[SOLVED] Issue - No Sound From Rear Speaker! - Galaxy Grand Duos i9082 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi everyone,
i have a brand new galaxy grand which has not been used yet. i had only rooted it as per chotu's method and everything was fine. today i realised that the rear speaker was not functional. by that i mean that i dont get ANY sounds even during boot-up or during shutdown. absolutely no system sounds or anything from the rear speakers. however if i plug in a headphone i can hear everything normally from the headphones. but when i remove them theres no sound. yes the earpiece is working...but there also when i switch to speaker phone during a call there is absolutely no sound.
as i said i had only rooted it as per chotu's method and everything was fine. then i received the official firmware update a few days back from samsung ie. AMCD. after which i lost root...no issues with that. however at this point i realised that there was an issue with the rear speaker. i have done almost everything described on this forum, like wiped cache etc, factory reset, removing battery for 10 mins, slightly pressing the battery to check if theres a lose connection, even flashed stock rom (AMCD) from sammobile...but to no avail.
checklist:
1. all sound levels to max.
2. phone not on vibrate or mute mode.
3. phone does not think that theres a headphone plugged in, otherwise there should have been a headphone icon in the notifications bar.
completely confused. what could happen to a few days old galaxy grand ?? guys pls help.
Thanks

Since it is only a few days old and now you are not rooted take it back to your dealer or ti samsung service for warranty repair. Dont forget to remove the custom status and the binary count as you have rooted before.

yes that is the last resort left. i am just hoping if someone could help me out and i dont have to take it to the service center.

i finally went to the samsung service center and deposited my phone with them. they have informed that the rear speaker is defective and will be replaced free of cost. hope everything goes fine.

Ok good luck. And if problem is resolved please put (SOLVED) on the title?

thanks. ok.

good news. today i got back my galaxy grand from the samsung service center. the rear speaker was faulty and was replaced with a new one for free of cost as it was under warranty.
Thanks everyone.

Thank Samsung, what we had done ?

Did you remove the 'custom status' and reset the 'binary counter' before going to the service center?
I am asking to make sure if Samsung guys really check that stuff or not.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

good question. yes i took care of all the 3 parameters. i made sure that Binary Count is at 0, Current Binary at Samsung Official and System Status as Official.
cant say with certainty whether they check the system status or not but i did not take chance.
hope this helps.

