Selling Nexus 7 for 2013 version?

Worth Selling Nexus 7 to buy the 2013 version? I don't know what to do?... Need some help.

for reading, well because of the high res, yes
listening to music, depends if you use speaker or headphones.
you might if you want to, the changes are a lot of them, my brother owns a old nexus 7, it's good but not comparable to mine.

Hell yes. I could never go back to my old Nexus 7 after buying the new one a few months ago. Everything on it is better: display, sound, performance, battery life, size/weight, etc/etc. I thought I might regret buying it since I already had the other (was wife's really, but she hardly ever used it), but I guarantee it's a MUCH better tablet than the 2012 model. I am very pleased with my new Nexus 7, and bet you will be too!

So u recommend me to sell it? The new Nexus still has the speaker problem? Btw I agree all that u say. I use the tablet for surfing and rarely gaming. I could see a lot of difference in gaming and surfing with the new one? Thx again!

I'm not not sure what this "speaker problem" is you're referring too, the speaker works fine on both my nexus 7s (2012 and 2013 models). But yes, the 2013 model is a solid upgrade. If you primarily use it for web browsing you might not see enough of a difference to justify the upgrade, but if you do much multitasking or play graphic intensive games its worth it for sure.
I can't bring myself to part with my 2012 N7, but since picking up the 2013 it has been resigned to being nothing more than an alarm clock.

You'll notice things look sharper and scrolling feels smoother.
The N7FHD doesn't have the blown speaker problem that some of the old N7's had. And no issues w/ the screen glue popping loose.
However, the N7FHDs can have other problems, including random reboots. I had to return my first one...same apps installed on the old N7 had no issues...the new one developed random reboots in a few days.
Others have said the GPS is flaky and there are multitouch issues. And others have complained the screens are easier to crack because the body flexes more easily because it's thinner.
Just things to be aware of...it is great when it's not flaky though
I read on it mostly too and love the "retina" screen..

I did it and don't regret it. I also had a $50 off coupon for Staples so the 32GB cost me $219+ tax and I sold my original with OEM case for around $150 which helped to reduce the cost of the Nexus 7 (2013). Display is the !main reason to upgrade - it doesn't even compare. There's no way you'll be able to go back to the original after using the display. I loved my original Nexus 7 too and wondered if I would see that much of a difference but the new display is incredible. If you can sell your old one for a decent amount, I'd say do it. I do have some random reboots lately though but the thing boots so quickly that I can tolerate until a fix. Plus I think its because of the ROM I'm running: an unofficial version of CM11. Hope this helps.

Go for the 2013 model. I wouldn't really consider the 2014 version worth the wait over this one, because the new Nexus 10 hasn't even been established as yet. That's a pretty long wait.
Or, you can do what I did, and spend a little extra money for a warranty. I spent an extra $66 for a 2yr warranty from Radio Shack, and my tab holds its complete value until the day that the warranty ends. Plus, I'm protected from everything, INCLUDING BRICKS! I'm very happy with that.

Is it worth buying?

Hi guys,
Thinking of going and getting a 2013 Nexus 7 now. I would like to know how many really are effected by the touchscreen problems. Is it as bad as it is made out to be and would you recommend buying it?
I know some will say it doesnt have a problem and some say it does, but I am looking more at an overview. Is it worth buying or looking elsewhere?

Very small. Also, consider buying 32gb version if you want to eliminate all chances of getting defective device since 32gb versions are better built (strange as it sounds).
As for "worth buying" goes, I would definitely made the same choice and get this over any other tablet. Form factor is the best, screen is very good, good specs, cheap, and above all, the best android experience (pure stock with 100% guarantee for future android updates as soon as they are out since this is nexus device).

I have the 2012 version so was planning on skipping this one (both 32GB). But then I got my nexus 5 which made my old n7 feel very slow, so when I saw the 2013 n7 on sale I bought it knowing I could take it back if I decided it wasn't worth the upgrade. Mine doesn't have any problems and is so much superior than the old one I kind of wish I hadn't waited so long to upgrade.
Definitely worth buying.

I upgraded too after seeing one used at a good price. I've had no complaints with either device so far, though obviously the new version is a bit faster.

