(I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong subforum.)
Recently, my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, which came for free with my internet subscription, kissed the ground;

I actually used this tablet almost every day, so I'd like to get a working tablet again as soon as possible.
My options at this point are:
* Go to a shop and have them replace the glass. This would probably cost me around €100.
* Buy a new tablet.
At first glance, this seems like an easy choice (option 2), BUT:
If I buy a new tablet, it won't have mobile internet (not even EDGE), because it seems impossible to get a good tablet with mobile internet for under €300. I'm a college student who just bought an expensive new laptop, so I can't really cough up that much.
Then again; paying a shop €100 to fix a tablet which is already outdated and getting quite slow... well, I'm not sure.
I've also been looking at how much a new (7") tablet would cost me.
* Nexus 7 (2013); The obvious option is a Nexus 7, which would set me back €255 (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/asus-google...1321/?Referrer=ADVNLTWE0020159200000018271321). Good screen, good performance, rear-facing camera (which I do often use), plenty of custom ROM's out there and always the latest version of Android.
* ASUS Memopad HD 7 (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/asus-memo-pad-hd-7-wifi-16-gb-blauw/9200000015013549/); €150; Decent resolution display, don't know about performance (can anyone comment on the performance of this device?)
I watched some reviews, and I think the Nexus 7 or the ASUS Memopad HD 7 (thanks, salv-ice) are my best options. But for reference, these are the other two devices I was considering.
* Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-F-00018 (http://www.campusshop.be/zcs-02/80013239/lenovo-ideatab-a3000-f-00018-16gb/details.aspx); €110; Low-resolution screen, rear-facing camera. I don't know a whole lot about tablet and smartphone hardware, so perhaps someone could tell me whether this device would be performant enough for daily use (I have a tendency of loading my devices with apps until the internal storage is full)?
* Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (http://www.campusshop.be/zcs-02/80012767/samsung-galaxy-tab3-7-0-8gb/details.aspx); €155; Low-resolution screen, rear-facing camera, performance looks fine but again I don't really know...
I'm hoping someone can advise me on what my best option would be; because I really don't know. I think it's probably safe to assume that I'll have to learn to live without 3G on my tablet, and that it's not really worth having my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus' screen fixed, but I don't know enough about tablet hardware to safely say whether the Nexus 7 (2013) is worth paying for more than double the price of the Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-F-00018.
PS: The "low-resolution screen" (1024x600) probably wouldn't be a very big turnoff to me, since that's the same resolution my old tablet has and I never really noticed that it was so low.
Owning 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7's I would recommend the 2013 model if you can afford it. Better screen, better cpu, thinner and lighter than any other 7 inch tab out there. When you'll get used to it you'll never want to go back !!
If you really want something cheaper I would not recommend Samsung at all... Their Tab 3 series is quite expensive for what you get...
Another option would be the Asus Memo pad HD7, for 150 € you have a quad core cpu and a good HD screen (1280*800). I offered one to my brother for Christmas and he's very happy with it

Ok, so I can scrap the Nexus 7 (2012) from my list, then

For €120 (http://www.bol.com/nl/p/asus-memo-pad-hd-7-wifi-8-gb-blauw/9200000020863717/) this doesn't look at all bad, although I'm not too thrilled about the 2MP camera. How is it for custom ROM support? It's not the most important thing, but it's always a plus Also, is ASUS as terrible as Samsung when it comes to pushing out official software updates?
Edit: There's also a €150 one with a 5MP camera. I haven't checked whether there are other differences.

I did not search for custom roms but I guess you'll find some roms as this device becomes quite popular.
About updates, Asus is like all the other companies : slowww
But they build quality devices (my TF101 is still running fine after 2 years) and they fix the bugs quite quickly.
If you want bleeding edge software and lots of roms, you should go for the Nexus

