New Nexus Phone Reviewed Ahead of Launch (LG Nexus 4) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/10/12/new-nexus-phone-reviewed-ahead-of-launch/
The new Nexus phone, presumed to be called the LG Nexus 4, has been reviewed ahead of its rumored launch date of October 29th.
Onliner, the same website that leaked the LG Nexus 4 several times this week, posted a full review of the device complete with detailed specifications as well as a side-by-side photo op with the previous Nexus smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The review details some information that we had not known yet including the new Nexus phone’s size, weight and more. Apparently, the phone is 9.2mm thin which means that it’s much thicker than the iPhone 5 which is 7.6mm thin. It also weighs 139 grams, also heavier than the iPhone 5. The device is also thicker than the Galaxy Nexus by .03mm. It’s also wider but shorter than the Galaxy Nexus.

The back of the new Nexus phone, unlike the Galaxy Nexus’, possesses no hump. It’s flush. The review also claims that the back is both smooth and glossy which could mean that it’s made of scratch-resistant glass. They took a key to the back to try and scratch it and could not do so.
The new Nexus phone does not contain any metal elements in its design. Instead, it’s made of plastic, just like the Galaxy Nexus.
Its display, which measures 4.7-inches, is a True IPS display which means that its not PenTile Matrix. The screen sports HD resolution, something that does not differ from the previous Nexus smartphone.
LG Nexus 4 has an 8MP rear camera, no pins for accessories, and it appears that the phone is running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the latest from Google. It’s certainly possible that it could launch with Android 4.2 on board but at this point, it’s unclear.
Read: New Nexus Phone Compared to iPhone 5 in New Photos.
The device will also have a quad-core processor and 8GB of on board storage though Google may opt to sell one with a larger amount of storage space given the lack of a microSD card.
Google is rumored to be announcing the LG Nexus 4 on October 29th, likely at the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile conference where Andy Rubin, Google’s Android chief, is scheduled to speak.
In 2012, Rubin introduced the Motorola Xoom and Android 3.0 Honeycomb at the event so there is a distinct possibility that a LG Nexus 4 launch could occur that day as well.

I can't take any review of revision 1.0 hardware seriously.
If you recall, the first Galaxy Nexus test devices too, were 8GB. It certainly didn't end up that way. Dropping the size of the NAND included cuts cost on testing hardware.
Its interesting to see them compared, but nothing is finalized yet, so there is no way it would launch this month. Some of these blog sites need to find some tech writers with common sense.

Same here man, i had to actually buy me a hd2 because of the g2x being terrible, but since its going to be a google phone, it may see more support from both google and LG OEM.

I have hope for a LG Nexus since its the software that usually blows.
Although LG batteries blow too.

Don't see how you can say that when you have absolutely no idea when this particular rev 1 hardware was manufactured. There could easily have been 3, 4 or 10 revisions since this was made. The build date on the software gives you no indication of when the hardware was made.
If this really is rev 1 hardware of course we're not surprised to see lots of issues.

That said...you don't know either.
I don't think that tech writer does either.
Yet the reviewer is posting as fact that its coming with 8GB of onboard storage and to be released in a bit over two weeks.
It doesn't matter how old the device is. Its rev 1.0 and you don't base final specs off a prototype model nor think a release is imminent.

That reviewer did a review of the review done in ( sorry don't know the language) another language that actually has the device he was trying to review on hand. One that when is is translated clearly stated it was a early prototype and not to expect 8gb in final shipping versions.
Another case of let's just take something from somewhere and change a line or two and make stuff up for web hits.

The front is the same as galaxy nexus -_-

The deal-breaker for me is the lack of pogo pins. It seems unlikely this wouldn't be on the prototype but would be on the production model. I went from a Nexus One to a Galaxy Nexus and have become very fond of being able to drop my phone into a desktop dock without messing with the USB connector.

