Anyone have the jelly bean stock browser? - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

Google Chrome kinda lags for me. I have tried looking for the stock browser apk but with no luck. I would really appreciate if someone would upload the apk for me. Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

I have it from a custom ROM and I think its much better. If you don't want to root dolphin HD browser on the market works just as well on mine. Chrome lagged for me also even stock but some have had better luck.

That sucks, I think chrome is amazing, a lot smoother then all the browsers I've used on my android devices, mainly HTC browser and ICS stock browser
But yes you need root to place the apk with the system apps

Chrome is the stock browser
Everyone says chrome is super fast & smooth & I have to agree, I've had no problems at all with it - it's fantastic.

I have to agree. I like the chrome browser even with the occasional flicker that I get.

By stock browser, I mean the stock browser used in Galaxy Nexus and CM10 builds. For Chrome, I always get these lags when typing on the address bar for both my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 devices. I'm not sure if it's because of my Swiftkey 3 is not playing nice with Chrome, but it certainly works pretty well with the Stock Browser.
If anyone has the jelly bean stock browser apk, i would greatly appreciate it if you could upload it. Thanks

Here is a link to the stock browser
http://db.tt/wzqKpNrU
Directions to install are as follows for those of you not familiar.
Use Root Explorer and copy the Browser.apk from your downloads folder and navigate to the /system/app
Folder and mount the system by tapping the (Mount R/W) button
Then paste the apk,Now you need to set permissions to look like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Next you need to find the browserproviderproxy.apk and browserproviderproxy.odex If your system has not been deodexed and rename them to browserproviderproxy1.apk and browserproviderproxy1.odex
If you don't do this last step the browser will force close.
Now reboot
Success
Note: You must be rooted (If you hadn't already figured this out)
And I would suggest having your Nexus 7 plugged in via USB and do the reboot using adb commands
That can be done by opening CMD and running the command
adb devices
adb reboot
I finally found the original thread and it can be found below, All thanks should be given the that OP

I've gotten so used to Chrome on the N7 that I hate using the stock browser on my Galaxy nexus. CM10 roms come prebuilt with the Browser app and I hated even getting the option which one to use.
However Facebook did complain about chrome not supporting picture uploads? I had to use the Browser app for that. This was on my phone btw that had both installed. Perhaps Chrome was missing something by default.
I just like the tabs being right there.

Well, I can't say it's going to work since the other one that was posted was FC'ing for people, but here's a copy of the browser from a fresh CM10 build I just did for my Galaxy Nexus..

I completely forgot a few steps in the process but I did find the original thread that I got the apk from last week here it is,Follow those steps and it will work,I will also modify my post to reflect the proper way to get it to work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746
Please give thanks to the OP in the above thread
Here are some screenshots to show it's working great and I can confirm this works on multiple Roms including stock and it also works with multiple DPI edits as well as the amazing patch found in the below thread

I prefer the stock browser over Chrome because Flash can be used, and prefer it over Dolphin because I have gotten so used to pinch-to-zoom, and Dolphin doesn't have that. So I was dismayed when stock browser was missing in Jelly Bean 4.1.2. Found the apk and added it back in. Works a treat.

Adobe Flash on 4.1 Jelly Bean!

Found this on the Android General discussion forum, and thought I'd bring it to attention here, since we proud Gnex owners are basically THE people rocking some jelly bean version phones, and I've seen many complaints about Adobe flash no longer working.
I take no credit for this guide, simply posting it here for those of us who don't have time/have a life and aren't scanning other forums.
Here's a link to the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336

Honestly? I personally don't really care about the whole flash buisness... but I don't use it much. Only time I did was when trying to watch streaming video on specific sites, and I've found other, easier alternatives. But there are some people who surf flash based sites on a regular basis, it's understandable they'd be annoyed, I have one friend who didn't want to make the switch to 4.1 because the whole flash issue...
If anyone else was worried about loosing flash support, no reason to now. Make the switch! JB is just worth it...
And people, remember, this is just a temporary way to hold off the inevitable pending death of flash and the rise of HTML5. Support s gone, Adobe announced they'd pull Flash from the app store all together on the 15th of August, and let's be honest, flash has always been a slow, clumsy way to surf the web on mobile (nevertheless, it was nice to have the possibility of running it).
For me, Flash Player carried over from ICS when I flashed the yakju JB OTA, so I had it all along. As I understand it though, all you really ever needed was to sideload the latest Flash (11.1.115.1.12) APK which we've had up in the Dev forums here for awhile now.. Not sure what those extra steps and files are for in the thread you linked.

