[Q] KindleFire & HTC Rezound tether? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the gedeROM. I'm taking my kid out to the amusement park, want to bring the KF along with us for them to use on the car ride. I have a HTC Rezound, what is the quickest way to tether, what app should I get?

Not sure about the Rezound in particular... I have a Motorola Droid X (rooted, VorteX Reloaded ROM) and have no problems tethering my Kindle Fire to it w/ Wifi Tether For Root Users.

[Q] Yall will prolly hate this question.

Bought a Evo 4g in 2010, rooted it, loved it, got run over by a truck, received a replacement from asurion today (still have the busted old one...but need to send it back). Admittedly haven't been to these forums in awhile, so just figuring out now that rooting doesn't work on 2.3.3. Bummer.
To be honest, the only thing I ever used root for was wifi-tether (sad, but true). But I used it a lot, pretty much every day for work.
So in a nutshell, what are my options?
1. If i'm reading the various threads here correctly, I cannot root my device. True?
2. Are there any other free wifi tethering options that don't require root, and support 4g?
3. Am I crazy to consider taking my phone apart and replacing just the components of my other phone that are broken, so I can stay on whatever version I was on previously to keep root? This new android seems a lot snappier than whatever version I was on previously (I didn't do any OTA's since oct '10 on the phone that got run over).
Thanks for the tips.
You searched! congrats on being one of the few!
There are no wifi tethering options for unrooted devices...only usb tethering.
From what I've seen, its not worth the hassle to remove the components from one phone to another.
You will either have to wait for root or pay sprint $30.00 a month for the feature.
Use easy tether its usb tethering and its really fast on 4g I use it everyday

Not necessarily. Comcast sells very slow internet as well as their more modern options. More likely is that he uses it outside.

Come on man do you really have to ask that question... A quick search through the forum will answer that for you. Or are you just messing with us especially with the mansion line?
the mansion is remote in hawaii. Hot spot doesnt work on EK02. I flashed back to Caulkins 1.5a and it works. Hard to play MW3 with 367ping lol

Upgrade dinc to dinc2?

Hey all. I love my dinc running fast and stable cm7. Free tether for my kindle fire and netbook is awesome.
So I got my wife an iPhone 4s and it is fast! Thinking I need a dinc 2 since my contract is up for upgrade. Can't have my wife's phone outdoing me.

Ummmm.... two words... HECK YES!!!!! Amazing phone man. From what I've heard, (since I never owned the OG Dinc) It's way better, and if you loved the OG, then you'll love this one.
Do It!
I just upgraded from the DINC1 to the Red DINC2, and am quite happy so far. Great sreen size, and great screen over all. Battery life kicks ar$e too! My only complaint so far is there isn't an easy root method like there is for the DINC1. The downgrade tool may work for some, but I just don't trust myself doing that. The unrEVOked method was so easy, and I really miss that. Other than that, I am way stoked so far with the RED DINC2!!!! If you do upgrade to the DINC2, I hope you enjoy it!!!!

Its extremely easy. I had to do it to my nephews phone again yesterday. Make sure htc sync is uninstalled. He had 2.3.4. All you need is to download the htc drivers listed in the thread. Make sure usb debugging is turned on, fastboot is off, unknown sources checked. When you unzip the downgrade tool, i had it unzipped to my c:\ drive. In vista & win7, run cmd as administrator. Navigate to the appropriate folder on your c:\drive vwhk-12102011-c
Code:
cd c:\vwhk-12102011-c
hack-vivow.cmd
and press enter. Follow the prompts. then run revoluntionary and its done. It took less than 10 minutes to do everything.

I think it's worth it. I picked up a friends Inc 2 from my Inc and I've noticed: bigger screen is easier to type on, no stupid ass /data/data problem and battery life is better. The front-facing camera is also useful somewhere I suppose and it is a world phone. Now, would I burn a VZW 2-year-lock in for it? I'm not so sure but I do love it over my Inc. The only thing I miss from my Inc one is the 3,500 battery and Seidio holster for it which I can't for the Inc 2 with a fat battery or case on it.
Maxed out family plan second DIncII arrived from Black Friday.
think-in of getting the White one just to complete the set.
WOW just seeing that typed out like that kind of wakes me up;
OMG what have I done with ALL of my upgrades? Hunh?
Oh never mind.
Yea January I might get the White one, keep it virgin, perform some kind of ritual on it...

Not if you have 4g. I'm kind of bummed with it, cause DC has 4G now and it's very impressive. Also, not many roms to play with like Dinc 1.
Very stable, well balanced, and smooth phone though

Appreciate all the feedback! I need to check on the status of 4G here in Panama City. I also travel to DC a lot where 4G would be useful.

[Q] Questions about Kindle Fire

Were looking at picking up an eReader. I was leaning towards the Kindle Fire vs Nook Color but now read about the Nook Tablet. From what I am understanding the KF is rootable now? And at this time what one would you pick and why? I do not want to buy only to regret the decision later?
Secondly when rooted does a Barnes and Noble app work on it also? And is their any problem with the cloud?
When rooted does the Android Market work also?
What are some of the things I would want to consider when I compare them? Also from what I understand you lose storage space of the cloud when rooted so loose alot of storage is this true?

