I'm very pleased with froyo 2.2. And I know this is a hard question to answer but do you think gingerbread 3.0 will be a huge update with lots of new features and improvements or will it just a have a few updates like froyo.
It's gonna be huge... one of the biggest things the world has ever seen.
No, seriously... who should know how it's gonna be, when there aren't any information out yet.
Cheers

I meant your opinions.
As the name 3.0 says, you can assume that there will be major changes.
My opinion is that 3.0 will be a small update and only bring a couple of new features. Seeing as froyo only has a few new features and it took a while after 2.1 to be released. 3.0 is released by the end of the year. How could they possibly make a huge difference in a short period of time?
I'm hoping I'm wrong as I read somewhere Google said that the update will be that good we won't need HTC sense. Hope that's true.

when android version 3.0 is release is signals a massive change in the os, google have decided to make 2 branches of android there will be the android 2.X branch for low to mid end devices and the 3.X branch for top end devices and android tablets, its also going to be alot better looking, the whole android ui is getting a revamp

They've probably been working on Gingerbread since before they finished Froyo, and the fact that it's called 3.0 instead of 2.3 is significant.
Great stuff cant wait for it now.

Android 3.0 will have a facelift and yes a big one heard its going to be based on something like the gallery 3D app.
I recall reading that the rumours circulating about 3.0 are unreliable at best.

Do we really need it now? The only reason I'm using a Sense ROM at the moment is so that the FM Radio works. If it weren't for that I'd be using a vanilla ROM.

Without sense widgets I would be lost. I use most of them and the market alternatives just don't do it for me. I suppose it al depends on what the user needs.

I wonder if Desire will still be defined as a high end device by the end of the year. Would hate if I had to get a new phone to experience 3.0!
Crossing my fingers for legen-dary performance!
I would love to get better update system. Where google would be pushing os updates while htc, mto, se and so on would push their ui + their software updates only. Therefore there would be no fragmentation of the os.
I have a question : In future HTC will build ship rom with sense 3.0 for Dersire HD ? If you have information of Desire HD in next rom , please share . Thanks ALL .
Shouldn't this be in Q&A's.....
Hello.
From what I read everywhere on the net, HTC announced that the 3.0 Sense is not focused on DesireHD, and the reason is that the hardware is not powerful enough to maintain a good use of Sense. Apparently this would be true for single-core phones.
Arma.
It's well known from htc's Facebook page that they said they were looking at what Sense 3.0 features could be implemented into the DHD. Asking when or will the DHD ship with Sense is like asking how long is a piece of string. Most probably in the form of an update if at all.
I personally have more faith in dev's here on xda as they deliver what htc doesn't.

HTC might official make a DHD specific sense 3.0 based rom but since they are going to release the SDK for sense 3.0 you could expect near perfect rom's from our dev's

I personally think it's a business decision rather than a technical one. They need to push the sales of new flagship products, so it's very reasonable they add this feature only to newer ones.
As now many Sense 3.0 roms emerge, I don't think DHD is not powerful enough for it.

