HTC Desire HD not getting ICS. Does this bode well for us? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Thoughts? I'm thinking we won't get it because of the 768mb of ram.

source on that?

Bad source information, from what's been discussed in other threads.
Have a look in the HTC Desire HD section and read the hubbub there.
So far as I can see there is no truth to this rumor. Mods are working overtime killing all the threads about it.
-CM7 on DInc2

I doubt we'll be affected since the Incredible S and the Chinese version of our phone already got ICS.
But this is Verizon, so I guess there is a ever so slight possibility of our phone not getting the update.
If this does happen, then..... Well, I'd rather not discuss it.

All the more reason for us to get worried. Similar to Telus, it is possible that VZW screws us over and says, sorry, NO OTA ICS for you, just because we couldn't make it work with all our god damn, useless and pointless bloatware... Which no one in the world uses.. Toodles. And oh, therefore no kernel source

Read the update, HTC has cancel the update for Desire HD
* After extensive testing, we’ve determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD. I don't think anyone's giving prizes for the first post. I am glad that this was posted here also because I don't always hover around android 2.2 thread but mostly on desire thread.
Can anyone shed some light... does this mean that Froyo is final, and can we owners of Desire flash it on our devices (ok, no sense, I can live without it for a while)?
I would like this too I'm not bothered about sense. Is someone gonna try making a Rom?

Dopey features, there is a massive 2.2 thread in the DESIRE section. Look above this!

HTC releases Desire Gingerbread kernel source code

http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Good news for anyone involved with tinkering around with software for the venerable HTC Desire. In accordance with open source rules, HTC has just released the kernel source code for the device's Gingerbread update, which was offered as an optional RUU for GSM Desires back in August. The move follows the release of a slew of other source code for more recent devices over the weekend, and should help out anyone involved with the lively Desire custom ROM scene.

Ask Verizon Wireless why no JB update

I would like everyone who is interested in seeing an official build of Jellybean for the GNex sooner rather than later to ask them what the hold-up is on all of their social media. If we can pressure them nicely using a public forum, then we might see it before 2013. Just a thought.

On one hand it can't hurt, on the other it never seems to help either. I would advise to get on a custom ROM if you can't wait. That said, I have contacted them on all 3 social media sites already.
Edit: If you post on fb, you may get a reply like this..
I would like to see Jelly Bean on my Nexus as well! We do not have a date at this time for Jelly Bean, but once available, we'll announce it here & you'll see details on vzw.com/support. ^MSF

Or maybe they aren't even testing a "OTA ROM" to even begin with. A company should have better communication to their customers with upcoming updates.
As a Verizon customer and been with them for years, I come to expect this.
and as a Nexus user, I don't care when Verizon releases it because there's plenty of custom ROMs for me.
I did say it would be probably September at the earliest before the Toro gets JB officially.
Well, I just installed Vicious 4.1.1 v1, and I no longer care. Best choice I've made all day Carry on!

The Verizon rep I just spoke to claims they have NOTHING to do with the update, that they come directly from Samsung and VZW doesn't touch it, test it, nothing. I don't believe that.
@adrynalyne can't wait to see what you can do with the Nexus 7.
Also, all I want is the jellybean radios. Sure jellybean would be nice, but the toro is aosp now so no need to really worry about that.

Time to start harassing VZW. Back in the days of the GalaxyS Fascinate, they pushed 2.2 pretty quickly after a day of spamming. Just saw that GNex was their best selling phone in quarter 2 - you think they would provide better support.

This phone is newer and has a longer life cycle.
If they updated our phones first...where would the motivation to upgrade be?
This is how big business works today. Ive studied various engineering cycles in different fields...you would be surprised how often planned obsolescence is used to encourage greater consumption.

That be the truth. I also think they pay close attention to the dev community and have taken note that those with the means, will pay any price to get the latest version of Android, even if that means a new phone at full retail cost..

If this does happen I'll be pleasantly surprised, but considering they've already pushed the official 4.3 update back a month, unless they skip that and go right for 4.4, then we won't get 4.4 in 90 days