I would reccommend the kindle fire to start off... Yes the kindle fire is very rootable when useing kindle fire utility. The nook tablet and color have options for more space however if you choose not to flash a custom ROM on your kindle fire then you have unlimited amazon storage in the cloud. (Only for Amazon stuff) you also have 5 GB of cloud storage for anything you want. Expandable (for a couple bucks a year). You will not regret buying a KF. Yes B&N app works on rooted kindle fire. No problems with the cloud so far... the android market works when rooted yes.. If you don't mind having to be connected all of the time to wifi to be able to access your books/movies/mp3 files then is it great! No when you root a kindle fire you do not lose the cloud.... that only happens if you flash a custom ROM. However devs are working on USB hosting for the kindle fire so that means flashdrives.. hope this helps you.
I can't think of much else to add. I've had mine since launch and love it. If rooting and flashing custom ROMs are things that interest you then you should definitely go with the KF. The Nook Tablet is apparently lacking in development as I've checked there and am pretty sure they don't have a stable version of CM7 yet when the KF has several rock-solid CM7 ROMs and our devs are making great strides on CM9.
Problems with WiFi Connectiviy
There have been quit a few reports of Kindle Fires not being able to connect to a secure router using WPA/WPA2 - PSK (Personal). Encryption Type TKIP+AES.
They said it works with WEP, but that isn't secure enough.
I bought a Kindle Fire last week and have not been able to maintain a connection on a secure connection. I'm hoping someone in here might have some ideas. Other sites have no been helpful, and I'm hearing support for this is extremely lacking. Hope I posted in the correct place, Thanks.
I've had the nook color and the tablet and the fire. It really depends on what you want, if a ton of support and on board storage are things you want, and don't need the fastest thing ever, the color wins. Also cheaper then the other two. If you just want root but not custom roms and on board storage with more performance then a color, nook tablet. However at a little less you have the same or better performer with custom roms to pick from and don't mind losing onboard storage expansion, the fire wins.
As I said I have owned and hacked modded whatever all 3, for me its nook color or fire, forget the nook tablet for now. I sold my color to get the nook tablet, which I returned and got a fire. I've since moved on to an Acer iconia a100 and my mom uses the fire, rolling an ics rom and doing fine. I can't answer the wifi thing other then it connected to my wpa2 wifi fine for the 15 minutes before it got rooted and rommed. Still works with my wpa2, I've since changed from dlink to Linksys routers, never had an issue not due to a rom bug.

I haven't heard these reports. Anyway, I run stock, have been for months my home connection with wpa2 has not given me any problems with my kindle. Solid.
I got a fire in trade, played withit in stock form. It does its job. I'm accustomed to stock android and am running. CM9 build as of now. The lack of storage do sent bother me because anything no want to listen to is on iheartradio or on Pandora and movies, I can find them if I need them. Mostly tho, I browse the web and XDA looking for a different from for my toys... B-)

[Q] A retired Evo..

Was a good evo. but ive "upgraded" love to stay on the evo i know it well. Ive Gone to a HTC one.
I refuse to ignore my evo though so just curious if anyone needs a test bedder or know of a good use for an evo without service.
You can use it for a media player. It it way better than an iPod plus it can call 911 in a pinch. I set one of mine up for my daughter. She watches netfilx, plays movies, games, facebook, etc.
Or you could use it as a backup. It is legal to clone your own device as long as you don't sell it. I have 3 phones (personal) using the same esn.

Media player would be the number one thing I would use an old device for. Although... I'm currently looking for a phone to replace my LG Optimus V on virgin mobile, and I've head you can flash this phone to virgin mobile.... hint. hint.

yea im using it for music n stuff now but the htc ones audio proccessing will blow the evo out of the water and shoot it into space and put it in orbit around jupiter lol. (not beats audio thats just software) im saying its a newer device its general an improvement.
and yea i dont doubt anything with the evo XD alot of developers have contributed alto of respectable work on the evo. heck its a miracle 4.2.2 is runnin on it the way it is XD
aaah ima miss coming to the evo 4g development threads :'D
now only if someone had a android 3.0 ROM for the evo i could just make it a lil 4.3" tablet :3...not a very powerful tablet but still...
I hope you have google music or a limited number of songs you want to put on your phone.... the htc one is a great phone, the lack of a sd card would make me never buy it, though.

Ubersonic is made for inactive devices. It's main one is for ICS, although if you want JB he does have some experimental builds in this post.

yea i had it on my evo for a while dint like it that much it was great but it felt too much like a refined just for music type deal. however id love to put android 3.0 on my evo :3 i might just put a 4.2.2 rom on it and drop the DPI to 120 and use it like a tablet XD
I am looking for something for my OG Evo as well. I have Ubersonic on it now, but it just does not play well with my bluetooth speaker, so I want to try something else.
Ideally, I'd like to slap a JB ROM on her so I can use profiles to share it with my daughter... but I'd also like HDMI out to work - which I am not so sure is possible on JB.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
I think cyanmobile has profiles. It is a highly modified gingerbread rom that has many ics/jb features added in. Everything works correctly except for mms. Which I am still working on a fix. Most users have been able to make mms work by using go sms.
