Randomly today my wifi won't connect to my router. It's not my router that's the problem as I can connect other devices fine. The phone just doesn't see the router. I've tried two routers and it just doesn't show either in range. The only way I can get it to connect is if I stand right next to the router I get a connection but no signal bars and it doesn't let me browse the Web or anything.
I read the wifi signal fault thread and I tried to squeeze the handset and boom I got some more bars of signal!! I never had this problem before. My phone is unlocked so I'm screwed...

Unlocking didn't cause the problem, so according to htcs warranty you're still covered. This problem is known by htc as I'm sure you know
If you are from UK, the law is on your side anyways so you don't need to worry.
You can either repair yourself, but I'd recommend getting it done properly
If htc give you problems about repairing it free of charge under the warranty, let us know

Seriously dude, don't bother wasting your time sending it to HTC getting it fixed. You will lose your phone for a long time and have a nightmare because of the unlocked bootloader.
Either get it repaired from where you bought it, or fix it yourself. It honestly is very easy to fix and takes about 10 minutes.

I do understand, but if op is from uk then all is good, htc can try and say no, but all it takes is them to realise you're going to take it to small claims court and win, and they'll back down without a doubt
They wouldn't let it go as far as court

Thanks guys. It's gone from bad to worse. My mobile data has stopped working fully. It connects intermittently and I have to squeeze to get signal. I'm emailing htc today

If you're in the UK try sending it to HTC I had the WiFi issue and they fixed it and sent it back within four days.

I honestly read the title as 'My wife has stopped working'!
Get in touch with HTC and see what they advise.

Has anyone ever heard of a phone basically going crazy? Ive been on mexperia for probably close to a year now and loved it. Never had a single issue with it. This last week my phone started acting really funny and becoming really un responsive. In a way it has had a mind of its own.. For example, i open the phone app and it starts scrolling through contacts chosing them at random and dialing in some cases. Sometimes if i try to manually dial a number it will just start dialing random numbers on its own. Same goes for messaging and just about all other apps. My phone just does what it wants to and i cant stop it. My home and back buttons stop working and my sreens scroll on their own.
Today i decided to switch roms to mexdroid atomic and its doing the same thing. I did a nandroid backup, I wiped data/reset, wiped dalvik and battery stats like im supposedd to and its still the same. It took me 20 mins to get through the setup because i couldnt type in my gmail account name with out it typing a bunch of random letters.. So, i guess its not the rom and must be my device.
Side note.. I take very good care of my phone and it has never seen a drop of water so its not physical damage.
Also, i notcied that when i lock the phone...wait a few seconds... and then unlock it, it will function normally for the next 10-15 seconds. It gets annoying because it takes me a few minutes to write a text or make a phone call. I have to type a few words, lock it, unlock it, type a few more words etc..
Sorry this is kinda long but im just hoping someone has experienced something like this or may have heard of this happening before and can help.
Yea i have the same problem still suffering from it i think its the digitizar that needs to b replaced.

I hear ya bud! Just got off the phone with tmobile a few hours ago and I'm getting a mytouch 4g slide tomorrow!
My phone started acting real weird about 5 days ago. When charging at first, it would say it was charging, then when unplugged drop any and all charge crazy fast. Then there were times when it said it was charging, and it would sit all night on the charger and be 65 percent in the morning. Then there are times it doesn't even want to charge at all, or you have to hold it or place it just the right way to get it to charge. Tried my wifes battary from her g2 and the same thing was going on. Put my battary in her phone and it worked in her phone like it was new! I think its something with the connector on the inside, but this is my second g2, the first had screen issues.
Tmobile offered me another g2 for $5, or an Mytouch 4g Slide for the same. Hate to part ways with the phone but it's time to try something new.

I guess im going to have to send it in for another one. I just hope tmo doesnt freak because its rooted. My phone is spazzing so much i doth think i will be able to get it back to stock..
This is my second to send it. The first one was rooted and s-off. Don't worry, won't be a problem. As long as physically the phone is in good condition and no water void.