Probably not due to the fact they lied to us all and said "our devices will not be powerful enough to run sense 3.0"
which translates into, we are money grabbing bastards please buy a new phone.
i love the fact he spelt desire differently 3 times
Even if they release official sense 3.0 it will be working much better on custom roms + there are already custom roms with sense 3.0 =)
When , when , when , when
... sense 3.0 ...
At the beginning i was amazed of the stock rom of my dhd... Then i realised that there two million ways of getting connected to any not bothering me socialnetwork on the planet, only the one cool thing i wanted to use, was down due to maintenance every time i tried... HTCsensedotcom. I´m now on cm7 and i won`t go back to a sense Rom in the near future. I bet the DHD is powerful enough to run a 3.0 Sense Rom. Even on a simple desire it should run well with some optimisation, but htc doesn´t care that much, like ywliu said it's a business decision. Droping their own sales and spending menpower to optimize cool shiny new features for older devices?... nevermind
Hey!
Today, I was doing some surfing, and came across the Sense SDK/HTCdev page on the web. It's already been covered on the forums, however I think that there may be a slight hint there as to what the new Gingerbread ROM on the Desire will include:
http://www.htcdev.com/about/
If you look at the Desire in the greyish box down the page, you will clearly see the Sense UI running in the image is the new version that is found on the Gingerbread Sense devices.
This could be one of two things:
1. A little hint as to the features of the Gingerbread ROM
2. A mistake in the Photoshop department
I'm hoping it's number one, but IMHO I think it will turn out to be number two, what with the leaked HTC Asia ROM having the FroYo Sense UI... but anyhow, let's wait and see!
What do you think?
Thanks!
-Cameron
This seems like a photoshop mistake. They just fit in a screenshot of the Sense UI they got laying around and fit it in a press shot of the HTC Desire.
But.. (there's always a but)
It somehow would make sense that they upgraded the Sense version of the Desire to 2.1 (or something similar). In the leaked Asia builds, you could find some features that were only found on Sense 2.1 + every single phone in the Desire "family" is running 2.1.
Also, remember HTC saying that there wasn't enough internal space on the Desire for Gingerbread + Sense? Yeah well, those leaked Asia updates, they had Sense + GB, didn't they? And as far as I know, that ROM was about the same size as a FroYo stock ROM.
My guess is that they were slowly porting Sense 2.1 to the Desire, feature by feature and at some point, someone said "this is going to slow, we're having more issues than planned, this is going to cost us more money and time than we planned", so naturally, HTC pulled the plug, until the community went nuts and screamed rape and fire. Sooo, they're now settling for a dirty solution: ditch some apps from the system partition, which can be found on the market.
What I can't seem to think of is why they wouldn't stick with the regular Sense that we have right now, mixed with GB. It would've been easier and less time consuming.
This is just a sequence of thoughts that I have concerning this update, don't go believing me or telling me that I'm wrong, I'm just thinking out loud, sharing my perspective
Thanks for that. I'm hoping that you're wrong though, because I'd like to get Sense 2.1 without ports but that's me, greedy as always
HTC doesn't do "porting" as many of the dev's here on XDA do, they got the source code so they only need to compile a Sense 2.1 version for the HTC Desire Which was what I meant with porting.
I'm hoping for a Sense 2.1 update as well, since I like Sense 2.1 far more than Sense 3 (based on what I've seen, tried and read) but I'm not getting my hopes up.. Time will tell ^^
No, by ports I meant that the new Desire update wouldn't be ported, so there would be no incompatibilities. Hope thats what you meant just
Hi, i'm also hope that Desire will get sense 2.1, in Poland we sometimes say that "the hope is the mother of the stupid people" after translation of course but maybe this time it will be different ;p
BTW. Official ROM's are theoretically 100% bugfree, but practically may be different or devs are making better functionality ROM

@flavio.moringa - it's clear that we will not see sense 3.0 because it's reserved for Sensation / more expensive HTC models or newer models as it provides a logical marketing policy

Yeah... I can see that too. Most "real developer" have moved to other device section. What we have now that still in Desire development is Alex-V (still active) and Coolexe will show up once in a while. Droidzone stops developing ROMs due to job commitment. Well, I'm talking about the real developer for Sense not AOSP and real developer, not modders. Once both Alex-V and Coolexe stop developing for Desire, we can expect a dead end for Desire.
every phone has a shelf life . just wait for ur upgrade and hope that the dev community is as good/helpful as this one
Gotta expect it on a 2 yo device. when you see Runnymede AIO and RSK 6 it's hard to see how much further this thing can be pushed. It's already amazing what's possible compared with what HTC intended for it, but there comes a time...
Its normaly said the device is as good as its developers, but after being part of xda for such a long time i really belive the device is as good as its supporters..! and the more the supporters move towards new devices (Especially alot these days due to the end of 2 year contracts) the lesser is the need for any one to bring something new to the device because not many are interested in using it.
And as far as the developers are concerned alot of the dev's were first supporters who really learned to develop as a process to get something new to their own and everyones devices. Many of them dont take official classes to become dev's it just takes a willing supporter of the device n community to actually give in imp time and learn and try developing.
Buh anyways The HTC DESIRE was a great 2 year run, for its money, hardware and this community..! Thankx to All The Dev's for giving us way more than HTC could ever deliver. The Desire was truely a developer phone.. just hope we see the same support in a future device !
I will probably keep my desire for another 2 years. Here in the UK you get massive reductions in line rental if you do not upgrade with a new handset. Besides that I see nothing on the market that's worth upgrading for.
It's all just gimmicks with software bugs, at least my desire is finally at a stage where everything works as planned. I'm still a stock Rom user and by browsing this forum I can see lots of upgrade potential if I venture into the dark side (go rooted).
I don't know how it works elsewhere but here in the UK the average consumer is pretty clued up on phones and most will search the net for bugs before choosing a phone.
I know quite a few iPhone users who have not upgraded to 4s and have instead opted to stay with their current iPhones and benefit from cheaper line rental.
There is also a recession so that means people are looking to save money. Old desires from the UK get sent to new owners in 3rd world countries. Basically the desire is here for another 2 years easily so it makes sense for developers to stick with it.