So now it's pretty much between the Nexus 7 (2013) and the ASUS Memopad HD 7.
Do you know how the ASUS' performance is? Does it slow down a lot over time? Can it handle games (like Raging Thunder 2, Angry Birds, Super Hexagon, Anomaly, ...) properly? How is it for multi-tasking?
I've had a close look at the specifications and watched some reviews, and I came to the following conclusions;
Gorilla Glass. Considering what happened to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, it might be a good idea to go with the Nexus 7's Gorilla Glass, in case I drop it (which I hope I won't be clumsy enough to do again). Also, I'm going with this cover, since the cover I had for my Galaxy Tab was no use when it really came to the test... It actually slid out of the cover from the top in mid-air before it hit the ground... No more open-top slide-out tablet covers for me >.<
Performance. While the ASUS Memopad HD 7 will perform fine for the time being, I can't help but feel that the lower specifications in combination with ASUS' Android modifications will bog it down a lot over time (like happened with my Galaxy Tab).
Software updates. With the Nexus I won't get stuck with outdated Android versions, which will save me from having to void my warranty in order to keep my device up-to-date.
Development. Because of the fact that the Nexus will always have the latest version of Android, I'll finally be able to kiss the buggy Android Emulator good bye for development work
Custom ROMs. When I'm sick of Android, with the Nexus 7 I can just grab Firefox OS, Ubuntu Touch, or any other ROM out there and flash it, since they all support the Nexus line of devices.
The no MicroSD thing limits my storage capacity and makes transferring files just a little less convenient, but since I'll go for the 32GB version I think I won't soon be short on storage space, and the performance gained from the lack of external storage capabilities (or that's what I as a long-time Linux user am assuming anyway, having swallowed a lot of frustrations about FAT32 and especially NTFS performance ) makes up for some of it.
Well, I'll have to kiss my 3G and camera LED good bye, but it looks like I'm going to order the Nexus 7 tomorrow (or sometime soon)
For external storage, you can use something like Meenova's $12 microSD card reader, which I use and love.
Alternatives for a few bucks are a USB OTG adapter for regular USB thumbdrives. They come in corded versions, straight, and right-angle.

Check this, you can get an n7 at least 5 beers cheaper :
http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/344636/asus-nexus-7-32gb-wifi-(2013)-zwart.html
And oh gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof and because it is harder to make it more scratch resistant also more brittle and therefore more likely to break
Never was a fan of Samsung tablets. Have had both the 2012 and now the 2013 nexus 7 and couldn't be happier. Such a good tablet for the price, and the quick updates are nice as well.

how about N7 2013 LTE? You can use mobile data with it although custom roms are not that many compared to flo.

What?! Great... "We want to sell more of these things. Let's make everything about them great, but make sure the whole thing breaks at the first drop."
That kinda sucks a lot... I'm generally quite careful with my devices, but my Galaxy Tab often got wedged between two sharp objects in my backpack (that's why I had a cover with a solid plate in it to protect the screen).
Can anyone perhaps recommend me a good cover? I've seen the "Travel Cover", but that just looks like an incredible useless piece of flimsy rubber to surround the device. I'm looking for something that would really protect the screen and wouldn't open on its own in my backpack. The only really solid cover I've seen for the Nexus 7 (2013) so far was €50, which is quite a lot (my Galaxy Tab's cover only cost €15) :/

I bought the official one but can't really recommend it, too expensive, no magnet/smart open/close, and it falls quite often but it was the only one available at the time which could be delivered within a few days here in Holland instead of weeks...
oh mediamarket often has different prices on the internet than in the store (often 20% more expensive in store) but you can check it out

You can order it from their website and pick it up in one of their stores, though
I got a chance to try out the Nexus 7 and Memopad HD 7 in Auchan, where the try-out models where positioned right next to each other. Let's just say that if I needed any more persuasion to go for the Nexus 7, that would have been it. I picked up my Nexus 7 at MyCom today (MediaMarkt's web store sucks total ass), and let !e tell you; This thing is fast!
Thanks for the advice
Look for the cover from Poetic: Slimline or Revolution for the n7 2013. ive recently tot the Slimlin and I really Like it alot

My wife got the Nexus 4, and mine is on the way. I'm not so sure I want it. I had the galaxy nexus and loved it. The nexus 4 is a great device, love it. But there are some things I don't like.
Thinking about buying this phone instead.
I like the removable battery, expandable storage, better camera than n4, kind of like touch wiz a little (especially note the just announced the new update package with cool features)
Also, service at my desk is horrible. Its fine everywhere else. But every T-Mobile phone I've owned has had better service at my desk. Kind of a deal breaker, and I think the s3 will be better.
Thoughts?
Kind of like the ability for USB otg as well. Can't on the nexus 4. Also, nexus 4 feels to fancy, like breakable fancy. I like the s3 feel. Feels cheaper, but sturdier cheaper. Make sense? Like only using fine China on occasion. Use the cheap stuff daily

S3 is better, plus you can flash CM10 for that nexus. Only reason why nexus is better is for latest updates.
Lol you basically put down ask the reasons of why get an s3.

