Well guys its happened. Its burned in and its really noticeable during videos and what not. Is there a way I can help it or do I have to get a replacement cause it makes me go crazy when I'm watching a video.

These 'burn ins' are reported often for the GNEX (or other AMOLED devices). I can see them myself on my 10 months old GNEX, not very clear though (maybe I just don't care enough). There are a few apps on the play store that supposedly revive the off-color sections. However, because of the fact the navbar and status bar on the same location >90% of the time, the burn ins will soon return. I'm not sure if you can claim these 'burn ins' under warranty, but even if you could, it's only a matter of time before named sections of the screen will burn in again on your fresh GNEX.
Yea that's what I have read when doing some research. And they probably wouldn't put it under warranty so I guess I should just get used to it.
Samsung has replaced my Gnex screen due to a burn in issue at the nav bar. I only had to send it in , not a question asked. I even offered to email them a photo showing the issue and they said it is not needed.

I just picked up a nexus second hand with screen burn, rang Samsung and they just said to send it in for replacement screen. They may of course send it back unfixed when I do, but I explained clearly what the problem was to their rep and they seemed to think it was covered by warranty.
Frankly it would be hard to see why it wouldn't be covered by warranty. They might assert that its just a matter of wear and tear, but I would say that if you follow the comprehensive instructions that come with it and a component stops working as expected within a year that its a question it should be covered by warranty.
(Bear in mind that the instructions are as specific as telling you not to suck the battery, paint the screen or microwave your device, but say nothing of how long to leave the screen on for.)
Of course if they say no it can be hard to actually assert your rights. But for most phone manufacturers its just easier to fix the thing.

This might even help reverse some burn in.
I got burn-in after just three months of pretty heavy usage. I knew it would happen, but it's still disappointing.
I'm getting really leery of buying AMOLED again, to be perfectly honest - as this also happened on my N1.
Wouldn't a transparent Nav bar and status bar prolong the life of the screen?

Another way to remove the nav is add this line to build.prop qemu.hw.mainkeys=1

Lolwut?! They mention it's known to happen and say it's not covered? Let them deny someone. I'd take them to court. You can't mention something as a known or expected hardware failure and not cover it, rofl.

Depends on how you look at it. It's not exactly a hardware 'failure' since the screen is still working at a level that does not impede with usage of the phone. It's just annoying (depending on who you ask). Compare it with a dead pixel on your brand new TFT computer screen. In some countries, this is not covered by warranty.
I'm not convinced that if someone in the Netherlands would take it to court, they'd win.
Now I'm scared my phone will soon before crap lol

Don't exactly know what this is or how it happened. This alteration is in a perfect square in the middle of my rectangle. Also, there are a lot of small "dots" visible. The screen shows through it perfectly, so I know there is nothing wrong with the actual screen or LCD. Maybe the digitizer? The phone functions perfectly, touchscreen and all. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?
If this puppy's still under warranty I'd be hitting that up ASAP. That doesn't look right AT all
note: you have 1 year from the date you purchased the phone with AT&T for hardware issues.

If it isn't your screen protector, it is a "Newton Ring", a defect in the LCD. Send it in for warranty replacement.
I had the same issue with my TP2... I would be able to see the colors only under white light or under bright sunlight. I figured it might have sprung up after I dropped the fone. Luckily, mine was under warranty and I had the device replaced for no cost by TMo...you can go down that path or search for the LCD replacement for your fone
Okay guys answer this for me. I didn't buy the phone new, rather I traded my Iphone 3GS for it in or around January. I know the phone didn't come out until September 2009 (I believe). Can I still claim the warranty?
i got the exact same thing, and seeing how my phone is acting up now as soon as i fix it i guess i will be sending it up for a replacement. I thought it was just from the screen protector but i guess its more than that

I got my phone in December.... just called into ATT yesterday to get a warranty exchange because the microphones on my phone stopped working. as long as you have only had it for a year it should be okay. Did you get it from AT&T or did you just trade a friend for it or something?
Either way, it will only take you about 5-10 minutes on the phone to find out if you can exchange it. Might be worth just taking the time to make the phone call to find out.
Ok, so my Tilt 2 just started doing this exact same thing. I called ATT and they said this voids the warranty. They also said if I go through with an exchange and htc feels that its out of warranty then they will charge my account 400+ dollars for the phone.