Xda should have a Hall of Fame. First to get crowned the HTC Desire. Any one here from Desires introduction and still has it will know of all the Dev. work done over two tears. I will always hang onto mine too much of a classic to let go.
I also have an Evo 3d (not mine but owner hates it) SGS2 and Nexus One. My Desire is still my daily driver. Some of the best Devs have worked on the Desire and I still check here regularly. So to the Rom Devs, Themers, Modders and Contributors no matter how small the contribution it has been a terrific two years.
If I can single out Madmaxx for the Touch Recovery as the greatest piece of Tech to grace the Desire and Alpharev for S-Off. Just my opinion.
Of course everybody is moving. The HTC Desire is now > two years old. Thats the smartphone lifecycle I think. Dont unterstand me wrong, I absolutely love my desire because its such a reliable phone.
It's long dead. There is very little to no development on it right now. The things you see most on the development section nowadays are merely applied knowledge learned from 'true' development that happened a year or so ago. I see this section going to the legacy devices list pretty soon.
I can't see any problems here. There are loads of stable roms - cyanogen mod, oxygen, even moded or rooted senses, there is no need to spend time on an old device, when it already has reached it's maximum

The HD2 should be crowned first place, that's the phone that just won't die.
There are plenty of nice Roms in the Desire Section but as with my old phones, HTC Touch HD, HTC HD2 and now HTC Desire they all become old and newer phones come out. That is life. I am getting a new phone myself and looking into what is hot and got the most potential but I will still keep my Desire and hopefully look for new Roms like Sense 3.6 and Sense 4 and 100% working ICS Roms. The new phone will probably have ICS installed or upgraded but I still love Flashing new Roms just for sake of it, isnt that what we all love doing.
One thing for certain, the Desire will go down as one of the most remembered phones.
Desire and g1 best phones ever

CM 7.2 is coming.
ICS drivers from Qualcomm is also released, let's see if something catches fire soon enough
Also, the desire hardware is kinda limited after 2 years of development.
I've only had my Desire for a year now, and moved to a custom ROM about half a year ago (InsertCoin 2.3.3) once my hunger for apps started giving me storage issues.
Am now on Sandvold ICS and LOVE the UI and HWA speed. Unfortunately, the daily random crashes I'm experiencing mean that a bit more development is needed.
As long as ICS gets stable I'm happy.
The phone is two HTC generations old now, and over 2 years since it was released. I think ICS will be the last Android version to see the Desire.
Still, there is plenty of development going on for ICS in my opinion. A new version of CM9 was just released, Sandvold has his stock version, and a development thread for Sense 4.0 has just opened. There is probably a good 6 months worth of work left.
This was my first android and parting ways with it is going to be hard but yeah we have to move on some time. No new developments rom wise besides the ics and potential ics sense stuff...
I'd say the desire still got some steam left in him

To somewhat control the the masses of Jelly bean threads that are currently arising, I made this thread to collect all talk about it.

