if you join phhuson's telegram, within reason he tries to patch errors effecting all users on a device.

Oh that's cool I didn't know there was someone that did that. For me I sometimes get bothered if the brightness is isnt almost as perfect as it can be for a certain situation which is why I like a automated system to do it for me.