[Q] Defective Microphone- Have had Nitro Since Launch, Now I am Not So Sure

Alright, this is very disconcerting, my faith in LG may be gone.
PREFACE:
I have had this phone since launch and have been on this forum since the day it was started. I have rooted, debloated, and changed launchers. I have no dislike for LG, so please do not call me a hater or a fanboy.
PROBLEM:
Starting a couple of days ago, during calls the person on the other end would only hear static and clicking. I finished the conversation through text. I called somebody else the next day and it worked fine. Today, I was talking to someone for about ten minutes then the static happened and I had to finish the conversation in text. Since the person I was talking to is a close family member I troubleshooted and kept calling them, and then a phone of one of one of my roommate's so that I could hear the problem first-hand. It sounds HORRIBLE. Since then I have used a voice recording app to test the problem.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
I have done the following to determine that this is indeed a hardware problem:
-Turned off all data
-Unlocked ALL "debloated" apps
-Restarted many times
-Put only the original battery in(I have two spare official batteries)
And the problem persists.
QUESTIONS:
-What should I expect will happen with the return/exchange process?
-My original battery has the pink water damage thing turned pink. This phone has never touched water, I think it happened because I have kept the battery in my wallet, which probably has gotten sweat on it. Will LG try to be a **** about this?
-Should I unroot and otherwise restore this phone to stock? If so, how do I do this?
-Is there anything else I should know?
-I need a phone to use, if I cut my SIM card to fit into my old iPhone 4, how will I get it back in?
Thank you, and if there is a possibility I could just return it I may. I LOVE this phone, but I have never had a microphone defect in any other phone I have ever owned. I am starting to wonder how such a large company like LG can allow something like this to happen, rightly so, I am very unsure of the longetivity and overall "completeness" of this phone.
The only other quick and easy thing I would suggest to narrow down the issue would be to try a wired or bluetooth headset.
It's pretty easy to find micro SIM adapters for sale online for 1 or 2 dollars.
I feel like I have some comforting responses to many of your concerns.
First of all, you should have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty against hardware defects. You should be covered.
They will most likely look for the water damage indicator on the battery, but if they are all official batteries then the store clerk won't know the difference. If it says LG on it then you're probably fine.
I saw an "unroot" option in SuperOneClick, but I cannot verify that it's functional for the Nitro. Yesterday was my first root ever. I would find a way to unroot it to be honest. Then do a hard reset and take it in.
As for the SIM going back to the iphone 4, it can be done. I just pulled my SIM and snapped a couple of pics to show you how to cut it and still use it. I didn't cut it myself, it was done by an ebay seller that reactivated my Unlimited Data plan and mailed me the card. He thought I had an iphone 4 so he cut it. I then told him I didn't have the iphone 4 so he set it back in and sent the whole card. It's worked in several phones since then.
I say if you love the Nitro then don't worry. AT&T should honor the manufacturer's 1 year warranty. I've never dealt with it so I don't know how they'll handle it, but they should take care of you.
Just a heads up, the battery is supposed to have pink + signs on it. When those bleed and the sticker is just an ugly mess of pink blotches, that's when it touched water. Not sure what yours looks like but I figured there may be a chance you are seeing the pink + signs and thinking you are screwed.

Thank you, what I was seeing was indeed the little pink crosses.
@gmkelly - thanks for the tip, I tried it out and my wired mic does work.
After unplugging the mic, I set it aside and when I checked again, the nitro's mic was working. I made a call and halfway through the issue started up again. Since then, I have replicated the issue multiple times using the recording app. The mic will work, and then usually stops working again after a few minutes of it being on, usually about 3.5 minutes. Thus the problem is intermittent, and I can replicate the problem for an AT&T rep.
What I really need to know is what to do about it being rooted.
EDIT: Dammit, I am having trouble replicating the problem now. Is there a chance that something in the headphone port is causing this. Ahh, I have a program to write for a C++ class and this is not a good time for this to be happening. Been recording now for 10 minutes and the mic is still working fine.
EDIT 2: Does anyone think showing a recording of the static to an AT&T rep be enough evidence? If anyone wants to hear some static you can get an earful here.

Oh btw, I recalled something an AT&T rep asked me when I was sending back the Atrix for an RMA. He didn't ask me to check the battery for water damage by looking at the pink crosses, he asked me to look for a white dot on the phone itself. The same white dot is on this phone. U can see it right above the middle screw to the right of the SD embossed sign. That white dot will change color (I forgot what color he said, maybe pink too) if the phone is water damaged.
I think nowadays the battery moisture indicator does not really apply anymore. At my job, we have tons of BB batteries that has indicators showing moisture damage but works perfectly fine. It's most likely just because the batteries get warm n moisture can build up by it.
Ok I'm sort of confused. Is this only happening with something plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack, or are you referring to the actual built in mic on the bottom of the phone?

OUCH!! I forgot to turned down the speakers n i got a bad shock!
anywho, do u have an at&t authorized repair/warranty center by where u live/work? I say bring your phone n recording over to them n show it to them, let them hear it n explain this happens sporadically. If u want, tell them u can call their phone there n let it sit for 10 minutes or so until it happens again. But just make sure it can be recreated in their presence though. Otherwise u should just call 611 (or is it 511...411?? ) talk with them n wait till it happens over the phone lol!
Ha, just figured out the "multi-quote" system.

