The most stable ROM - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I know that Roms can technically differ from phone to phone as far as stability goes. But in truth I have not found a true daily driver. Its either a radio issue here, MMS issue there. Its insane. Never had this much trouble with Roms on my Atrix. I blame it on the ff18 kernel.
Anyways, my question is what's you're daily? What's the most stable ROM for you and your e4gt?

It was a beautiful ROM though.

I recently rooted and flashed my E4GT with CM9 alpha6: Android 4.0.4, but after trying it for a week I'm finding that this ICS rom doesn't quite seem ready for daily use. Issues: Camera error "insert an SD card", Apollo's Equalizer never worked (no change at all), after calls it has error "unfortunately DSPManager has stopped", GPS stopped working on day 2, just keeps searching for GPS, battery life is only so-so, I get about 6 hours if I'm lucky, and then there is the random force-closing of programs (stock SMS especially) and weird "ghost" Menu Button presses. WHEW!
After a quick One-Click Odin back to GB Stock pretty much everything is working again, except GPS, not sure what that's about, but I'm going to wait a while before using ICS as my daily ROM. I don't mind a little tweaking once in a while, but that was too many issues to be messing with.

Just flashed back to Blazer GB v4.0, it's great.

You should probably download and flash again because I haven't had anything bad happen to me while running CM9. My camera works, no ghost buttons, no force closes, no call problems, great battery life (best I've ever had on any ROM), etc.

Same here. CM9 has been stable for me since alpha 3. Best ICS rom I've used.
For the GPS issues, there's a fairly well documented fix for that. Just use the temporary gingerbread rom, get a fix, then re-flash ICS.

[Q] Top Epic Roms

Just curious so if anyone wants to chime in please do ok ive noticed since the last month or so there seems to be 2 roms that stay updated and the most popular which are Calk and StrongSteves and he uses Calk's as base so my question is has anyone tried both and came to any honest conclusions on which is better and if Strong Steves just a themed version of Calk's
I have been extremely happy with Calk. Great battery life and speed.
If you like battery life, check this out;

I was waiting to hear which rom was the best, 4g is a must. Im looking for a rom where everything works, no fc or reboots. a rom that has been used or at least ten days without problems. I just got the epic touch, still have my old epic and I have flashed my old one many of times. Many of great roms but ater a couple of days the fc or reboot, trying my best to avoid that. So If I have to I will wait as long as I need to for a nicely tweak new rom. I have read and strong steve looks and sound really nice along with tnz blend, any help on the matter. Any truely daily drivers or do I need to wait, I cant wait to flash so someone help me out.

Daily driver plus tweaks ... Id say cauklins is most stable. Its a harder choice with these epic devs cus to be honest almost all these Roms are pretty damm solid for being a young phone. A lil better battery here, a lil better reception there...they're all pretty stablestable. Reboots stopped with the EK02 modem for me. And the only fc I've had is between zeam and my pandora folder. But zeam fixed it.
Coming from the HTC hero and the OGepic ...where there was a lot of test and error...were lucky to have some good smart seasoned devs on this phone...not to say they're decent ppl but they do decent work ;D memory leaks, LOS, reboots etc...get stomped out pretty fast.

To the OP; I would check out the Starburst ROM. The latest build makes it extremely easy to flash with CWM. It offers the best stock experience in my opinion. It's an absolutely flawless ROM which is basically a stock Epic ROM stripped down for speed. The most stable build has been out for over a month and it's made by one of the most respectable devs for the Epic.
There are some options for customization as well and you can flash the latest official kernel/modem for the phone. The ROM is 100% stable, I have been running it since I got my Epic and wouldn't run anything else.
It's not a flashy ROM however, I like the build, it's super fast and stable, all of what you are asking for.

CM9 vs. AOKP

Hey Guys,

Both are in their alpha stages, so of course be cautious when using them. I've been on CM Alpha 2 for 2 weeks now and it's been silky smooth with great battery life 15-17 hours.
Now I think I'm going to get a taste of AOKP and see what's all the hype about.
Personally, you can only try them yourself. Both are AOSP 4.0.4, and AOKP has more customization such as lockscreen, status bar, and nifty things. For everything else, you have to try it out yourself!
Vs Codename

I've been using Nocturnal Venom AOKP for the past couple of days and today I tried AOKP Build 32. I love how much you can customize on it... especially with stuff like toggles, lock screen, battery bar, etc. Not really sure about CM9 because it was always "too risky" to try, but I think i'm sticking with AOKP-based ROMs.
I like AOKP! I want to use it badly....

Aokp 32 is flawless for me so far. There's only 2 bugs I've found.
SMS doesn't send when character limit is over 160 (even with split messages option turned on and gosms doesn't fix it.) And the signal bars don't accurately display my signal strength.
Everything else is working and battery is the best I've had on any rom.

I REALLY liked AOPK but I had issues with apps not saving to USB. Everything else worked great, has several more customization options than cm9. But so far cm9 has been very stable...both are still in alpha so you can play around with both and decide what you like best since app restore is simple on both.

Archidroid was the first I found....then Philly.com...then several games....dunno why it happened but it did. Had the same result with the nocturnal venum ROM last night and TCP said it was an error he was working on. Think NV is based off AOKP so it had the same issue on both. TCP said it'd be fixed tonight so not a huge issue.

