Delete APNs? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hello
I was wondering if there is a way to delete the default "PTA" APN?
My Att account does not have LTE, don't really need or want it. I have a grandfathered unlimited plan.
However, since plugging in my SIM to the Ion I keep geting the nag messages from ATT. "Add an eligible Plan" "you don't have the right LTE plan" etc.
I think if I just switch APNs to the HSDPA I should be fine. I have added the APN, but the Ion won't let me delete the default PTA APN.
Any ideas?

Go to mobile network setting> Acess point name > Menu and add new APN

Thanks, I have the NEW APN, my problem is the Phone won't let me delete the Default one. All the options are greyed out and there is no menu options available, so I can't delete

You realize you can change to the LTE plan from the unlimited data and keep unlimited right. Doesn't change the cost at all (as long as its a real smartphone unlimited not the medianet)
Sent from my LT28at using Tapatalk 2

Also the International firmware might work better since it won't include any apn settings when you set it IP first.

No didn't realize that! I always avoided LTE since I was afraid to lose my unlimited. Maybe I should just call ATT then!

OK i know this is slightly off topic but Spectre i feel like you might have an answer for me on this one. And we are sort of talking about Unlimited Data.
Ok here's the scenario i've been on unlimited smart phone plan forever... and i can prove that by looking at my bill. (p.s. i'm an added line to my parents plan)
now last year i left america and went overseas for a while.. i wasn't sure how long i'd be gone. when i get back i turn my old phone on *line was never canceled as it would have cost them some ridiculous 300$ ETF* and went about my daily business. now prior to me leaving the country i lived alone out in the sticks and constantly relied on my smartphone and unlimited plan. i tethered all the time (*using a rooted custom ROM*) i donwloaded all the time.. i played ps3 over ATT network all the time... they never said a thing... When i moved back to USA i moved back in with the folks because i was screwed financially at that point. since they had great internet and wifi i rarely used my data on my phone except when i was out and about watching you tube what not... never got big into streaming though so i guess i never really used all that much... LONGER story short i got a text yesterday saying i had used 65% of my 2GB limit! wtf! the ONLY thing i can think of is that for the first time ever i used pretty much data only to stream from google music on a long drive..... as the ION was so new i hadn't yet put anything on my SD card.... well i go and look at the bill and what do you know they aren't kidding they had switched me without notification to a completely diff plan when i got back from europe... so my question after all this drivel *(agian sorry for that)* DO i have grounds to go in and ***** up a storm till they put me back on my grandfathered unlimited plan? i personally feel this is outrageous.

Absolutely I would go in and raise hell. They didn't notify you or send you any warnings that you would be changed. You didn't cancel your account at any time there should be no reason they switched you . Complain and keep escalating the issue.

So I called them. Had to call 2 times. The 1st time the person kept trying to upgrade my phone no matter how many times I said I already had it. The fact that I bought it 3rd party completely confused them. So I called back. Then, as Spectre said (thanks) they just switched my plan to LTE.
I don't understdand the difference. If the SIM and phone were capable all along what is the point of the magic switch to change plans? There was no change in charge and I still have unlimited. Weird, but I can't complain.
Thanks again for the help!

BTW LTE is CRAZY fast. I have never used it before. I think it's stronger than my wifi signal in my home.

GREAT! Good to know u think they are crazy too. PS. If I go into my local store and work my way up to a manager. Who do I go to After that if he wont help. I've already been given the go ahead by my dad to threaten them with taking our service elsewhere. We have had this contract for 14 years. And never missed or been late with a single payment. I feel like if I show up with print outs of the bill both before and after there isn't much they can argue right? My dad is the type to not check and just pay the damn bill. Just lost both my grandfathers in the last two years he's been pretty stressed. Which is why he wants me to go in and deal with this.
I hope they try and argue cuz ill make a stink they wont forget.

Make sure its a corporate store and not a franchise. If the manager there won't help tell them to get the district manager on the phone or just call AT&T and immediately ask for a supervisor.

Is your sim card in the ion setup through att for LTE? I believe you can only use the PTA apn if your sim is provisioned for LTE.

Yes it LTE ready and when insert in iphone 5 I got the LTE instead of 4G. Denver just got the LTE this week.

Touch Pro 2 with T-mobile questions....

