i'm not thinking about getting a new phone (yet), but what are you guys up to?
I may wait for coming HTC models for late this year or 2012, beats audio powered and sure Ice cream sandwich in da house.
Though Samsung to be considered.
Had my Z for almost one year. Rocks with 2.3!!

I've only had my z for a couple months so not looking too soon (I generally keep a phone for 6-9 months) but when I do swap out I'll probably go for another qwerty handset. Milestone 3 maybe. Unless htc come up trumps with an update to this lovely piece of kit.

My self-imposed goal is to keep on the Desire Z for at least a year, and I got it in December 2010. So I'm going to try to wait it out until end of the year, then see what HTC is offering (or has coming soon) at that time. If I had to get a phone now (if mine broke), I'd look at the Sensation (available from Canada Bell, compatible with AT&T 3G bands) or the Holiday, which is supposed to be out on AT&T soon (this month or next).
Although I'm a bit torn on the hardware keyboard issue lately. This is my 3rd smartphone, all of which have been HTC with a hardware keyboard. But lately I find myself using Swype quite a bit nowadays, and even thinking of going without a hardware keyboard for my next phone. But sometimes, for longer messages I still go back to the hardware keyboard.
i would probably go for the htc sensation XE or sensation once the prices drop on ebay
Hoping for the next nexus or the NEXT next nexus. But I definitely need a FFC and NFC....

Really going to hold out as long as I can. All of these recent phones coming out look nice, but I'm really still happy with the G2. Its fast and very usable, even with (admittedly) lacking specs. Keeping the phone rooted running a custom ROM breathes new life into this device for sure.
I've had the G2 since January, and I'm going to stick with it for several more months. I'm waiting to see the next 'Nexus' device from Google to see if its really worth it. If ICS is as game changing and innovative as I hope, It'll be hard to resist for sure. I think that'll be the deciding factor for me now.
I'm really not hung up on specs. I get everything done just fine on 512mb RAM and 800mhz processor right now, so I'm not exactly drooling for 1gb RAM and dual core just yet (use cases vary obviously). If the interface and new software is great, and I can really get more done with it, I'm sure I'll end up pulling the trigger on a new device like that.
One thing not keeping me on the G2 is the keyboard. Its nice when I need to bang out some long emails or texts, but the extra heft and thickness just isn't worth it to me. It isn't a big negative though. As far as horizontal sliders go the G2 is quite thin.

I've been disappointed with the Nexus series every since Google moved from HTC to Samsung. Samsung has decent hardware (good displays) but casings seem cheap and plastic compared to most HTC phones. And with Google's purchase of Motorola's mobile division, I have a feeling we may see future Nexus versions coming straight from Google, and made by "former" Motorola folks. And personally, I've been consistently underwhelmed by just about every Motorola smartphone, and they are a step below Samsung.
Been hearing the next 'Nexus' device will be named 'Nexus Prime' and manufactured by Samsung as well. I have hopes that Google will go back to HTC because Sammy's build quality is quite lacking (plastic vs aluminium housing).
I will be holding out for the next 'G' or Desire device from HTC for as long as I can. If I had to choose one now, it would be the Sensation or Holiday. I can say for sure that the manufacturer will be HTC though.
ive heard rumour of rogers canada getting the samsung S2 slide this fall...itll be my replacement. with huge hands and fingers i will not type on a screen lol. hw kb is a must for this cat.

Ideally that's what I want, because I've been happy with the "G" series, but I haven't seen any indication that they'll be a third G phone. Hopefully that's the case. If not, then a good HTC phone with a slide out keyboard will do. I find myself using it less and less, but I still would like to have it for the sake of versatility.
It's amazing how much having a phone being rooted extends the life of the phone. I would like to see what the next Google Phone is. I see a lot of 4.5 - 4.7 inch screens coming out. I think i'll ditch the full qwerty for a thinner phone with a larger screen. Hopefully Googarola can make me happy with a Nexus/G3 with a 4.8 inch screen, a 1.5 GHz dual core proc, a 720p front facing camera, and of course ICS.
I recently rooted my Desire Z and am not really looking for a replacement anytime soon.
If I were to replace it now a device like the myTouch 4G Slide (HTC Doubleshot) would suit me perfectly. The only thing I'm really missing is a front camera but I'm definitely happy with my Desire Z for now. Ideally, the HTC Doubleshot would come out in Europe as well as I want a qwerty keyboard, front camera and a screen that's not too big.
I'm currently running Virtuous Doubleshot ROM and really like it.

