just wondering if anyone else has noticed overclocking over time and battery life going down and if it's just ICS and I should head back to Ginger or possibly that I need a new batt

Not true at all. I have in the past have ran @ 1.2GHz w/Some UV and have the same battery life as 1.0GHz w/No UV. And No Lagg either. Just gotta tweak here and there plus depends on kernel I never had issues with the old Samurais
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yeah I think I may give old Earthbounds kernel another try and try undervolting or just go with stock and see what works best for me. By the way Marcus I loved your work on gingerbread are you mainly working on MIUI or just a little here and a little there?

The main reason I'm not using an ICS rom is that the battery life is significantly worse than stock GB. I've read that some people have gotten decent battery life on ICS after lots of tweaks, underclocking, and moded kernels. I haven't had the time to mess around with it so I can;t confirm it, other than to say that neither CM9 or AOKP give me anywhere near the battery life that GB gives me.

Have to agree, although I still prefer AOKP over any TW rom despite the worse battery life. While it is not great on ICS it is acceptable and I have extra OEM batteries along with 1800. I run the stock Alias kernel, don't UV or OC, conservative governor, no tweaks of any kind
My battery life on Cm9 is just fine imo.

That doesn't seem like a "huge" difference, though. It still depends on how you use your phone. I used a lot of gps, had calls, left IM+Pro on in the background for awhile. I also spent a fair bit of the day traveling pretty far so my signal was all over the place.

Ok so I'm running cm7-180 nightlies coupled with tiamat 4.0.7+ no SBC and I've recalibrated my battery to the kernel. When on airplane mode the battery will last hours or even days on end but if I turn off airplane mode the battery drains exceptionally fast. I'm underclocked with min at 128 and max at 768 using the smartass cpu governor. My brightness is at the lowest setting and my 3g isn't enabled. Location features are disabled as well along with background data. Still the battery drains when in even moderate use. There aren't any apps running in the background either. Any ideas why this may be happening?

You might want to check for wake lock I use battery monitor widget for that.
I'm on the same ROM and get great battery using tiamat 3.3.7 or sz 2.2.1 with vipermod under volted -75 .
For wake lag on screen on check off screen on and off animations and set your min cpu to 245 or what ever the second from lowest is and see if that helps.
Edit:I also use sbc kernels I always have since I got my phone a year ago with no problems.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I've used sbc before but didn't bode well with original battery. Ill try that any other suggestions?

Did you check for wake lock ?
Make sure your phone sleeps when the screen is off.
I also use viperboys vipermod script to under volt the kernel more then it is.
I'll give you a link to older tiamat kernels try out 3.3.7 that one gives me the best battery the newer ones kill my battery.

Edit: if you do have wake lock try different radios out.

Undervolting/underclocking is what you need to maximize battery life. With that said, I get 20+ hours running Warfare rom/kernel.

It seems we are having mixed results with battery. 4.0.4 was supposed to fix the Android OS bug. Some are reporting excellent battery life while others extremely poor. Let's try and narrow this down as for me battery life is most important. Post your setup, screenshots, logs, whatever.
What have you done that showed improvement?
ROM cm9 alpha 2 clean install
Kernel fd02
Modem fd02
4g on
Wifi off
auto brightness off
Overclocked to 1.5 undervolted
Followed recommended battery saving options in faq
Android OS is still high but I saw improvements once I turned off auto brightness. The run before I got less than 5 hours total charge with less than hour screen time

4G ends about 4 blocks from my house, so I very, very rarely use it. Didn't use it at all today.
wifi on ...3g still on?
Using Cm9 alpha 2 fc 24 modem. Running very nice. However I noticed significant battery drain at work (no 3g signal) which happened with any rom I've used IF I don't turn on wifi. But this rom seems to keep searching for 3g signal (which kills battery) even if wifi is on. So now I have to turn on wifi and turn off 3g in order to prevent this (no big deal). Anyone else experience this?

This could be a problem with battery calibration.
Sometimes this phone thinks that the minimal (0% battery) voltage is 3.7V, while in reality, it's closer to 3.5V.

Guys I have calibrated two different batteries, I still drain 1% a minute even on gingerbread, I think I need a new phone, I have insurance but I don't know if they will give be a new one..

