Broken volume button (split in two) - HTC One X

Today I took my phone out of my pocket and noticed a thin line on the volume button. First I thought it was a hair or some kind of dirt but when I looked closer I saw the volume button is split in two

I have absolutely no idea how this happened, i haven't dropped the phone or abused in any other way. The phone is 6 months old now and otherwise in very good condition. The volume button still functions, but I really hate it this has happened.
Anyone else had this problem? I haven't called HTC for warranty yet, but I doubt they will fix this.

You really should check with HTC for the warranty. HTC is pretty nice when it comes to warranty from my previous experience. My previous Sensation XE had some minor plastic cracks that came with the phone and I got a free replacement.
If not try this

Hope it helps

Thanks for the link. I will try to get it replaced under warranty, asked HTC about it on Twitter. I'm waiting for an answer now.

Hi

Mine Too
Hello
This happened to me this week as well! I have a grey one!! If you send it back for repair let me know how you get on. I have unlocked mine at HTC dev, and put custom roms on it.. I could restore to stock and relock, but worried they would deny warranty as it has been unlocked??
James

You can buy the part and replacing it is easy enough. I replaced the entire housing of my grey One X into a White One X. The volume rockers can be found on ebay...
Though if you have got warranty may as well use it

Im not sure if they will replace this through the waranty,
But i'll check these days and let you know.
@nookcoloruser, did you follow some step by step tutorial for replacing the entire phone cover?

I doubt it won't be covered by warranty, after all its a hardware issue, not a software issue. For example, it's not as if rooting your phone would automatically crack your screen. Ask HTC anyways, if all else fails you could always buy a replacement part and repair it yourself.

impretty sure they will repair free of charge, my last phone the dhd had the volume button fail then fall out and that was replaced under warrenty when the machine was a year and a half old

HTC Suck!!!!!!
Just contacted HTC - they will not repair the phone, as they will change the mainboard as a matter of course for any relocked phone - this would be chargeable!!! What a joke....

Fear not, you could always buy replacement parts.

me too!
Same to me! I don't think I ever dropped my HTC One X hard enough to break the volume button in two. Mine is also 6+ months old with a cracked button
Can someone explain how to replace if I buy a replacement part?
THanks
Jo

Same for me. I even had a case on which covers the volume rocker, took it out yesterday and found it to be broken in the exact same place!! The phone is less than 6 months old now, and it really sucks. Gonna contact HTC India and see what they say.

Same issue, cracked volume button. Phone is 14 months old but has 24 month warranty with Vodafone and HTC.
Worst bit is that the screen has stopped working (phone functions fine just screen doesn't work), sent it in and Vodafone wont fix the screen because the cracked volume button invalidates the warranty - it is classed as physical damage. Dont really care too much about the volume button but they use it to invalidate the entire warranty
Could send it to HTC, worried they will do the same and then I will have to pay £25 for the pleasure.
Blaaahhhhh

You just need to take the back cover off and the volume button and the power button drop out so easy to replace. There are vids on YouTube to show you what to do. Use a plastic tool or plectrum to avoid damaging the case.

[Q] Broken Screen! Help?

My G2's screen is broken. I think it may have happened while I was skiing with it in my jacket pocket. I am very confident it's not a moisture issue as the indicator is 100% white and I rice'd it for 48 hours just to be sure. I checked with T-Mobile and HTC, and both have said they will RMA it (limited warranty). However, I want to make sure that they don't say the warranty is void because of physical damage or whatever reason. The phone is in flawless condition other than the screen failure.
Anyone have thoughts? Is one method of RMA preferable to the other?

Bueller...?
your screen is cracked... don't send it in you'll pay like 300+ bucks

That is physical damage my friend...
So what's the best course of action if I don't send it in?
Well if u got insurance it will be cheaper to replace it and if you dont ... you could replace it your self which should be only done if you know what your doing and other than that yea... maybe the others have better suggestion
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I do not have insurance, and I already ordered a warranty replacement from T-Mobile. It's still a few days out. I am just now worried that they might try to charge me $300 or whatever for physical damage. Here is my plan:
I will replace the LCD myself and then send back to them a perfectly fine phone (albeit with a replacement LCD), and order a replacement "void" sticker for the one that will inevitably break when I take apart the phone (I am under the impression there is just one). I have become very skilled at iPhone assemblies, do you think those skills will transition nicely to a Desire Z tear down?
Alternatives I have thought of:
- Do a tear down of the phone and just unplug the LCD ribbon cable.
- Just send it back in its current state and hope for the best.
Would appreciate advice, oh knowledgeable citizens of the Internet.
Ah I see you have knowledge of takeing iPhones apart. I to have some skills with itouch and also my old motorola cliq takeing them apart. Well the only diffrence is with android type phones (most) are a liitle bit harder to open but other than that when u open it you should easily be able to fix or replace the need parts. My only advice is make sure you don't leave any traces of you disassembleing the G2. Wish you best of luck my friend. One more thing don't unplug the LCD screen. When they inspect the device and see that you tempered with it that an automatic void warranty. So when u send it back to the repair center make sure everything looks like the way you got it
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I cracked my LCD last week (yours looks as if you cracked the gorilla glass/digitizer from the looks of your pic) either way, it's roughly the same job, I just finished doing it, it was a pain! - lol
I went ahead and replaced the hinge spring while I was in there, the new spring is awesome, I got the 31lb spring from McMaster-Carr!
I couldn't find what I felt was a genuine HTC screen online, so I just bought a broken G2 with a good screen on ebay for $53
you should fix it and replace the spring - I am glad I did mine myself and saved $400 - took a couple of hours since I had to do the ebay parts phone as well.
PS - if you can't disassemble a laptop completely down as far as it will go (complete disassembly of laptop and also screen) and get it back together and have it work perfectly, then you don't want to try this! - Also, if you are sending the repaired phone to HTC, then you will need to get a hair dryer and carefully remove the VOID sticker.

