From reading various forums it seems the defy is a little flaky in build quality. I thought it may be an idea to collect on a thread who has had what repaired/replaced and by whom.
I had a bayer model 9 months, stopped powering up. Sent to carrier for repair, camera module changed to soc, repair failed in seven days, returned they replaced motherboard, on collection phone would not power on, sent back new battery added. Phone had constant reboot issues, so carrier replaced handset soc model.
This one reboots too:/

My speaker has just gone not the loudspeaker the other one gutted :-( has anyone else had this problem.
sent from my cyanogen mod 2.3.7 defy running at 1ghz and I absolutely love it
I have had my device replaced once with a bad rom flash and now once with a bad speaker buzz. Call T-Mobil up and after a lengthy process they will send you a new phone.
The earpiece is a common problem on this phone and seems to come from the milestone that had the same defect but is repairable on garanty and is not something that seems to happen alot. I also exploded the cpu but i am running at 1.3Ghz so this is possible.
Overal i dont get alot of repairs for this model and the earpiece is easy to change if you lost your garanty.
I dont find the phone cheep and in fact i have dropped it alot, put it in water, overclocked ,overheated it etc, etc and it has very well endured the abuse... so i find this phone much more of quality than alot of models out there.

A friend of mine also had a dead speaker. We just reflashed 2.1 and when it came back the speaker was repaired and they even updated to 2.2, which made reinstalling 2nd-init and CM7 even easier
I guess if you reflash your normal SBF with RSD-Lite, there should be no problem with warranty.
Well I have made a mistake to buy a refurbished Wildfire S and after a few days of use I have come to know that sometimes earphone speaker doesn't work. It does work occasionally but it randomly stops working in calls. There isn't any HTC authorized service center near my location. There is only one technician with good knowledge of mobile phones and he said its a faulty earphone speaker but I didn't allow him to take apart my phone to replace the speaker. In my opinion it can be a problem with the contacts of the speaker and I can take it apart to look into that but first I need help from you guys. I have tried to flash different ROMs including EQDKP and SpeedDroid and then back to stock but the problem occurs in each of them. My phone is S-OFF. What do you guys think?
Edit: I can hear the sound when I switch to loud speaker.

yeah but there is not other way around.you have to go where service center is near your city. just dont let any other shops to open your phone because they people dont know much and they might brick your phone too.

Yeah you are right but its too difficult for me to spare some time in weekdays as authorized service centers are closed on weekends. I was thinking to take it apart myself just to see whether there are some loose contacts.

yeah do what you think its right.but sometimes its just not working.you have to replace this part.good luck anyways.
Day before yesterday, I talked to the same local technician who told me that sometimes the problem occurs due to loose screws as the earpiece just touches the main board and is not connected by any solder etc. So I checked the upper two screws and found out that both were loose. So I tightened them and after that problem was gone. Earpiece is working good. I'll check it for one or two more days then update.

haha that sucks man.might you reallly check out your phone with htc guys.
i have very good cum bad experience with service center.
5 times PCB change,2 times display,1 time speakers and all,1 time UI buttons,3 times battery.
all things came up in warranty to thank god.or it ll cost me upto INR 30,000+
but last time when i changed my PCB then after i flashed around 200+ times still no problem.:good:
PS when you get free time go to service center our phone has deeper hardware than just bunch of loose wires.

You are right but I took the risk by replacing the earpiece from that local technician and now its working fine. It was very difficult for me to drive 3 hrs to islamabad (where HTC service center is located) and give them my phone to hear that they'll return it after one week. I'm praying now that it wont bother me again...
Hope so..
For me service center is near to my home around 5 kms..and great news is they wont see ur bootloader state..they just need stock rom with stock recovery.

Hi everyone,
i have a brand new galaxy grand which has not been used yet. i had only rooted it as per chotu's method and everything was fine. today i realised that the rear speaker was not functional. by that i mean that i dont get ANY sounds even during boot-up or during shutdown. absolutely no system sounds or anything from the rear speakers. however if i plug in a headphone i can hear everything normally from the headphones. but when i remove them theres no sound. yes the earpiece is working...but there also when i switch to speaker phone during a call there is absolutely no sound.
as i said i had only rooted it as per chotu's method and everything was fine. then i received the official firmware update a few days back from samsung ie. AMCD. after which i lost root...no issues with that. however at this point i realised that there was an issue with the rear speaker. i have done almost everything described on this forum, like wiped cache etc, factory reset, removing battery for 10 mins, slightly pressing the battery to check if theres a lose connection, even flashed stock rom (AMCD) from sammobile...but to no avail.
checklist:
1. all sound levels to max.
2. phone not on vibrate or mute mode.
3. phone does not think that theres a headphone plugged in, otherwise there should have been a headphone icon in the notifications bar.
completely confused. what could happen to a few days old galaxy grand ?? guys pls help.
Thanks
Since it is only a few days old and now you are not rooted take it back to your dealer or ti samsung service for warranty repair. Dont forget to remove the custom status and the binary count as you have rooted before.

yes that is the last resort left. i am just hoping if someone could help me out and i dont have to take it to the service center.
i finally went to the samsung service center and deposited my phone with them. they have informed that the rear speaker is defective and will be replaced free of cost. hope everything goes fine.
Ok good luck. And if problem is resolved please put (SOLVED) on the title?
thanks. ok.
good news. today i got back my galaxy grand from the samsung service center. the rear speaker was faulty and was replaced with a new one for free of cost as it was under warranty.
Thanks everyone.

Thank Samsung, what we had done ?
Did you remove the 'custom status' and reset the 'binary counter' before going to the service center?
I am asking to make sure if Samsung guys really check that stuff or not.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
good question. yes i took care of all the 3 parameters. i made sure that Binary Count is at 0, Current Binary at Samsung Official and System Status as Official.
cant say with certainty whether they check the system status or not but i did not take chance.
hope this helps.
Hey XDA. So basically I'm having sound issues with the phone. Idk what the issue is. I sent it to Samsung twice already and they attempted a fix. First time they reset the phone and flashed it with the original software and firmware. Then their second attempt they replaced a sound piece to fix the issue. Now I'm sending it in for the third time. They mentioned on the phone that the warranty only covers repairs. I looked on their website for their warranty, and all I found was a warranty EXCLUSION. -_- Well that's stupid.
So basically my question is, does anyone know specifically what Samsung covers? I'm sure they've GOT to have a no lemon guarantee, but it seemed like they dodged my inquiry when I asked. I'm losing money and patience sending the phone in over and over. It's like playing catch with a $300 over 5 States distance.
Thanks for your wisdom everyone.

what kind of audio problems? all the galaxy nexus with stock rom suffer from low call audio (if you have the GNex with stock rom, you rabbit to move to a costum rom).

Naw son. My girlfriend has the phone right now and it's for her. It'd be easier for her to just use the phone as is. It's zero audio issue. No low call audio issues. Like even watching videos on youtube produce zero sound.
I was just put off when I asked Samsung about their warranty and I didn't get a straight answer from them. That's bull. -_-
Hi!
Loudspeaker on my sister`s phone isn`t working and i can`t take it to repair either, because phone wasn`t available for our region and was bought on ebay. Everything was fine and dandy for about two years and about two weeks ago loudspeaker just died and wasn`t working on any rom(so that`s only hardware related). I don`t want to change speaker, because it`s not my phone, but is it possible to use small speaker instead of loudspeaker?