I thought I read something indicating the reviewed unit was from April/May, can't refind it. Not that it would matter anyway, pure rumor. The review is somewhere between reviewing unicorns and reviewing a windows 8 phone where you aren't allowed to power on the device. Only useful info I got from it was seeing that there's a LED notification light, makes me believe they won't be getting rid of that feature any time soon. I don't feel like you can count on much of the appearance from a preproduction model.

Of course that means LG can use a bigger battery giving users more battery life (initially anyways).

[Q] What phone are you gonna get after Desire Z/G2 ?

i'm not thinking about getting a new phone (yet), but what are you guys up to?
I may wait for coming HTC models for late this year or 2012, beats audio powered and sure Ice cream sandwich in da house.
Though Samsung to be considered.
Had my Z for almost one year. Rocks with 2.3!!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I've only had my z for a couple months so not looking too soon (I generally keep a phone for 6-9 months) but when I do swap out I'll probably go for another qwerty handset. Milestone 3 maybe. Unless htc come up trumps with an update to this lovely piece of kit.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
My self-imposed goal is to keep on the Desire Z for at least a year, and I got it in December 2010. So I'm going to try to wait it out until end of the year, then see what HTC is offering (or has coming soon) at that time. If I had to get a phone now (if mine broke), I'd look at the Sensation (available from Canada Bell, compatible with AT&T 3G bands) or the Holiday, which is supposed to be out on AT&T soon (this month or next).
Although I'm a bit torn on the hardware keyboard issue lately. This is my 3rd smartphone, all of which have been HTC with a hardware keyboard. But lately I find myself using Swype quite a bit nowadays, and even thinking of going without a hardware keyboard for my next phone. But sometimes, for longer messages I still go back to the hardware keyboard.
i would probably go for the htc sensation XE or sensation once the prices drop on ebay
Hoping for the next nexus or the NEXT next nexus. But I definitely need a FFC and NFC....

Really going to hold out as long as I can. All of these recent phones coming out look nice, but I'm really still happy with the G2. Its fast and very usable, even with (admittedly) lacking specs. Keeping the phone rooted running a custom ROM breathes new life into this device for sure.
I've had the G2 since January, and I'm going to stick with it for several more months. I'm waiting to see the next 'Nexus' device from Google to see if its really worth it. If ICS is as game changing and innovative as I hope, It'll be hard to resist for sure. I think that'll be the deciding factor for me now.
I'm really not hung up on specs. I get everything done just fine on 512mb RAM and 800mhz processor right now, so I'm not exactly drooling for 1gb RAM and dual core just yet (use cases vary obviously). If the interface and new software is great, and I can really get more done with it, I'm sure I'll end up pulling the trigger on a new device like that.
One thing not keeping me on the G2 is the keyboard. Its nice when I need to bang out some long emails or texts, but the extra heft and thickness just isn't worth it to me. It isn't a big negative though. As far as horizontal sliders go the G2 is quite thin.

I've been disappointed with the Nexus series every since Google moved from HTC to Samsung. Samsung has decent hardware (good displays) but casings seem cheap and plastic compared to most HTC phones. And with Google's purchase of Motorola's mobile division, I have a feeling we may see future Nexus versions coming straight from Google, and made by "former" Motorola folks. And personally, I've been consistently underwhelmed by just about every Motorola smartphone, and they are a step below Samsung.
Been hearing the next 'Nexus' device will be named 'Nexus Prime' and manufactured by Samsung as well. I have hopes that Google will go back to HTC because Sammy's build quality is quite lacking (plastic vs aluminium housing).
I will be holding out for the next 'G' or Desire device from HTC for as long as I can. If I had to choose one now, it would be the Sensation or Holiday. I can say for sure that the manufacturer will be HTC though.
ive heard rumour of rogers canada getting the samsung S2 slide this fall...itll be my replacement. with huge hands and fingers i will not type on a screen lol. hw kb is a must for this cat.

