Does anyone have any experience with Samsung USA's service department to get service for a phone purchased overseas? Since it seems us GSM users are being left to kick rocks when it comes to getting a Galaxy Nexus here, I'm wondering if it's possible to import one without the worry that I wouldn't be able to fix it if it broke or was shipped as a lemon.

I can tell you that Samsung wouldn't honour warranties for UK customers who had bought the grey-imported SLCD version of the Nexus S.

they will not warrant any phone purchased else where
This is my fear for importing the phone. Are there any other options? I really want to import this phone, but I'm very hesitant to spend around $700 and have no type of warranty.

i know with tmobile if you have there insurance they will replace it with a current equivalent. I do not see why samsung will not honor a warranty covered defect no matter where it is sold

yeah...which you would've thought would apply to the SLCD version of the Nexus S...but it didn't.

ive bought alot of devices from overseas basically your localised companies will not do warranties, instead you have to contact in this case samsung UK get an RMA form then mail the device back to samsung uk and they do the repairs/replacement and send it back.
now as for uk stores some will handle this for you such as clove in that case you contact clove and they help you with the RMA process
i find it kinda strange no one has had to do this before or just says no warranty :\
having said that they will not honor the usual user damage instead you will have to pay to get that fixed (ie water damage or negligence)

Thanks for sharing this. This is good news, as I just want to be assured that if something w/ the phone goes bad, I'll have somewhere to send it to be repaired.
Hello everybody!
I just got a Galaxy Nexus today, and found out the WiFi on it doesn't work.
Every time I try to turn it on, it just hangs at the "Turning WiFi on" screen, and no networks ever come up.
The phone came with CM9, and flashing back to stock 4.0.1 ITL41D didn't help either.
I also tried doing a battery pull, and draining the battery all the way. I also tried clearing the cache and flashing a UG North American radio, since I have the Canadian GT-I9250M. The wifi FXR app on the market didn't work either, which wasn't surprising, but I thought it was worth a try.
I bought this phone off of craigslist, so there's no warranty on it
Any ideas out there? All help is appreciated.
EDIT: I will try flashing to stock 4.0.2 ICL53F and post if that fixes it.
Definitely try completely re-flashing everything to stock...
And this is a warning to people to not buy phones on craigslist without a serious inspection. I'd be especially weary of phones that come rooted and ROMed too...
Yeah, lesson learned lol.
And yes, I completely flashed to stock and it still didn't help.

No matter what third party seller sells the phone there should still be a manufacturer warranty through the manufacturer. There should still be a 1 year manufacturer warranty through Samsung for that phone and since that phone hasn't been out yet you should be able to send it to them to fix it. Just call customer service, tell them what the problem is and give them the serial number so that they can arrange for you to send the phone to a samsung repair center. I had the same thing happen with my nexus s 4g that i bought from a guy on ebay. The sound board started acting up a month after i got it so i sent it to sansung.

If its a GSM model, Samsung won't take a warranty claim from the US unless you're extremely lucky. They don't sell it in the US, you'd need to use an importer to handle the warranty.

They will direct you to where you do need to sell. There has to be a way to use that manufacturer warranty.

Sorry but there isn't. Samsung doesn't support the GSM model in the US. If you have a i9250 in the US, you didn't buy it through an official channel and they have no obligation to support it with a warranty. This is why using a reputable importer is so important.
Like I said, there's a chance, but there is no guarantee at all on their part.
Hello, i've been using a tmo SGSII for a while.
I was going to change into GN when it comes out for TMO later.
but it seems i've been waiting forever for it, and i'm giving up.
I'm trying to buy a unlocked GSM version of GN.
i'm thinking of buying GN from here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...4353?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item2c642a7221#rpdId
just because it's in US, and it'll be easier for me to sent it back if there's any problem.
Do you think it's okay for me to buy GN around this time?
or should i just wait for the SGSIII in... like Q4? (i don't mind buying both of them)
plus, i heard unlocked gsm GNs' are OS locked, where you cannot upgrade the software via OTA.
is this true? or this doesn't matter? would i be able to get an OTA without any problem? or do i have to use a 3rd party program? or i can't simply do it?

Sorry, not true. Just because you're buying it from a seller in the US doesn't mean that Samsung Europe will honor your warranty. If you want a guarantee (or as close to a guarantee as you'll get with a grey market device) of having a manufacturer warranty, choose a reputable US-based importer (not a random eBay seller) that will help facilitate the warranty exchange with Samsung. Samsung Europe will (most likely) not deal with a US customer directly because the phone is not sold here.

This is not true... Not sure what you're talking about. The entire point of buying unlocked phones is so that you can still receive the updates OTA without waiting for carriers to approve them. The Galaxy Nexus receives OTAs just fine.

i'm not talking about a warranty. i never get warranty, for anything. i take care of my electronic devices well (more like worshiping god lol. every single one of electronic devices that i ever had lived way over their life expectancy)
i'm talking about the amount of time for the phone to get to me. it should be way faster than from the overseas, correct?
also, it says i should get my money back if i return it within 7 days, and only one or two day is needed for me to figure out if there is anything wrong with the phone.
also, feedback of this seller is quite good
oh, can you tell me any reputable us based importer just in case ?
how does this look??

