[Q] New HTC One V Owner - HTC One V

Hi, first of all I'm new to this forum so hi
I'm also a new owner of HTC One V and my first attempt at Smart Phones and Android in general.
I've heard that HTC One Vs manufactured before May, have some kind of defects. Luckily, I managed to get my hands on a HT25 which is manufactured on May.
So far based on my research I should check my unit for the following:
Yellow Rings,
Wifi Signal,
Light leaks,
Volume Controls
Are there any that I missed? Are there anything that I should be careful of, like system update, etc. Are there anything I need to do to ensure that the unit I purchased is not defective?
*Also I forgot to include, should I invest in a screen protector for it? The store is offering a mat finish screen protector but I did not avail one because I want a sharper and higher contrast screen. Is the screen scratch resistant, is it doing well without a screen protector?
Thank you very much in advance.

1st of all welcome to the family mate
no u didn't missed anything
and yes investment in screen protector is must as to avoid clashes with keys and other harsh objects in ur pocket that can bring scratches to the screen
i alo recommend u to buy a case
so that if it falls u won't get a dent
-the 1st tym ul drop your mobile phone ul bang ur head thinking y did i nt purchased a cover soo as to avoid this situation i recommend you to purchase a cover
same goes with screen protectors
hope i answered all ua queries
dont just say thanks hit thanks if i helped

thanks for the quick response, I'll make sure to get my baby a case and screen protector.
However I'm having problems with regards to my mobile carrier. A "Limited Service, Emergency Calls Only" is shown. And when I manually connect to my mobile provider it says "Your Sim Card does not allow a connection to this network". But sometimes it does connect, and suddenly disconnects after some time randomly. Is this some kind of a defect? If so, I should return the unit because they have 3 days replacement. Thanks

is it a carrier locked phone? if soo i don't know anything about it coz we get only unlocked phones
dont just say thanks hit thanks if i helped

my bad turns out that the place where i'm charging the phone really has no signal. So far so good, I'm inspecting my phone from top to bottom. Fingers crossed, the symptoms are not showing up.
Last question is it recommended to upgrade my firmware to the latest (official)?
Thanks

Personnaly I found that mate ( non reflecting ) protectors become gray after time. The colors are more dull. The fingerprints are less showy but I prefer anyway a more transparent one. You might too, so you can better appreciate your screen's vibrant colors.

I would flash to latest firmwares personally. Although, if you're going to install a custom rom, let the developers do it for you in order to not brick your phone.

I ended up getting the matte finish as the screen protector, and I can say that I prefer the clearer one. It just happens that there's no clear one available atm. Regardless I can't stand the screen cover with the "HTC One V" sign in it.
Thanks for all the tips and answers. I'm loving my new HTC One V :good: Really great considering its price

[Q] Can they keep me on the contract with faulty phone??

Hi,
On the 5th of April I signed a 24-months contract with Three and got a HOX with it.
I've got this package from a Three Store (sadly....).
From day one I had coverage problem at home (and only around my block) serious enough for them to give me a free 28-days while they try to fix the situation in my area (central London, by the way).
Also, yesterday I heard/read that Three, very professionally, will just skip this 1.28 OTA upgrade (which could have improved the situation with my coverage problem).
As if this was not enough, I was reading about this "screen flex" problem that most of white HOXs have and how HTC said they will replace all these faulty handset.
Sure enough, my handset had this problem, so I went today at the store and asked for replacement; they had 4 models in store and ALL of them were more or less flawed!!!
I asked them what I should do and they said they would order new stock...
At this point I asked them, if also with the new batch of phones this problem persisted, if I could brake the contract and return the phone: the guy said "it cannot be done. The contract cannot be broken in any case". All I could do was take the black model.....
Now, I moved in the UK recently and I don't know exactly how these kind of disputes are handled in this country, but do you think this is normal?
I am having the worst service ever, several difficulties and the phone they sold me is faulty (not unusable, but HTC officially admitted it's a fault): can they really just say "We won't terminate your contract."??
In Italy in this case I would appeal to some kind of "Consumer agency" to ask for help, but here I don't know how to move.....
What do you suggest??
Should I just wait for the new batch of phones to arrive? What if that doesn't work either??
Thank you very much....
p.s. Too bad I discovered too late that the worst thing I could have done was buying the phone from a store and not online....I couldn't imagine that would have made any difference....
Unfirtunately contract cant be broken wen ure talking about screen fkex u dont just meanpressing the edge and gettin a rainbow effect do u? Because that isnt really a flaw

I am in fact talking about that issue, yes....
But if HTC admits it is a build flaw and they are ready to replace the handset (which is my understanding it's how things are), shouldn't that mean I can have a replacement or, if the problem doesn't get solved, a refund??
After all, this issue affects only white HOXs and on a per-handset basis...this looks like a build problem IMHO...