Hm... there is no replace for Desire Z right now in the market, and that shame.
I think, for me, I will wait tull HTC release some new slider for europe, becouse I quite integrate with HTC Sense, and it is quite nice for me. I dont think how to back to clean android after HTC Sense.
My primary need is phisical qwerty keyboard and medium screen mot less then 3.5" and not bigger then 4".
So far , nothing in mind.
What has a qwerty, track pad, speed, sd, HD cam, 480x800 and up screen res, FM, etc and got a high rating in costumers satisfaction?
Nothing yet. What I'm maybe looking for : 2 core, super amoled, better battery life.

Interesting graphic/article, thanks for posting it. It pretty much mirrors my personal opinion on the build quality and design of the major smartphone manufacturers (HTC>Samsung>Moto>LG). Of course, with the exception of Apple being at the top. As I think most on here would agree, I just don't like Apple's closed ecosystem.

Alleged images of the HTC Edge, rumored to be the world's first quad-core smartphone when it launches in early 2012, have surfaced via Pocket Now.
As far as smartphones go, this one is at the top of the food chain. It packs a quad-core, 1.5-GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU, 4.7-inch display with 720p resolution, an 8-megapixel camera with F/2.2 lens, 1GB of RAM, Beats Audio headphones, and the HTC Sense interface. In other words, it's twice as powerful as the HTC Rezound launched last week, which hits Verizon on November 14 for $300.
Strangely, 4G LTE support was not mentioned; instead the Edge is supposed to support 21Mbps HSPA+ (AT&T's old 4G technology).
In February, Nvidia announced Kal-El, the first quad-core mobile processor, and it first hit the market in October via the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. For more, my colleague Michael Miller "dissected" Kal-El and its "secret fifth core."
Last week, Verizon Wireless and HTC announced the HTC Rezound, HTC's first Beats Audio-paired smartphone. It's a 4G LTE device featuring a 4.3-inch 720p HD display, 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and the latest version of HTC Sense. It also sports an 8-megapixel camera and records video in 1080p. For more, see PCMag's Hands On With the HTC Rezound and slideshow below.

Dang. All that stood out to me was 4.7-inch display. That is huge!
I might wait for this phone. I love my incredible still and putting a different ROM on it every week makes it feel like a new phone. Might hold out for this phone if it is on Verizon's network.
It didn't look like a verizon phone to me, plus I'd rather have a S4 processor than Tegra3
If it said HSPA+ then it's not coming to Verizon.

I think it'll have a cdma counterpart that comes to VZW. Hopefully 4G LTE will be included.

4.3 is too big
4.7 is ridiculous. I hope people don't buy these phones so manufactures can start making them portable again.
They say Q1 or Q2, but they're known to have delays on big phones like this so it may be Q3 or Q4, or later. I wouldn't wait for this one if I was you.
Doesn't matter how many cores it has. HTC will find new and exciting ways to make the superphone choppy and laggy through bloat and inefficient software design.
I guess there is a difference if you plan on putting AOSP on it though.

Huh, weird. Because Sense 3.5 runs perfectly fine on my phone, as good as AOSP, with obviously a few exceptions because of how old this Incredible hardware is, and since there's still a few little bugs in the rom.
Anyways, all these ICS phones are gonna be awesome, and it's awesome that this one still has capacitive buttons, so far. Battery life on it should be awesome though, except the rumor that it's 4.7 inches, that's basically close to the really small tablet area. But if it truly does come with 720p resolution, hopefully the rom from it will get ported to the Rezound

The only way I've gotten sense 3.5 to work well on my phone is with the "2D hack" that the rcmix team figured out to make the sense widgets not have 30 different objects to render at once (calendar comes to mind). Even then, there's the dreaded pull down notification lag which is even present on the Amaze 4G, but amplified on our older hardware. Not to mention that despite all this it STILL takes 3-4 seconds to launch common apps like DIALER as opposed to the nearly instantaneous AOSP.
They have good UI designers but terrible programmers.

