Upgrade dinc to dinc2? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hey all. I love my dinc running fast and stable cm7. Free tether for my kindle fire and netbook is awesome.
So I got my wife an iPhone 4s and it is fast! Thinking I need a dinc 2 since my contract is up for upgrade. Can't have my wife's phone outdoing me.

Ummmm.... two words... HECK YES!!!!! Amazing phone man. From what I've heard, (since I never owned the OG Dinc) It's way better, and if you loved the OG, then you'll love this one.

Do It!
I just upgraded from the DINC1 to the Red DINC2, and am quite happy so far. Great sreen size, and great screen over all. Battery life kicks ar$e too! My only complaint so far is there isn't an easy root method like there is for the DINC1. The downgrade tool may work for some, but I just don't trust myself doing that. The unrEVOked method was so easy, and I really miss that. Other than that, I am way stoked so far with the RED DINC2!!!! If you do upgrade to the DINC2, I hope you enjoy it!!!!

Its extremely easy. I had to do it to my nephews phone again yesterday. Make sure htc sync is uninstalled. He had 2.3.4. All you need is to download the htc drivers listed in the thread. Make sure usb debugging is turned on, fastboot is off, unknown sources checked. When you unzip the downgrade tool, i had it unzipped to my c:\ drive. In vista & win7, run cmd as administrator. Navigate to the appropriate folder on your c:\drive vwhk-12102011-c
Code:
cd c:\vwhk-12102011-c
hack-vivow.cmd
and press enter. Follow the prompts. then run revoluntionary and its done. It took less than 10 minutes to do everything.

I think it's worth it. I picked up a friends Inc 2 from my Inc and I've noticed: bigger screen is easier to type on, no stupid ass /data/data problem and battery life is better. The front-facing camera is also useful somewhere I suppose and it is a world phone. Now, would I burn a VZW 2-year-lock in for it? I'm not so sure but I do love it over my Inc. The only thing I miss from my Inc one is the 3,500 battery and Seidio holster for it which I can't for the Inc 2 with a fat battery or case on it.

Maxed out family plan second DIncII arrived from Black Friday.
think-in of getting the White one just to complete the set.
WOW just seeing that typed out like that kind of wakes me up;
OMG what have I done with ALL of my upgrades? Hunh?
Oh never mind.
Yea January I might get the White one, keep it virgin, perform some kind of ritual on it...

Not if you have 4g. I'm kind of bummed with it, cause DC has 4G now and it's very impressive. Also, not many roms to play with like Dinc 1.
Very stable, well balanced, and smooth phone though

Appreciate all the feedback! I need to check on the status of 4G here in Panama City. I also travel to DC a lot where 4G would be useful.

Well you can always root the phone, and then install CM7 for the stock Android feel, or there are a ton of Sense based ROMs out there too. So you can always flash another ROM to try things out.
Well i had HTC Hero and tried rom on droid 1 with sense ui . I like it but i dont know but i like droid incredible, because of the specs.
I just moved from the Droid 1 to the Inc a few days ago. The difference is amazing. This phone is so much more responsive. It just feels snappy. I'm using CM7 and incredikernel fwiw.
Same.. from d1 to incredible and... Well... It's incredible. So much better and pretty much just as hackable

I came from a og Droid and I could never go back. The dinc is so smooth and snappy, even compared to an overclocked Droid. There really isn't a reason to not do it unless you absolutely despise the virtual keyboard

Yeah the droid incredible has alot of rom options and the dev community is very helpful, coming from the OG Droid id definetly say go for it. Even if you didnt root or anything its still a great phone, and it *should* Be getting gingerbread soon, so thats a plus.
the only thing ths phone lacks, is 4G. other than that, i have no complaints. and when my 2 years is up, if there isn't something out there that just completely wow's me, i'll keep using it. i like it THAT much. i'd buy another..they are getting cheaper, and so are the accessories. i bought a white battery cover on amazon for 6 bucks shipped. bought another battery for 6 bucks shipped. i mean, you can't go wrong. rooting it is a cinch, and the development is as progressive as ever...
DINC FTW. I went from an Eris to the Incredible. The screen on the DINC is just beautiful, whether AMOLED or SLCD. With prices dropping on both new and used DINCs (look on CraigsList), I'd definitely pick one up!
I agree, you cant go wrong with the incredible.
The droid incredible is pretty much at the end of its product cycle, I would be looking at something newer like the charge. I wish I could upgrade before verizon implements its new teared data plans. Problem is its $220 to get out of my contract and $200 to get a new plan and phone. Looks like I'm going to have to stay with my incredible as long as possible to stay with my unlimited plan.
you can keep your unlimited data after July 7th as long you already had a smartphone on that line. In fact, if you don't downgrade, as of now anyway, Verizon said you can stay on unlimited data as long as you keep gettin smartphones. If you don't have a smartphone right now, ask around if anyone has a BB or an Android phone you can activate prior to july 7th so that unlimited data is an option

Should be fine as Verizon's pricing for 3 and 4g are the same.

