Hi all
Had the One X (from vodafone uk) for about 6 weeks now - fantastic phone and very happy until yesterday. The phone started doing this on Sunday afternoon and has become progressively worse over the last 24 hours.
Possibly unrelated but the issue first occurred after installing 6 app updates (astro file manager, dropbox, frontline commando and 3 others which escape me)
Display goes from "normal" to ultra low resolution. Seems to coincide with buttons becoming unresponsive (including power). Phone will often not display anything though I can here alerts as messages come in. If I hold in power button to turn phone off the back, menu and recent apps buttons flash briefly but phone display does not come back on.
I tried to link to some images from my public dropbox folder but don't have enough posts on here yet. Attazhed 7z file with png of the display going batsh1t.
Yesterday it was somewhat intermittent today its become progressively worse however. In between bursts of display oddity I managed to get the latest OTA updata from HTC/Vodafone installed 1.29.161.3 but problem persists. I've also done a factory reset to no avail.
Current versions if this is in any way useful:
Android version 4.0.3
HTC sense 4.0
kernel version 2.6.39.4-g1389c4c
I'm guessing as factory reset did not work and neither did the OTA update then I'm looking at hardware issue (GFX or CPU or mainboard?) and most likely back to Vodafone for repair. Just seeking advice if I'm on to the right likely issue here and if anyone else had same/similar issue in case a software update *could* resolve the issue.
Cheers
looks like hardware issue like not all of the data is being sent to the screen, did you drop it or something?
anyway send it back and get it repaired or replaced
this happened to one of my old desire, i dropped it hard and the screen went all low res and weird colours
RESOLVED: Changing resolution and power issues One X
Hi Mox, thanks for that, sort of confirms what I already suspected. Was just hoping a software update or similar could resolve rather than saying goodbye to the phone for 3 weeks while Vodafone sort it.
Don't remember dropping the phone (but I have kids).
Sorting out with Vodafone now. Thanks again.

I've seen a couple of people post on this issue but not many is facing it so i'm wondering if it's cause by a certain software? Or is this just another bug in the 2.1 and hopefully it gets fixed in 2.2
I've got the sound manager app installed to activate the vibration again once it stops. Usually it's for my SMS but over the last 2 days, even when i draw the unlock pattern, it does not vibrate anymore until i re-activate it using sound manager.
I've read that it could be the battery being weak but my batt was at some 65% so i'm guessing that is not the reason.
Anyone knows what maybe causing this vibration to stop issue? Maybe it's an application causing it....my only guess is "Handcent".
I've had this issue for the last month.
I've tried a few different things and usually it comes back, one way or another.
A few days ago I discovered something that leads me to start thinking I have a hardware fault. My vibration disappears almost daily now but the last 3/4 times it's gone I've done nothing except give the phone a light tap (light as in two fingers on the back of the unit) and the vibrate function has immediately returned.
I'm just guessing but it kinda looks to my untrained eye that it's a hardware issue on my handset - it may just be mine though.
Ha....if that is the case then you probably have a faulty hardware. No tapping is going to make mine vibrate until i launch Sound Manager to reset the vibration setting
I'm gonna contact HTC and get it sent back in the next few days for sure. I think I'd prefer it to be a hardware problem (fixable) than a non-descript software issue that may or may not be fixed at some point in the future.
Well I hope there's a permanent fix soon for you
mine always has some problem with the vibrate too...
Anyone any news? The vibration of my Desire is not stable, you clearly hear changes in the speed/power. I contacted HTC and wait for their answer.
For your information, it does always work and I am using Android 2.2.
My vibration works without sound manager on 2.2. I have even had the phone turn off due to low battery and the vibration works once the phone is back on charge

HTC told me to hard reset the device. I can not believe that a hardware issue is solved by software reset ?