Thanks, the Chicago Warranty center is a couple blocks from my work. It looks like I may be able to get "same-day, face-to-face warranty and technical support." This certainly is good news. And thanks for the info about the water damage indicator, white gold!
I guess my main concerns now are backing up and unrooting.
-I guess I will have to purchase titanium backup and go that route. Anything special I should know about backing up?
-As far as unrooting goes, I think I can recall seeing some post about it on this forum, I will have to go hunting. Are there any known successful methods?
EDIT: according to this thread, [email protected] says he has unrooted it. Thanks again for the help guys, I am starting to think this won't be such a PITA afterall.
Easiest way to unroot is to download superoneclick 2.3.3 and click the unroot button with usb debugging enabled on the phone. I have done it several times without fail.
Which method did you use to root it? I know in the SuperOneClick program there is an "Unroot" button.
use malninion's unbricking solution to unroot your phone and restore it to factory if you are concerned about a root getting in the way of an exchange and are unable to deroot. also, all exchanges of this phone under warranty are for refurbished units, LG policy.
Refurbs are fine if they still hold the 1 year warranty. Do you know the details?
if you are asking me, do I know the details of what?

The LG rep and the ATT rep I spoke with yesterday said the refurbs are better and they carry full warranty. I *thought* I heard the LG rep say our phone has a 6 month warranty, new or refurbed but it very well could be 1 year. Both reps said all refurbished phones are tested v. 10% of new phones are tested. Not sure how that makes a refurb better but that's all the details I was given re: the exchange policy.
Also, I went through the troubleshooting of mine on the phone with ATT, that agent issued a return authorization that I could have used locally by just bringing the phone in and getting a replacement. I got the impression that there would be no on-site attempt to fix my phone, just a visual inspection of the glass, case and water damage marks.
I was able to fix my phone so I didn't have to go through with it all.
Maybe it's 6 months on a new one. I think I heard 1 year, but I guess I'm not positive on that.
It does not matter which method you used to root your phone (doomlord or superoneclick), superoneclick can unroot the phone fine without restoring the phone via Mal's guide. I use doomlord to root and superoneclick to unroot on my phone.

Or, you can simply remove the super user icon from the app drawer and they won't even know the phone was ever rooted (unless they go into applications and search for it, which I HIGHLY doubt they will even bother). About backing up, how many apps do you have on your phone? Does it really matter if u have to reinstall them again? If it does, then get TiBu free edition n manually accept every reinstallation process.
As for contacts, sync them all to your gmail acc, n your emails should already be synced anyways. For sms/mms, get go sms pro (free) and it has the feature to backup your sms/mms to the phone which u can then back up to your computer.
Don't bother with restoring to factory settings, just hand the phone to them, removing any icons of apps that might indicate you are rooted.

[Q] How to factory reset for warranty exchange?

It seems the search function is down, so my apologies if this has been covered before. I scanned 5+ pages of the General forum and saw nothing answering my question.
So as the title says, I need to mail back my phone for warranty exchange. I've been rooted and running a custom ROM for quite some time, with most of my recent time spent on the various versions of LiteROM.
My question is, do I need to do anything outside of flashing the latest UCLJ3 stock ROM via odin? I did that last night (after a wipe through CWM), and it removed CWM and replaced it with the stock recovery. I needed to use the phone for another 12 hours before my new one arrives this afternoon, so I added my account and a couple apps, but before mailing it back I plan to do a factory reset (through the stock ROM) and tell it to format the internal SD. After that, is there any trace of my mods that might void the warranty? I greatly appreciate AT&T's program where you get the new phone first, then mail back your old one within 14 days. But I don't want to get an email or call in 2-3 weeks telling me they deemed my warranty void, and I need to return the new phone. Has anyone ever had a problem with warranty exchange after root or custom ROM?
The only thing that sorta worries me is when the phone is put into download mode (power plus vol up), it says:
-----
ODIN3 Download Mode
(Protocol v2.1)
Reason: Force Key
Secure mode: Secure
Check Signature: Check
Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Waiting USB Cable...
------
My concern is with "Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 counts)". Is this giving AT&T/Samsung evidence that I flashed a custom ROM, possibly voiding my warranty? Is there a way to reset that?
Thanks for any tips on the reset/warranty procedure.
Ive sent back 3 rooted phones, one running cm7 (moto backflip). They don't seem to care that much about root or even a custom Rom.