Quad-core. They should save battery, though nobody's entirely sure with phones. The first quad core tablet, the Asus Transformer Prime that's coming out, has a battery life of 12 hours while using it...plus I think like 16 or 18 with the keyboard dock. I'm not sure what size battery it has, but that's nice. And I'm pretty sure it has to do with the quad core
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible using XDA App
First, I doubt that's a phone that's coming in 2012... ICS does NOT support capacitive buttons and any Android phone that releases in 2012 without ICS is going to languish.
Second, it's certainly not coming to Verizon with HSPA+. There are plenty of great phones that come out on other carriers that never make it to Verizon.
A note about the Tegra 3... The reason it's going to have such amazing battery life is because there is actually a fifth core, called a companion core, that it switches to when the phone isn't doing anything. Cool technology...
As an aside, when is a screen too big?
My quad core dell xps has terrible battery, but i have it set to max performance with the 2 gig nvidia card in it. Only lasts 1.5 hours.

Yeah, ICS most definitely DOES support capacitive buttons, because otherwise, that'd be a total fail in Android by doing that, considering all the phones that are potentially getting upgraded. It's just common sense. And yep, I've read plenty about the companion core. Finally, a screen is too big to me when I can't comfortably hold, and operate it at the same time with one hand, a nearly 5 inch screen is not comfortable. Might as well get a small tablet if you want that kind of screen size. That on a cell phone is ridiculous. 4.3 is the highest I'll go.
So guys, simple as that. I'm upgrading soon. I am wondering if any of you would have chosen a different phone, now that you have owned the Nitro HD for quite some time. If so, what phone? I'm on AT&T btw. Some people say the A2 is nice. I'm stuck deciding. Also, does anyone know when AT&T will be releasing more phones?? Tegra 3 maybe? Also, if any AT&T insiders are about, any recollection as to when they will be dropping prices again? Thanks for all input everyone!

Something to keep in mind about the One X is that there will be 2 different versions of it. Europe gets the Tegra 3 quad core but no LTE. In the US, the AT&T One X will have LTE but will be using a Qualcomm S4 dual core instead.

So if I am wanting to get the HTC one X on my upgrade when the time comes, i'm still looking @ a dual-core phone? LAME! AT&T always finds some way to take the fun out of things! I don't need LTE I need QUAD CORE PROCESSING POWER WITH A 12 CORE GPU :O

Looks like I might go with the Nitro after all... virturally same specs... just an ugly bulky phone. (In some peoples' opinion.)
Does AT&T usually drop prices on que with new phone releases? I looked online for the BB deal for $50 w a bluetooth headset and just got the $99.99 to show... maybe it has to be in store for the promo.
Would be nice if an AT&T rogue dropped by with some pretty enlightening information regarding release dates and prices here's to wishful thinking!

Thanks for the offer though, Scott. Why do you prefer the Iphone? Do you realize Apple manufactures these things to brick if they know you jailbroke them? Let alone shattered glass on front and back if you drop it on anything other than a pillow. :/
I prefer android because they have an open developer community, as well as more durable phones for the most part, if you're going to chunk your phone b/c ur mate pissed you off and you don't have a case on it, you are on your own there. For most of us though, our phones will only suffer a drop from pocket or head height. Aprox 6 ft drop. With cm9 this phone is prolly better than any phone at the market right now, even at&t's htc one x wont be much better than the nitro..
Only downside is the battery, i'm carrying 2 extra batterys to survive 24hrs away from the power plug, but thats because i use it a lot, when its idling it doesnt use that much(like 8/10% on 8hours sleep)

The international tegra3 OneX didn't win anything. Unfortunately, It's a terrible chip set with low performance, low battery life, causes "overheat" battery status frequently, runs on an old Linux kernel, and slows to a crawl when you fill up the storage.
Comparing the American hoxl with the American sgs3: they have the same hardware except the sgs3 has double the ram, which means that it doesn't have the multitasking problems of the hoxl.
However, if you ignore the poor multitasking, the software on the HTC side is imo better than touchwiz when it comes to look and feel - which was one of engadgets reasons for preferring it. They praised the inclusion of a multitasking button instead of a menu button which is funny because all of the custom roms have remapped the buttons!, so they must really enjoy seeing the 3 dot button wasting screen space everwhere
At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Software wise, I'm looking forward to a stable CM10 on my gs3. So for me only hardware matters.
so really what should we do in here?
we need a mod that can really take action
this is getting ridiculous
Plain ridiculous....
If it is so terrible, why google put it into nexus then and not exynos?