Ok I had a question before deciding on which Touch Pro 2 to get. This question is mainly toward T-Mobile users but I''m sure others will be able to answer this as well...
I was looking at the Touch Pro 2 and since I am on T-mobile I had a few questions. Tried digging aroudn but couldn't find it so if it has already been asked/answered, if you could link me that'd be great.... but...
1) Can any other variation of the Touch Pro 2 be able to use T-Mobiles 3G band. I've heard yes, and no so I was looking for clarification.
2) If I were to get a Touch Pro 2 from T-Mobile will they make me have data? (similar to the G1). AND if I don't get it and decide to just keep my T-Zones, will it work or would they force me off.
I don't browse that often but I like to keep my T-zones as I tether it to my other cheapo 3G phone for use when ever I need it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
1. Nope. All the other version of the TP2 do not have the 1700/2100 band needed to run on T-Mobile's 3G.
2. Not sure about that, might want to ask them.
1) I'm not 100% sure but I think it's no.
2) Yes, TMo requires a data plan with this phone. If you buy it from another source you should be able to put your SIM card in and use without data or with an existing cheap data plan. There is always the potential that TMo could look at the MEID and realize what you are doing and force the PDA data plan.
Another possibility is to look at the phone at Neweg.com. I noticed that it was for sale with new contracts and it appeared that Newegg was not requiring the data plan at purchase. I don't know if that has changed or if TMo could pull a "gotcha" after you have already bought it.

The $24.95 data plan is the minimum required data plan for the TP2. This is clearly stated on the website; also if you call CS, like I did to but mine, they'll state it too.

I recently had asked what would happen if I were to just put my sim in "my friends touch pro 2" and they said I would be able to use it. I also asked if my data plan would change they said they wouldn't change anything, but instead render that part of the phone unusable until the right plan was added on. So technically I would be able to use the phone and possibly browse the web, but if the browsing the web was an issue, it would stop working and the only way to fix it would be to change my data plan. So so far, so good...

wow i love how they lie to you to try to get you to upgrade your data plan
If you got the unbranded tp2, you might be able to get away with the $5.99 tzones. I would be very surprised if they block data with the tmo tp2 if using the $5.99 or $10.00 data plan. When i went from the g1 to the dash, it asked me to switch data plans and would not allow data. When i went back to the g1, it did it again. Worked for about an hour until i got the "Upgrade subscription" page.
When I first got the phone, the store rep let me keep my 5.99 TZones for a while, I just had to change from epc.tmobile.com to wap.voicestream.com in my settings. Then, my data plan automatically changed to the 24.99 service, in which I called a rep and had them change it back, since I said I don't really do that much web browsing hehe.

woke up today and tried checking the weather...couldnt get a connection. Then used opera and it said i needed a subscription upgrade. Is this the end of the 5.99 tzone? Im running the energy rom and had no problem until this morning. I really hope its a data/network hiccup and resume back to the way it was...soon!
I also tried using wap.voicestream.com and epc.tmobile.com with no luck.

The $5.99 plan is not for smartphones. You'll need the normal data plan for the TP2. It normally connects through internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com. wap.voicestream.com is used for MMS.
I'm getting the same subscription upgrade required message. I have been using the $5.99 data plan for about three years on my smartphone just fine until today. Like the OP, I tried all available APN settings to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions?

Look up one post. I just provided the answer. It doesn't matter how long you've been using it. T-Mobile is changing the data access policies. You can no longer connect to the Internet on your TP2 with the $5.99 plan. You need to either use a non-smartphone device, or upgrade your plan. There is no way around it.

I talked to T-Mobile Blackberry/PDA Support or Tier 2/3 to some others. Most of us remember about this time last year they doing something similar to what they did Tuesday. Talking to TMBS, earlier in the day they were killing T-Mobile Web aka Unlimited T-Zones to Smartphones. I talked to another guy this evening that said the same thing with one caveat...which I asked what about those of us who have grandfathered data plans?
He looked over our account codes...whatever that means and he made the observation that the instructions for our SIM cards were erased in regards to our data plan which he said he put the instructions back. I was on the horn with him at the same time our internet came back up through no editing of our network connections, so I have no idea what to think.
I don't know if what was done today was a prelude to the introduction of Windows Phone 7 devices starting next month. I'm told T-Mobile will introduce 3 Windows Phone 7 devices for the upcoming holiday season - HTC Mozart aka HD3/7...take your pick, a LG and Samsung variation. Assuming they don't toy with our internet plans as they currently are I have to believe it will be a repeat of the Touch Pro 2 and HD2 Leo. You buy the device retail you can stay on T-Mobile Web.
All that said, I couldn't tell you whether it's all script or the truth.