Well I bit the bullet and bought the 32Gb to replace a Tesco Hudl that died twice. Only been using it for 30 minutes, upgraded to 4.4.2 went fine and so far no touch problems.
Is really very smooth.

Exactly my experience except that I did buy one sooner (right after release) only to return it --major touch issues but also very poor display (same as old n7). This one is great. Bought gpad 8.3 which is going back. New N7 (16GB) is a better performer overall for my needs.

- I have not had any touch screen issues to date and I am using the 16GB.
- Coming from the original Kindle Fire (rooted) this was a massive upgrade and I absolutely love the device (Screen, audio, etc)

I have no touchscreen issues on the 16GB.
I absolutely recommend it. This tablet is fantastic.

Hi, I recently dropped, cracked my screen and broke the digitizer on my year old 1st generation Nexus 7.
I have two options:
1) Buy a new 2013 nexus 7 for 288$AUS
2) Replace my screen myself for 60$AUS off eBay with the risk of breaking my screen or tablet. I could also get scammed with a faulty or broken replacement screen
Please Note:
-Replacing the old Nexus 7's glass requires replacing the whole screen which ends up getting expensive.
-Replacing the Screen officially costs about 170$
I would like people's opinions on the new nexus 7 and is it worth the upgrade?

If you can get the Google play edition of the lg g pad in Australia you should go for that instead. Lg is superior hardware wise. Better build quality. Read about the touch problems of the n7 -13.

That device comes with its own set of issues just like every device. I have a new 13 n7 and it's perfect without issue!

I own the Nexus 7 for 3 months now. I've never had any mentioned issues with the touchscreen or random reboots.
It's a wonderful piece of hardware especially the display. Just love it.
On the down side it looks kind of fragile. The plastic on the sides of the screen, top device has few bruises although I don't remember ever dropping or hitting it against something.
All in all its a great value for the money.

I to have no problems and by far are no "loyalist" I initially did have some touchscreen issues, but have disappeared with the latest updates.

I like my nexus 2013 but after owning it for a while now I would recommend buying the old one brand new again, the overall shape and build is better IMO and as long as u don't need the upgraded screen I would save your money.

I didn't do much research, but it looks like the Google play edition is not available yet and the regular edition is 400$. My maximum budget is around 300$. The old N7 did have reports of bad build quality, bad touch screen and also random reboots but i was willing to take the risk and had no problems with it until it fell. I am willing to trust asus again and buy the new N7.

i own one and if i had to do it again i would stay away. Touchscreen issue plague my experience everyday..

Own a nexus 7 13, never had the problems. But, the gpad is a better choice.

Have owned both and the 2013 N7 is clearly much better than the 2012. Since the 4.4 release including 4.4.2 it's resolved all the touch issues including on ungrounded surface without touching with other hand. It's crazy to recommend the 2012 since it's inferior in a lot of ways such as display, DRAM, performance and it had touch issues too but don't know if it was ever resolved since I ended up selling mine.

Is it worth the upgrade? Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on which unit you get in your hands. I pre-ordered my first N7 (2013) and an hour after opening the box I had to take my silly ass down to Best Buy and exchange it. Vertical section in screen would not register a double tap and hold to move icons or folders. Major pain to return because it was rooted within minutes of opening the box! Oh well!
Second N7 (2013) has much better touch response but not as good I don't think as either one of my 2012 models. The 16GB 2012 N7 was pre-ordered also, then bought the 32GB version when they came out. The second N7 (2013) if you hold it in portrait and squeeze the left or right edges hard enough it will squeak but that might be what I get for falling asleep while reading and waking up on top of the damn thing.
I really do have mixed feelings about the 2013 model. The screen, performance and battery life is absolutely outstanding, much better than the original version in my opinion and the original was nice, but the build quality can be and should be better. I liked the way the original felt in the hand better but the newer version is lighter so there's that.
LG Gpad GPE looks to have a screen that doesn't come close to the brightness level of the new N7 and over $100 more. Otherwise...
All that said, I would recommend the new version with the stipulation that you make sure the touch response is right and the case doesn't squeak too much along the edges. Don't hesitate to return or exchange it. As long as all that is good go for it.