Generally it's the first thing they think of to try, regardless of the fact it means you lose all your data.
Mine hasn't changed/failed since getting the phone in April (on its day of release)

That's what I think too. I will hard reset the device after my holiday and will take care of a backup myself. If this doesn't fix the issue I'll send it to HTC...
Bad Vibrations
I've noticed a problem recently, that I get vibration when the phone rings with an incoming call, or when I switch to vibration profile, and the handset also gives 'haptic feedback' when typing etc, but no longer vibrates when I receive text messages or emails, despite soft resetting, de- and re-selecting all the relevant options.
Running 2.1 on T-Mobile, can't tell you what software I've got on it as I stood on it and cracked/trashed the screen earlier today - phone still running, receives calls, seems to be receiving emails, but can't read anything at all on the screen.
On a side note, does anyone know how to get data off a running Desire with an unreadable screen?! I can't get it to sync with the PC Sync software because I can't get it into sync mode from the touchscreen menu
Phone is set up to backup to memory card, so I am now wondering if I can use that card in a replacement handset to restore my data to new phone?
Sorry for hijacking the thread a little! Ed
This is a post I found after searching for my issue regarding headphones volume problems. I couldn't find anything anywhere on the XDA Forums. Please see my response at the bottom, and any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Ok so I went ahead and upgraded my mobile with the OTA update that has showing on my mobile. I wanted to upgrade ASAP due to the fact that I have run out of space for apps on the internal memory and this upgrade will resolve it (apps can be moved to the SD card).
However I think I may have jumped the gun as now whenever I use headphones the volume is stuck at max and even when the phone software says the volume is silent it’s still blasting out! Unfortunately spotify doesn’t have an internal volume control at all so it’s a no go there too.
I’ve had a search on Google and it looks like people are not experiencing the exact same issue, however there are a lot with issues with the volume in some way or another.
Hopefully this will be fixed pretty quickly as it now makes the phone unusable as a media player and I have to go back to using my iPod.
UPDATE: After searching for a resolution to this and not coming across anything much I managed to find someone saying recessed headphone jacks are quite problematic. The Desire doesn’t actually have a recessed jack but I do use a silicon case that makes the jack a bit recessed. This has not been a problem before, but I thought I’d give it a go without the case. Low and behold the volume buttons seemed to be working fine. I thought this was a bit strange so out the case back on and what’s even stranger is that is still worked fine. Now I have no idea why this happened and to me it seems a bit strange that this would even cause it in the first place (I would assume that it would be lower in volume or only one channel). Unless of course I came across a bug that has a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of hitting. Anyway I’m glad it’s working now!!
My reply:
Hi, I'm having the exact same problem after doing the froyo update. I too searched everywhere but found nothing until now. Unfortunately removing my case doesn't resolve the issue. I thought it may have been ROM related issue, but after trying several different ones the problem still exists. The strange thing is this has only started happening over the last week but I've had froyo for 4 weeks now! Can anyone out there help me ???
I had the exact same issue on the OpenDesire ROM after I flashed a file. The headphone volume was deafening every time it was on with no way to turn it down. But my issue clearly started when I flashed the DSP Manager file floating around. When I switched back to a clean ROM, the issue was no longer there.
I also experienced the issue when I moved between ROMs and updates of ROMs without full wipes. Even when I moved from stock T-Mobile to stock HTC, I experienced the issue. The resolve was simply doing a full wipe.
On HTC 2.2 I don't have this issue at all, thankfully.