Ideally that's what I want, because I've been happy with the "G" series, but I haven't seen any indication that they'll be a third G phone. Hopefully that's the case. If not, then a good HTC phone with a slide out keyboard will do. I find myself using it less and less, but I still would like to have it for the sake of versatility.
It's amazing how much having a phone being rooted extends the life of the phone. I would like to see what the next Google Phone is. I see a lot of 4.5 - 4.7 inch screens coming out. I think i'll ditch the full qwerty for a thinner phone with a larger screen. Hopefully Googarola can make me happy with a Nexus/G3 with a 4.8 inch screen, a 1.5 GHz dual core proc, a 720p front facing camera, and of course ICS.
I recently rooted my Desire Z and am not really looking for a replacement anytime soon.
If I were to replace it now a device like the myTouch 4G Slide (HTC Doubleshot) would suit me perfectly. The only thing I'm really missing is a front camera but I'm definitely happy with my Desire Z for now. Ideally, the HTC Doubleshot would come out in Europe as well as I want a qwerty keyboard, front camera and a screen that's not too big.
I'm currently running Virtuous Doubleshot ROM and really like it.

Hm... there is no replace for Desire Z right now in the market, and that shame.
I think, for me, I will wait tull HTC release some new slider for europe, becouse I quite integrate with HTC Sense, and it is quite nice for me. I dont think how to back to clean android after HTC Sense.
My primary need is phisical qwerty keyboard and medium screen mot less then 3.5" and not bigger then 4".
So far , nothing in mind.
What has a qwerty, track pad, speed, sd, HD cam, 480x800 and up screen res, FM, etc and got a high rating in costumers satisfaction?
Nothing yet. What I'm maybe looking for : 2 core, super amoled, better battery life.

Interesting graphic/article, thanks for posting it. It pretty much mirrors my personal opinion on the build quality and design of the major smartphone manufacturers (HTC>Samsung>Moto>LG). Of course, with the exception of Apple being at the top. As I think most on here would agree, I just don't like Apple's closed ecosystem.

Droid life article on Gnex what is your opinion

I have to admit I have been a bit miffed at what Verizon has done with the Galaxy Nexus. I think it is a great phone but I think Verizon has stripped allot of what was special about being a nexus from the phone.
Apparently someone from Droid Life feels the same way. Here is their article on Verizon and the GNex
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/30/verizon-needs-google-opinion/
What are your thoughts?
This person is also wrong.. they complain about google wallet not being included but it isn't included on the GSM nexus.. it isn't part of AOSP. Also.. the only differences between Verizon and GSM include two semi useful apps that you can remove, a battery cover without Google, and no free tethering. It's not even a big deal.. most of the comments on that article bash the author anyways because he doesn't appear to know anything.

I still think the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone out there. It just seems like it is becoming less of what I thought a Nexus was. Maybe I had the wrong impression of what a Nexus was in the first place. I am no dev, I've just had the feeling it is headed in the wrong direction... slowly
Best phone I have owned.
Compared with the htc hero , desire HD , iPhone 4 , htc sensation and log optinus 3d I have owned.
+ points :
Screen , amazing simply. Colours are bright and vibrant , text and outlines are crisp. Can really tell a difference over the other phones.
Speed. No lagg what so ever , plays gta 3 perfectly whilst listening to music . Can have a little slowness if I am using a heavy live wallpaper.
Honeycomb inspired apps are fantastic. I own a Motorola Xoom which I have been totally impressed with , the music app especially are brilliant , as well as icons and multi task bars. Having it ported over to my mobile has blown my mind.
Battery life : there has been a fair few complaints but as I posted in a battery thread mine will last a day with heavy usage (will include screen shot at the end)
Quality , granted its plastic but it feels like a premium product. Doesn't have the look of the iPhone 4 but the full glass front , no button set up gives the phone a real sleek look. Back plate is flimsy but once its on it feels well built.
Camera: decent picture quality , zero shutter lagg is great . Haven't taken that many photos so I won't comment to much.
Connectivity , GPS and Bluetooth have all worked seamlessly as expected.
Only downsides :
Apps: some are still incompatible which is annoying , its new software so I wouldn't really count this as a issue as it will be fixed.
That's it really , bought this sim free for £529.99. Was unsure and really hoped I wouldn't be disappointed after I had spent that kind of money. I am happy to report that it is the best tech purchase I have made. Well done Samsung & Google , thoroughly impressed

