HTC planning to bring Jelly Bean to a selection of phones - HTC One V

HTC planning to bring Jelly Bean to a selection of phones sometime down the line
We’re not the least bit surprised by the statement we’ve just received from HTC regarding upgrades to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. They’ve expressed their excitement in the upgrade’s arrival and are now evaluating the upgrade to see which phones they will end up pushing them out to.
I think it’s a safe assumption that all the HTC Hero devices will get the upgrade, and a few others might soon have the opportunity to get in on it, as well. But that’s all we know for now: they’re planning on bringing the upgrade to some devices. Let’s hope things come around sooner rather than later.
"We are excited about Android Jelly Bean and are planning to support it across a variety of our devices.* We are reviewing the software to determine our upgrade plans and schedule, so please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans."

Lol what ALL HTC HERO DEVICES....lol.....OK..

All i know is that HTCrap will not support our model. That's how market works. They will support only top models and a few other ones and they will also release some new fancy phones running JB.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but we all can guess that JB for One V will not come as an official support...

HTC would NEVER Release a device and not updte it to a newer OS. Yes we have had a few minor updates but nothing big only fixes and so on. We will get the JB update. Look at HTC track record. They update ALL devices. I cannot see them releasing a device only to provide (( fixes updates )) they shall release a new build for us soon which in this case will be JB. If you have a diff opinion then thats your right but thats what i think and i would even go about betting cash on it

Well the wildfire s shipped with gingerbread 2.3 and guess what, it never recieved any other version.
So i wouldn't hold my breath, although i hope it comes.

hey m8,nice to see you here...JB shouldn´t be that big of a deal for them to release, its not a huge version jump...its more like our GB went from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5...so yeah, lets wait and see(fingers crossed)

It's buried in HERE
It's a prototype test Rom from HTC. ROM has watermark and tracking. Not supposed for public release.

If you mean the HTC official release, there's no guarantee of that.
There were leaked builds of 2.1 with Sense for the Hero more than 6 months before they actually started to release it.
Whilst I don't expect the Desire release to be too far away, I'm just pointing out that the existence of an almost feature complete 2.2 with Sense leaked build, doesn't necessarily mean that HTC will release the final soon (though they may of course!).
What does work in our favour at the moment is that the Desire/EVO/Incredible still look to be the flagship HTC Android phones for a few more months, whereas with the Hero HTC wanted to sell Nexus One's, Desires, and Legends and the delay looked very much like a cynical attempt to boost sales on the newer devices first.
Regards,
Dave
Wouldn't get your hopes up of anything soon

GB for Desire/Bravo with Sense 3.0

i just got response from htc regarding my question will GB update for Desire/Bravo contain Sense 3.0...this is what they sent me:
Thank you for contacting HTC.
In regards to your enquiry, kindly note that the 2.3 gingerbread upgrade has not been released for the Desire phone yet, but it will be relased soon.
kindly note that that the upgrade will include the new HTC Sense 3.0.
Wow! that's really great!
So they are suggesting that the leaked Rom was a very early test build and not close to final.hmm
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I highly doubt this.
If it would contain a Sense upgrade, it would be 2.1, but certainly not 3.0
First of all, the hardware of the Desire isnt capable of running Sense 3.0 without a bunch of hacks (see custom roms) and secondly, it would affect sales on their newer devices.
Also see:

I also find this highly unlikely.
Why would HTC want to update what is an end of life device with their latest sense version?
It doesn't make sense (excuse the pun).
From a commercial point of view, if they did that, they would be shooting themselves in the foot, and I don't think they are that stupid.

Imo they would be stupid if they do not provide updates. I will never buy a Samsung smartphone again just because of that...
Apple always provides latest updates for their phones and that is a good thing.

HTC is anything but stupid. Look at the way they market discriminate their products, adding and subtracting bits and pieces here and there. What they can't do is stop unofficial development, hence the upcoming invite to developers to contribute to making their products more "desirable".
Here's an idea: why pay for r & d when you can get it for free?
i just got another reply from HTC, it looks like they were to hasty with the first answer:
"In regards to your enquiry before, about the HTC sense version 3.0 with the 2.3 gingerbread update for the HTC Desire phone.
I do apologize for contacting you again, but I have just received an update from HTC, that the Desire phone will receive the 2.3 gingerbread upgrade/update soon. However unfortunately, there is no confirmation yet in regards whether the updated Desire phone will have the new sense version 3.0 or not.
I really do apologize for the inconvinience."
looks like the modders here on XDA will still have something to work on... but, fingers crossed....

Since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich earlier this week, HTC has been looking closely at the new OS’s features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. We’re a recognized industry leader in providing fast and consistent upgrades to our Android devices, and Ice Cream Sandwich will be no different.
Upgrades require a careful balance of hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance and usability, so please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio. Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible and we’ll be sharing details on specific devices and timing in the coming weeks!

I doubt there will be ICS for Desire but it's still great news as it will be easier to port it for Desire from Device with same resolution etc.

But yes it's nice with some kind of confirmation for those wanting sense ports, but a timeline would be even more appreciated.
Personally i'm gonna stick with aosp for now.
im not having a go at the op, but i cant understand why someone would post that htc are supporting ics, even if they werent, thanks to the brilliant devs we have for the desire, we'll be getting ics, and we already have an alpha build already.

I believe one of the main UI features of ICS is that you won't need Sense.

Huge number of people had already signed a petition on rmd-team.ru, and the petition had been sent.
However, I don't see any point in this - HTC WON'T upgrade Desire anymore. All our hopes to ICS (which are being fulfilled more and more) lie with fellow devs.