If you haven't ordered yet staples is still selling them for $50 off, I saw the 32GB for $229 yesterday. If you have any problems it would also be easier to exchange vs ordering online.

I think nowadays most stores will let you buy online and do an exchange or return in a physical store. I'm positive Best Buy does. Also, most everybody has free shipping and possibly no sales tax, Except of course for Google.

With all the screen issues, I'm very hesitant to buy a Nexus 7. Actually, I'd buy two; one for my wife and one for me. But, there seems to be no fix in sight for the all the screen issues. I'd rather have an 8 inch screen than a 7 inch screen, but I have no idea whether Google will produce a Nexus 8 in the next six months or so. And, Dell has their Venue 8 available for sale. It's screen resolution may not be as good as the Nexus, and it uses a dual core instead of a quad-core CPU. But, for web surfing, email, watching videos, it seems to do pretty well.
Wondering what forum members thoughts are. Will probably wait a little while and see if there are any negative reports on the Dell in the next few weeks. (All existing buyer reviews are pretty positive.)

Why do you need 8 inch? You should either buy 7 inch or 10+inch if you ask me, anything more than 7 inch is NOT portable, if you want a multimedia device to use at home don't buy 7 inch tablet. I don't have any screen issues, i think you should give more thought on what you need.

I have no idea why so many people think Google is going to make a nexus 8 when there is a nexus 7. They're not going to make a tablet from 5 to 10 just to satisfy every person who wants an obscure sized tablet. If Google ever makes 3rd nexus tablet choice it'll be larger than the 10 not in between 7 and 10.

It's a hit or miss. Why not go to your most trusted retailer and test a couple out then pick the best screen you can find.
I don't have any issues with my unit.

Not sure what "screen issues" OP is referring to. Been using mine everyday for little over a week with no probs.

Bought one at Sams' Club last night and the screen has no issues.

I can only guess that you don't know the physical size of the 8 inch is the same as the 7 inch, there's less screen border on the front.

I guess people think there will be Nexus 8 because of the pic released by Google a few months ago. It was quickly photoshop'd to a Nexus 7 after the roar on the net. Since Google actually took a picture of someone using what appeared to be a Nexus 8, a number of people, including me, expected Google to release a Nexus 8 sometime.

There's a nine page thread entitled Potential Touch Screen Fix. This forum is full of Nexus 7 2nd gen touch screen problems. It looks a hardware grounding issue. Some people are on their fourth and fifth units and still having the problems.
I'm glad your's has worked well for one week and another poster's has worked well for one day, but this seems to be a hit and miss issue. Plus, many people notice the problem after having had the unit a while.

That seems to be the only real option. At least buying locally means you won't have to mail the unit back if its defective. You only have to return it to the store.
Unless, you want the additional geography of an 8 inch screen. I guess waiting seems to be the best bet.

Gotcha, I guess I will just cross my fingers and hope that I don't experience any of the same issues. I will go ahead and look that thread up though, to at least familiarize myself with them in case they do arise. Thanks!

I have had 2 with screen issues. The first one was extremely bad. 3 spots that didn't register touches practically at all. And the second one had touch issues and rebooting when the tablet was in a case. I was very disappointed. I am going to get a hp slate 7 extreme that runs the tegra 4. I play games often and the tegra 4 beats the snapdragon in gaming. The 1 gig of ram is still fine for the hp since kitkat is going to be running on it. The screen resolution is lower than the 7 v2 but it's still better than 720hd. The 7 v2 was my first choice but I feel that I gave Nexus 2 chances with their product and they failed.

Certainly don't wish anyone difficulties with their 7. In fact, the more positive current sales turn out to be, the more likely Asus has fixed these issues during manufacturing.
My wife and I have had a pair of Nexus 4 phones for over a year, and both are performing flawlessly. I guess we're looking for the same kind of reliability with a 7-8 inch tablet.
I'd love for Google to come out with a Nexus 8, like in the "old" screen shot. And, seeing what happens in the next few weeks seems like the safe bet.
Neither of us is a gamer, so we don't need the speed gamers require.