I currently have both phones.
My SGS3 is rooted with a highly modified Touchwiz based rom, kernel, etc etc. I am no stranger to CM and AOKP roms and have run them on past phones as well as tried them on the SGS3.
The N4 is now running a AOKP ROM.
There's a lot to like about both devices. The pentile screen on the SGS3 STILL bugs me a little. Any closer than 5 or 6 inches and I can see the cross hatch pattern in certain colors. If you need WiFi calling, stop reading and go buy the SGS3.
The SGS3 IMO is a better all around friendlier device. As you mentioned, it has a micro-SD slot, removable battery, etc etc. As much as people knock it for it's plastic-y feel, the device is solid. Mine does not creak or flex, and the seams line up near perfectly. I think the biggest thing here is the plastic battery door cover that just seems to clip on and off. I don't mind it at all, it's just an interpretation on how to construct a device. Plus, with it's beveled rear the device feels even slimmer than it already is. The Touchwiz argument is also an interesting one to me. The SGS3 has been super easy to Mod. Plenty of dev support for all of it's versions. If you want to run Touchwiz you can, and there are some things to like, especially with the recently announced features. If you want to run something else, that can be done too, and IMO it's a fairly simple process.
The N4 to me is more of a statement. The build quality is excellent. The materials are excellent. If this phone had a microSD card slot and WiFi calling, I'd sell my SGS3 in a heartbeat, but it doesn't. I love to mod my phones so the microSD card slot makes a big difference to me. At 8gb or 16gb, Google is also telling users to move to the cloud for storage. Funny enough, the N4 getting the latest OS can be a hindrance as much as a virtue. Some apps still don't work right on 4.2. Even google's own Chrome browser likes to FC.
In the end, they're both FANTASTIC devices. From a stylistic point of view, the N4 wins. Having used both phones for a few days, I will tell you right now that speed is not an issue with either phone. Setup properly, I dare you to find either one of them flinch or skip a beat. My SGS3 actually feels faster than my N4, but that's a lot like saying a Aventador is faster than a 458. IMO, unless you're a gamer, processor speed is not really a limiting factor for phones at this level.
The N4 does feel "fancier" than the SGS3, but make no mistake, you WILL wince if I told you to drop either of them. One look at what seems like an acre of gorilla glass on the SGS3 and the first thought you're going to have is "I'm going to HATE myself if I ever drop this thing". I'd say from this perspective, the only difference would be is, if you happen to drop the phone on it's back, the SGS3 cover can be replaced easily and cheaply, but if the rear glass on the N4 shatters....... well, ouch.
Simply put, there's no bad choice.
Good luck, hope this helped.

You my friend hit the nail right on the head. I got the SGS3 32GB and I still think I need more space. I take a lot of pictures and videos so I need it. I'm sorry but there is no way tmobile's coverage is good enough to depend on cloud service consistently. For some reason I lose signal at almost every Target locations so I can't even check into Shopkick. If I can't even do that, there is no frakking way I can depend on cloud.
OOTB, the SGS3 will stutter on most things that I do. However, with morfic and FrostyJB_4.1.1, I'm good. The ONLY thing I want for my SGS3 is that screen from N4. Penile AMOLED gets on my nerves occasionally but I can live with it. Lack of space, I can't live with that.
So there. Storage is the most important factor for me. What's yours?

I completely agree with what you guys say. For me, the micro sd card does it. I have the 16gb s3 and a 16 th card and I'm almost out of space. People use their device for different things and I use them for music. I have my entire music library on my phone and I don't use mp3 but instead flac lossless and if you use them, you know these files are 20-35MB per song. So for me, that's why I didn't sell my s3 for the nexus 4. The screen on the s3 also annoys me. So much, that I.considered sacrificing some songs to get the nexus 4. First pentile screen that I used was the Motorola Atrix 4G and the pentile made the screen garbage. I came with the s3 because it was the best phone t mobile had and I also seen reviews where they said the high pixel density made the pentile not matter. Well it still bus me so now I know for my next phone. I also can't rely on cloud storage because of the inconsistent signal from t mobile. In the mall yesterday, I got 1-2 signal (sometimes none) while my soon to be girlfriend :fingers crossed: had full signal with att. And no matter what carrier you have ,you are limited to data and steaming can make a dent so cloud won't become more useful for steaming for a while. And if I go on a trip, I can't friend in streaming either. A 64 GB nexus 4 child have gone the trick for many people. Although we dislike the sealed battery, many can deal with it and I can, but not with no large memory or sd slot
That's a tough sell

I disabled about 30 apps and typically run 550-750mb of ram at the most. I basically cut the OS down to only the parts I use. It helped a lot to speed things up on the SGS3.