You know, the issue the thread is about. But I will share the rest of my story in my next post.
Alright, So I'd like to elaborate and share my experience with the "newton's rings" issue. Before via phone call, AT&T said that it was physical damage (even though I treated the device with care) thus voiding the warranty. They told me that if it was a common problem, it would not be a big deal, and then continued to claim that it wasn't a common problem even though I found numerous forums discussing the issue. After discussing the issue further with them, they directed me to a device care center where techs can look at the phone. Once I arrived, I showed the phone to a young lady with a very dry and cold personality (but that was fine) and she took one ultra quick look a the phone and said it was covered, even said that my screen would straight up go out soon because of it. She set up an overnight delivery of a new phone (she swears it's not refurbished) and I was on my way in less than a few minutes. I was baffled that I couldn't get this done over the phone and don't really understand why the employees at the device center seemed so much more knowledgeable than the WARRANTY customer care people I spoke with on the phone.
Overall, it wasn't a super awful experience, but I did have to jump through some unnecessary hoops to get it done. I hope people can learn from my experience today! Good luck!
AT&T replaced mine, but stated the cause was "stress" related. That's bull crap though, it just started doing it on its own. They wanted to claim it on my insurance, but after arguing with a supervisor, they shipped me out another one.
So I droped my phone and now I have a purple spot in my screen.
I was wondering do you think I can get a replacement G2 even if I have S-off. I was thinking about just flashing the stock rooted backup I have and sending it in. Has anyone gotten a replacement with S-off?

you would need to go back to stock to send it back to tmobile or you will be voiding your warrenty

Obvious physical damage is unlikely to be repaired under warranty unless you have paid extra for this kind of protection.
Search around and you can find an LCD to install yourself. This is one EXAMPLE (I don't know the provider and there are other places to buy them from, possibly for less money...)

Yeah, LCD's can be funny like that. Like touching a laptop screen gets you some funny colors. They are somewhat flexible, on a phone, the flexible lcd is somewhat protected by the inflexible digitizer.
Year at first I was very disappointed cause I had the spot there for about 30 mins the posted this thread, went to sleep and it was gone which made me happy...would have sucked ifap I did send it back cause I just put one of those stealth guards on my phone the full body cover one.

I think the best thing to do in this case is to brick the phone to the point it doesnt even turn on. Discreetely of course. I had major water damage on my TP2 with a custom rom before. But the fact that the phone didnt even start up and that I bleached the moisture indicators helped me get a warranty replacement.

You're late to the thread (and obviously didn't read it through). His problem was just temporary. Also, your solution is in extremely poor taste (both ethically and legally).
I sent my g1 in, with a crack all the way across the screen, discoloration everywhere, and lots of other scratches. (fell out of my pocket from a motorcycle) and they offered me the "upgrade" to the click at the time so i took it. I wasnt charged anything, and what they dont tell you is that if you are charged, its only gonna be 100 bucks, which is the same as what you'd pay with insurance.
Well with my g1 any problem I had with it I just sent it in for a replac ement and all it ever costed was $40 but I think that's cause the plan I have. But not sure about my g2 now cause I haven't had to send it in for a replacement yet "knock on wood" but I do wonder how much it will cost me to get a replacement.

I knew that the OP's original problem did not apply anymore. The purpose of my reply was rather to share my experience with the others reading the post, ethics aside. As far as legality goes, you got me there now that I think about it, so I am forced to advise against doing this. Although in reality I hardly think it's any worse than not claiming the money earned from selling a phone, laptop etc., on your taxes.

That depends... how many phones and laptops are you selling? Your used stuff? Or are you in that business? You may be perfectly OK on that, consult an accountant for precise details.
I just noticed some today. I've got 1 (maybe 2) black dead pixels and stuck red subpixel.
Should I send it back, or just ignore it? I've had it since Friday, so they're clearly not that obvious (or maybe I just got them, who knows).
Anybody else have a similar experience? Any tips for getting rid of them if they're just stuck and not dead?
Dead pixels for phones are usually instant replace, no questions asked, if under warranty. There should be an app for stuck pixels where it flashes different colours on the screen in order to "unstick" the pixels.
Depends on how bad it is. At this high a resolution on such a small screen it probably isnt very noticeable. But then again once you notice it might be an eyesore and worth taking back.

Well, now that I have noticed it it's a bit of a pain, but you're correct in saying (whoever it was) that it's not that much of an issue because it's such a high resolution.
The bright pixels are more annoying than the dead ones, but the question is, would it be possible to get it repaired in Australia, even though I bought the phone from Handtec in England? I really don't want to wait for it to be back and then come over here again.