Good to know. I'm probably over-thinking it, just want to make sure. The guy on the phone from AT&T sure was easy to convince that I needed a new phone. I originally had battery issues (suddenly went from 75% to 5%), so he mailed me a brand-new battery overnight. That solved the battery issue, but I continued to have really bad GPS reception (see attachment, this was while standing outside on a clear day). The rep actually called me to see how my phone was after the battery was replaced, told him I was still having GPS problems, he ordered me a new phone without any questions. Should arrive at my desk at work any minute now...
You didnt have to through troubleshooting stuff? They have always done that for me and my family.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I figured I would have to jump through all sorts of hoops. All the guy asked me is if I had the latest version of ICS, and I said no (technically, I didn't, I was on LiteROM 0.6). He said once I get the new battery, do a software update, then check the GPS signal. When he called 2 days later to ask about the battery, all I said was that I updated to the latest ICS, and my GPS reception is still very poor. He asked nothing more, just initiated a new phone coming my way. Maybe they have a big push internally for better customer service, and if so, they definitely get my thumbs up.
Heck, a couple weeks ago I had an online chat with AT&T about the fact that I was missing my corporate discount on 2 of my lines. I had been overcharged about $70 over the course of 10 months. The person couldn't fix it online, so she asked me if they could call me, and a "discount specialist" spoke with me. She couldn't re-apply the discount over the phone (said I had to go into my local AT&T store), but immediately offered me a $250 "courtesy credit" for the inconvenience. Sounds good to me!
And the new beast has arrived. Showed up with no battery, sim or back cover. Also came running Android 2.3.6. Ah well, I'll have all that fixed soon.
Dang, in download mode, it says "Custom Binary Download: No (0 counts)".
Ah well, I'm sure it will be fine.
how is gps now after having the phone replaced and reflashed ?
Waaaay better. Locks my position very quickly, strength in GPS Test is much improved. Glad I swapped it out while under warranty. Now just to get the old one accepted without issue. Should be fine.
Back to loving my phone. Now to figure out a good case before this one gets dropped. That's where a slider is a pita, with a 2-piece case.

[Q] Note 2 Dead? SDS?

Hi Folks,
Stock Note II N-7100 (Received from O2 in October 2012). Had, previously, moved from the O2 branded firmware to stock week I received the phone. No water damage or anything, not dropped, phone has lived in a rubber case since new.
No issues since (v occasional random reboot, monthly maybe?).
Today, mid call, I was dropped, and the phone what I thought was rebooting on me (Samsung Galaxy Note II [white, non animated] logo popped up), but it stayed up, rather than moving through the animated logo to the OS.
Vol-Up + Home + Power won't take me to recovery (Vol-Down + Home + Power will take me to an ODIN flash screen).
Connecting a charger brings up the battery, a 'spinner' appears in that for a second, then freezes, battery icon never changes to the animated charging logo.
Does this sound like SDS? or something else? Is there anything to be done at home to recover? Or is it a hardware fault in which case I'll start the process of tracking down a service centre & dig out an old handset in the mean time.
Thanks all,
Gavin.

Sounds like Half SDS for me(in half SDS you can go only into Download mode) With what version of android was your phone 4.1.2 or 4.1.1 this information will be good for us, sorry for your phone try reflashing it with stock rom with ODIN and if the process fail go to the service center with your warranty but check in Download mod if the Binary count is 0 and everything says Stock, not Custom. Good luck mate.

Thanks,
Can't recall the version, tho I think 4.1.1? Whatever was avail in October. The in-phone thingy kept reporting 'no update' so hadn't moved on to anything further.
Download screen says:

CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
If that's any use (no sign of a counter).