I don't think I'll personally use it that often, but the biggest thing for me is that, if I wanted to, I could (if I stick with the SGS3). There's not telling if any of this will get ported to AOSP/AOKP, but if it doesn't, it means you don't have a choice. As much as people knock Touchwiz and even Sense, they are pretty convenient and come with some cool features. Touchwiz especially with all of the Samsung specific software. If you have other Samsung devices that are compatible, that can also factor in on the decision.
I may end up keeping both phones. haha.

I have a Tmo s3 and bought a N4. I used N4 for a couple of days and let's just say, I came back to my s3.
- on s3 you get the entire 4.8" of screen so watching netflix and reading flipboard, pulse and web surfing is better imo.(on N4 you don't get the entire 4.7")
- I'm not a fan of on-screen buttons because i have accidently hit home button a few times when I meant to type space bar on the keyboard(super annoying)
- ext. micro sd slot. (hallelujah) . I can keep official touchwiz rom nandroid backup on intenal sd and my all other rom backups on my ext. sd giving me ample space on my internal sd.(I like to switch roms back and forth)
- split screen is getting pushed soon.
- removable batteries.(not a deal breaker but nice to have the option)
- stock camera app on s3 definitely takes better pictures and video shooting has pause option.
- and if i break or brick my phone i only have to pay $130 deductible to get a replacement. /knockOnWood
N4
- has better build feel and look.
- google wallet out the box.
- first to get updates.
- wireless charging capability
- miracast feature with just a cheap on-TV dongle for non smartTVs
- raw power for gamers.(geekbench scores 2050-2085 out the box. iphone 5 gets 1600+)
but ultimately, it all comes down to how you like to use your phone. but for me, s3 > N4.(slightly)
Thanks for awesome message. What time are you using for your S3. I'm looking for a good touch with romantic for my T-999v

Ha, that's not true. The Cyanogenmod developers seem to dislike the S3. It's crashy when running CM, and glitchy for some people. It's stable enough for most people to use, but if running AOSP is important, S3 support is a worry when buying a phone.
I wouldn't trade my 4 month old S3 with a brand new N4. Personally, I think the N4 looks better and has better screen (oh, and faster chip--> don't care). But the S3 is more practical due to supporting USB otg (Ive read that the N4's hardware don't support usb otg ), memory card, removable battery. Touchwiz is, actually, great after I experienced pure android on the N10. It is more friendly and convenient. Not sure about the N4, but playing media file on the N10 is a pain since it doesn't support many codec (since they are all Nexus so I assume they are the same). THe N4 may be the hottest phone atm, but the S3 is still better. (I ordered a N4 for my bro and it is coming today will have a chance to compare them)

I'm really torn with the s3. I'm finally due for an upgrade and was planning on getting the s3 but with all of the complaints about the screen and the fact the s4 is on the horizon I just might wait.. I do know that the SD card not being on the N4 is a deal breaker and I won't consider it no matter how great. Shame that Google seems to following in Apple's footsteps in that regards.

Do not forget about the battery life. Switched back from the nexus after a week of usage. Screen on time is horrible compared to the galaxy.

While cloud streaming is a great concept, I don't want to be forced to use it since it's not always the best solution for the situation. I like having choice.
No removable battery is also a deal breaker for me. I want to not care if I'm abusing the battery.
I would love to trade screen technology, but then again I like being able to save battery by lowering the brightness past stock settings when I don't need it.

I'm a big fan of Android, and I've been always working in Java, so the programming transition is kinda easy, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and I really like it, however, I always think on getting an Android tablet, something not expensive, 7'' with ICS 4.0 and above, but...would yo recommend to get a tablet if you already an Android phone with a "big" screen? I mean, I use my phone for mails, social network, utitilies, I have two minor apps developed for it, so I use it as a testing device as well, what do you think, isn't too repetitive to have both? I need some advices, I want a tablet, but I wouldn't end it up leaving it there doing nothing after a while, thanks!
If you feel you want a 7" tablet, i recommend you to buy the Nexus 7. Or you could just wait until a new Nexus 7 released which had been rumored coming next week in 24th July. It will have fast Android updates directly from Google. However, if you felt like 7" is small for you, you can buy the Nexus 10 or Asus Transformer Infinity. Both of them have a high range specs.

The question is because I'd like to buy a non expensive tablet, I'm not looking for anything with the latest specs, but want to know if some of you, who has a Note 2 and also a tablet, feel like both are being used in a regular way, I wouldn't like to buy a tablet and then leave it there doing nothing, I know that every person is different, but in general, does it worth to have both devices? thanks!