OP has got nought better to do than masturbate furiously and cry to him self in the corner lol!!!!
I'm getting sick of people defending and fighting for their brand. where ever we go we can see a Apple vs. Android, Samsung vs. i-phone, HOX vs, SGS3 cat fight. It's just a smart phone for god sake. It's not like your serving your dark master...
I thought the original post smelt more fishy than Margaret Thatcher's secret garden!!!!:silly:
Edit:
I'm bored at work so will continue to fill useless threads like this with senseless bull**** until the mods close it. Freeze dried macaque monkey anyone????

If u think that makers of GTX 680 (Nvidia) can be crushed so easily then u r wrong..
U have a pentile display which has ink marks n black clipping n color banding issues..We HOX owners don't even piss on such displays coz the color of it is also appear grey on it. .
The first thing u look at n keep looking at the whole time is the screen n when its that ****ty then nobody gives a damn..
The S3 is officially the ugliest looking phone ever. N this is supported by Android Police,Engadget etc..
The support of tegra 3 is gonna be way Better coz its on so many devices now including Nexus 7. . N with Microsoft surface also coming out with tegra 3 we might e able to port windows 8 to HOX. .
Nobody gives a damn to exynos. .

I looked at a SGS3 display vs the HOX and whilst the HOX display is sharper, brighter and has better colors, the SGS3 display is pretty good, you hardly notice it's pentile unless you go looking for it. The color banding is not a display issue but a software choice made by Samsung to increase sharpness, it is called mdnie and the SGS2 at least had many different profiles (for different apps/lighting situation), so there never would be banding in the galery

Apparently its not a software issue..in the pentile arrangement the sub pixels are shared between pixels..Supercurio is a developer here n he tried to fix this issue for months on Galaxy Note but couldn't even improve it. Let alone fixing it n ultimately he gave up n the thread was closed. .
N u r comparing it to S2 !!!!!!!!... s2 has an RGB display n is way better than Note n s3 crap. .
N s2 is the best phone from Samsung's stable til now ..

I picked this phone vs the S3 because the blue S3 looked cheap and plasticy but what I didn't realize is that the white looks actually pretty nice. Definitely not as nice as the One X, due to the unibody they can make the back really nice. The removable back leads in a plasticy look. Another thing was, that was 500-600 dollars and the one x was 400-500.
On a side rant, I feel that Samsung and Apple are so popular for their unification. Yes, unification. There is one apple connector and one iOS. Simplicity with OS and unification. You can tell your friend about an awesome app and they can get it too because there is one iPhone 4, yet a bunch of android phones. However, Samsung brings US that unity.
Cool story bro..
I can't see this thread lasting, as comparison threads don't seem to be allowed.
However, my personal reasons were:
1. ICS was a disaster compared to GB on the SGS2, it looked awful, it ran slower, and had force closures. (It actually benchmarked higher, but ran worse)
2. I've always had Samsung for android, and fancied a change.
3. The specs of the HOX were amazing, and to offer these many months before the SGS3, win win.
4. Screen, design, camera and tegra3 were all big plus points for me.
sense was an unknown to me, but was pleased in videos and even more pleased once used.
After seeing and using my mates S3, to say I'm happy is an understatement - the screen alone makes the choice much easier for me to choose.

it was the best move though, imo. i got it before they announced the sgs3, and when they did, i was kind of relieved.
even more after the update showed that the gap between the performance of the two is not that huge, specially
considering how much sexier and with a gorgeous display

Becuase it's made by HTC.
1)I've tried many android phones but my One X and my old Desire had the best build quality, the material both phones are made from is very unlikely to catch scratches my old Desire still looks like new with no case on.
2)I love Sense.
3)Its specs were mind blowing to me.
4)Screen and camera.

Sense
The fact that it has sense which is much better than Kies and the e-book reading on this screen is really very good.
1. Looks - HOX is way nicer looking than the S3. I wanted to llike the S3 but just couldn't because it was so ugly.
2. Sense - Sense UI is way more polished (especially after 4.1 update). TW seems incomplete with a mix of TW and stock that doesn't mix well together.
3. Screen - Truer colors and sharper text.