Can't download SMS/MMS photos

Hi all,
I have a rooted LG Nitro and have never been able to download and/or open attached photos from friends/family. I can put the same sim card into a HTC Inspire 4G, Iphone 3GS, Iphone 4 and easily see the pictures in the body of the message. I have hard reset, tried apps like go sms pro, handcent, and copied over the APNs from the Inspire phone and other threads here. Nothing has worked. Anybody else have this problem? I'm in the SF Bay Area.
Thanks.
Two things:
1. The Nitro has a special data package that AT&T needs to update your line with. Make sure your account has the correct IMEI and the LTE data package.
2. Make sure you're using the "pta" apn. For whatever reason, I've found that "phone" doesn't play nice with MMS on the Nitro; I recommend resetting your APN.
You were right on. I guess I may have to give up my grandfathered iphone unlimited package.. Thanks much.
good news, you don't have to give up your unlimited data! You are "grandfathered" in with unlimited data, and you are allowed to keep that, even with LTE plans.

Yeah, never ever give up your grandfathered data plan! Only do that if you are switching carriers. If AT&T tells u to let go of your grandfathered plan in place of LTE, tell them they are lying and you want your unlimited LTE plan!
Exactly! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't keep the unlimited plan. "IPhone plan" was a bull**** name they put on it. It was simply a data plan and I've used my same SIM card from my iPhone 3GS in two different LTE phones without issue.

Wow, awesome info I didn't know. Especially since I would have stupidly signed up for the 5GB since its the only discounted "new" plan offered through my FAN account. Thanks all.
Did you ever figure out how to resolve this?

VZW SMS service unreliable.

So a few weeks ago I have to call VZW because others were not receiving the majority of the SMS and mms messages I sent. A day later they called and said it had been fixed and it shown happen again. Well now its about two weeks later and its happening again. I really don't feel like being on the phone for hours again repeating the same thing over and over. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I really am tempted to just switch carriers even if I lose unlimited data. I feel like the ETF should be waived since I'm not receiving the service I should be.

I have the opposite experience...
I have a Femtocell here at the house and when ever I send a text while I'm at home it actually gets sent two or three times. Annoying. I'm just grateful I haven't texted anyone by mistake with NSFW comments.
maybe try using google voice for a while? it uses data to send texts and since you have unlimited data you should give it a go until verizon fixes things and make sure to call them to get credit for that too
Did you try getting a new SIM? Does it only occur in a single area? Have you tried different phones/ROMS/kernels/radios?

It occurs everywhere I go haven't been able to pinpoint a single area. I was 50 miles from home last time it happened and they "fixed" it but it still happens here and at home. Haven't tried a new SIM cause I figured that would be the next step. I don't have another LTE phone to try and if I go back to my Fascinate my unlimited data plan will be removed from my account. It initially happened on Liquid 1.3 but before I called them I went back to complete stock 4.0.2 and radios and it was happening multiple times as I was talking to her on the phone.
Good luck getting out of your ETF after one tech support call.

Verizon is so bad I'm almost willing to pay to get away from them. If I call them again and they "fix" it again and I continue to have the issue, I will do my best to make sure that the ETF is waived since I'm not receiving the service I signed up for under contract. I have very little time to be on the phone with these people for hours at a time and this texting issue isn't something that I can just act like it's not a big deal.

I love VZW, I guess it all depends on where you live. I had a similar horrible experience with At&t (who I hate): long story short, I received multiples of every text for months. Not just a few, but 20-100 of every text, and I couldn't send/receive any others while it was happening. I spent 20+ hours on the phone with them and went through 3 sim cards before I left their lame asses for VZW and never looked back. They did wave my ETF, but it was very well documented over a looooong period of time I was having the issues and everything I/we tried to make it work. I swear thats the short story lol. I seriously doubt they would have waved it had I just defaulted the contract after the first call. But I agree with you, its worth paying the ETF to get the service you need! I am just surprised you are having problems with VZW since all my friends and I LOVE them - they are the ONLY carrier to have reception/data everywhere in north Alabama.

Same here except that I had the bad experiences with Sprint and came to VZW.
IMHO I think most of the network problems right now are due to upgrades. Seems like wherever they are rolling out LTE there are problems during the process.
Moral of the story is that for any 2 random carriers X and Y, you'll always be able to find someone who's pissed off at X and moved to Y, then someone who had a bad experience at Y and moved to X. There are so many variables you really can't paint two situations the same.

I would agree with the upgrade statement, I was told they were upgrading several towers in my area. However, it certainly wasn't to LTE. At&t has mostly Edge data in my area and the towers were being upgraded to 3G - or so I was told.

VZW and AT&T are definitely having growing pains expanding their LTE networks.

Are you running 4.0.4 and are you also having trouble receiving texts / you receive multiple text messages all at once? That would be a 4.0.4 issue, as well as sometimes missing calls from people / getting voicemails with no indication of an actual call. Going back to 4.0.3 unfortunately fixed these issues for me.