My answer is a simple NO, I have a Galaxy tab 10.1 and I hardly ever use it, personally i wouldn't need a 7Inc screen at all when owning a Note II.
I must confirm this - as you can see from my signature, I have Note II and Nexus 7, which is an excellent tablet, but I rarely use it since I got the SGNII. It is more convenient to use when I'm at home, and I do use it sometimes, but not much. Also I use it when I travel, I have to spare phone battery for emergency if I have to call etc. so another device comes in handy because of the "extra" battery
So, if you can afford it - get it, why not. But it is not necessary if you have SGNII and it is pretty much a waste of money. I have it only because my Desire HD died and then I got the Note....
The same with me. Since I own Note2 I didt play with my tablet even once. Actually I am looking to sell it. I am considering nexus7 ver 2 or even 10" but only something with a high resolution hdtv+ screen. Just to use it laying on a couch to read and watch hd movies. But really just considering this because note2 is optimal device in every aspect so far.

Depends on how good your eyes are. While the large screen of the Note 2 is a boon I often run into situations where text is too small for me to read without a magnifying glass, and the website that put it up won't let you zoom the screen! I used to use a 10-inch Transformer TF700, but its many problems and poor support made me give up on it. So I splurged on a Galaxy Note 8 -- just to keep things consistent -- and it makes life so much easier for these poor aging eyes.

First of all, thanks a lot for your opinions, I know that the needs of each one of us is different, but is good to have an opinion about someone who already have both devices, I guess I'll pass, if I would really need it, I would not think about it this much, as you say, the phone is more than enough, and if I purchase the tablet, I would use it from time to time, thank you, have a nice day! :good:
I honestly don't reckon you need a tablet and a Note 2. I've had an original iPad, a Blackerry PlayBook (LOL), and a Nexus 7, but since I got the Note I haven't used any of them. Having one device is just simpler, you only have to keep info correct and updated on one thing, and it's always in your pocket. A tablet can't do anything fundamentally better than a phone, and it sure is not a laptop replacement, so for me I decided to sell the lot and stick with just the Note. In saying that, I still find myself looking at the Note 8 and the Tab 3, but I won't consider buying anything with an LCD panel any more after being spoiled with HD AMOLED, heh.

I have a Galaxy note 10.1 to complement my Note 2. I recommend the pair if you find yourself absolutely in need of a tablet for extended sessions where you might be taking extensive notes or doing diagrams. (Or watching movies for longer periods of time...)
Being able to share files by wifi on the fly is a pretty nice advantage of having the two devices.
Why buy a tablet when everything it has or do is already on your phone? I still dont see the purpose of tablets :/ i wont even exchange it for my super laggy netbook

Hey guys, so I'm going Tablet hunting and have come down with 2 leading candidates, the Pipo M7 Pro, a Chinese Tablet. or the Nexus 7 (2013).
The only thing that worries me is the development. As a Flashaholic I'd like a tablet with decent dev support, and I haven't seen any dev support for the Pipo M7 Pro.
Now, the Nexus 7 Multi touch and GPS/random reboot issues have me here at bay, making the debate a bit more intense.
I'll probably use my tablet for reading, school related work or gaming/listening to music (rarely though, I'll probably have my Galaxy Nexus for that which works fine really(or a Nexus 5 by the time it comes out ))
Any recommendations/Opinions/Point of views will be appreciated.

Very real, though. And, to some degree, acknowledged by the powers that be at Google...
The people posting, including myself, have been through 2-3 of more N7 2013s.
It's the luck of the draw. It may only effect a few percent, but over the multi thousands sold, it's a percentage that needs to be taken seriously.
If you purchase one, be sure that it's from a seller offering a good return/exchange policy.

Chinese stuff is just not up to par as brand name stuff yet. Their specs look great, benchmarks are great, but in reality they are far far apart when you use both side by side.
I have a Ifive X2 with a RK3188 and it lags like hell, battery is good, screen is nice, but real world performance is just awful. Since I got my Note 8 from repair, I dont use the X2 at all anymore.
For the small price difference it just makes no sense to consider Chinese stuff vs a Nexus 7.

This Pipo M7 Pro isn't a fastest tablet in the world and after a bit of customizations is in real world usable. The screen is impressive, good battery, very good Wi-Fi and the firmware is stable. I don't regret my (old ) Nexus 7
M7 is great for browsing internet, reading books and multimedia but not too suited for video games.
I am satisfied but not enthusiastic.

