[Discussion] FH-23 Leak - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

In a few minutes all of us will be flashing this FH-23 Leak, so please lets all discuss the bugs, battery, signal, performance etc here.
FH-23 Leak [sextape]: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858302
[ROM by crawrj]: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858739

Since this is the discussion thread, I am seeing FH versions here and there (I'm still on FF18)... Does FH = Jellybean?

I wish I could give you a complete, confident answer. Here is what little I think I know: I don't know what the F means, but H is for August (H is the 8th letter of the alphabet). 23 is the build date.

F=year 2012
H=month august
##=day 23

I just expirenced the wifi sleep / no wakeup bug for the first time on fh23.
Too early to tell about battery life, seems roughly similar to fh13.
Interestingly some defaults on first boot included 4G enabled and battery percent disabled.

Well that kills it for me then. Wifi bug still there. Sprint get off your damn ass and fix this crap.

according to most the best this is the modem in this leak, there are some minor additions such as the customization that is available in the S3 in mobile data that allows for the best available connection both Wifi and Data(3G/4G), scrolling seems to be better and also on the dialer the contacts have been put back, i am experiencing slow charge though, i flashed agat's latest kernel and also placebo 2.0 right off the bat before i decided to start bat cycle's :cyclops:

I could care less, but task manager bug is still there too.
Scrolling and overall snapiness is great though making ics feel much better on this phone. The wifi bug is annoying enough but with regular leaks I can live with it until the next one.

Don't advise flashing the stock fh23 repack by agat. It hangs on the boot screen. His latest 0.5.2 kernel works perfectly though.

Why is ICS still being developed

They did half ass work to push an update due to the demand. Now they have to fix the issues they overlooked because of all the complaining

That is only if you do a data wipe. It will hang on boot if you wipe data or factory reset from settings. Does that on his FH13 and FH23 repacks. His other kernels have worked fine for data wiping.

Ahh... I'm still a little wary of using anything to wipe unless it's been made safe at the kernel - so I fall back to Agat's FF18 recompile/recovery since I know that's safe. But I flashed another zip without wiping on FH23 repack and that seemed OK.

Whats inside?
Repacked FD24, FD26, FE07, FE10, FE14,FE16, FE22 Kernel (zImage)
Very Lightly Tweaked

FE22 KERNEL HAS SEVERAL CHANGES OVER THE OLDER FE KERNELS SO THIS KERNEL WAS A WORTH WHILE REPACK

Thanks and Congrats on learning something new. I am on a learning spree myself lately and it makes Android a lot more fun! I will try it out this evening
I should ask, this is obviously intended for ICS roms? Will it work with a GB rom?

Glad to see you branching out and stepping into all areas... I too was following your thread over in General and still am. May I suggest something since so many in here are all about the latest and the greatest. You should also do your tweaks for the latest kernel out FD26. Although it might not be a difference just that number change alone will get people going.
Also will this kernel and hopefully future ones be overclockable/underclockable? These are questions I know are coming.... Great job and thanks again for contributing

Thanks for the work man, are you going to be doing the fd26 kernel too? I am running Agat's tFD26_v0.1.0 Odexed. Is this kernel different from the one DataHawg released here? This is what I am running at the moment...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25509798&postcount=212
Also, is there any difference between using mobile Odin to go back to the fd02+cwm to flash this or unzipping your pkg and using mobile Odin to insert it?
FD24 and FD26 are the same but just have a different number attached to it i.e FD## so i could do an FD26 the same way but it wouldnt make a difference.

Hey Reactive will this work with AOKP based roms (like Codename) and CM9?
Edit: since there is unsecured recovery, that now means that we are able to flash roms, modems, etc with it. even though it is not recommended lol

MR 4 means Maintenance Release 4.
It's their 4th maintenance release for the phone.
I think it went EL26 -> EL29 -> FF18 -> FH13. were all OTAs
Was expecting this since they added FH13 to the open source page this morning as mentioned over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30559316&postcount=202

As long as the "core" apps are in place and all you did was root, according to the sfhubs threads with one clicks, you'll get the ota.
That being said - being rooted alone, people have failed at getting ota pushes.
If you really want ota, best bet is to go back stock and unless anyone can say different, that means going back to ek02..
(My 2 cents..)

Yes. I'll have those up this morning.

Err, I may have messed up.

Had my E4GT for a while now, came with FF18 2.3.6, then did the OTA 4.0.4 FL27, then went through FL24. Then I got sick of waiting for JB, so I threw GA10 4.1.2.
I messed up, because I Rooted, installed AGAT, then flashed the ROM on the phone. However, when I flashed either the ROOT or Recovery, the modem or something got messed up.
The phone will freeze, and reset if 4G or 3G radio is on. So my question is, what did I do wrong? And how can I fix it.

I don't know what my modem is. I'm going to try to turn 3G and 4G off fast enough before my phone freezez to confirm it's not 2G as well.
How do I check? As it sits, it has OTA FL24 4.0.4 + ROOT and AGAT recovery.

Absolutely. Just when it starts up, it works fine for about 10-15 seconds then freezes. GA10 didn't do this. This freezing only happened when I had the root and AGAt on it (I messed up one of these, and I assume it's modem issues?)
IF so, if I flash the EL29 package with the modem, it should fix my problem?
Also, it doesn't really matter...but will it make the yellow triangle and ODIN flash count go away?

Then I tried AOSP 4.1.1 Alpha 6 (Fantastic, but horrid battery life)
GA10 (Best I've tried, but horrid battery life)
2.3.6 OTA is my favorite so far.
Yellow triangle is gone... XD

Alright, it's all back to FL29 stock. (I swear, it's about as fast as Jb...)
Now I'll just be happy with it..
I tried AOKP 4.1.1, which ran HOT and had many issues (For me)
Then I tried AOSP 4.1.1 Alpha 6 (Fantastic, but horrid battery life)
GA10 (Best I've tried, but horrid battery life)
2.3.6 OTA is my favorite so far.
Yellow triangle is gone... XD

Ahh. Thank you
So I'm Rooted with 2.3.6. I'll throw on a custom recovery or something, and wait it out for a good ROM...

There are plenty of good ics ROM's. If I may suggest if your a big battery person Blazers ics ROM, not to much to customize, but if you like customization then I would suggest Blu Kuban