So here we have it, the galaxy nexus on JB. Incredibly smooth:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN3EXAFRxKQ , head over to the mini galaxy s 3 and the galaxy nexus comparison that begins at 3:50, you'll see how smooth the Nexus seems to be in comparison to the S3
I've got a question:
We all know the Sense itself is a bit of a power hog, not only the battery, but the interface as well. With all the changes implemented or the possibilities given to the developers with the introduction of Jelly Bean, is it in theory possible that we have an HTC Sense UI running as buttery smooth as the Galaxy Nexus's UI? Or are we all being hyped for nothing?
Even the browser experience on the Galaxy Nexus seems bad ass! If i recall correctly in the video i linked you to, zooms in and out of webpages without even the slightest bit of lag while the phone is loading. Not to mention scrolling on the page, simply incredible. This is something though that should be easily achievable on the One X. I'm just interested in the Sense UI atmm. It is beautiful but at the same time the stuttering gets on my nerves.
So, is the jelly bean RUU out yet for my phone? I really want it and hate that HTC take so long to get updates to us I mean this is the bestest phone in the whole world but HTC really suck by not making it as good as it could or should be in my dreams with the fast updates and the s-off with unlocked bootloader and exquisite camera that compresses too much but the phone is really awesome so can you tell me when the udpate will be on my phone????

I hope it gives us the buttery smooth experience on Sense that we are all believing in and not just a flop.
Haha! If that's indeed the case, than iphone has every reason to continue suing. Cause if anything ever set the iphone and android apart then it was smoothness Vs more possibilities (decent smoothness)
but it will turn out to be smoothness vs smoothness and more possibilies = Fatality.

Maybe XDA should do like on other techi forums, you can't access certain area's without having answered a few tech-based question... This would reduce the amount of "noobs which will never even try to learn/understand something...

This is a port of Jellybean, based off of the roms for the two nexus devices that were released yesterday. I'm working to add in all of the key features at the moment, and it's going pretty well, so you can probably expect to see some kind of Alpha release fairly soon.
It's based off the porting work done for CM9 for our phone in the topic here, with some help from randomblame in the #cyanogenmod-dev channel. (Thanks!)

I had this thought a while back.....
Sense is obviously HTC's standard in-house UI, but they also know that a lot of users would love to be able run the stock android UI.
Given the delay it take to integrate Sense with stock android. Wouldn't it be good of them to release a stock android version for those that would like to use it, whilst they are ironing out the integration issues.
That way if you want to use Jelly Bean sooner you can, or you can wait for the Sense overlay release.

They will never do this. Skinning android with Sense/TW/etc is their form of branding. They do have other options though: http://www.davejunia.com/2012/06/what-android-manufacturers-need-to-do/

That's actually a pretty good idea.... But then they get another excuse to delay the Sense release, which most of us don't care, but that will have all the kernel upgrades and what not, also they would never want to undermine the importance that they are putting on Sense as a marketing item... So let them do their bit of delayed development.... We can in the mean time, head to some ROM that already has the new 4.1 features like the one that I have posted above... If HTC releases something like this then people will start appreciating them rather than *****ing about performance issues as the stock ICS will be by default way smoother than SENSE...

The other benefit is the increase in user base.
IMO HTC phones, as far as build quality, are the best.
Android is often synonymous with the word choice. If HTC gave users the "choice" of being able to run the latest Android UI not long after the new Android UI is introduced, or to run Sense if that's what they prefer, surely they would increase Market Share/User Base.
New update coming soon to HOX? Including 3.1 kernel? New Android Jelly Bean? Dont you guys think that this sounds to good to be real (to be from HTC) :cyclops:
That's it. I've had it.

That's it. I've had it.
First HTC don't give me ICS with One X, their flagship device. And now, the delicious Jelly Bean comes out and I can't even use this. Wow, thanks HTC but I don't want to be stuck having Gingerbread all my life.

Lol you should be super happy you have a system higher than you think you had.
Lolz. Before someone thinks I am trolling..
I was just being sarcastic (/s).
Sorry about that. Thanked everyone who replied.
I LOVE MY ONE X
PS - An actual icecream sandwich wouldn't be too bad. Gotta solve the melting issues though. Jellybean is easier.
Can I ask a dim question? Will branded handsets get Jellybean the same time as non-branded ones, or will we have to wait longer as it goes through network testing?