But seriously: if you ask such a question in a galaxy nexus forum everybody will tell you to buy the GNex you should decide by yourself and your needs and not by that what others tell you (free will you know? )

Hey guys I have a question that I'm not really sure there is an answer to. But I've bought my SGS2 from a third party. Does anyone know of a way that tmobile will honor the warranty?? The hardware keys are broken and I want to get a replacement device but they always bicker that I got the phone third party and I really don't understand why that matters at all.
I'm thinking they will just refer you to Samsung. Although they are fairly quick at getting you a replacement.
Go direct through Samsung instead. And the reason they are picky is the manufacturer requires the information for warranty.
Taken from samsung site : What must you do to obtain warranty service?
To obtain service under this Limited Warranty, you must return the Product to an authorized phone service facility in an adequate container for shipping, accompanied by the sales receipt or comparable proof of sale showing the original date of purchase, the serial number of the Product and the seller's name and address. To obtain assistance on where to deliver the Product, please call SAMSUNG Customer Care at 1-888-987-4357. If SAMSUNG determines that any Product is not covered by this Limited Warranty, you must pay all parts, shipping, and labor charges for the repair or return of such Product.

Your best bet to exchange with t-mobile is through customer care. Tell them you changed your number because thar causes it to shows wrong warranty info that way. Tech is smarter and they'll make sure what number used the inside first.
Theoretically if your similar was the first active similar t-mobile can replace.

I just did this myself... Got my phone brand new in sealed box off Ebay. Just did a warranty exchange with T-mobile (and I got lucky because they were out of stock and sent me a BRAND NEW IN BOX March 20, 2012 phone!!!).
So yea, go through T-mobile. Don't ask for a warranty exchange, call and go through tech support and tell them your phone's buttons are not working properly. Do the steps with them and then they willl eventually get to the part in the script about the warranty exchange.
They didn't ask me any questions at all about where I bought my phone. I was worried also but I ended up finding a lot of people that did this successfully.

This, except his wordchoices are questionable lol. Warranty doesn't seem to transfer from one number to another unless it's within the same family line. However that is usually not the case. There are times when it does transfer over. Not sure why... Stupid system.
The reps can only see if your warranty is valid, if not they need permission from a supervisor to bypass any authorization. So be nice to your rep and they'll help you out. You can tell them i just bought it so and do date, i even have the box but can't find my receipt should i send you the picture of the box? reps usually just say no you don't have to and see what they can do. Sealed off ebay is fine. As long as your number is the first phone to activate it, warranty should be valid for a year.

I just sent my phone to Samsung earlier today. I brought my phone off ebay and the screen stopped working (the phone turns works, but the screen wasn't working at all, and it showed a greenish color instead of what's suppose to be on the screen). I talked to their online CS Reps and after we couldn't fix it she filed the service claim for me AND they paid for 2nd day air (which they don't usually do). So, just go with Samsung support if you have doubts.
Ironically, my phone broke the morning after the Skyrockets ICS was leaked, and I didn't even get to flash it after the Devs here ported it =(
I have gotten multiple warranty replacements from tmobile for phones I purchased used.

I did not think Ebay was an authorized seller.
Is there any service charge with Samsung for warranty work?
Also, would I be correct assuming I would have to ship my phone out first and wait for a replacement with Samsung?
Thanks

Yeah you have to ship your phone and wait for it to come back.
That is the advantage of going through T-mobile....you get your new phone first before sending in your old one.
Thank you for your reply.
One last question for the people going through Samsung.
Are you actually telling them the issue is the screen or are you making up some nominal problem?

I told them the truth, because something really did happen to my screen.. If it has something to do with bricking your phone from flashing, just say an OTA or Kies update happened and your phone didn't come on... otherwise just tell the truth, unless it voids your warrenty.
I was just wondering if anyone new if tmo was still replacing this phone? I have the S2 and it needs to be sent in under my insurance. I was just wondering if they will actually replace the S2 with another S2 or have they stopped carrying it? If so, what would they upgrade it to? I've run into this problem before where they stopped carrying a phone and tried to replace it with something "similar". I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this yet?
Thanks!
well if in stock they will and if it is not they might try to talk you into grabbing an S4 or S3 if you dont want to wait if you do wait it could take upto a week for the replacement
Thanks for the advice! I really really like the S2 and don't know if I would want to trade up to the others. That was my problem. Before calling tmo and dealing with the time it takes to explain the problem and go through the fixes unlit they bring up replacement options; I didn't want to waste that time if they were going to give me a nexus or something.
I'll have to call them and leave them on speaker to truly find out. Thanks again!
no problem glad to give some advice anytime let me know how it goes for you tmobile is actually coming around so hey you might get lucky you never know good luck
Are you using insurance or is it a warranty replacement? If insurance its not tmobile, its asurion and if they dont have the device then they offer something with equal or "similar" specs. Warranty replacement is pretty much the same minus the 130 deductible you need for insurance claim.