My previous phone was the SGS2 and my phone before that the Desire and although the SGS2 was a much more powerful phone I missed all the functionality of Sense
I had the Galaxy S3 and sent it back and got the One X.
Didn't like Touchwiz at all. And the Samsung plasticky feel was awful. I thought it was a bit over-rated when I tried it myself but that's just my opinion.
Much prefer the One X.
Only thing I liked better about the S3 was the Unlocked booloader and removable battery.
Comming from an HTC Sensation that I really disliked (after having an HD2....I was so disappointed with the Sensation, seing the GS2), I wanted the GS3 because I had lost my faith in HTC capacity to provide THE most powerful device.
But I had the HOX for free as a gift from a very good friend
....and found the HOX was very good, as good as the GS3, for me both are just at the same level, a real question of personnal taste, having one in each hand, I couldn't decide which is the best.
So actually, nothing made me choose
Hey guys, so I'm upgrading from my old galaxy s3 tomorrow to Verizon's Edge program with my family. I'm a big multimedia user for my smartphone but I equally care very highly about durability, design, and future-proofing (raw performance). Therefore, I'm deciding between the Nexus 6 and the M9. Here's my breakdown of pros and cons:
Motorola Nexus 6 (24.99 on Verizon edge)
+1440p display
+/-phablet (I could see myself enjoying the size for videos)
+stock Google
+more likely will receive os updates earliest
-only somewhat metal construction
-about to be replaced by the next nexus only too soon
HTC One M9 (also 24.99 on Verizon edge)
+brand new
+snapdragon 810 latest cpu and gpu
+best build quality / design (big plus for me)
-eh screen size compared to competition
-1080p screen (will this really bite me in the next few years?)
-apparently a problematic device with regards to quality control?
Now: I'm especially concerned with some of the problems I've read with the m9 with regards to the poor battery performance, breaking of turbo charge with recent updates, the under-saturation of the color gamut which I didn't like seeing on store models, possible overheating which I heard was fixed before launch. Are these issues still plaguing the phone and would you stray away from the device altogether if I could instead choose the nexus 6?
Thanks in advance!
I love it, and when we get 5.1, it will be even better.
Frankly, I'm surprised that as a big-screen loving Sammy user, you don't have the Note on your short list.

I have held more than my fair share of m9 and not one has had a build quality issue let alone a single dead pixel. The latter actually amazed me.

As much as I love HTC (aside from one Motorola and one Samsung I have had HTC phones since the PPC 6700 in 2005) and how much I love Sense, I would say the Nexus 6 or LG4. I'm really wishing my One M8 would have lasted a bit longer so I could have gotten the LG4, even with the plastic chassis. My One M9 has really been a sore subject lately, I haven't been happy with it all. I definitely got one of the terrible battery life version. It seems, I to be great battery life or like mine and absolutely abysmal battery life. Plus the cell signal on mine is pretty sad and likes to drop signal/stay in 1x mode. Coming from the Samsung, it'll feel like a child's toy compared to the M9 though, metal chassis phones feel so much more sturdy.
I was hating on the M9 hard at first, on launch day, went to Verizon, and compared to the M8 the heat was shocking and wasn't happy at all.
I decided to go for it, and I couldn't be more happy.
I loved my M8, and got great battery life on it, and at first my M8 was getting better battery life, but since the update to Android 5.1 it has been such an upgrade for the M9 in terms off heat battery and performance.
As for quality, it's top notch, not a single issue to mention.
The signal on mine is wonderful.
That's my .2 cents.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the best!
I sympathize with you OP. I've been waiting quietly on this board hoping for sunshine to drop and CyanogenMod to support the phone. I don't care for sense or any skin, although I recognize sense is the best of the skins. I nevertheless prefer straight android though and could not see myself running sense for long. I'm getting by easily on my s3 running the latest cm12 nightly. But I really want this m9 and it's driving me crazy!!!

