After ODIN back to stock rooted EL29 and putting on CWM, can you nandroid restore using CWM Rogue without having any issues of EMMC, correct?
You can restore nandroids no problem. However if you made a Android with cwm6 you cannot restore from cwm5

How do you dump an image of the phone's ROM to a file, and is it flashable via Odin when you dump it? If it is not Odin flashable, how do you make it so it can be flashed with Odin?
99% sure this isn't possible.
Closest you will get is doing a backup with ClockWork and then you can restore it to bring the phone back to the identical state it was when you made the backup.
You could probably dump the /system and make a .zip to get a flashable zip file but that's about it.

So how do we get the flashable files, such as "SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar" that we can flash via Odin? My main issue with CWM is for when I'm messing with other ROMS. To date, despite clearing all caches and data multiple times, I've never been able to do a CWM restore without first Odin flashing the base system (Stock DI18 or DK28). Every time I've backed up (say DI18) with CWM, flashed DK28, decided to go back to my original DI18, it would never restore right. It would only do so if I first Odin'ed the stock DI18, then restored the backup.
I'd love to be able to dump my own Odin flashable backup for these purposes.
Now if CWM was a full Nandroid backup that completely re-flashed the ROM top to bottom, that would be different.

Were you making sure to flash a kernel when restoring your backup? Nandroid doesn't backup or restore your kernel. So if you updated to dk28 and then tried to restore back to di18, you would still have the dk28 kernel and would have problems. If you flash a di18 based kernel after restoring your di18 backup, you should be fine. I've found the easiest way to restore a backup is just to reflash the rom and then advanced restore /data. Your data partition is where your apps and settings will be.
So I soft bricked my phone... wasn't thinking and nandroid back to gingerbread from calkulin's ICS, then tried flashing CWM EL26 over it. Rebooted and I can't get back to recovery or download mode.
I'll try turning it on, see the samsung boot logo for two seconds and then it'll turn right back off.
What can I do? Thanks.
Update: Got into CWM... whew
To go back to gb, you need to install gb based cwm recovery first something like Rogue el29 recovery kernel and don't wait until reboot. During the reboot, go into recovery mode and restore your nandroid.
(Before restoring nandroid backup, format all is recommended)
One more important thing is, be sure that your nandroid backup is correct (md5 checksum).

I'd be careful with the nandroid using CWM from ICS to GB, that's how I (and a few other people) hard bricked the phone with the early ICS leaks.

If you're going back to GB I'd recommend using on of sfhub's One-Click ROM's!!
Just Odin back to EL29 with a full restore from Sfhub then install cwm from the autosticky root and restore your nand there, don't even touch the cwm included with ICS builds they are they're to flash things that don't require any wipes of any kind. People have been installing GB cwm through Odin then restoring from there but that is not a good idea and if you brick then don't say I didn't warn you.

Ok so after the AOKP hard brick debacle, what is the preferred method of Nandroid backup (if any) for ics roms or even just gingerbread roms. I am not messing with rom manager to backup my roms anymore. Someone said rom manager is taboo on this forum lol
Odin/Mobile odin the el26 cwm kernel and backup your setup there. Once done, you can either just reflash the rom or flash a compatible kernel so it will boot.
If you ever want to restore, just odin/mobile the el26 cwm kernel, restore nandroid, then flash compatible kernel so it will boot.
So i can use this method to backup an ics rom? I would be using mobile odin pro. The EL26 kernel.
Yes. And you would also need the kernel for the rom. After you backup or restore you will still have the el26 kernel. So you would need to flash the kernel actually meant for your rom

I have a TWRP nandroid of AOKP which I would like to restore to. Would it be safe to restore using Agat's custom recovery? Thanks.
I thought agats was cwm. If so you can't.

Right now im on cm10.1, but prior to flashing 10.1, i did a nandroid backup using the el29 direct boot kernal. In order to restore my stock jb backup, do i just load this el29 kernal, then do a nandroid restore? After the restore is completed, do i then go into download mode and flash the stock JB kernal?