I highly suspect this is the infamous Samsung charging port issue which has caused many other owners to experience intense battery drain. This was an almost overnight experience out of the blue, so I know it isn't battery calibration.I just need to convince Sprint.
I know that Roms can technically differ from phone to phone as far as stability goes. But in truth I have not found a true daily driver. Its either a radio issue here, MMS issue there. Its insane. Never had this much trouble with Roms on my Atrix. I blame it on the ff18 kernel.
Anyways, my question is what's you're daily? What's the most stable ROM for you and your e4gt?

I recently rooted and flashed my E4GT with CM9 alpha6: Android 4.0.4, but after trying it for a week I'm finding that this ICS rom doesn't quite seem ready for daily use. Issues: Camera error "insert an SD card", Apollo's Equalizer never worked (no change at all), after calls it has error "unfortunately DSPManager has stopped", GPS stopped working on day 2, just keeps searching for GPS, battery life is only so-so, I get about 6 hours if I'm lucky, and then there is the random force-closing of programs (stock SMS especially) and weird "ghost" Menu Button presses. WHEW!
After a quick One-Click Odin back to GB Stock pretty much everything is working again, except GPS, not sure what that's about, but I'm going to wait a while before using ICS as my daily ROM. I don't mind a little tweaking once in a while, but that was too many issues to be messing with.
Just flashed back to Blazer GB v4.0, it's great.

You should probably download and flash again because I haven't had anything bad happen to me while running CM9. My camera works, no ghost buttons, no force closes, no call problems, great battery life (best I've ever had on any ROM), etc.

Same here. CM9 has been stable for me since alpha 3. Best ICS rom I've used.
For the GPS issues, there's a fairly well documented fix for that. Just use the temporary gingerbread rom, get a fix, then re-flash ICS.

I downloaded the Ktoonsez kernel today for my new S3(first android phone as well), but 1. It feels so laggy compare to my stock Kernel, and 2. My battery is draining like crazy! I when from like 94% to 88% in about 30 mins, and that was with the phone lock the entire time....
I also downloaded Flaux's Kernel. That one was real smooth, but it was also draining my battery a lot while the phone is also lock.
I'm currently using HighOnAndroid custom ROM and had to go back to the factory stock Kernel. I don't know what I'm doing wrong that I'm getting such horrible battery life using those two ROMs, when people are reporting such great battery life usage :crying:
.The battery needs to build a cache to reference and stabilize to show proper battery stats. Flash a rom and kernel and stick with it a few days. I'm using ktoonsez on aokp right now with excellent results. Even on stock roms I use ktoonsez kernel and get much better battery life via the kernel itself and tweaking the settings.
Also, if your saying the rom wasn't smooth I bet it wasn't the kernels doing, it works awesome for most. Of course there are some phones some things just don't work with and that may be your situation but it'd be rare

And the rapid battery drainage problem will fix itself afterwards?

Well that could be anything, but ideally yes. Battery if very eradic after a full wipe and flash. Also try the app better battery stats, it will tell you if anything is causing your phone not to sleep, which would cause drain.

Dejected at first but Totally worth it now
I'm getting the best battery backup now. Better than my previous Note. Average battery life is 25hours with wifi and sync always on and around 3-4 hours of calls.
Thanks for the replies.

they just turned on the lte towers around here and that has been a big hit battery wise. i can get a full day of use but will be down to nothing by the end if the day, with the regular 4g it was half that. power saver helps a lot more now

get Juice Defender Plus. It will turn off data when the screen is off and back on periodically to check for email. I can go all day with LTE on and battery is still around 30% around midnight.

This is what I'm getting on AOKP with Ktoonsez's kernel, is this about what I should be expecting?

Yeah, that's right about what I'm getting. And I'm switching between WiFi and LTE all throughout the day.
Stock battery. The battery life seems better than my Skyrocket.

Just un rooted and grabbed the latest OTA update yesterday. Spent the day reinstalling apps and getting great battery with light usage.
Installed a couple apps downloaded via LTE. Some Web browsing and twitter. Looking good.

The thing I hate is if I am just browsing in the play store the battery goes down really fast. Like a percent every 2-3 minutes. Is this common for others? But the gs3 battery life is much better than many skyrockets battery.