HTC Repair

My camera stopped working on my desire after 12months and I contacted HTC. Now I can't fault their service in that they picked it up when they said they would the next day and I have it back a week later. Although they failed to inform me it was being sent back to me.
I open it up and straight away I see my bronze fasica is now a slightly glossy black and they metal volume up and down buttons are now plastic. I fail to see why they had to replace these. My fascia was scuffed but then so is the new one! Also they replaced the AMOLED screen with an SLCD one. All this was done without asking me. The phone has the same S/N although different IMEI.
I just wondering if anyone has experienced this and I am likely to be able to get it back to the original colour. Not keen to have to lose my phone for another 7days - my old iphone 3g is unusable with the new iOS. I realise I am stuck with the screen, not sure if that is good or bad to be honest.
If you still think its broke raise a complaint. I had a nightmare with my trackpad repair.

The phone seems to work fine now, probably because they changed everything! But I would have liked to have got the same colour back as I sent off, as the all black and plastic buttons look a bit cheap. I am just a little surprised they needed to change it and you think they might have used a non-scuffed fascia.
I recently got my Desire back from HTC repair, they fitted a new touch panel and also a new bezel (due to a fault not damage). The bezel is the same bronze colour as the old one.
I wonder if legally they can just change the specification of my phone while repairing without telling me. If you took a car in for repair and got it back a different colour, now with a tinted windscreen and it had different scratches than before you would be reasonably annoyed. Not worth as much obviously but still I feel the point remains.
My box cleary says AMOLED screen and what I have now doesn't have one. I guess I am going to have to send it back to get the same colour as I sent them. Just waiting for them to get back to me now.

mines off for repair today. how am I gonna survive 7 days..
getting a new mainboard hopefully to fix the overheat/reboot problem.
i want something to go wrong so I get a free Desire S!
I am less interested in free stuff and just want the amoled htc desire in silver/brown (or whatever that colour is) that I had. I already have had to use my unbearably slow iphone 3g for a week now. And I still haven't heard back from HTC with the promised repair report and them telling me what they can do about it.
As for a photo, I will see what I can do.

I had to use my wifes old Pink Motorola RAZR for a week!
At the end of the day, you paid for the product with the spec you originally had. AMOLED and with whatever finish it had.
As subjective as it may be, the replacement or repair you receive should match the original product, and if you consider a change a downgrade, it is a downgrade.
If you need the phone, look at the SLCD as an upgrade (personally I prefer them, and theoretically, it is a better display). Better colour reproduction etc.
If not, demand a replacement, whether of parts or of the whole phone, that matches that of your old phone.
The reason for the differing IMEI but same serial number is because they replace all the internals, then assign your old serial number.

Image below, fairly obviously not the same phone. You can also see the scratches/chips to the left of the phone.
I just phoned HTC and apparently it takes five working days for them to know why the repair company did this and what they can do. This isn't exactly making me want to get another HTC phone at the moment. Any tips on how to get them to sort things out quickly?

I am digging up this old thread of mine as my phone has now been to the repair centre three times and is still not working properly. HTC will offer me a refurbished phone built by the repair centre, who I have little trust in, but I have to send my back and wait 7-10 days for another to be sent. A rough outline, or rant, can be found here: http://mollehill.blogspot.com/2011/11/htcs-uk-repair-woes.html
Anyone else had such issues? Or am I just being incredibly unlucky. Not sure I could buy HTC again or recommend them to others.
could they not do a change on delivery? They courier your phone and its swapped on your door step. you get your phone and they get your broken one.