that reporter from droid life needs to crawl out from under the rock...he is clueless!
The biggest compromise, imho, had nothing to do with Verizon, but was made by Google to Texas Instruments: the TI OMAP processor. The Samsung-made Exynos processor from the SGS2 is widely viewed as the best smartphone processor on the market, so why did Google force Samsung to compromise with the TI OMAP? Nothing against Texas Instruments (they have great products, by most accounts), but Google should have let Samsung make this phone with its own chips imho.
Yes, I definitely despise Verizon's treating of this phone as the ugly stepchild of its Android lineup (like they also did with the Fascinate), but, hey, we still have a top-shelf Samsung product on a reliable network, and with (not so reliable, but still better than HSPA) LTE to boot. Plus, it seems to me that Verizon's handling of the Gnex (and the Fascinate) is more a knock against Samsung than Google...

What do you mean by that? Subsidies in Europe are way better than the US lol. They often 100% subsidize the phone (even top-tier devices) for only a 2-year contract, and the service still costs 1/2 of what we pay in the US. AND the non-contract options are still amazing.
Don't kid yourself. We have it worse in every way here.

Oppo is a small company, and until their international marketshare is bigger it is difficult to justify more than 2 variants (China and "rest of the world")
While the Nexus 5 made progress towards global LTE in a single device, it is still not possible to do so.
TL;DR - 5 HSPA+ bands in a single device can support nearly the entire planet, 9 LTE bands in a single device is still not enough.
Plus HSPA+ (especially DC-HSPA+) is no slouch. Most of the "it has no LTE! it sucks!" complainers are Verizon customers whose non-LTE service topped out at something like 4 Mbps.
No LTE isn't a deal breaker for me anyhow. None of my previous devices had LTE, I don't use much in the way of data per month (less than
2GB). LTE in my area, from what I hear my friends complaining about, isn't that fast, and I get enough via wi-fi on the odd time I'm watching
a video.
What will sway me is the price, the build quality, sound quality of the phone (I'm one of those it seems to be rare birds that uses around
1500 minutes per month as a PHONE), how well bluetooth works, and the camera. I use the camera almost daily.

In my opinion the camera works very well. I took a few pictures in the last week and posted them here
https://plus.google.com/photos/101082965118759686555/albums/5945705244839801841
Different users reported the tendence to overexpose pictures combined with a pronounced image noise. These two aspects are related and in my experience prevent from blurry images in low light conditions.
I will prepare a short analysis during the weekend.
No LTE is a deal breaker for me as I am on EE in the UK and it's a 4G network. No point me buying anything without LTE capabilities

What are you on now? I went from 3574 (or 3589, don't remember which I flashed last) and downloaded a patch for 3706, but I had to edit it myself to get it to flash. It won't flash as-is when pulled from the server.
3574 is the last official build released to the pioneers and 3589 is the last full wipe build posted. 3589 really isn't worth flashing though.
I could put together a patch for you if you'd like. 3706 is a relatively small update (something like 17MB zipped), but it does include a few changes to the camera. I haven't really had too much time to test out what they changed/fixed though.