Try it. Seriously, go into your browser and open up a flash site, let me know if it works... it carried over for me with the OTA, though flash hasn't worked for me since. Also side loading it doesn't help. Sure it gets installed, but that's all it is now. An installed icon in the app drawer. Clicking it and opening a browser for the settings gives me a blank page. Would be interesting to know if it actually works. I thought it did in the beginning, and proudly showed my friend he shouldn't be worried, flash still works. Then I realized I hadn't been on a flash site, and flash DOESN'T work. Oops

Yes, that works. I have Flash held over from the ICS to JB OTA upgrade.

Well, here's the same game on the same Site on my browser after sideloading flash:
I do remember seeming to think that flash WAS working for me right after the OTA, but since then I have flashed so many different roms and I had uninstalled flash somewhere along the process. Just tried sideloading it now and this is what showed up in the stock browser.
Anyone here have Flash working without carrying over thru the OTA? Just sideloading it?

It works well for me on JB (Eclipse ROM) and I side-loaded V11.1. I think someone already mentioned there is a 'flash-fetcher' on the market here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modaco.flashdownloader
If you want to be sure you're up to date I think that gets it from Adobe, but I'm not sure, and haven't used that app. I'm able to use flash in the stock JB browser and also in Dolphin, and like everyone, not in Chrome. I'll give you site a try because I don't really use it much but I know it works.
Good luck.
I though that JB had terrible battery, isn't that a reason not to upgrade

Sure wish they'd add a flash plugin... Been using Xscope now for a few weeks and probably won't go back to Chrome. I like using just 1 browser so I know where everything is at.
edit: Just tried the update. It doesn't "feel" much different. Xscope seems a little faster to me. I had been using Firefox, but Xscope and Chrome open pages MUCH faster.

Only thing about that one, when i import bookmarks, it dont put them in folders as they are in stock browser, any way to get around that ?
I use maxthon. The interface is awesome.

On pa switching the chrome layout to the 300 setting gives it the phone look which IMO works a bit smoother and looks nice too, tried that with the aosp browser and it forced closed so I grabbed a browser from a gnex cm10 ROM applied the 300 layout settings and it worked, so basically turning the aosp browser and chrome to phone format in pa looks nice and seems to work a bit smoother imo

Ya I went ahead and uninstalled it. Extracted again to install. No force close now just no swype. Its nicer if swype just doesn't work rather than having it force close. No plan on moving away from stock anytime soon. My N4 is for flashing custom ROMs.

They've changed many things on the tablet version like swype between pages and the quick reply option . I think they're focusing more on the phone version since it's alot popular ... I'm still not supporting the Dev till they give those features back .

I thought it was ugly and less functional too, I tried to mess with DPI settings using PA to see if it would switch to phone UI but that didn't work.
So I figured they are probably separate apps, I backed up my phone version with titanium backup and put those files in my tablets titanium backup folder, restored it and it worked.
Backup your tapatalk app on your phone, stick them in your tablets titanium backup folder, restore the app and you will have the phone version on your tablet!
It's the latest version, but play store will try and get you to update the app to the tablet version so turn off auto update for this app if you have that switched on.

Here is the link to the 3 files to put in your titanium backup folder on your tablet -
drive. google .com/folderview?id=0B9qAgU8kdxG7RVo0Q1daU0xLN0U&usp=sharing
(copy and take out spaces before and after google, also on browsers for some reason there is a space between sharing, take that out too. I can't post links yet...)

