I wiped wimax on accident, now all I get is ##UNEE_ZTYDUG## I have tried to change it in the epst but when I confirm and the phone restarts it just goes right back. any ideas?
You don't have a nandroid you can restore with your Wimax keys in it??
And what recovery wipes Wimax?

I was just about to do one, just got everything how I wanted it. But no, and from what I have been reading I guess I will no longer have 4g.

Clockworkmod has a option to wipe WiMAX. So I'm careful when I say wipe everything but sdcard unless I know they're in amon ra

Yessir, that unfortunately is the case if you have no backup with WiMAX

Did not know it had that option. Glad I got rid of that recovery a long time ago.

If I'm not mistaken, You should be able to with amon RA v2.3. Still, I'm sure you're going to make a backup as soon as you start using amon RA, right?...Hint Hint....

As far as I know, you can't. But in theory he could try, but I personally wouldn't recommend it, and yes, do make a backup as soon as you switch.

although that might be the case, Clockwork backup isn't as good as amonra. I dont know if they made any changes since last time I used it which was 5months or so, but when you backed up using clockwork, it never saved wimax.img which contains your RSA keys.
Hence why I lost my 4g on my evo a while ago. happened to flash a bad radio file which deleted my rsa keys, and then when I tried to recover through clockwork I discovered that it never backed up my wimax.img file, and was SOL.
Hopefully they fixed this problem, I would hate to lose my 4g again.

Yeah hopefully we get amon_ra, I never used CWM on my Evo because of this...
Here is the deal.
Got a replacements EVO 4G from BestBuy.
It has a new label under the battery with no serial number.
Pulled the label up and nothing under it.
Revolutionary shows me a serial number but fails every beta key attempt.
Hboot 2.15
Updated radio.
Any ideas?
Very odd not to have a serial number.
Maybe trying to keep us from root.

You are copying and pasting the serial number and beta key correct?

Urmmm Nope. LOL
Had a concussion since June, I tend to forget things with non stop headaches.
Let me try it again.
Been a while since I had to root.
Did not have this problem with my wife's new EVO.
Be right back and thank for the replies.

Root acquired!
Stuck on Waiting for Fastboot.
Problem fixed.
Revolutionary crashed but did give S-Off so I just flashed RA 3.11
Good to go.
Thanks

I'm back......
That wasn't easy.
It seriously did not want to root. LOL.
A side note.
Have never tried to restore a nandroid from one EVO to another but can it be done?
I am fully restored but just curious.
Know that RA saves backups by serial number and doesn't work that I am aware.
What about CWM recovery?

To me it's not worth the risk, but if you don't restore wimax then you shouldn't have any problems other than possibly having to restore a nandroid from the phone you have.
I would personally just restore user apps with TB and set everything up the way you want it. I'm the kind of person that prefers to start fresh though - everything just runs smoothly.

Total lie, this rumor of phones bricking has been put to rest in previous threads. I've many times restored replacement phones with backups (just don't use Wimax key part).

It won't brick but RA 3.11 would not even restore data or ext.
It just fails at attempt.
Maybe 2.3 would work.
Tried after posting just to see.

ahhh i would figure perhaps because they are different but I always install my same old recovery, restore back up. then, I update to a new recovery, boot into recovery and perform a new back up.
Is this still necessary? I have done searches, but they are old. What is the new protocol and how do I actually back them up?
Not necessary, but backups for any data are always recommended.
It's still safest to do a Nandroid backup with a working wimax partition and keep it stored somewhere just in case you need it at a later date.
How do you do a WiMax partition? I don't see that option on CW

Thank you good sir
I want to stay with Amon RA, but update CM7 with the convenience of something like Rom Manager.
Anyway of updating CM7 without flashing CWM?
Flash it in amon RA? Just like any other rom

I'm new to CM7, so I assumed that updating it with Rom Manager was as simple as doing an OTA...does it actually flash a new Rom with each update?
I'm kinda over setting up my home screens on a daily basis...

Yea rom manager is just a GUI to get to recovery and honestly is pretty worthless on alot of phones, it causes more problems than its worth really. The old school manual way using amon RA or one of its variants is tried and true and always reliable. CWM on the Evo doesn't always wipe properly which leads to serious issues, I prefer to go down my wipe list and hit everything 3x on a clean install, and 1-2x for cache and dalvik for an upgrade where I dont need to wipe data etc, oh yeah just don't wipe your SDCARD option or it will be blank after and you better hope you got a backup on ur PC, I did that once when I was hungover and half asleep

I've been rooted for a little over a month, and I already got to deal with corrupt backups using CWM. Luckily, I had an Amon RA backup on a different SDCARD...needless to say it saved the day.
I haven't gone back to CWM since.

The ra 3.11 version is actually "the best of both worlds" of recoveries. Supports ra and cwm backups & edify and amend scripting. Fyi for those that don't know.

It's not a big deal, just something that was convenient. I've done without it for a little bit...there is a thread dedicated to this topic.