This is true. But I think in any given geographical area there is a clear "better" carrier. At least I know there is a clear winner in my area, and I was one of the last of my group of friends to switch - I was holding out on the GSM networks to step their game up, but they failed to.
i was having MMS issues here. The issue was fixed when I manually entered the APN configuration (im using Go SMS which allows you to change these in Settings > MMS Settings > APN Configuration).
For verizon, just add "H T T P : / /mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" to MMSC setting.

Gophone att lets you get LTE data with their unlimited talk/txt/2gbs of data for 60. callingmart gets it down to 52. extra data is 10 bucks for 1gb!(optional if you need it)
Also you can use any att phone(including iphone 5) no jailbreaking or changing apn, everything will work out the gate!!! Go to corporate att store and get your sims for free! also have any issues you can go to the att store for help!
customer service is a million times better, and i got my s3 replaced through att cause it still had a year warranty through att. I bought the phone used of craigslist, and it stop charging after a month!
Also please note you dont get unlimited data with straight talk. while its cheap BUT with them turning off data for no reason, not telling people what the data limit is, horrible cs, As soon as i found out gophone was allowing ANY phone they sell on postpaid on prepaid(including iphone 5) AND allowing LTE data. i switched!!!!

You are correct sir! U only get about 2 gb a month with straight talk before u are throttled, happens to me every time at about my last week of service, and it is very annoying!! I will definitely be checking into this, but on another note, IPhone? Really??? I wouldn't take one if they were giving them away!! Hahaha...

While you are right, I live no where near LTE so it doesn't bother me. And I don't call at&t for customer service anyway. They are useless there too. But gives people options. I'm still going for cheapest.

Yea i have a iphone 4s as a backup phone. As i was using it as a example because with st, you have to jailbreak to have mms, but with gophone everything works out the gate! which is a positive because alot of people may not want to tweak with their phone to get simple things to work. And what sold me was the warranty claim i got and im on prepaid! While i dont call customer service ever, it nice to know and a piece of mind that i HAVE cs when i need it. and with my area having lte it was a no brainer, and the fact that i can blow my data in a day if i wanted to. you pay for what your getting and KNOW what to except. i got throttled on st because one day i use over 100mb and some days later i get throttled to a useless speed that i cant do anything data wise without being around some wifi on my phone. The only thing st has going for it is it price, but for me and after tax with st, im paying 2-4 dollars more a month but im getting so much more in return!
I've had ST for a while now & I like the service. It's $90/mo after taxes for my 2 phones ( mine & my wife's ) since we pay $42.50/mo w/ the autopay discount deal they had @ the time.
No CS? No problem. I've had AT&T since 2000 until I moved to ST last year. AT&T's CS wasn't very good @ all... it took 3 days of the 5th degree & 3 "senior" techs to finally diagnose one of my phones as non-working... @ this was w/ a family plan that ran us $170/mo after taxes.
The other thing was the removal of my grandfathered plan of unlimited data + 1500 texts for $40/mo when I bought my GS3.
So.. $42.50/mo w/ 2 gigs of data ( throttled after ), unlimited talk & unlimited text is just fine for us. The Iowa City, Ia area doesn't have LTE & I can barely get stable 3G out here; so I'm not concerned about the loss of LTE.
I work at Walmart and we stopped carrying the straight talk/net ten carry over package because they don't sell and from what I've been told the only way to buy straight talk att sims was Amazon or eBay since st didn't sell them anymore. So don't expect to walk into wall mart and buy the sim, they don't do that anymore.
Just looked at the straight talk sight and they do have are "compatible" sims so now I can tell people to go buy it online and leave me alone 14.99 for a sim 45$ "unlimited" everything you'll be paying 63.59$ USD your first go round. In new York at least. Home to 8% sales tax
Don't expect 4g or to be able to use a 4g phone easily. From what st customer service told us is on iphones especially most features don't work, for instance MMS only works from one iPhone to another something im sure you could fix in the APN settings

Anyone on straight talk have to change their APN recently? I refilled the other night before my service ended at midnight, and I lost data. Next day, still nothing! Had to call customer service, and after about 30 minutes of garbage she had me switch my APN from wap.tracfone to att.mvno. Data came back?? I've uses wap.tracfone for a year with no issues!!!

If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? Do you use YouTube? What are your typical speeds? Can you stream with no problems? Stories differ so much from person to person, I just want to make sure all questions are answered if I use this. I have the option of doing the family mobile deal with Walmart and getting an employee discount, which brings the monthly down to like $25, but as its T-Mobile I'll have to do one of the mods to be able to use it. I'm not ever in an area of LTE so I really don't care about that. I just want to make sure streaming (music, video, YouTube) is allowed with straighttalk. Also, if I take my number with me that I've had for 10 years and then find its not for me, do I lose my number?