The UK Sale of Goods act will protect you if you can prove that the item isn't fit for purpose. I doubt the flex will be a basis to use it though

The actual.screen flex that Htc is refering to is some units shipped with permanent rainbow spots every device will have them iff pressed blackberrys is an example aswell i think forums have blown this out of proportion.who is actually going to press the sides of there screen?

What snowwhite007 said.
The way LCDs are designed means that if you apply pressure then you'll get distortion. It isn't a flaw in the screen or the phone. You need to push much harder than you would during normal operation for it to happen.
I understand....
Ok, well, I never said it would make my phone unusable...I was just worried that the screen would be weaker because of this issue....
However, we'll se how it goes in time!
Thanks for you answers
Three say that they are working on a newer than 1.28 version and will be released in May. (personally, I think its flannel, it really is the 1.28 version we have seen here but with their crap on it and are calling it something different to cover up the delay in getting it out. Call me cynical if you like, lol)
Anyway, the 1.28 will fix the connection problems, at least it has done on most peoples handsets that post on here.

At least they've said they're doing something. Orange have said nothing. :|
Tbh I can't see why people are considering the flex thing as an issue, like said above, try do that on any LCD tv, or monitor or LCD phone screen, it all does it, but would you return your tv because of that? No because that is how it is. My dhd did that when pushing stupidly hard on the screen, same as the one x, this is in no way a design flaw! It's people abusing their devices imo.

Apart from the "pressing screen for rainbow effect", are you guys having the same problem as me, wherein I can actually press the whole screen on the left hand side and the screen physically moves. It clicks in and out of the phone, as if to suggest its not fitted properly. Is this the same fault you guys have? I'm getting my 4th replacement tonight, really pissed off at the moment

Thats not normal. My screen doesn't move at all. It does sound like your screen wasn't fitted properly and it isn't clipping into the latches properly.

You can get back your HTC One X through your IMEI number just make a complaint about your lost phone to the police station or tell about your lost phone to the HTC. No matter if someone change your SIM card your phone can be located through your phone's IMEI number, you will definitely get it back.
Now about my HTC One V-
It's a great phone. There are NO Heating Problems too.. Wi-Fi works superbly and camera is excellent. The ONLY thing I didn't like is the options button which we had in the other phones... I'm an Android user from years and now it's a little bit difficult to have it in my mind that me phone doesn't has the options button and has the "Recent Apps" button instead. 1 more thing- The 1Ghz Single-Core processor works fine but it does get stuck or freezes for a second sometimes... However, people ask this question frequently- "How will I reboot/make my phone work again when it hangs completely?" HERE'S THE ANSWER- The Phone doesn't hang (at least I've not experienced such a situation on my One V...). It just stops for a second (SOMETIMES) and then it's alright. And I have NO Yellow spots too. Only the thing is that it's very necessary to get a scratch guard immediately as "I'm the ONE You've been waiting for" sticker has to be removed so that we can use the phone... It's also important to get a nice cover so that the great back metal body doesn't loose it's greatness.

gosh i miss Lee's Rom on the ONE X as it allows you to reconfigure the buttons... that stupid design by HTC seem to plague all ONE series phones...
Is there any good custom roms on One V which I can use?

My replacement phone is way worse than original!

Guys I need some suggestions. About 2 weeks ago I dropped my S3 and smashed the screen. So I used my insurance and ordered another one. I absolutely loved my S3 before......
But the new one that they sent me is absolutely slow and laggy and its driving me insane! Everything I do takes a tiny split second longer than normal, but after a while it gets very annoying. Especially since I know what a perfect working one feels like.
When I press the side button to unlock the phone, its laggy lighting up.
When I swype to unlock the phone, its laggy getting to the home screen.
When I hit the bottom home button, its laggy coming back.
You get my drift...
My original was super quick and snappy, and now this thing is driving me nuts.
What would you suggest that I do? Its been this way right out of the box.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Root it and install a custom ROM, most of them will make even a good device feel umpteen times better. If it's still running poorly after you've tried a few ROMs then box it back up and take it to a store or call the insurance company back and explain the problem.