They may remove your warranty for the System status its says custom, have you rooted the phone and from which country are you? You should have updated to 4.1.2 with odin the SDS is kinda fixed even thought there are still people with dead Note 2 with 4.1.2.

Hmm... believe I may have rooted right at the start for a reason related to the flashing a non-O2 ROM, though wasn't running a rooted phone since. I'm UK based.
Assuming ODIN will flash the phone (even if it won't, subsequently, work) would that reset the System status?

Sure I did that way back when.
dont worry about the "custom" part. it is known that SDS changes the status to custom so it doesn't matter at all. Send it to samsung and it should be repaired. then check if it have a new chip or an old one

Either way, if you're in the EU, rooting does not void warranty unless it can be proven that rooting is the direct cause of the problem.

As someone else said, try flashing a rom in odin before doing anything else. A stock system will reset the status to official. Triangle away is only needed to reset the count and usually doesn't reset the system status anyway.

Sadly, no go, due to lack of a PIT according to Odin.
Called Samsung, mail in with 2 week turn around, or walk in and should have it back in 2 days? Sound about right.
There's a Service Centre 10 mins from my office, so I shall walk it in there, but (rather annoyingly), am on a training course until Friday so I won't get along till then. Excellent timing! Still, walk in ought still be quicker than sending it away.
In the mean time, I have hauled out an old SE Arc S running ICS for the time being. Feels painfully slow & restricted (low memory) compared to the Note2!
Thanks for all your help guys.
So...
Walked the phone into the service centre (CRC - http://www.crclondon.co.uk/repairs/samsungrepairs) on Monday, who told me they'd need to send it up to their Level 3 centre, which would likely be a 7-10 day turn around.
Took a call from them today, claiming that as the phone had been rooted, they couldn't do it under warranty, and it would cost £120 to repair. I rather firmly mentioned the aforementioned EU regulation which, I understood, meant that nevertheless, the repair, unless caused by the root, ought still be covered under warranty. The chap was completely intractable, refused to pass me to a supervisor of any sort for further discussion, so I've told him to have it returned to their office and I would collect ASAP and deal with Samsung directly where I hoped to have a more satisfactory discussion.
Seems like it's likely to be back with them on Friday - I will probably collect on Monday and get it dispatched same day.
Wish I hadn't bothered waiting for the walk in centre now. The Sony Arc S I'm currently using is frustratingly slow by comparison with what I've become used to!
I think you were being too honest.
I got my note2 motherboard replaced last month. and since they coundnt tell whether i had rooted or not and samsung havent officially made any announcement about sds, i told them what i found on the net that the system status shown customs because the nand memory was corrupt and it couldnt read the product name nor system partition thereore it defaulted the system status to be custom.
As a further update, Samsung central help group pretty awful to deal with, and not resulting in a satisfactory resolution.
Was eventually promised a call back, finally got an email 4 days later basically telling me 'whatever our 3rd party service centre told you we will stand by, if you collect & send to us, we'll lookup their response and use that in communication with you..' 'If you want to challenge their assertion, you'll need to source a report from an independent assessor.'
So, from all this - Ultimately, I need the phone back in a reasonable timeframe, so I've asked the 3rd party service centre to effect the repair, and I'll pay their £120 bill. I have also told them that I want whatever components they replace (I'm told likely motherboard), and copies of their full engineers report containing details of the fault found, diagnosis of cause, and resolution steps - returned to me along with the device so that I retain any evidence I require for further discussions (getting them to agree to this was an awful task, as they initially quoted various recycling regulations).
Once it's back in hand, I'll then revert to Samsung again, and work my way up through the escalation queue.
Next phone, I suspect, won't be a Samsung device. Maybe Nexus.
Fun fun fun...

What's the warranty?