Now you come to mention it I did the DSM Flash Zip about a week ago after flashing LeeDrOiD V2.1a, so it looks like thats the cause. Is there a quick way around this ? i.e. uninstalling the DSM flash or will I have to Full Wipe? Many thanks BTW
Hi All,
I hope someone can help me on this one, I've had a good search of both this forum and the internet in general on a couple of occasions and not found anything that can help me with my specific problems.
I'm relatively new to Android, and am running a HTC One X on Orange UK, still locked and on Android version 4.0.3.
I've really been enjoying the phone (battery life excepted), but a couple of things have begun to Plague me over the last couple of days.
1) I've installed SwiftKey and a couple of months ago, a very intermittent bug started happening, where as soon as I entered a text field, the keyboard would appear as normal, and the keys would 'pop up' to show I'd hit them, I'd even get the haptic feedback, but nothing would be entered into the text field. This tended to happen without fail when I was trying to show off to iPhone-owning friends. For a month or two, this was a minor annoyance, sometimes, clearing the cache at settings>apps>all>HTC Sense would fix it, sometimes it required a reboot. However, I've just done my second reboot of the day - it's getting worse. It doesn't seem to be Swiftkey exclusive, as it's just happened to me with the Sense keyboard.
2) This is a new problem that has only cropped up since mid-last-week; The phone has started to lose WIFI connections. Connections that I know are there. My HOX will be telling me that my home router is out of range, when my nexus 7 (and my laptop, and my wife's iPad) are all happily working away on that connection whilst in the same room. I haven't done the squeeze test yet, but I'm pretty sure that it's not a loose connection as a reboot addresses the problem. The same problem occurs at work so I've ruled out my router (I restarted it for the first time in months anyway, but that hasn't stopped the problem).
The last reboot (the one that's prompted this post) took place because both issue happened at once. I've taken care of my HOX, it's faced no physical trauma, it's unrooted, I've only ever installed apps from Play store, Amazon and Humble Bundle. The phone really seems to be degenerating badly at the moment, and I'm wondering if this is down to a software upgrade. I'm wonderng this because I've noticed the phone warming up in my pocket quite a lot recently and the battery life has been worse than normal.
Any advice that anyone can offer would be much appreciated.
The wifi thing is the standard HOX fault, and it'll need to be repaired. Check out the monster thread on it.
Thanks Rusty,
I'm going to look into that tonight. I don't believe that it is a loose antenna, but I'll confirm.

Hi community,
I've been using my Htc one m8 (locked with Rogers) for a little over a year now with no issues. It's not rooted, running sense 6 android 5.0.1 for awhile.
All of a sudden several issues started creeping up: first double tap to wake up stopped working, and the shortcut to the camera (turning phone side ways and pressing volume down). Then the proximity sensor stopped working. later on i noticed that nfc wouldn't turn on and the phone didn't know if it was on landscape mode or portrait (making it an issue when viewing pictures or videos) and this were all in the lapse of 24hours.
so I factory reset it and it seemed to work for a couple of hours but then all the issues creeped back (NOT all at the same time). At this point I thought it was because of an app or my back up. SO factory reset it again and set up as new device but this time it didn't fix the issue at all .
After that I tried factory factory reset it a couple of more times with no success, tried having my phone fixed but I couldn't find a store in montreal that is willing to try and fix it (they all say if the open the phone they might wreak it ??!!)
Called htc they asking me to send the phone by mail for 100$ and then they'll tell me how much it cost to fix it.
As far as i know the phone didn't drop ! and has the latest updates
Can anyone help me? do you think flashin a rom will fix this or does it sound more like hardware issue?
I appreciate any help/tips you can give
thank you
Looks like you got not that much to lose. Try a different ROM.

Hi everyone, I had some strange behavior with my note 7 last night, it locked up for abou 10-15 seconds and then rebooted itself and got stuck in a bootloop, it looped through the first boot screen for around 10-15 cycles and eventually managed to boot up, I kept having random reboots and bootlooping for the next hour or so, I suspected it could be the stock browser as it seemed to be what I had open when most of the reboots occurred so I disabled it with EZ disabler, I haven't had any trouble since last night and I have re enabled the stock browser a day still don't seem to have any problems yet. I googled it and found that apparently a lot of people with the exynos variant are having similar issues, I read somewhere that it was the July date coded models that had the issue but mine is an August coded model, does anyone know anything about this?
Edit, its possible that downloading or updating apps might have something to do with it.
Mine does this and has been doing it since day 3 of my 10 days of having it.
What I'm gathered, any form of lag that corresponds with the vibration motor causes the reboot - so if you touch the back button one too many times or hitting the menu button; heck, sometimes it even just reboots when I'm scrolling in anything and there's some lag (both Chrome and stock browser as well as Whatsapp/Playstore).
I talked to my Telco and they said they'd replace as it's a clear defect but there's no stock unfortunately for an instant swap. I'm about to switch to the international XSA firmware (Currently on OPS Optus firmware) to see if that does anything since the XSA had a recent update relating to performance issues. If it is a defect it won't do anything and the best bet is to go into store and send it off while they order a new one.
Mine's begun to do it more frequently now. Sucks that this is the experience of a first time Note user :'(