I'd say it's doubtful they would allow you to replace it in Australia. It's Samsung after all and since importing it you have no warranty in your country. You should have warranty in the UK for it though.

Actually, no. In many countries (and this might also be warranty-dependant), dead pixels do not lead to successful warranty replacement. I work in an IT company that also deals with hardware for a lot of clients and this question has been raised in the past and we have been unable to send a monitor with less than three dead pixels back under warranty.
Might be different with a mobile handset, but with a Samsung's SyncMaster monitor it was not replaced under warranty.
So I dropped my phone today and cracked the screen. Already made the claim, listed a major crack or multiple cracks, blah blah blah.
What I'm wondering is this: Since it's obviously hardware damage and in no way linked to software, should I even worry about flashing back to stock before I send it in? If so would it not be just as easy, and in a sick/twisted way fulfilling, to just render the screen completely unusable after I activate the replacement? I'm thinking as long as the screen is inoperable they won't even worry about firmware/modem/etc, but wonder if that's just me being naive.

Asurion could care less if it's rooted/ROM'd, etc... It's not their job to care. Even if the damage to the phone was caused by rooting, like a hard brick or something, they would still replace it. It's incidental damage, which is what they cover.

So really the only people who would care are the service techs if its a software problem or some issue they can write off on rooting? I know it voids your warranty, but who if anyone would care at all?

This is some good information to know just in case this exact circumstance may happen to others. I thought there was an FCC rule stating that rooting/jailbreaking a phone was allowable?
Dude if you a bit technical, you can swap the lcd and send back the refurbish mother board back to them with the crack screen, unles you are having sw issues or you have them send the device activated already, then just keep the refurbish unit

about this when it was fresh, albeit the exact details are eluding me. Anyways, the legality of rooting is no longer in question when you sign that 2-year contract. Yes you are in the legal clear to root, but the contract states clearly that rooting will void your warranty

I don't doubt for a second the possibility of doing so, however I've yet to have an issue with a refurbished phone. Yes I'll have to reroot, relocate my data, etc. but I'm sure all of that will take a fraction of the time it'll take me to swap out screens. Although I do see some of the perks for those that are far more technologically inclined, as you're basically refurbing your own phone. But for $100 I expect to get more than just a new screen. These scratches are just plain ugly all around the bezel and on the battery door.
Thanks for the advice though, just because it isn't right for me doesn't mean someone else won't find it useful in some way, shape or form.

So my next thought is if by some chance I brick the phone before I send it back, will that have any affect in itself? I'm debating on using my 10 day window to see if by flashing from ICS to GB to see if there's any information I can find to share with our devs as to what's bricking everybody. That is, only if there is any actual information that that could provide. If not I'll just let this horse die and just migrate to the next handset quietly.
Obviously if I could I'd just donate the phone to one of you guys as a spare to try tinkering with, but Asurion takes insurance fraud quite personally from what their site says

You can brick it, submerge it in water, drive over it with your Hummer H1, toss it out a 10 story window, microwave it, urinate all over it and then send it back to them and it would make no difference.
Gotcha, as long as they get the phone they could care less about its actual condition.
Now would it even be helpful to flash back and forth grabbing logcats along the way or is it pretty much at a point where only source will help?
I'd like to contribute some how, figured maybe that could be my start.

I need a full replacement because I've sent my phone to warranty for a couple of REAL screen problems (some color problems, a dead pixel, etc) and they sent me the phone back saying that they hadn't find any defect, which is a lie.
So i want a way that they can replace it. As simple as that.
The problem is not me, they are.
So please don't criticize for something you don't know. Ask first what's happening.

If they determine that your phone doesn't have a defect that warrants a free replacement, then that's something between you and them. As was clear based on your last thread, you are trying to commit warranty fraud by bricking your device to obtain a replacement, which is not cool.
This is something you need to take up with them, not try to cheat the system.
And again, we don't talk about these things on XDA.

I know that, but as I have those screen issues and they say don't, what can I do?
The screen is full of purple colors, when I close some app the image bands on screen for a couple of seconds, I have vertical stripes visible on Grey colors, I have a dead pixel... And they say it's all okay, after a couple of weeks being 'analyzed' in the warranty...
I have to get a way to get at last the screen replaced!

Welcome to the Gnex screen. Get used to it.
Minus the dead pixel. That's not normal. Maybe take a picture of your screen and circle the dead pixel so we can see.