Thanks! I thought I was just crazy.
Couldn't get your files to work BTW, they didn't show up at all within the Drive app, and when I downloaded them from the browser it made the filenames go all wonky. Ended up easier to just move my own backup.
Plus this way my accounts were setup already.
Nevertheless, thank you for figuring this out.

Weird, I've removed the link now and just told people to get their own copy, glad it worked for you
I'm still using Tapatalk 2 works great for me....I see no reason to get "4"....
I also agree the interface in the new one is horrible....
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The new interface is pretty good if you go Dark mode.
The tablet version of Tapatalk 4 is really crap though, just made a titaniumbackup of it on my Nexus 4 and installed it on the N7 and its back to phone version again, which works a lot better on the 7" screen. I assume the tablet version of Tapatalk 4 focuses on the 10+" size too much
What the heck are you guys talking about? Tapatalk 4 is optimized for tablets with no dpi changes on my N7 and there is a search feature

In portrait it does look like crap. Half the screen is used by the left side menu and can't be swiped away like most android-compliant apps allow

Yeah well try, it looks utterly awful. ^^
Yeah it's the portrait UI that is the issue here, and personally I always use my nexus 7 in portrait unless of course I'm watching a video or playing a game.
It seems that most apps with a tablet UI option will display that in landscape on the nexus 7 and use the phone UI in portrait (e.g. Reddit Flow/Falcon Pro).
That would be a pretty nice compromise but I don't see it happening seeing as they are completely separate apps for the tablet/phone :/
Another reason I put the phone app on my tablet is swiping between pages instead of having to use the button at the top, it's just easier.
Thing that people tend to forget or just don't know about is that Tapatalk 4 for tablet is just Tapatalk hd but packed along the Tapatalk 4 phone edition which is why it looks so ugly for some and just correct for the others . Me too I'm finding a way to get the phone version working. I'll try the tb solution mentioned earlier, hope it'll works!

I have a sgs3 and enjoy the phone UI of Tapatalk 4. However I recently changed to Android 4.3 and now it's asking me to update Tapatalk but whenever I so it gives me the tablet UI version. I suspect it's something to do with the rom, maybe the roms build.prop identifying itself as a tablet but I'm not sure. Anyone have any idea what the Google store looks at to decide what app to give your phone? My build.prop shows the correct phone version everywhere I've found.
Sorry for this semi on/off topic post.

Works for me. Only gripe I have with it is that when I go to the "Google Experience" launcher, the keyboard pops up. Everything else works like a charm!

Glad to know I'm not alone!
GUYS! the new home launcher is sooooo smooth, i have some problems with it opening keyboard but it will be fixed when the "real" version is released ofc. BUT DAMN SO SMOOTH!! it really rendering the UI just like next 3d launcher doing. Awesome.
BTW guys, download greenify so you can hibernate all apps you have downloaded, my nexus 7 now is smoother than ever, and it's using around 250-300mbit ram
Did anyone tried this apps on 10" tablets? 1280x800 res
Will try later but would love to know if I can install these on my TF300T. It should since the res is the same as Nexus 7
So I tried this on an AOSP ROM I am running on my EVO LTE and everything works perfect except the clock (wouldn't install) and I didn't try the calculator. The launcher works perfect and so does the keyboard and I never see the keyboard pop up on this new launcher when I press the home button. Its flawless.
Going to install this stuff on my Nexus 7 when I get home.
Hmmm, are links broken for anybody else?

No I just got them. Try it in browser.
Sent from a haunted carbon image of an EVO LTE
Installed the launcher on a 4.3 AOSP ROM on my Jewel. Doesn't show as an option, only in the 'manage apps' list. Tried installing as a user app, and pushing to system/app. I clear all defaults, and hit the home key and it just isn't an option. Am I missing something here?

Did you install Google search?
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
I didn't. I'm guessing that's required? Installing now
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
I am not sure but it did not work until I installed search. I installed all of them lol. Well calculator and clock did not work. I ended up uninstalling them was nice but did not work flawlessly for me.
