Is this still necessary? I have done searches, but they are old. What is the new protocol and how do I actually back them up?
Not necessary, but backups for any data are always recommended.
It's still safest to do a Nandroid backup with a working wimax partition and keep it stored somewhere just in case you need it at a later date.
How do you do a WiMax partition? I don't see that option on CW

I think after a certain version it started backing them up manually

I've done the backup and there is no WiMax.img or anything. Anyone have any suggestions? This is the last thing stopping me from changing ROMs, ha.
Use amon RA recovery. It can be found in the link below

If I do a backup using Clockwork, can I just move it into the Amon_Ra recovery folder in case Amon is the recovery that loads?
I'm getting tired of creating backups for both recoveries because I go back and forth.
Nope.

yes, i've done it with going from clockwork to Amon.
My question is why would you be switching recoverys that much.
No. It doesn't work. If you've done it before, I don't know. You must've gotten lucky or something. The two recoveries back up differently and the backups aren't interchangeable. I've tried it several times.

I don't purposefully do it. I prefer Amon, but when I reboot it sometimes reverts back to Clockwork. The only reason I want to use Clockwork is because it is attached to ROM Manager
I'm curious, who uses which and why?
*Amon. Oops
I personally use cw...but many people on this forum swear by amon bc they say it is more reliable... some roms require you to use amon to flash. ...I personally have never had issues flashing with cw...
Bottom line is that we have two good choices if you are a flashaholic

Amon-ra is my preference 0 errors. Clockwork is nice also, has its own app but people have reported a couple of flashing errors. Both are awesome all I can say is try out both see which one you like better.

I was kind of tempted with the features and GUI of Clockwork, but after reading a bit on here, it seems like Amon Ra is the reliable way to go. I'm new to Evo rooting and roms, but when I had my Nexus One, AR was absolutely the way to go. Rock freakin' solid.
Currently if you have a evo with hboot 2.02 or 2.10 the only recovery u can use after rooting is amon ra...just a fyi

Amon by far.
Amon_RA, since CWM doesn't work properly on newer hboots, and because CWM does not properly wipe partitions when you tell it to. Simple as that.

Im currently using CW...This is why I definitely want to use Ra... however when I flash it using rom manager, and then try any functions in Ra recovery is says "no zip files installed ".. any possible solutions??
I use Amon_ra because it backs up the wimax rsa keys. That's the only advantage I saw

The solution is to place your flashable .zip files to the base sdcard directory and not within a subfolder.

Like the person above said, Amon_RA 1.8.0 can only use ZIP files which are on the root of your SD card, not in a sub-folder. Version 2.0 (which Amon_RA has suggested will be coming soon-ish) will have folder navigation.
Amon Ra currently but I have used both. The reasons are clear it backs the RSA keys, and does clear when wiping.
Btw try #grep RSA /sdcard/nandroid/HT065HL*/(name of nandroid file)/wimax.img
You'll see where your RSA keys are stored in your nandroid.
I go back and forth.... I use amon ra for nandroid backups and serious flashes like radio pri nv all that jazz. I like clockwork for ease sometimes. I don't use app2sd. I use titanium to wipe davlik and repeat in either cw or amon ra just to be sure... They both have their good points. and bad

I recently rooted, and am currently running warm twopointtwo on my evo. I have noticed that my 4g would not connect, and after some searching, discovered the issue with the rsa keys. According to the rsa key checker app, my keys are missing. My problem here lies in that I do not know what my keys are, is there a way to fix this without knowing them?
Any help is greatly appreciated, 4g is a highly used service with my phone.

If you didn't perform a backup immediately after rooting then you need to unroot and take your phone back to sprint. If you did backup the day you rooted then you just need to restore that backup.

Did you use Amon Ra to backup or clockwork? Amon Ra always backs up the wimax keys, however only certain versions of clockwork do. If you used Amon Ra, boot to recovery, select backup/restore, and choose restore backup. Choose the backup that you made, and restore it. If it was clockwork, i"m unsure of the exact procedure, but I'm fairly sure that it's very similar. GOod luck.

tested, and currently still working.
Backups are awesome.
if i switch from clockwork to amon_ra via ROM manager, will I lose any of my information on my phone?
Nope
sent from my Nike hating synergistic EVO!
Only the ability to restore your Clockwork nandroid backups with Amon Ra, and the ability to use the flashing functions of Rom Manager. Nothing on your rom will be changed.
Once you switch, go ahead and make a backup with Amon Ra. Leave the original three options checked and include wimax as well.
If you don't know how to flash manually there are tons of guides, and it's something you'd definitely benefit from learning.

You don't have a nandroid you can restore with your Wimax keys in it??
And what recovery wipes Wimax?

Clockworkmod has a option to wipe WiMAX. So I'm careful when I say wipe everything but sdcard unless I know they're in amon ra

Did not know it had that option. Glad I got rid of that recovery a long time ago.
