Restoring TWRP Nandroid from Agat's Recovery? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have a TWRP nandroid of AOKP which I would like to restore to. Would it be safe to restore using Agat's custom recovery? Thanks.

I thought agats was cwm. If so you can't.

Can i restore a backup made with CWM on rogue

title says it all can i restore a backup that i made with CWM recovery using the team rogue CWM recovery
yes as it is still cwm. if it was different versions like say cwm 4 then no. but all of our recoveries now I believe use the same. so yes. restore away.
ok cool thanks
no problem man. happy flashing!

[Q] Alternative reliable nandroid?

Ok so after the AOKP hard brick debacle, what is the preferred method of Nandroid backup (if any) for ics roms or even just gingerbread roms. I am not messing with rom manager to backup my roms anymore. Someone said rom manager is taboo on this forum lol
Odin/Mobile odin the el26 cwm kernel and backup your setup there. Once done, you can either just reflash the rom or flash a compatible kernel so it will boot.
If you ever want to restore, just odin/mobile the el26 cwm kernel, restore nandroid, then flash compatible kernel so it will boot.
So i can use this method to backup an ics rom? I would be using mobile odin pro. The EL26 kernel.
Yes. And you would also need the kernel for the rom. After you backup or restore you will still have the el26 kernel. So you would need to flash the kernel actually meant for your rom

[Q] Restoring From A Different Recovery

Hi all. I'm coming from a HTC Evo so some things on the touch are a little different to me. My question is this: I have noticed that some roms require a specific recovery be used. I am running AGAT recovery now but the rom I am wanting to install requires CWM. If I flash this rom and recovery, how do I get my AGAT backups if needed. Do I just reflash AGAT and use them? Like I said coming from an EVO, I only had one recovery (AMON) for all my needs. Switching back and forth between recoveries and how to do it is new to me.
Thanks,
LJ
CWM backups done in CWM or CWM based recovery should work in any CWM recovery of compatible version. TWRP, being a different case.
This phones recovery is packed in the kernel which you might have found out by now. You can flash kernels in recovery if they have a zip or you can use mobile odin (desktop odin as well) to flash tar's.
You can flash the kernel you used for the backup and then restore the backup if you want. If AGAT's recovery is CWM based (many are) you can flash most roms with it. Thats the entire point of it. But once you flash the rom you will have whatever kernel/recovery that rom has until you flash another one so it will change on you. If your going AOSP (cm9 etc) then stock cwm is of course recommended.
Thanks for the info.

There is not 4ext recovery for the epic touch. And no cwm wont restore backups from any other recovery except cwm or a cwm variant

Nandroid Restore Stock Rooted EL29

After ODIN back to stock rooted EL29 and putting on CWM, can you nandroid restore using CWM Rogue without having any issues of EMMC, correct?
You can restore nandroids no problem. However if you made a Android with cwm6 you cannot restore from cwm5

[Q] Is this recovery safe?

I recently installed the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285290
It includes AGAT_Recovery tREC_v0.3.5
I made a nandroid backup with it (it looks and functions identically to CWM). When I flashed back the EL26 ODIN one-click and tried recovery, the system image failed to flash. My question is: if I need to make a restoration with a system image created in AGAT_Recovery tREC_v0.3.5, is that image safe to restore with AGAT_Recovery tREC_v0.3.5?
Thanks for reading!

You must restore using the same kernel that you used to create the backup.

OK, so in every case the 'safe' recover is EL26 (Gingerbread). That is a different kernel than my current ROM runs. So basically, what do I need to do to nandroid backup & recover? Like I CWM failed when doing the above. Next time, are you saying that I:
EL26 CWM-->(flash kernel of ROM backup)-->(restore ROM)-->??

Yes, you can flash the Agat kernel from EL26 and then restore the CWM to restore the backup.
The Agat is a safe kernel and fine for backup & restore and flashing mods but many phones have issues with flashing entire roms with it (no need to flash a different kernel unless you are reflashing the rom) so we recommend using the older EL26 CWM or EL29 Directboot kernels just for when you're flashing JB roms. The only time you would need EL26 or EL29 is for flashing a fresh JB rom. This why you see instructions for flashing the Project X rom using EL26 or EL29 Directboot and the same applies to any custom JB rom.
Note: Of course, always follow the special flashing instructions that are provided for any custom rom.

So the basic procedure in this case would be (from Agat Kernel CFW) --> flash EL26 cwm --> Flash CFW kernel --> restore CFW
Am I understanding you correctly?
Not sure why the extra step there.
You created the backup with Agat, you have to use it to restore it too.
If that's what you said, then yeah go for it.

My only concern was with the the fact that the rom is indeed JB based. Thanks for the help
