Re: Change Gnex (continuation) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Re: Change Gnex (continuation)
Because my last thread was DELETED (nice democracy), there's the explanation of it.
PLEASE don't talk about what you don't know.
I need a full replacement because I've sent my phone to warranty for a couple of REAL screen problems (some color problems, a dead pixel, etc) and they sent me the phone back saying that they hadn't find any defect, which is a lie.
So i want a way that they can replace it. As simple as that.
The problem is not me, they are.
So please don't criticize for something you don't know. Ask first what's happening.

If they determine that your phone doesn't have a defect that warrants a free replacement, then that's something between you and them. As was clear based on your last thread, you are trying to commit warranty fraud by bricking your device to obtain a replacement, which is not cool.
This is something you need to take up with them, not try to cheat the system.
And again, we don't talk about these things on XDA.

I know that, but as I have those screen issues and they say don't, what can I do?
The screen is full of purple colors, when I close some app the image bands on screen for a couple of seconds, I have vertical stripes visible on Grey colors, I have a dead pixel... And they say it's all okay, after a couple of weeks being 'analyzed' in the warranty...
I have to get a way to get at last the screen replaced!

Welcome to the Gnex screen. Get used to it.
Minus the dead pixel. That's not normal. Maybe take a picture of your screen and circle the dead pixel so we can see.

Case solved. Please block/delete. Thanks

Screen flashes black

Hi, when i open my gamepad slightly my screen will flash black, and if i hold it in a certain positionbit will stay black until moved.
This also happens sometimes when picking up my phone
Is it a loose cable or something?
Should i get it replaced?
Rooted stock R800i, .42
Thanks
Probably the ribbon cable inside the slider. It's a known defective part.
Sent from a Galaxy far, far away..
So i could claim it on my warranty?
I got this problem too. But mine worse, sometimes when I wanna type a message the screen goes black, or the screen's light go like disco light, keep blinking at the home page and camera. I sent to Sony Centre to claim warranty but after few days they returned me and told me it was a software problem. Could this be kernel problem?
Yeah, sometimes just touching the screen can do it
I want to unroot before i cant see anything haha
Ive noticed that its just the backlight that goes off, if i make it go black and look at the screen in light i can still see the things there
Im going to request a replacement regardless, starting to annoy me
I tried to reinstall stock firmware but no use. Still the same. I'm gonna tear everything apart and take a look at the ribbon.

DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT take it apart!!
Once you do that your warranty is void permanently and no way to hide it! I can guarantee it's not your software. Revert it to absolute perfect stock and show them it still happens. I'm positive it's the hardware, NOT software.
If they don't wanna fix it after factory restoring, threaten to call head office about it because you already know it's hardware error and they are refusing.
And also mention that many people on the internet are aware that the slider cable is faulty, many have replaced it and fixed the same problem you have.
I'm thinking of mailing them, and requesting they have a recall because more and more people are having the same problem.

Ok, the screen only flashes black on SYSTEM APPS. The installed apps dont have this issue
Seems to have happened after i rooted
Any new ideas?
Okay. Thanks captain. I will follow your orders.
Ok, so ive tried to claim on my warrenty. They said they were gunna send a packet out to return the phone for repair. This was a few weeks ago. Within this time i have called them up 3 extra times stating i havnt recieved the pack.
Is this easy enough to fix myself as im bored of waiting for them and im doubting im ever going to recieve any repair
Thanks

Burned screen?

I have got my nexus yesterday, but there are thing burned in the screen I think (I have a screen protector, but I don't think it is on that), are there ways to fix it? Or do I have to take it back to the store?
Thanks for your help,
And hello Nexus community

Burn-in was a term for LCD screens, not AMOLED.Think of it as something called "reverse led fatigue"
Calling it a burn it is incorrect, but more widely known. Check this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27350974&postcount=4

So, can I fix this by putting my phone at full brightness on a white screen for a while?
If it is possible to fix it it would be awesome!

And what? A movie with white screen running the whole night? Will that fix it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You could plug your phone into the wall, make a white image, turn off nav bar(If on custom rom) and select keep phone awake in the dev section of settings.
Or you could go the movie route, but plug it in, so it won't run out of juice in 2 hour
So screen on on white screen will fix my problem? and can't cause other damage?

I hardly think anything can take damage from doing so. Just make sure the phone don't overheat but still doesn't get too cold.
Laying the phone near a window overnight can be very bad for it.