Hey XDA. So basically I'm having sound issues with the phone. Idk what the issue is. I sent it to Samsung twice already and they attempted a fix. First time they reset the phone and flashed it with the original software and firmware. Then their second attempt they replaced a sound piece to fix the issue. Now I'm sending it in for the third time. They mentioned on the phone that the warranty only covers repairs. I looked on their website for their warranty, and all I found was a warranty EXCLUSION. -_- Well that's stupid.
So basically my question is, does anyone know specifically what Samsung covers? I'm sure they've GOT to have a no lemon guarantee, but it seemed like they dodged my inquiry when I asked. I'm losing money and patience sending the phone in over and over. It's like playing catch with a $300 over 5 States distance.
Thanks for your wisdom everyone.

Naw son. My girlfriend has the phone right now and it's for her. It'd be easier for her to just use the phone as is. It's zero audio issue. No low call audio issues. Like even watching videos on youtube produce zero sound.
I was just put off when I asked Samsung about their warranty and I didn't get a straight answer from them. That's bull. -_-

Another attempt to bring Note 4 Back to life (ATT - Unlocked after contract was over)

So experts,
Currently I am on S7 but I do miss my Note 4.
After Marshmallow update it started lagging, shutting off etc.. all known problems. To fix it I downloaded wake lock app and it worked fine but drained battery a lot.
I tried to flash it through odin etc... (not a technical guy I am, followed instruction from one of the threads on this forum).. took all the files on SD Card and after that phone never turned on.
It does not charge, no LED lights when plugged in, none of the buttons are responsive. I have tried everything like new charger, usb cable, PC, new batteries etc...
1) Do you guys think It's hardware problem?
If No then,
2) Is it possible to fix it and how?
Please note: Phone does not turn on or recognized by PC. If it is just software problem then I am determined to fix it. I may need instruction for even very simple steps.
Thanks in advance to all!
Bump....
Anyone?
Sounds VERY similar to the problems I and others have had with hardware. I sent mine into repair, and for a flat $74 fee, Samsung reported errors with the charging circuit, main board, camera, etc. They replaced darn near everything on that phone, all for $74... Well worth it, in my estimation. Phone still performs better than today's $400 phones... Call samsung and they'll set you up. Had the phone back in under 10 days.

Oh ok. I better do that if it is getting resolved in $74. For some reason I am not able to adjust to Galaxy s7, been on it for 6 months now I guess.
I switched to cricket several months back, and have had relatively few issues until I downloaded an ad blocker. then I started having the freezing rebooting stuttering ect.
I tried to do a factory reset, and It got into a boot loop. Somehow I managed to get it booted properly clearing the cache.
I don't know why But it is almost like I somehow got new features after wiping. With s note, and a popup hitting the home button.
However
the freezing and reboot issues are still occurring. I had none of this till I downloaded the ad blocker.
Its currently on 6.0.1 baseband n910aucs2epk2 kernel 3.10.40-8932341 Build no mmb29m.n910aucs2epk2
can I try reinstalling the update, I haven't had one since switching to cricket. I assume I would have to instal it through sd card.
And When the second poster said to contact samsung for repair. Will they fix it if you aren't the original owner?
And specifically who am I looking to contact within samsung?
thanks

Don't know all the answers but I did contact Samsung. They have walk - in centers, just google it, contact the one which is near to you. You can either ship the phone to them or just walk in. I have not confirmed about the cost of repair yet!

Had word with Samsung repair and they said the max they charge is $199. Anything more than that is beyond economical value so they don't suggest to do it. visitng them this Saturday. Will update.

I visited Samsung walk in center today. In my case they refused to repair it saying that the issue is Motherboard (without even checking, but he seemed vary confident) and the repair cost is more than the price of new phone as of now. I tried to convince him to check at least. Disappointed I am, honestly! but this visit was like final nail in the coffin.
How did you convince them to do it all for just $74?
Call Samsung customer service, they've been great to me.

Samsung did fix it for $70. Phone looks fresh and new now! Great service. Thanks for your suggestion!!
Now I am confused between s7 and note 4. S7 has good features like finger print (very accurate) and samsung pay (brilliant) which is missing from Note4. But I may still switch to Note 4.

Call Samsung customer care instead of visiting the walk in center.