I'm on 3574 now, I came back from 3589 too. If it is not taking too much of your time I would like to test the new camera features!
Phone is very big, looking forward to CM11.
Just realize one thing, this phone is really big...awkwardly so. It's MUCH bigger than a 5" device. Where a 5" device you can pocket easily (at least for a guy), this one will completely takeover even the largest of pockets and you're going to feel it! I still cringe when I think of all the nasty "phablet" designations given to my good old Dell Streak, a device that is no longer big when compared to a device like this.
Nevertheless, the hardware is very well done...even better than OPPO's past efforts.
Also, not impressed all at by OPPO ColorOS but certainly looking forward to an official Cyanogenmod release, perhaps CM11.

OMG! I want this device. I've been resisting the urge to just buy something to buy it... and it's pretty difficult. There's so many nice devices right now, but I have to wait for this thing. The N1 is (for me) everything I wanted in a smartphone, from everything I've seen.
How much longer do you think we'll have to wait?
Shut up and take my money, Oppo! :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Tablet Buying Advice - Nexus 7, Lenovo, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, ...

(I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong subforum.)
Recently, my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, which came for free with my internet subscription, kissed the ground;

I actually used this tablet almost every day, so I'd like to get a working tablet again as soon as possible.
My options at this point are:
* Go to a shop and have them replace the glass. This would probably cost me around €100.
* Buy a new tablet.
At first glance, this seems like an easy choice (option 2), BUT:
If I buy a new tablet, it won't have mobile internet (not even EDGE), because it seems impossible to get a good tablet with mobile internet for under €300. I'm a college student who just bought an expensive new laptop, so I can't really cough up that much.
Then again; paying a shop €100 to fix a tablet which is already outdated and getting quite slow... well, I'm not sure.
I've also been looking at how much a new (7") tablet would cost me.
* Nexus 7 (2013); The obvious option is a Nexus 7, which would set me back €255 (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/asus-google...1321/?Referrer=ADVNLTWE0020159200000018271321). Good screen, good performance, rear-facing camera (which I do often use), plenty of custom ROM's out there and always the latest version of Android.
* ASUS Memopad HD 7 (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/asus-memo-pad-hd-7-wifi-16-gb-blauw/9200000015013549/); €150; Decent resolution display, don't know about performance (can anyone comment on the performance of this device?)
I watched some reviews, and I think the Nexus 7 or the ASUS Memopad HD 7 (thanks, salv-ice) are my best options. But for reference, these are the other two devices I was considering.
* Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-F-00018 (http://www.campusshop.be/zcs-02/80013239/lenovo-ideatab-a3000-f-00018-16gb/details.aspx); €110; Low-resolution screen, rear-facing camera. I don't know a whole lot about tablet and smartphone hardware, so perhaps someone could tell me whether this device would be performant enough for daily use (I have a tendency of loading my devices with apps until the internal storage is full)?
* Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (http://www.campusshop.be/zcs-02/80012767/samsung-galaxy-tab3-7-0-8gb/details.aspx); €155; Low-resolution screen, rear-facing camera, performance looks fine but again I don't really know...
I'm hoping someone can advise me on what my best option would be; because I really don't know. I think it's probably safe to assume that I'll have to learn to live without 3G on my tablet, and that it's not really worth having my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus' screen fixed, but I don't know enough about tablet hardware to safely say whether the Nexus 7 (2013) is worth paying for more than double the price of the Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-F-00018.
PS: The "low-resolution screen" (1024x600) probably wouldn't be a very big turnoff to me, since that's the same resolution my old tablet has and I never really noticed that it was so low.
Owning 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7's I would recommend the 2013 model if you can afford it. Better screen, better cpu, thinner and lighter than any other 7 inch tab out there. When you'll get used to it you'll never want to go back !!
If you really want something cheaper I would not recommend Samsung at all... Their Tab 3 series is quite expensive for what you get...
Another option would be the Asus Memo pad HD7, for 150 € you have a quad core cpu and a good HD screen (1280*800). I offered one to my brother for Christmas and he's very happy with it

For €120 (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/asus-memo-pad-hd-7-wifi-8-gb-blauw/9200000020863717/) this doesn't look at all bad, although I'm not too thrilled about the 2MP camera. How is it for custom ROM support? It's not the most important thing, but it's always a plus Also, is ASUS as terrible as Samsung when it comes to pushing out official software updates?
Edit: There's also a €150 one with a 5MP camera. I haven't checked whether there are other differences.