Pipo is a pretty good Chinese company, we're not just talking about those ripoff chinese companies you find on Ebay, and I have used Rockchip based devices and can vouch for them, they're not as bad as you say.
So your "no sense to consider Chinese stuff vs a Nexus 7" is kind of stereotypical and not really reliable

First,
I agree with the above line in bold.
Second,
If you aren't in a hurry to buy a tablet, I'd wait to see what the TegraTab and the LG G Pad 8.3 end up being like. That's what I'm going to do when I return/exchange my N7 flo for the 3rd time. I'm on my 2nd one now, so hopefully the 3rd try will be the the charm! I expect both those options to be more expensive, but if either of them is within 100 of the 32gb N7 flo (as long as it's 32gb or 16gb with a microsd), then I'll probably give it a shot.
Third,
If you absolutely want a tablet right now, I can't recommend the N7 in good conscience. Having had two with the same exact issue(multitouch), I would say the odds are pretty good that you'd get one with the same issue. That said, if the N7 is what you like and you don't mind potentially returning/exchanging it, get one. Just be sure to buy from somewhere with a good return/exchange program. I've had pretty good luck with Best Buy so far, as well as Amazon. I'd choose Best Buy if there's one near you for ease of returning/exchanging, i.e. no wait time.
Good Luck!

I have one of the latest and greatest Chinese tabs as I write in my post.
Yes they are better then what they used to be but they still lack in some aspects. These tabs using the RK3188 chip in real life are just not want the benchmarks want you to believe. The Chinese keep cutting corners where they shouldn't and it shows. So yeah it looks like you get a lot for 200$ but when you use it you understand why its cheaper.
It's no surprise that all the high end Chinese tabs and phones end up using Qualcomm and Samsung CPUs and cost almost the same as brand name stuff.

I had Asus Infinity TF700T before, but I was very disappointed about the build quality and the lagging of the device. I hated that tab every moment. I didn't install custom rom because it required unlocking the device and loosing the warranty. So I sold it and bought Pipo M7pro.
I like the screen and size of the tablet and this is much faster and smoother than Asus TF700. Also the build quality is better than on Asus, which had loose screen even repaired three times for warranty.
Multi window feature is pretty cool! Check the video from youtube.
I'm really satisfied of this cheap Chinese tab!

So after reading some of your messages and doing some more research on my own. I've decided to wait until October, if the Nexus 7 multitouch problems have been resolved (they're addressing the problem at their warehouses/manufacturers or fixed it on an update) I'll buy it, if not, then Pipo M7 Pro will have to be my choice.
Really like the N7 but what use is there buying it when chances are that I'll get a broken Tablet, no, I can wait, I trust Google that they'll resolve this soon, it isn't the first time they've encountered a problem with manufacturers, like the N4 for example, with the infamous exploding back(I did think it was spontaneous and comical so I did have a laugh about it, hopefully the owners got a replacement though)

I think the Chinese phones and tablets may have some issues but then again so do other phones. In my opinion it is best to wait for a very comprehensive review before you buy. And only buy from a near-by supplier that is willing to take it back if it is faulty, do not buy direct from China because it is unlikely to get your money back, plus the shipping costs and customs would make it uneconomical to return items.
For example, a year ago I bought a Chinese phone, with superb specifications. It seems to have two faults (at least). First, it is very fussy with the SD card, many applications do not work with it and especially GPS Navigation applications that store huge maps on the SD card. Secondly the GPS receiver is either broken or simply very, very bad. My dedicated Garmin GPS, my wife's iPhone4, my son's Samsung S3 : they all lock on to the GPS almost instantly. The Chinese phone needs to be absolutely stand still for like 5-10 minutes before it can lock on. Completely useless in the car for example, I have to stop the car, and then wait 5-10 minutes so it can lock.
Someone said above that high-end Chinese phones and tabs use Qualcomm and Samsung parts and not their own. Well, no **** Sherlock! That qualifies as one of the most idiotic statements I have read. Every single electronic device in the world uses parts made by various/hundreds of other manufacturers. This has always been the case. I would not expect the Pipo M7 Pro to have components made by Pipo - and it does not matter anyway. My Sony VAIO laptop does not use a "SONY" CPU, or chipset, or GPU, or memory, or capacitors, or resistors, actually I doubt that a single component inside my laptop is actually made by Sony, except perhaps the badge!!!
I have to say, I bought the 2012 N7 as well as my 2013 and both were flawless from the start. My fiancee got my 2012 when i bought my new one and it's still going strong. The only issue I have at all with the 2013 is a delayed wake when using a magnetic cover. That's obviously a software issue, as leaving Bluetooth on fixes the problem.
Oh and Zilliman, your Chinese phone sounds like my old Samsung Captivate. That thing had the worst GPS I've ever seen. Developers worked hard to fix it but it was never very good. Completely useless even when walking, let alone driving.