Ok guys, here's a strange one for you. I have no problem connecting my phone via wifi to a router, it stays connected and doesn't lose signal strength like many people have been having problems with. However, when I turn the wifi hotspot feature on, on my One X, the other device can connect to it and use it no problem but the issue I have is that the phone keeps randomly turning the wifi hotspot completely off and I have to keep turning it back on again, this keeps randomly happening, bit of a nuisance when you're using it to connect your Xbox 360 to Xbox Live lol. Could anyone help me out with this please? Thanks for any info guys.

But you probably tried that?

I know this thread is a little old but I've experienced this problem too.
My first question would be is there a case on your phone? If so, what type is it? What brand? Is it thick? Tight?
I own the nilkin case the white thick one and it's also a little tight.
When I noticed that my bluetooth headset got crappy connection after the case I removed it but i found that my phone has one of those so called antenna defects (if you obstruct the top part of the phone with your hand either from the front or the back the connection would fail. At first I had the phone sent to the store. They claim they fixed the firmware for the issue. Sure enough the bluetooth and the antenna seemed fixed but the hotspot still kept acting up.
Finally, I removed the case and to my surprise the hotspot stopped getting deactivated by itself. This model is known for its poor contact with its antennas (like the asus transformer, i've been told) but affects a limited number of owners.
Let me know if this simple fix worked for you guys.
Hey guys,
I've had this wifi antenna issue since long as my phone is from the first batch.
Been to HTC workshop but got a really stupid answer for my wifi antenna issue "he said we are coming up with a software upgrade and that night just fix your antenna issue" not arguing with him I just left and want to know if anyone of you guys have sent your fone to workshop a d what was the result repairing or replacing....
Hope to get a feedback from some Indians who are using HTC one x with wifi antenna issue.

and you should have read what the wifi fault is all about. wifi gets BETTER when you push the spot on the back. so its a hardware fault and no user fault.
Sorry buddy if u feel it's crowded but I really see the need to create a new thread.... Thanks for your awesome reply I am sure your answer is creating a confusion I clearly asked has one sent the fone to workshop and did not ask or an option on how to hold the phone and ignore a factory fault in the device.... So good luck holding your device and not pressing and be happy with your hox

Don't live in India, but have a HOX intended to be sold there. WiFi fluctuates at times, but the three times I've tried the squeeze test my signal actually dropped (good thing). Just give HTC a ring rather than going into the store

Since there is a Indian owners thread, it would have made sense posting there.
As for your issue, its reverse death grip like N3m3515 mentioned. If your wifi improves on squeezing the region between volume and camera, you have the issue.
And for HTC Service center in India, just put a sofware like wifi analyzer on your phone to prove you're facing the reverse death grip and argue with them about it being a hardware issue and not software issue. I haven't dealt with them, I myself am facing this issue but my warranty is in the UAE and trying to get it fixed here(India) is chargeable by $35(cost of sending it to an international htc service center -_-)
So I have to wait till I go back to the UAE and hope they don't catch my phone having been unlocked by HTC Dev.
Hello, I am from india and looking for buying a new phone. Can you please tell me what are the problems and disadvantages of HTC ONE X.

I had the WiFi issue and I got the same reply when I called HTC support. Subsequently, I went to the service center and explained the issue in detail. I was issued a DOA immediately. If this does not help, you can write to [email protected] and [email protected] explaining your problem and demanding that your phone be fixed or replaced. Also, make sure you are actually facing the problem.. a lot of people (like LakshayX) don't understand the issue and few others are simply paranoid. The only way you can get your phone fixed is to keep following customer support and escalating the issue till you get a satisfactory reply. Hope that helps.
So I'm liking my One X, but the Wi-Fi strength is weak. On my iPhone i could get signal all over my room, and i get none on the one x and it's really not that far from my router.
Any help?
Send it for repair. It's known hardware fault(the pins that make contact with the antena are bended so they don't put pressure on it->weak signal). I hope my answer help you+search for the thread in this forum section about the issue.
It's not one of the older ones with the Wi-Fi fault though. Sending it back to repair won't do anything.
Is there no firmware/software fix?