I did not search for custom roms but I guess you'll find some roms as this device becomes quite popular.
About updates, Asus is like all the other companies : slowww
But they build quality devices (my TF101 is still running fine after 2 years) and they fix the bugs quite quickly.
If you want bleeding edge software and lots of roms, you should go for the Nexus

So now it's pretty much between the Nexus 7 (2013) and the ASUS Memopad HD 7.
Do you know how the ASUS' performance is? Does it slow down a lot over time? Can it handle games (like Raging Thunder 2, Angry Birds, Super Hexagon, Anomaly, ...) properly? How is it for multi-tasking?
I've had a close look at the specifications and watched some reviews, and I came to the following conclusions;
Gorilla Glass. Considering what happened to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, it might be a good idea to go with the Nexus 7's Gorilla Glass, in case I drop it (which I hope I won't be clumsy enough to do again). Also, I'm going with this cover, since the cover I had for my Galaxy Tab was no use when it really came to the test... It actually slid out of the cover from the top in mid-air before it hit the ground... No more open-top slide-out tablet covers for me >.<
Performance. While the ASUS Memopad HD 7 will perform fine for the time being, I can't help but feel that the lower specifications in combination with ASUS' Android modifications will bog it down a lot over time (like happened with my Galaxy Tab).
Software updates. With the Nexus I won't get stuck with outdated Android versions, which will save me from having to void my warranty in order to keep my device up-to-date.
Development. Because of the fact that the Nexus will always have the latest version of Android, I'll finally be able to kiss the buggy Android Emulator good bye for development work
Custom ROMs. When I'm sick of Android, with the Nexus 7 I can just grab Firefox OS, Ubuntu Touch, or any other ROM out there and flash it, since they all support the Nexus line of devices.
The no MicroSD thing limits my storage capacity and makes transferring files just a little less convenient, but since I'll go for the 32GB version I think I won't soon be short on storage space, and the performance gained from the lack of external storage capabilities (or that's what I as a long-time Linux user am assuming anyway, having swallowed a lot of frustrations about FAT32 and especially NTFS performance ) makes up for some of it.
Well, I'll have to kiss my 3G and camera LED good bye, but it looks like I'm going to order the Nexus 7 tomorrow (or sometime soon)
For external storage, you can use something like Meenova's $12 microSD card reader, which I use and love.
Alternatives for a few bucks are a USB OTG adapter for regular USB thumbdrives. They come in corded versions, straight, and right-angle.

And oh gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof and because it is harder to make it more scratch resistant also more brittle and therefore more likely to break
Never was a fan of Samsung tablets. Have had both the 2012 and now the 2013 nexus 7 and couldn't be happier. Such a good tablet for the price, and the quick updates are nice as well.

What?! Great... "We want to sell more of these things. Let's make everything about them great, but make sure the whole thing breaks at the first drop."
That kinda sucks a lot... I'm generally quite careful with my devices, but my Galaxy Tab often got wedged between two sharp objects in my backpack (that's why I had a cover with a solid plate in it to protect the screen).
Can anyone perhaps recommend me a good cover? I've seen the "Travel Cover", but that just looks like an incredible useless piece of flimsy rubber to surround the device. I'm looking for something that would really protect the screen and wouldn't open on its own in my backpack. The only really solid cover I've seen for the Nexus 7 (2013) so far was €50, which is quite a lot (my Galaxy Tab's cover only cost €15) :/

I bought the official one but can't really recommend it, too expensive, no magnet/smart open/close, and it falls quite often but it was the only one available at the time which could be delivered within a few days here in Holland instead of weeks...
oh mediamarket often has different prices on the internet than in the store (often 20% more expensive in store) but you can check it out

I got a chance to try out the Nexus 7 and Memopad HD 7 in Auchan, where the try-out models where positioned right next to each other. Let's just say that if I needed any more persuasion to go for the Nexus 7, that would have been it. I picked up my Nexus 7 at MyCom today (MediaMarkt's web store sucks total ass), and let !e tell you; This thing is fast!
Thanks for the advice

HTC M8 Prime coming out? What do you think?