They should and they will, if all is like they want it. Just return the phone to stock in all aspects. I don't think it matters if it's yakju/takju/yakjusc etc.
Over time burn in can happen. But if the phone is only one day old then maybe I'd return it? I hide top and bottom bar daily and browse the web to exercise all the pixels to avoid burn in.

To everyone: AFTER 3 HOURS OF WHITE SCREEN THE BURN-IN IS DISAPPEAR FOR A BIT! Tommorow i will try it longer, because battery is death

Do consider that if you return your gnex for warranty purposes, you may get a refurb with horrible screen.

This is a factory defect. I just called Verizon and they replaced it. Should be here tomorrow, I had the same issue and tried all the remedies. It's just a defective panel to be honest. If you can get a new one, do it.

Does Samsung USA so a good screen repair?

Hey guys, I called Samsung US about my screen banding, and they said they will fix it for free. Do you think that they will actually fix my problem? I have good color, aside from a bit of blue noticeable on the top of the screen when the screen is all white. I just have horizontal boxes crossing the screen. They really aren't terrible, I'm a little anal about this stuff... Is it worth not having a phone for two weeks for them to fix it? Alo, will I have to un-root and lock the phone before I send it?

Their fix should work.
Depends on how anal you are.
yes.
Just a question, do you think I should expect to see any sort of discoloration or banding on the repaired screen? Is that still an accepted part of these screens?
Haha, so I un-rooted my Nexus so that I could send it in for repair (I know, I'm a procrastinator...), and I just got it back today. Samsung sent it back to me unlocked! I find it funny. It saved me a step to root, haha.

Dead Pixel line on screen. what do i do?

My screens got a dead pixel line on it after i dropped it. I've eliminated the factors of it being a software issue and its a hardware issue. Should i just stick with it or bring it back to AT&T? :crying:
Is it visible its been dropped? If so, if you have insurance file a claim. If there's no visible scuffs or anything you may be able to exchange it as a hardware defect.

What should you do about an issue you are responsible for and only impacts you?
Have insurance? Use it.

These 'burn ins' are reported often for the GNEX (or other AMOLED devices). I can see them myself on my 10 months old GNEX, not very clear though (maybe I just don't care enough). There are a few apps on the play store that supposedly revive the off-color sections. However, because of the fact the navbar and status bar on the same location >90% of the time, the burn ins will soon return. I'm not sure if you can claim these 'burn ins' under warranty, but even if you could, it's only a matter of time before named sections of the screen will burn in again on your fresh GNEX.
Yea that's what I have read when doing some research. And they probably wouldn't put it under warranty so I guess I should just get used to it.
Samsung has replaced my Gnex screen due to a burn in issue at the nav bar. I only had to send it in , not a question asked. I even offered to email them a photo showing the issue and they said it is not needed.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I just picked up a nexus second hand with screen burn, rang Samsung and they just said to send it in for replacement screen. They may of course send it back unfixed when I do, but I explained clearly what the problem was to their rep and they seemed to think it was covered by warranty.
Frankly it would be hard to see why it wouldn't be covered by warranty. They might assert that its just a matter of wear and tear, but I would say that if you follow the comprehensive instructions that come with it and a component stops working as expected within a year that its a question it should be covered by warranty.
(Bear in mind that the instructions are as specific as telling you not to suck the battery, paint the screen or microwave your device, but say nothing of how long to leave the screen on for.)
Of course if they say no it can be hard to actually assert your rights. But for most phone manufacturers its just easier to fix the thing.
Thanks for the replies guys I'll give them a call today.
I, personally, take the framework_res.apk out of whatever rom I'm about to flash...
Edit /res/values/dimens.xml Navsize values to 0...
And install LMTPIE.
This might even help reverse some burn in.
I got burn-in after just three months of pretty heavy usage. I knew it would happen, but it's still disappointing.
I'm getting really leery of buying AMOLED again, to be perfectly honest - as this also happened on my N1.
Wouldn't a transparent Nav bar and status bar prolong the life of the screen?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
In my nexus warranty card it stated that burn-ins are normal for all types of LCD and OLED screens after time and this issue is not covered by warranty.

Lolwut?! They mention it's known to happen and say it's not covered? Let them deny someone. I'd take them to court. You can't mention something as a known or expected hardware failure and not cover it, rofl.

Depends on how you look at it. It's not exactly a hardware 'failure' since the screen is still working at a level that does not impede with usage of the phone. It's just annoying (depending on who you ask). Compare it with a dead pixel on your brand new TFT computer screen. In some countries, this is not covered by warranty.
I'm not convinced that if someone in the Netherlands would take it to court, they'd win.
Now I'm scared my phone will soon before crap lol