Housing Replacement Desire HD

My question is a relatively simple one... I sent away my desire hd to this company
http://www.htcphonerepairs.co.uk/HTC-Desire-HD/Housing-Replacement-Desire-HD.html
... to have the housing replaced, to make it look like new again. It arrived back in the post today, however there were several what looked like screwdriver scoring marks around the flash cover (see pics below) - that as well as the lense was loose and caused the phone to rattle!
Obviously I sent it back to the company under warranty immediately and they agreed to resolve.
My question is this... is it difficult to fit a new housing to the DHD without leaving marks? Also should a replacement housing cause the lense to be loose or was it just bad fitting by the repair company? Has anyone else had their housing replaced mark free?

not sure if it is that easy to do it yourself but hey, someone is selling it on eBay
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ORIGINAL...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item3cc296c7de
2 things...they were not careful putting on that cover...or worse...used the old one again, maybe by mistake. the reason I say that is it looks like pry marks from trying to get it off. not that hard to put on all new case etc. that particular cover is tricky but with care should go on no problem.
I spoke to the company earlier this morning and they were very apologetic... should have the phone back again hopefully tomorrow morning... will update then.

There is plenty of youtube videos that explain how to do it. I don't like their work, if you watch the videos you can see that flash housing can be removed pushing from the inside and not externally with screwdriver.

Good to hear, thanks for that... will see what happens when my phone gets back for the second time.
The plot thickens - received an email from the company earlier this morning, asking me to call them re the work on my phone.
They informed me that most if not all "replacement housings" from the manufacturer, come with some minor blemishes and or marks (this was after a 10 min rant on my behalf about this being bulls*it)
Can anyone confirm this to be the case? They even said that replacement housings for sale on ebay are probably gonna have some minor marks on them already...
This is mostly true at least the part aboot ebay but if they're coming from the manufacturer they should be in new condition.
When I bought one on ebay it was described as having minor marks but it arrived to me in new condition.

This is BS, blemishes from the manufacturer? Are you serious? When you first bought your phone did they have any blemishes? OEM parts from the manufacturer are spotless or they never get used by HTC manufacturing! I'd ask for your money back, buy your own housing from Ebay and do it yourself.
Found this on ebay

Ooops forgot to update this thread! My phone arrived back for the second time, and although much better than the first attempt, the housing still had minor marks both front and back... NEVER using this company again OR recommending them either... they never even apologised the 1st time around, and never got a refund for my duplicated posting costs!
Im a perfectionist when it comes to my phones, and decided to flog it on ebay... have now purchased a brand new one... should be here in a couple of days

HTC One X's part of touch screen not working at all

I brought my HOX about a month ago, no issues at all after updating to 1.28, no built issues zero software issues, it was perfect.
But today morning i installed a game and tried to touch the menu bar(the vertical bar with 3 dots just above capacitive buttons) and it does not work.
Not only in the game but everywhere you try to touch that area nothing happens.
This problem is not only limited to the menu bar, but also till very slightly above it.
The 1.29.7 update for asia just came out, i thught this would fix it but it didnt.
Tried to factory reset but still doesnt works.
Is this a hardware problem? Should i take to htc?
And do you think i will get a replacement or a repair job done?
Also, i have never dropped the phone even once, it was aways in soft silicon case away from any rough use. In fact, it has hardly been used.
Thanks
I would send it right back to HTC for a replacement.
Exchange it. I had a simular problem with mine but it was the top of the screen that stoped working. In the end I had to get a exchange.

I am expireincing the exact same problem, except the non working part of digitizer is just above the middle of the screen. Is flashing a new ROM would fix it? I think i have nothing to loose, since i cannot send my phone to AT&T because i bought it used on ebay and i live in Canada. I guess it could be 50% chances ROM issue, my old Sensation was having a speaker issue, witch was playing very weak, i sent it to HTC and they flashed a new ROM, it got is spaeker fixed.
I too had this problem although it was intermittent. Sent my HOX to be repaired on Thursday, waiting to hear back.

4 years old desire died

Hi all,
My sister tried installing candy crash on her, used to be mine, desire.
The phone crashed, funny isn't it, and all it can do now is charge but will not operate at all, even not to boot loader.
The device is rooted, s off and with partition table of cm.
It had cm 2.3.7 and cwm recovery before crash.
When charging, orange led will lit but when pressing power button to start the device led will turn off and nothing else happen.
The only way to get the charging led to lit again is to remove and reinstall the battery.
Any clue?
Thanks,
Oren

If you can't get to bootloader then it's hard from here. How about fastboot (back + power)
Try the troubleshooting thread stickied to the top of q&a
Likely you'll have to run an RUU, but you'll lose all your data in the process.
Thanks.
I'll try to check if I get ADB to see the device.
Maybe the display is to blame for not working.

Ok, so the check cost only $15, but this is the only good news...
The problem is the mother board and its fix would cost around $200 which is insane for such an old device.
I asked them to and it back and thought I would try doing it alone.
The issue is, I can't find a place on the net for buying such a mother board...
Can someone suggest please?

Really simple. Take out battery, simcard and sdcard, take out the screws then unclip the plastic then ul see the motherboard then unclip the flex cables and take out the motherboard. Ul be surprised how easy it is. Theres good videos on youtube anyway if u need bit of help.

Try to check if the 3 cable in blue circles are COMPLETELY plugged.
I once forgot to plug back one of them and my screen was dead too.
They sometimes seems to be plugged but actually not.
And, make sure your "new" motherboard is really also working.

I rechecked that yesterday, but will reconfirm later today.