Oh I'm well aware. I'm near state college, so I believe I would be shipping it off to you! It's more a matter of whether CyanogenMod supports this phone. At least for me. If I wanted to have to use the manufacturers take on the OS I'd just get an iPhone. Which at this point is something I'm considering for the very first time. Verizon locking these phones down like this is just an outrage.

respect your opinion.
Can give reasons why, please?
I own the M9, G4, and Nexus 6.
Screen - G4, One M9 comes in a close 2nd (I mean reaaaallly close). I'm a sucker for LCD panels and the display on the nexus to me is its weakness. Whites are yellow and pink on the nexus, but you get deeper blacks. Whites are white on the G4 and M9. The is also the dimmest and has the worst outdoor disability.
Speakers - Nexus is the best to me, way louder. HTC has the better sound quality though. G4 is loud, but I hate the placement.
Battery - Nexus and m9 tie, (about 4 hrs SOT max brightness), the G4 falls short, about 2 hr 30 mins SOT (thats the tradeoff for those extra pixels). G4 does have iphone like standby time though and you can swap batteries ...
Camera - G4 1st, the nexus comes in 5th place and the m9 comes in 100th lol. Front facing - G4 edges the m9, and the nexus comes in dead last.
Root? - m9 u can unlock if you mail to or meet someone with a java card, nexus unlocks out the box, lg g4 is still locked like fort Knox. The nexus obviously has the better development community.
UI - love stock android, but will always have a soft spot for sense. LGs ui is just OK (too quirky)
All have decent reception, but the moto nexus gives me the best.
Overall, I like all three and there is not one I particularly prefer. Love the build, software, display, and battery of the m9 (hate the camera), love the screen, form factor, and camera of the G4 (hate that it's still locked and wish it had a better battery), love the speakers, size, and software of the nexus (wish it had a better display)...
Eh. If I had the choice to go back and the G4 was out already, I wouldve tried it out first. The Nexus looks good too spec wise. Looks cheap though as I have been spoiled with HTC build quality last couple years. I miss my m8 camera though. Tried to take some firework pics and videos this past weekend with my m9, not impressed. I'm on 5.1 as well. First time Samsung (girlfriend's note 4) shat all over my HTC camera. Heat and battery life aren't quite as good, especially out of the box. Custom roms and new firmware have helped with that so it's not such a big deal now. I miss the volume of the m8 as well. Overall, coming from an s3 I think it would be awesome. From an m8, maybe not the best choice. Just my opinion. I'm trying to stick with HTC. I really love their products.

Sorry...not on here much lately due to lack of root.
Anyway, reasons:
Heat/performance/battery life-- we'll put these together as they're all intertwined. Simply put, the phone gets hot doing almost anything which causes it to eat battery, and eventually, throttle.
Camera-- it's virtually impossible to take a good picture with this phone...it's almost always out of focus. Granted, I don't have the hands of a surgeon, but I didn't have these issues on my m8.
Connectivity-- I actually returned my first m9 and got another due to this issue... But the second one had the same issues. Specifically, I'm referring to Bluetooth and miricast issues. It's hard to really button these up and put them in a box because the issues are strange and intermittent: E.g., ppl can't hear me when on BT in my car sometimes, will lose connection randomly to my BT headset while working out (have exchanged headset but the issue persists). My car will suddenly not be able to access my phone's phone book sometimes... And this never happened with my m8, when streaming something to my TV, it is ridiculously buggy, losing connection randomly with no rhyme or reason... Again, I didn't have this issue with my m8.
And finally, the coating that they put on it to make it easier to grip and scratch resistant seems to have the exact opposite effect, scratching ridiculously easily. I accidentally put it in my pocket with some change once and the back has scratches all over it.
I wouldn't get this phone. I have it and especially unrooted I feel like it was a mistake. Horrible camera, back scratches if you look at it wrong (exaggerating), and it gets hot if you are doing anything taxing on the phone. The best way to describe this phone is it's one of those girls that you thought you wanted to date but all the rumors were true and youd regret it. Im switching to the Z4v soon.

With the latest Dev updated, many reports with 5.1 that there are a bunch of improvements, including the camera. That is my only complaint with the HTC One the past several years...camera sucks compared to iPhone. Have to say, my wife/daughter and their iPhone 6 cameras are pretty amazing.
This last update that is coming down if we can get it on the Verizon by the devs with updates...should resolve a lot of issues, like the overheating, other issues...
I've got mine on the way back and ready for Rom updating...haha
