This phone is newer and has a longer life cycle.
If they updated our phones first...where would the motivation to upgrade be?
This is how big business works today. Ive studied various engineering cycles in different fields...you would be surprised how often planned obsolescence is used to encourage greater consumption.

That be the truth. I also think they pay close attention to the dev community and have taken note that those with the means, will pay any price to get the latest version of Android, even if that means a new phone at full retail cost..

Don't get me wrong... I'm well aware that controlling demand is their game.. but I mean really, its just silly at this point. The beautiful thing about open source is that its open... let the devs play!

theres not one out that's usable on an everyday level, and don't expect one for a couple weeks. gingerbread came out less than a week ago, and the code wasn't released till friday.

I agree with everyone who has said this so far.
Evervolv and OMGB are actually pretty good ROMs right now; the *only* thing I'd complain about is that they get really, really hot during NORMAL usage (20 minutes of Internet browsing will jack your internal temperature up past 100 degrees). But, they're very fast and, oddly (given the heat issue), pretty good on battery life. Only real issues are GPS & camera but those will get hammered out probably before New Year's, if not soon after.
And of course, whenever the N1 gets the 2.3 OTA update, everyone will be in the Gingerbread business. So I'd just sit back, relax, and try some of the current GB ROMs, if only to prepare yourself for the awesomeness that will be the polished products of 2010/2011. XD

Why are some of the Inc dev's leaving XDA?

Ok. So i have been away from the form for a couple of weeks (family emergency) and I noticed that some of the dev's are packing up and going to different forums JoelZ9614, ihtfp69. What did I miss?
I'm kinda wondering that too tbh
devs should just ignore the crap and keep doing what they do.
Stuff like this makes me want to stay with CM even more. CM is my first love for custom ROMs and my favorite so far due to it's speed and features and open source model. Since they packed up quietly it just would make you speculate.
I like looking at the front page of Inc development to see what's new. We'll still be seeing new ROM on xda, just from fewer devs.

...What exactly has happened on XDA that we're unaware of? Other than some of the people who use roms being totally immature, they will just follow to the other forums and spam that up. What's the point?

Bad source information, from what's been discussed in other threads.
Have a look in the HTC Desire HD section and read the hubbub there.
So far as I can see there is no truth to this rumor. Mods are working overtime killing all the threads about it.

I doubt we'll be affected since the Incredible S and the Chinese version of our phone already got ICS.
But this is Verizon, so I guess there is a ever so slight possibility of our phone not getting the update.
If this does happen, then..... Well, I'd rather not discuss it.

All the more reason for us to get worried. Similar to Telus, it is possible that VZW screws us over and says, sorry, NO OTA ICS for you, just because we couldn't make it work with all our god damn, useless and pointless bloatware... Dude you should learn to accept different opinions otherwise life gets boring. There is no need u to become cyankgenmod's lawyer because they do not need one. The facts regard my first post and you like it or not that is the truth. Sammy sold 20 million units of this device. Go to the international forum of the s3 and lets say you find 2000 users on that forum. Now do the math, how many percent of the overall share are these users? And that is what i am telling you even if theh stop supporting the galaxy still sammy does not get hurt at all. I said cyanogenmod was great two years ago when the android os was not so developed but now they lack ots of features. And i can give you many examples of what features they lack. Camera?svoice?smart stay? Etc etc. What are your arguments other than attacking me and not the points i make? I do not use most of those features sammy included this time but still that can make somebody think well maybe this cyanogenmod is getting lil bit behind. That is not an attack to cyanogenmod cuz i currently am using codename rom and it is great but for most part of those 20million gs3 owners cyanogenmod is not seen as u see it=god.
Sent from my SGH-T999

I can agree with the statements regarding "missing features" when comparing CM to TW. There are some things that TW has that are very nice, and become features you start to depend on as part of a great user experience.
However, CM10 has allowed me to run Jelly Bean as a reliable DD and use Google Now which completely changes the game for me. Yes, TW will update soon but the point is Cm did it already. That's just a small piece of the picture - CM has provided us with support for our phones for YEARS, and are a HUGE driving force in the Android community.
I think it would be wise for CM to start looking at adding more unique features to their builds, things TW doesn't have. But can they compete with Samsung on the highest level? Maybe.. maybe not. Samsung has really stepped it up with TW, and I applaud them for that. However I am a big fan of Android and this whole Tizen move that Samsung is doing really irritates me. Samsung is just like any other conglomerate, they want to hold all the cards when everything is said and done. Which means they have to eliminate Android to build their OWN ecosystem, and don't think they aren't. Samsung has their own movies to sell. They don't want you buying them from the Play Store.
I'm not too fond of Samsung's long term goals. They do make some of the best phones in the world, no doubt about that.. but I am an Android fan, a Google fan, first.
Which is why I see myself back on a Nexus at some point in the future.. probably whatever the best Nexus is after I get sick of the Note 2 (hey, I DID say they make some great phones..)
But losing CM support would definitely suck.. however I can't say I blame them

There are multiple posts scattered here and there that hint/speculate that an exploit has been found and the devs are waiting on 4.3.
If you don't want to wait then send your phone off for S-Off, but please don't rush the devs. The exploit will come when it comes.
Can we lock this yet?
Just hold on tight, it will be here soon!
There is an exploit floating around, but it needs work.

I am not allowed to say, but trust me; and exploit is being worked on.
Alright thanks for the info.!

There are multiple posts scattered here and there that hint/speculate that an exploit has been found and the devs are waiting on 4.3.

The OP is not rushing the devs, he's just curious if they are getting close.

Yea but in all reality there are multiple threads about this... A simple search would provide the answers.

Why would DEVs who are in a race to get a bounty TELL anyone how far they are?

Exactly why bounties are a horrible idea IMHO. Donating for people's efforts is one thing, but bounties are almost always counterproductive unless someone already has an exploit that they don't want to burn.
Its so funny after leaving iOS for my Gnex almost 2 years ago, I never thought I would be reading about "burning exploits" and "waiting for updates to release tools".
Oh well, the good thing about Android is, even "locked down" android is still amazing! The sexy hardware and looks of the phone take the sting out of waiting also haha

Why? Not "burning" exploits is a damn good idea. What happens when, lets say, the exploit was released now and then HTC took an extra week to patch it? Like getting insurance or warranty replacements? Too bad we wasted the exploit. Look what happened with the DNA and 2.04. It is literally the best idea to wait until the OTA comes out. This way, the majority of users get s-off and HTC will have a harder time patching it.

i remember picking the dna up in april and it immediatly took the update for 2.04 then it took the 2.06 one. only a couple months went by and they came out with moonshine on linux then a window's version came out. i returned my phone back to stock to get 4g back and then i used the window's way. it is great to wait for the ota like you said so many more android's can get unlocked or s-off!!! :good:

I think you misunderstood me. I was just making the comparison from iOS to carrier locked Android.
I completely understand why and how this is all done, but thanks for explaining to those that don't

Welcome to VZW asshattery, it's amazing how the AT&T and TMo owners don't have to deal with this nonsense

Of course, but at least there is a ready unlock solution, hopefully the devs will figure out the VZW obstacle soon