He could start with FE07 leak. It's ICS with TW and its pretty stable compared to some of the earlier leaks. It's an easy flash, too, thanks to sfhub's odin. You can find it in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642564
That is a hard question to answer as everyone has a favorite for different reasons. They are all pretty stable. Calkulins E4GT 2 is one of the more stock looking with a few battery saving tweaks. Blend ICS "Goodness" has really nice themed ics look and has very similar tweaks. AOKP Roms are fairly stable abd have built in ROM Control which is very nice. I'm using HyDrA tablet hybrid ROM and its stable, but because of the dpi settings the market sees the phone as a tablet and you have to change your dpi to download regular apps from the market.

Another vote for fe07 leak then if your friend likes it send them here to figure it out on their own.
FE07 will be your best option for a beginner. Don't go to AOSP until source kernels are released. FE07 will be the most stable. CM9 is very stable too though.

The reason for this is because of the kernel for ICS not being released from Samsung/Sprint yet. It's pretty simple to do all the regular CWM functionality on an ICS based ROM though - Use Odin (or highly recommended: Mobile Odin from the play store, which doesn't require a PC) and put the el26 CWM kernel on your phone (it's found many places, like the AOKP OP for example). It wont boot up with this kernel so just boot into recovery and from there you can backup, flash themes, wipe things, and then to get back to your ROM simply flash an AOSP tweaked kernel - also readily available (in AOKP OP again).
Certainly a few more steps than we were used to on GB Roms but it's totally worth it to me. ICS is a massively better experience for me so the few hoops to jump through are worth it. When that source kernel hits (any day now) it will be the land of milk and honey.

Cyanogenmod 9 Stable for Hercules

I'm just posting a direct link to the CM download link for the SGH-T989. I'm not the developer (Obviously) this is pure non-kanged CM9 AOSP goodness. Finally out of RC phase, stable and ready to go.
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=hercules&type=stable
Alright fellas, I'm not the developer. All of your questions really need to go to the Cyanogenmod team. I can only post information at my disposal. That being said this is a link to the things being merged for the Hercules.

And whats cooking in the nightly builds

Also, for all the "how is this working, does this do etc etc. Make a nandroid- follow classic wipe procedures IE TDJ ext wipe - flash rom - flash gapps - flash cache wipe and........ Find out for yourself.

The transfers speeds have always been very low with CM9. I don't think it's a bug as much as they've just not increased the read/write speed for whatever reason. I believe you can adjust that with Rom Tool Box of you want. I need to try that to.
I've never really used touch to focus. Do other CM ROM's have this feature? Maybe they'll include it in CM10.

Really glad they made CM9 stable. I totally forgot about it since CM10 came out. Lol

I ran through every build of jelly bean. Though its gorgeous and project butter greatly outweighs lenaro compilation in terms of performance output. In terms of stability and real world use CM9 wins for me. And with enough mods and under the hood tweaking my phone out performs the S3 in several ways. So if my year old device can beat its brand new sibling I'm a happy camper. CM10 will be fantastic once stable. Until then I need to have a phone not a toy.

Ok I clicked those two links with "info" and yea that was chinese lmao
Anyone running CM9 Stable care to comment on if they got 4G working? Last I tried Chop's CM9 and AOKP I couldnt get 4G, which was pretty much the reason why I'm running a non AOSP rom at the moment. Darkside is pretty badass and props to the dev but I love me straight up AOSP.
Also very minor issue but if you can check if NBA Jams is working?

Yes. HSDPA+ and HSPAP are functioning normally. At least for me they are. Never had any issues with any rom as far as that goes. Granted Stock ICS and the Darkside series gave slightly faster speeds. The difference is negligible in real world use. As far as benchmarks are concerned yes AOSP based roms are slightly slower. Keywords though, "real world usage". Fairly certain it has something to do with the bcm4330 drivers. Perhaps Samsung uses different drivers in-house as opposed to what they open source. Or perhaps they only open source parts of the driver that they have to and the rest is proprietary.
Cool, I'll give it a flash in a few moments and try it out.
On Chop's CM9 and on AOKP I couldnt get on 4g, I'd be stuck on 3G and even in areas where I would normally get 5+ Mbits I'd be getting like 1-2 so it wasnt that it was just saying 3G.

What's your FAVORITE E4GT rom?

Just like the title says, it can be a gb/ics/jb rom, doesn't matter.
What's the rom that keeps you running back?
What's been the most reliable/fastest rom?
For me personally I have to say CM10 because I love JB. Coming in at a close second would be the Blu Kuban.
Aaaaand go....
I really liked Codename JB rom but the battery life wasn't good enough for everyday use. I know I will be back on that rom soon. In the meantime I have been on a vanilla aosp ICS rom for the past few weeks. Longest I have been on anything.

I've only had my phone since the ICS update....is a GB rom worth switching back to for battery/data speeds/general stability? If so, which one would you recommend? Just the stock EL29?

I certainly apologize. I have not seen this other thread you speak of. Furthermore, next time I create any kind of post I will tirelessly search for a same/similar one.
CNA for a JB rom

gingerbread is just way out dated as far as support/looks/ bells and whistles... but wat it lacks in looks it makes up with battery and stability.. everything works and you can't go wrong with it... but its just a rom I keep on my SD card cuz it will always work no matter wat..

Looks like the download link is bad. I've tried 3 times and they won't flash. The first one have me boot loop and the next 2 wouldn't even flash.

I don't really think this is a support thread for specific roms, however I'll try it now and report back.
Edit: Booted it up no problem.

What I meant was another thread like this, there have been several threads that were similar that have been closed. Everyone has their own opinion, yours will be different, millage may vary, blah blah blah.
No offense to you in any way, I just don't see this lasting long.

CM and MIUI have been my goto roms for any phone that's been supported. Of the 2 though, I'm partial to MIUI. Love the style of it (with ADW Ex launcher) and the customization.