The new Nexus 7 is my favorite device ever, and I use it hours a day even after months of having it. I'm actually glad I didn't get the LTE version because then it would never leave my side (tempting though, since TMobile offers free data for tablets).
From what I've seen on my Dell Venue 11, Windows 8 is nowhere near as easy to use or as useful as Android. It actually pisses me off sometimes, for well-known issues like battery drain and control panel. PM me if you want more thoughts on the Dell Venue.

Is these issue's still happening on the Nexii 7 2013? I want to buy one myself.

I got a Nexus 7 (2013) for Christmas, it was purchased from Best Buy. I already have an HTC One, and I have to say -- the Nexus 7 keeps up fine, despite inferior specs. And my HTC One feels so very small now. It only beats the Nexus 7 in sound. I was reluctant to open up my Nexus 7, I gave a lot of thought to returning it for the credit, but I'm glad I kept it now. Go get a Nexus 7!

And today's current rumor, from various component suppliers, is the Nexus 8 will be introduced this summer. (Background comments are that Google is disappointed in the sales of the current Nexus 7.)
Currently, the choices are Nexus 7 (2013) at $269 for 32 gb; LG G Pad 8.3 at $299 (street price) for 16gb but w/SDHC; or Dell Venue 8 at $179/$209 for 16/32 gb but w/SDHC. The Dell has less dense screen, but equal to the rest of the competition, and twin core CPU which is more than capable for videos.
I don't know how to "convert" std G Pad to Google Edition w/less bloatware and quicker OTA updates. If the OTA updates along from LG, and LG doesn't modify them, then the question becomes how much of delay in getting them from LG rather than from Google.
If either LG or Dell comes up with sweet deal, that might be the way to go. I'll have to keep my eyes open.

Is buying the Nexus 7 (2013) still worthy?

Good evening.
I was wondering if I should get the Nexus 7 (2013) or wait for the next Google Tablet may it be a nexus or silver or L or whatever it is called.
As I understood instead of ASUS google chose HTC for its next device.
The thing is, I was curious and wanted to wait for it..
But - I found the nexus 7 (2013) 16GB for 195$.
Any suggestions ?
btw, I read some mixed review - does it have an external SD option or not ?

Definitely buy the current tablet its great and it will get the L update soon. 1.5 GHz doesn't seem like a lot compared to others but trust me, great tablet easy to root. Tons of support and big community. Buy the current nexus 7.

Question though... Can you swap its battery or put in an SD card ?
Since its not water proof I assume you could, but I can't seem to find anything to support that...
some sites say it has SD and in some others when I look at the specs. it doesn't mention the SD option...
I guess NEXUS 7 (2013) only have 1 version right ? (I live in Japan so we tend to get "special" versions)

No on both questions. There are two versions of the Nexus 7 (2013): WiFi only and LTE. Although, I don't know what availability the LTE version is outside the US.

You would want 32gb if storage is an issue, I got mine 3 months back and its worth it but I'm wondering if lte is better since I could just use it as a phone instead. Having phone and tablet is a luxury to me especially with 4+ inch screens.
I use a server at home for data storage.
The tablet is thin and it fits in my pockets comfortably.
Its not too late, the screen is superior than average and the performance is quick

After returning my Nexus 7 twice to Asus and finally getting a good working unit, I've found that my Note 3 kills this tablet. Washed out colors, slower performance, and gets hot quick. Nexus 7 is a good device for you first time tablet owners and those that don't have a larger smartphone. Good luck if you decide to buy, there will always be good dev support for this device.

You should buy it if you really need it. I guess 195$ for Wifi only, right?
I own one, it is good device and lot of support. But I have an Android phone and a big laptop, so that sometime I only use my n7 for chatting when I work.
7inch is good. But if I were you, I would wait the new 8inch

They have certified refurbished off of Ebay right now for only $159 which is what I picked up for a 32gb Wifi. Figured its cheap enough that even if I only use it for a bit it should be worth it and will be a big replacement for my Asus T700

It is a fantastic device. I am in love with mine even after owning a Galaxy Tab S. Definitely a good buy at that price. I would always buy new... Never returned but that is personal preference.

I got the LTE and my daughters have the WiFi 2012. Both great and I do a lot of gaming in multiplayer. But the new nexus looks like it has been really improved and word is end of summer it may come out. If it were me I'd probably wait unless I really needed one right away.