HTC M8 Prime coming out? What do you think?
Would you be upset since you just purchased the M8?
Bla.. Sell this one buy the new one. Should companies stop making phone and adhere to some useless timelines like make a phone every year or 2 years etc. There is a new snapdragon 805 coming, new phones with QHD displays coming out soon. It will be foolish of HTC or any other company to wait till next year to release a phone with the new soc, screens etc.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 is going to be insane that's for sure. But if the rumors are true about the screen being 5.5 inch, I definitely don't want one. I'm drawing the line at a 5 inch screen, and I'm going to pray to every god I can think of that they don't decide to make the standard any bigger lol.

omg you said that spot on!
When is a phone not a phone.
When it becomes a phablet. I think their is a fine line to what you can hold sensibly like a phone. Even if you have huge mitts.
I have large hands and this is my limit, size wise for a daily driver. Being able to fit in my pocket etc.
But second devices are always good

People have been saying this since the original Galaxy Note came out. At the time, most industry commenters expected the Note to fail spectacularly, but it, and its successors, were a massive commercial success.

Whilst I have an M8, it isn't my primary phone - that's a Galaxy Note 3. So, my M8 is my secondary device!
I don't care if people say it's "too big" because for my purposes I don't find that to be the case at all - and I don't have overly large hands and find the Note 3 perfectly pocketable.
The point is that we all have different needs and requirements.

I'd hazard a guess then that you're significantly younger than me!
My first hand portable phone was a Nokia Orange: http://www.mobilephonehistory.co.uk/nokia/nokia_2140.php
It was over double the size (volumetrically) than my Note 3, and, obviously, a far less capable device with a lot lower battery life. It was also one of the first GSM (digital) devices, and as such much smaller than most of the analogue phones you could get back then.
My point is that it didn't really seem silly or unusual to have such a large device back then.
Given how much more capable modern phones are, I don't have a problem with the size, because, for me, the benefits of the large screen massively outweigh any disadvantages (of which there are surprisingly few). I'd happily add a few mm and grams to the Note 3 (and my M8 for that matter) to get an even bigger battery, but I digress!

Dave

Technology spent years trying to 'downsize' their products and now all of a sudden it wants big and brash again. Incidentally, are we heading back to here? (My first mobile)
I have no problems with the bigger products. Like I said, it's just when people hold them to their ears.

P.S. Sorry for being Off topic OP - but it is kind of relevant
I dont think HTC will start selling a device just like their flagship but more powerful. They will aim an other market, and the 5.5 Inch rumor makes sense. I personally own the M8 and for my personal preferences thats the maximum size for a phone. There are people which are ok with their One MAX or Note 3. I just think this device will not be out to compete with the One M8

Good point. Actually, at those days we used to make a call with the phone in our hands. Today I have a bt-headset and a pebble, which let me keep my phone in the pocket unless I need to google or read mails. Then, of course, size matters!
BTW, my jeans pockets are the same size than those of 1994, so what?
We will soon see that even Apple steps away from their masters voice, which claimed "nobody needs a phone bigger that an iPhone".

Yeah, I underclocked and undervolted my CPU, constantly uses power saving mode, and my M8 still handles all the multitasking and games flawlessly.
The thing is, smartphones are significantly over-powered nowadays. In terms of usage, the jump from S801 to S805 or anything faster would be far less necessary in at least a year.
The prime would probably just have better specs. No point in it since I end up underclocking my CPU to 1.8GHz and only using 3 cores lol. Still don't see any lag.
