HTC releases Desire Gingerbread kernel source code - Desire General

http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Good news for anyone involved with tinkering around with software for the venerable HTC Desire. In accordance with open source rules, HTC has just released the kernel source code for the device's Gingerbread update, which was offered as an optional RUU for GSM Desires back in August. The move follows the release of a slew of other source code for more recent devices over the weekend, and should help out anyone involved with the lively Desire custom ROM scene.

Wohoo! How good is this?

haven't we had this for months?

I was thinking the same why hasn't any one made a post about it and I thought it would be in General section.
Aren't our devs already aware that gingerbread kernel for desire has been released sometime in Mid October along with few other kernels.

some people on this forum are to ignorant for their own good, jeez.

This is beyond crazy.

And people wonder what drives actual developers away from the android development forum. This thread would have disappeared long ago if no one felt the need to answer something funny to the OP.

Blah Blah Blah

i'm afraid androidcentral was the culprit for this though...

It is quite a big deal, because this is the source code which means we can get better roms with less bugs on our desires.

I don't think anyone's giving prizes for the first post. I am glad that this was posted here also because I don't always hover around android 2.2 thread but mostly on desire thread.
Can anyone shed some light... does this mean that Froyo is final, and can we owners of Desire flash it on our devices (ok, no sense, I can live without it for a while)?
I would like this too I'm not bothered about sense. Is someone gonna try making a Rom?

Cool guys thanks
It just needs someone with compiling knowledge
I have not got around to trying it, but i may get time later tonight...
The first thing is to see if the kernel is different between the g2 and the z, if not, we can pretty much use everything that the g2 is using... I think there will be minor differences though, but just speculating at the moment

I've just seen this thread. I've just posted the recompiled module on

gosh it's annoying that XDA won't allow me to post URLs. You'll need to cut and paste and remove the nasty space.

I'm starting to think it'd be a better idea to have one 'Gingerbread/2.3/OTA' thread that has all the info in it and hopefully stop a hundred posts of the same question..
we still haven't a clue when it's coming out but I personally can't see it happening this weekend - but I'm sure when it's out it'll be all over here
Haven't 3 already 'delayed' this 'release' a few times since March? it'll more than likely happen again and next week they'll see the end of June
no update yet. they say due to bugs they cancelled update for following days. they are not giving a certain time for the update.

Bad source information, from what's been discussed in other threads.
Have a look in the HTC Desire HD section and read the hubbub there.
So far as I can see there is no truth to this rumor. Mods are working overtime killing all the threads about it.
-CM7 on DInc2
I doubt we'll be affected since the Incredible S and the Chinese version of our phone already got ICS.
But this is Verizon, so I guess there is a ever so slight possibility of our phone not getting the update.
If this does happen, then..... Well, I'd rather not discuss it.

All the more reason for us to get worried. Similar to Telus, it is possible that VZW screws us over and says, sorry, NO OTA ICS for you, just because we couldn't make it work with all our god damn, useless and pointless bloatware... Which no one in the world uses.. Toodles. And oh, therefore no kernel source

Read the update, HTC has cancel the update for Desire HD

Why isn't CM10 ready for One X?

I was just wondering..... Why is there such a delay with Official CM10 being ready for our device yet there are many varients of it in the One X dev thread?
Also, why can't i boot into a Nightly version of CM10 on my one x?
See below for my specs!
....more importantly, it's been two years since you joined XDA and why haven't you learnt to post Questions in the Q&A ...

Steven: Oh shoot, then it is abundant?!
Derrick: A bun it is for where art thou

And I thought the thread with the Nightly WAS the official cm10 by tbalden? wrong?

I think he knows that there is CM10 available for the HOX, as he said there are many variants. He is inquiring as why there is no official rom or official CM10. I honestly thought the tbalden version was the official one, though.
Either way, you could wait for the Domination rom to be ready(owain, very talented guy and has been working hard before releasing ). It has stuff from CM, AOKP and P.A(this one i'm not so sure about though) and the last version of the rom was awesome. :good:
edit:
the rom is 90% ready from what I was told and should be ready soon enough

First, mind your language. Secondly, I'm surprised someone who spends his time in the dev section asks this kind of question. CM10 source is out there. There is no official one. Anyone can come along and compile it. What OFFICIAL means is that CM supports it. UNOFFICIAL is for devices who aren't meant to get the port but they did. Thirdly, posting a question in the general section and complaining about getting trolled is like throwing stones at a beehive and asking why you got stung...lastly, I know QuantumFoam. If you think this is us being sarcastic pricks, you haven't even seen us trying. I end my rant.