Thanks, yea ive thought about rooting it. Ive just never rooted a phone before so I was hoping there was something I could do that was basic and might fix the problem.
It seems unlikely it's a hardware problem. I'd start with a factory reset and see it it's still laggy, then slowly install apps until you figure out what's slowing down the phone.
I'd guess something in the background is grabbing CPU cycles.
update?

Don't worry our president will let him out.
Just out of curiosity, did your replacement device look brand new...or did it look refurbished? They say you cant tell, however, i do know from experience that refurbished phones can show some damage. The reason i'm asking is because the Galaxy SIII is so new i would find it amazing that they already have refurbished devices to distribute on insurance claims. If it was brand new you would know. I would call sprint or your insurance provider and demand a new phone if the lag doesnt resolve itself. Sprint charges almost DOUBLE the price for insurance on the galaxy SIII compared to many other devices. I would be pissed if i didn't get a prefect SIII.
Also, I would strongly advise picking up an OtterBox case for your SIII, those things can keep your phone safe during a nuclear war.

If its refurbished it will have a sticker under the battery near the IMEI & S/N information with a date when it was refurbed... u can also look under ##786# under "reconditioned status"
I just got a replacement a few hours ago
U just hated those ink spots
My replacement I think it's new
I got it from best buy
The only problem I have is that the usb port is really square on the cover and kinda sharp too
Also on my box there's a sticker that says updated

HOX Screen broken? GPU or software?

Good day guys,
I've read a number of threads on this forum about HOX screen problems and never quite had any until a couple of days ago.
All of a sudden I started getting yellow and pink pixels all over my screen. I thought that this was just a software issue in the beginning so I rooted, formated, installed a custom rom, and no luck, still have the same problem with the screen.
There is a number of interesting facts about this problem:
1) I have this when I restart the phone, in the boot menu, in the clockwork recovery, you can see the edge of the pixels being pink or some other random color.
2) When I press down hard enough around the volume+ area the problem seems to go away.
I wonder where this is the GPU dying on me, or perhaps this has to do with the connectors that run to the screen?
The phone never fell, or had any major damage, I did have it in my pocket all the time and when sitting down I guess that could stress the exterior of the phone.
Here are the pics:

I really do wonder if I can get it back for warranty now, since its rooted, since this is obviously a hardware problem rather than software.
There is only one way to find out. They might repair it for free if you ask nicely enough.

Would be nice to get a one to one replacement accept that I bought it in The Netherlands and I am currently in Minsk, Belarus for work)))
Man its a nightmare reading all the HTC One X problems, HTC has always made such nice phones, and they messed up just a bit along the way.

Can anyone repair my wifi/bluetooth signal on here?

Hello all,
Oh what fun I have had with this phone since I have had it. It now looks like I have this "Squeeze problem". I have verified against another one x and the BT range is literally 200% / 300% better than mine (running RC4 cyanogen).
I have suffered from horrific WIFI and BT since I got the phone, my nokia e5 has been my daily driver as it lets me use my sbh 20 headset without holding the phone next to my headset.
I have called HTC and they tell me they will take the phone but might charge me due to the fact that I unlocked my bootloader (which was done to improve my wifi and battery drain - hohum)
This was the last straw. After seeing that the new HTC one has already been S-Offed - and we still have nothing. I am really wondering why I bought this device.
But alas - I still want to use it to watch movies and surf at work - so I want to get the antenna sorted - but after watching the video I am not really thinking I want to do the procedure my self.
I CERTAINLY do not want to pay HTC money to repair their bad handy work.
Is there anyone on here that lives in London that would be willing to do the repair for me?
Of course I will pay. I cant even sell it like this as it just sucks to use it. Wifi drops every min etc.
Thanks all!
Lol I don't think anyone would want to be responsible for breaking your phone.
But really, just take your time while opening it gently, you might notice that the back is completely glued in (like mine). Just shove a guitar pick inside to scrap it all slowly off. I was extremely scared as well when I first opened it, but it becomes a piece of cake afterwards.
Make sure the pick goes far enough in so this doesn't happen. >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2319128

My phone has an unlocked bootloader and I sent it back to HTC UK with the exact wifi problem. They repaired it without a problem. The same for my mate who also sent his back with a custom rom still on it. Unless they can prove that unlocking the bootloader caused the fault they have to accept the warranty.
The bottom line is the wifi issue is a known hardware design fault that cannot be affected by unlocking and flashing roms.