Yeah a firmware will fix it. Dubbed 2.Keep.56.Dreaming
The pinch thing does nothing to it so it's not hardware.
Mine is the same. Been for repair. No problem. Signal bars say otherwise. And battery agrees.

Not sure if I'm just mis reading your post but do you mean it still isn't working?
Wouldn't surprise me, they didn't repair mine two times. They just reflashed the software lol
Send em in again, same process, just tell htc that they really need to sort out their service centers or start doing repairs themselves, and that your hox still having problems
Even if the pinch fix doesn't work, it could be that your antenna pins are bent, but the polycarbonate bits they added to make it stronger, are now stopping the pinch fix working
What I mean, is that they did half the repair, it's supposed to be a replacement main board, so the pins are new and not deformed, and then also the polycarbonate bits so it doesn't re occur.
Sending it for repair again is the best option

That doesn't mean it isn't hardware. My above post explains the fix. In your case I suspect that even if you don't have an older model, the pins could have still been bent on assembly in the factory. So basically you already have the polycarbonate spacers, but also 'pre' bent pins, so bad wifi signal but the pinch test doesn't work, because the spacers are there.
Send it for repair hope this helps.

Really don't want to send it for repair, that's going to take absolutely ages. I'd rather just get a different phone if there isn't a software fix.

Depending how long you've had it, you might still be within a replacement period with your retailer.
Hardware can't be fixed by software :-\
Just my opinion, htc screwed up big time with the qc on this phone, they rushed it. However, when it works it is a truly brilliant phone. Wifi is also really good when it works, compare your situation (which I was in, crap signal even when next to router) to now being able to connect when I'm about 200 metres from my house. I've never seen such a small device have such a great wifi signal.
It's worth the wait

Think I'm just going to return it and get another phone. Probably Galaxy S3.
My WiFi signal is also weaker than on other phones, like my old HTC Desire. It's a bit annoying to be honest, but that's the only problem I have with my phone (got it in april). It's not the WiFi bug, sadly.

Hello all,
Oh what fun I have had with this phone since I have had it. It now looks like I have this "Squeeze problem". I have verified against another one x and the BT range is literally 200% / 300% better than mine (running RC4 cyanogen).
I have suffered from horrific WIFI and BT since I got the phone, my nokia e5 has been my daily driver as it lets me use my sbh 20 headset without holding the phone next to my headset.
I have called HTC and they tell me they will take the phone but might charge me due to the fact that I unlocked my bootloader (which was done to improve my wifi and battery drain - hohum)
This was the last straw. After seeing that the new HTC one has already been S-Offed - and we still have nothing. I am really wondering why I bought this device.
But alas - I still want to use it to watch movies and surf at work - so I want to get the antenna sorted - but after watching the video I am not really thinking I want to do the procedure my self.
I CERTAINLY do not want to pay HTC money to repair their bad handy work.
Is there anyone on here that lives in London that would be willing to do the repair for me?
Of course I will pay. I cant even sell it like this as it just sucks to use it. Wifi drops every min etc.
Thanks all!
Lol I don't think anyone would want to be responsible for breaking your phone.
But really, just take your time while opening it gently, you might notice that the back is completely glued in (like mine). Just shove a guitar pick inside to scrap it all slowly off. I was extremely scared as well when I first opened it, but it becomes a piece of cake afterwards.

My phone has an unlocked bootloader and I sent it back to HTC UK with the exact wifi problem. They repaired it without a problem. The same for my mate who also sent his back with a custom rom still on it. Unless they can prove that unlocking the bootloader caused the fault they have to accept the warranty.
The bottom line is the wifi issue is a known hardware design fault that cannot be affected by unlocking and flashing roms.