HTC can't release ICS for the Desire because Sense won't fit on the /system partition(they can't go hacking about like our devs can). Google wouldn't even release AOSP ICS for the Nexus One because it lacked space.

Exactly. HTC can't update the desire with ics, because all factory roms have to fit a devices internal partitions, which sense ics will never do (hell, they couldn't even do a proper gb release)
Instead of pointlessly hoping for an official release, help and support the devs that are already getting it working. Its the only way ics is ever being developed for the desire.

I don't think a company like HTC is incapable of making an update that could change the hboot and create a ext3/ext4 partition on an sd card and make it posibile to install ics with sense4 on the Desire. The thing is that it wouldn't be beneficial for them concidering that they are after all a company that "makes" devices. If they did that then neighter of us would even concider buying a new device than that would mean bancrupcy for them. The main purpose for any company is selling, wheater it's a real or virtual product and HTC produces phisical products not just the software that completes them.
They said initialy that the Desire isn't capable of running GB never the less a version with Sense on it... after that they said that no mater what it can't run ICS... and in that light how many of us can tell them wrong.
In a final saying, it's just down to the devs like Sandvold or Shaky or any of them on XDA and not to create a rom that shows them that there are other people that have a reputation that is earned through hard work and our endless apreciation and deepest respect.

Why are you taking side of manufacturer ?
We are customers, we paid good money to buy a device which should get updated for a couple of years.........specially Android as it is open source.....
See Linux, Ubuntu, Firefox do they charge for updates......
Heck, take APPLE for example, i heard they still give updates for 3g which was released quite a while ago......
I'm not saying your wrong, but why are you thinking from HTC standpoint? They already have too much profit margins......people will still buy new phones even if old ones get updated.........
For example, you can still run the latest windows and apps on a Pentium4 HT even though ITS STONE AGED......see my point? People haven't stopped buying core i7 due to it.......
Sent from outer space using RF transmitters
Guys you're forgetting the obvious here. HTC does not have to release ICS on the Desire because it is now older than 2 years from initial shipping. Also there's limitations on hardware such as low internal memory. Do not say SD ext as not everybody will understand the point of sd ext. With froyo the last proper ota ROM do not expect any proper updates in the future. Shaky is working on a 3.0 kernel so expect some major improvements when that is released.
If you really want ICS sell your desire and buy a 2nd hand nexus s.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Another point is: The least of users would even want to install an official update, because of hardware limitations (too few memory) it could never be an OTA. You all know that, without sd-ext our Desires are nearly unusable. And because of that it would be a download-and-use-at-your-own-risk-thing, as 2.3.3 was. I'd say that the 2.3.3 update was also installed mostly by experienced users, who'd also install a custom rom. So why even release one, if there's plenty of custom roms availible? HTC can use their manpower better. So stop complaining, buy a new phone or use any ICS rom.
BTW, we can call ourselves lucky that the desire even got so many updates. See for example some Motorola phones which are still stuck on 2.1. And that's not because of hardware, but the companies not willing to update. HTC is one of the better, as they still plan to upgrade some of the older devices.

Never took sides with anyone... because I am in comerce and trade I was just stating a personal opinion on a marketing policy. Besides the fact that I own a HTC product I have no other connection to them... so no need for me to take sides.
And as for linux, firefox, opera and all other "software" developers it makes sense to keep updating because their products only live on others hardware.
Never meant to offend anyone, sorry if I've left that impression.
As for an ICS OTA, even if it were to be released, after using custom ROMs for more than a year now and such a great experience I, personaly, wouldn't go back to stock.

Yeah. Maybe seems like the One V will get an official update to Jellybean "soon"
I'm going to be the resident Debbie Downer and suggest that HTC might not bother doing a JB upgrade for the HTC One V. On a hardware tier level, it is well behind the One S and One X (Snapdragon S4s or Tegra 3 chipsets, vs the Snapdragon S2 circa late 2010 in the One V).
The good news is that ICS to JB is nothing like GB to ICS. My understanding is that the only major driver change has been to audio (as a result of all the audio upgrades in JB). On my old Defy, they already have working JB builds, camera and all (this is on a device that never received an upgrade beyond Froyo), the only problem being audio. Given we already have ICS compatible libs, an unofficial JB solution will easily follow the first complete CM9 ROM.
So yeah, the JB hope for the One V lies in getting an AOSP ICS build running perfectly. The major challenge I suspect, once CM9 is done, would be getting the audio going in JB. Fingers crossed folks.
I've said it several times that One V will not get JB officially from HTC and everyone started laughing at me... everyone said that this phone is a Mid-Range phone and it will get the update - well, it is a mid range phone but HTC will not bother on working on a build for a phone that has such a low price. They only care about money so to be honest, the economy will work on they're favour. They will not give JB to One V, instead, they give it to One X and S since those phones are now the Elite ones, and after several months or next year when JB will be more mature, they will release new phones, Elite ones + Mid range ones with JB (just like the case with One S, X and V), "forcing" the consumer to buy a phone that has the latest and greatest Android version up to date.
More news from the horses mouth: HTC confirms Jelly Bean for One X, One S and One XL incoming
They obviously don't confirm the One V, but they left the door cracked:
“Please stay tuned for more updates regarding device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Jelly Bean” the company told us.

I'm assuming the One V is a loss leader of the One series. If they are taking this mid range phone and selling 10k a month, and only 2k of the new phones, which is going to demand more support and which is going to be more attractive with JB?
Your thinking is only going down one path rather than taking other variables into consideration.

The numbers weren't actual but just examples. The way I view the One V is budget and we know how much people love budget.