Here's a problem for those with N7 Pro : the speakers crackle at high volume.
Do not buy M7 Pro
OK I guess finally I may have something to help after getting so many helps from this nice forum.
I live in China and I'd say I'm quite familiar with Chinese tablets and nexus devices. (proud owner of both types) I've yet to find a Chinese native brand tablet that marches either Nexus 7's build quality or OS stability. (always search for teardown pics before decision) Usually they have small problems here or there, but you don't have a bug list and workaround thread in a good forum simply because they don't have enough users.
There are worth buying Chinese tablets though. They are usually much cheaper than Nexus 7, don't have fatal problems, have good user base and forums to post workarounds of those small issues, and recently they start to come in so many varieties of screen size. (there used to be a time when they are mainly 7" widescreen, before the mighty Nexus 7's arrival.)
IMHO if you prefer 7" tablet, just grab the new Nexus 7. If not, don't buy M7 Pro for the following reasons:
1 Rockchip is not as friendly to devs as its rival SoC company Allwinner. I can find unofficial CM10.2 on AllWinner platform but I find almost nothing on Rockchip;
2 RK3188 seems strong, but in practice it's not a good chip for HD "Retina" display due to poor design choice of a single channel 32bit memory controller, which results a memory bandwidth that nearly kills GPU performance. BTW that's just a fraction of bandwidth compared to the new Nexus 7. I heard the GPU performance is so poor that even stock launcher can't go butterly smooth.
However RK3188 + a 1024*768 display is fine.
Summary: don't buy RK3188+HD display like the M7 Pro; strongly recommend new Nexus 7
correction: No Chinese SoC performs well on 1080p display. I'd guess 720p is the limit.
Hope it helps
Good evening.
I was wondering if I should get the Nexus 7 (2013) or wait for the next Google Tablet may it be a nexus or silver or L or whatever it is called.
As I understood instead of ASUS google chose HTC for its next device.
The thing is, I was curious and wanted to wait for it..
But - I found the nexus 7 (2013) 16GB for 195$.
Any suggestions ?
btw, I read some mixed review - does it have an external SD option or not ?
thanks in advance.
Definitely buy the current tablet its great and it will get the L update soon. 1.5 GHz doesn't seem like a lot compared to others but trust me, great tablet easy to root. Tons of support and big community. Buy the current nexus 7.

Thanks mate ... seriously considering it ...
Question though... Can you swap its battery or put in an SD card ?
Since its not water proof I assume you could, but I can't seem to find anything to support that...
some sites say it has SD and in some others when I look at the specs. it doesn't mention the SD option...
I guess NEXUS 7 (2013) only have 1 version right ? (I live in Japan so we tend to get "special" versions)

Got it
Thanks...
Have a nice day.
You would want 32gb if storage is an issue, I got mine 3 months back and its worth it but I'm wondering if lte is better since I could just use it as a phone instead. Having phone and tablet is a luxury to me especially with 4+ inch screens.
I use a server at home for data storage.
The tablet is thin and it fits in my pockets comfortably.
Its not too late, the screen is superior than average and the performance is quick
After returning my Nexus 7 twice to Asus and finally getting a good working unit, I've found that my Note 3 kills this tablet. Washed out colors, slower performance, and gets hot quick. Nexus 7 is a good device for you first time tablet owners and those that don't have a larger smartphone. Good luck if you decide to buy, there will always be good dev support for this device.
You should buy it if you really need it. I guess 195$ for Wifi only, right?
I own one, it is good device and lot of support. But I have an Android phone and a big laptop, so that sometime I only use my n7 for chatting when I work.
7inch is good. But if I were you, I would wait the new 8inch
They have certified refurbished off of Ebay right now for only $159 which is what I picked up for a 32gb Wifi. Figured its cheap enough that even if I only use it for a bit it should be worth it and will be a big replacement for my Asus T700
It is a fantastic device. I am in love with mine even after owning a Galaxy Tab S. Definitely a good buy at that price. I would always buy new... Never returned but that is personal preference.
I got the LTE and my daughters have the WiFi 2012. Both great and I do a lot of gaming in multiplayer. But the new nexus looks like it has been really improved and word is end of summer it may come out. If it were me I'd probably wait unless I really needed one right away.
Hey guys.
So, I was thinking about buying an Android tablet, so, as I am a Nexus 5 owner, my first thought was the Nexus 9, but the thing is just too expensive for me, I want something on the cheap side.
So after thinking for a bit I remembered the N7, it's got great hardware, it runs Lollipop and its freaking cheap. But it's from 2013, which I know its not necessarily a bad thing, so I want your opinion as you actually have the tablet.
Is it still worth buying? Amazon is selling it for $197.
I bought my Nexus 7 eleven months ago. I'm very satisfied with it. If you're planning to root it and unlock the bootloader, you'll be able to update with custom ROMs for quite awhile. If you're planning to run it stock unrooted, you may want to consider a newer tablet.
Yes, I think so. There's one 1 other tablet that can compete in terms of price, support, and price: the LG G Pad 8.4 GPE. Good luck finding one though. I didn't buy my Nexus 7 until this summer and I couldn't be happier.
Updates for the rest of this year, at a minimum. My only issue is with deb updates, which get held up due to LTE. Save yourself some more money by buying a refurb unit.
This may sway you... Check your local Staples store - they're having an unpublished clearance on 2013 Nexus 7. $98 for 16GB or $128 for 32GB. Many stores no longer have stock, but of you can find one it's a great deal.

Definitely gonna check this out. Thanks a lot ?
And thank you all for your quick reply.
I just bought mine like 2 weeks ago.... It was a decent price (before the groupon deal)
and it does exactly what I need it to... which is work dual purpose as a home/car tablet.
Honestly I would have rather had a Nexus 10, just because I am a bit of an HTC fanboy,
But in just home use it's still faster than my HTC One M7. actually.... a lot faster.
Has decent dev support, not so much in the way of car roms/mods but still a good overall tablet.
Im still using my 2012 version
I was really excited for the Nexus 9 but I think it'll be too big and the price point is too high. I have repurchased my Nexus 7 a few times due to dropping and theft. The touchscreen on the Nexus 7 2013 is flaky when using a case or 1-handed operation because of a grounding issue with the device. Using the device 2 handed like normal you will rarely see any issues.
Gaming on the other hand is retarded on the Nexus 7 2013.
I try to play Terraria and it is just a frustrating mess. The dual thumbpad touchscreen controls get confused occasionally and causes me to either shoots or run off in the wrong direction. You have to take both thumbs off to reset it temporarily. Just FYI. This is normal across all Nexus 7 units as far as I have known. Some are more noticeable than others but they all have it. There are some flashable fixes that update the touchscreen firmware to have various degrees of sensitivity to help fix this but nothing is ever fixed completely. The fixes have helped make my tablet more enjoyable to use day-to-day but gaming will never be 100%.
I have purchased a Asus MeMoPad 7 for $20 for my son. A little lackluster tablet but plays games better then my Nexus 7.
Personally I was looking at the Nvidia Shield Tablet with a digitizer pen enabled screen. It seems to have issues of its own. The LG G Tabs, as mentioned above, are really solid tablets. I know you can pick up an LG version (with LG software) for pretty cheap. There isn't much development on that tablet though, unfortunately.
The Nexus 7 2013 is a steal at $128 if you can find one. Very solid unit. If my Nexus 7 2013 broke today, I would look else where.
Its worth every Penny..
Go for it.. I just received mine .. and flashed with the Android 5.0.2. factory image
Its magical

I have had my Nexus 7 2013 for well over a year and I wouldn't replace it for anything. I did break last month when I slipped it into my back pocket like an idiot I sat on it and it broke the screen. Although Asus lost my Nexus for almost a month, it was still covered by its warranty..and they repaired it for free.. I Now use a Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, but its no Nexus.. I like the bigger screen, its the Nexus is still better in every way except there is no Micro SD slot.. I need a device I can carry with me that has a Micro SD.. Hence the use for the Galaxy tab.. But if you'd ask me to choose between the 2.. I'd take the Nexus any day..
If the price is right I don't think you can go far wrong. Internally, it's pretty much a Nexus 4 with a Full HD screen and a much better battery. :highfive:
I've had the LG Gad 8.3 for a day and whilst its a nice piece of kit, the aluminium back is slippery and being that touch bigger, you can't get your hand around it like the Nexus 7. There is also a ton of bloat.
Whilst I'm not convinced by Lollipop on my phone, it runs great on the Nexus 7. :victory:
i bought mine from tweakers.nl for 117 € it was a used one without warranty