I think droid 1 is good phone I just need 1ghz phone without the overclocking.I'm not in love with 4g as read it drain to much battery on thunderbolt and charger. I dislike samsung I hack my galaxy it got bricked so I won't be going to them again unless it moto or htc.
The droid inc is still the phone to beat in my mind. I can load up 7-8 gbs of music, put it on party shuffle in the car, and I'm set for days. Also the phones indestructible. I work on cars for part of my living, and I drop it with greasy hands, get all kinds of harsh stuff all over the phone and the only wear it shows is from my old case. Lol

Droid I2 or switch for upcoming Moto Droid 3

I am in a pickle..
On one hand, I have always loved HTC phones. I had the verizon VX6800 when it came out and love it for a long time. Then switched to some crap phone when I broke it.
When Motorola released the Droid, i paid for it out right. Loved it! treated that thing like gold. When they released the Droid 2, i was able to get it from Best Buy for free with a upgrade. I grabbed it, was able to sell my mint condition OG Droid too.
The Droid 2, I wasn't so impressed with. Yes it was just like the droid, but blur and the quality just wasn't there like the OG droid. Just a few weeks ago, I got Verizon to replace it for me with the Droid Incredible 2.
Back to HTC, I have to say im impressed. the lack of the Qwerty keyboard does put a cramp in my style that I have been used to for the past 2 years but nothing swype didn't fix.
So now, I see the droid 3 coming out in like a week. I could still return the Droid I2 for it. But I am unsure, with the DI2 getting Gingerbread soon and how well built the phone is. Also my bad run with the droid 2...
Any thoughts on what to do?

Honestly I'm willing to wait on the dual core...how much RAM does the d3 have? I mean the x2 is awesome but is bottlenecked by its RAM. This thing multi tasks awesomely because of its RAM. And the battery life can't be beat. I'm a heavy user and with the slightly larger battery I got 20 hours today with the screen on time of almost 5 hours...and I live in the middle of no where so I have cell service only half the time.

I never thought a MOTO phone would be the more open choice, but if you want to root don't go with the inc2. It is one of the most locked down phones ever released. The only known stable root method costs a costs over a 100 dollars. There are some who claim they have a software root, but in my professional opinion a stable version of it will never be released. If you want to lock yourself into a 2 year contract on what is probably an empty promise, that is your choice, but I wouldn't.
Now if you don't care about root, the inc2 is a great phone.

If you don't care about reality, this is a great post.
As it stands, a quick browse of this users posting history should reveal just how worthless his posts are. (Edit: It seems the majority of his posts have been removed by moderators. Understandable, it's just too bad most of the evidence of his stupidity has been deleted.)
As for the phones, my preference would be the Dinc2 because I don't need a QWERTY, but if that's your thing then the Droid 3 might be for you. If I were you I'd spend some time in the store playing with the D3 to determine if you prefer the "feel".
I would guess you'd be disappointed if you switched. I've rooted tons of phones, the Inc2 is by far the best android device i've touched to date. My phone turns circles around a DX2 with it's dual core.
Give swiftkey a try for a keyboard if you're coming from a physical one, it's awesome.

This. Of all the phones in my possession at the moment, the only one I truly dislike is the D2G. Its just awful. Having owned a Droid X and Droid 1, the only way Motorola could win me back is if they just ditched blur entirely and made a quality, open phone like the Droid 1 was. If people keep buying the garbage they produce, nothing will ever change.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I'd urge caution for the D3. Head into the store and check it out first. It uses the same PenTile qHD display which some people (myself included) think is painfully grainy looking. I won't even pull a DX2 off the shelf unless people specifically ask for it because I'm so embarrassed to show them the display if they're coming from a OG Droid or something with a much better looking display. If I hold a DX2 up next to a Samsung Charge, it's glaringly obvious what the difference between Super AMOLED+ and qHD is. qHD does not fare well in that comparison.

well, I had the original incredible and even though it was a struggle with my big hands, it was still a great phone. I ended up getting the thunderbolt awhile back and yes, the bigger size was a plus for me, but the phone had some issues(including terrible battery life even with extended battery). I had 30 days to bring it back through best buy and in the last week the droid charge & incredible 2 were supposed to come out. originally I was thinking the charge, but then it got delayed so I just got the incredible 2. at first I was a bit bummed about the no 4G thing but other then that this has been a pretty solid phone.

Should I trade my DINC + $20 for a Fascinate?

I've been given the opportunity to trade my incredible + $20 for a fascinate. Should I do it?
I am kinda really attached to my phone and I can get an upgrade as early as April anyway. I know the fascinate has a pretty darn good build of ICS working on it which is the only reason I'm considering it.
Like I said, I love this phone and am apprehensive to trade it for something else. ICS would be nice, but I'm not sure how many quirks the build has.
Any thoughts? The deal would take place on Friday so I dont have much time to sit and think.

Bigger screen... HELL YEAH
Less ram hell no.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
After Samsung's antennagate debacle with the first line of Galaxy S phones, you shouldn't waste your time with the Fascinate. I know it's been "fixed" but that was piss poor handling by Samsung.
No..........
I wouldn't take a fascinate for free. I know to many people with Samsung phones that just have problem after problem. No network connection. My mothers Infuse just turns off randomly. A woman I work next to hers drops 4G to no connection I've pulled her simcard/battery at least 3 times recently. My brother has a NS4g he was telling my yesterday he had no network connection or was dropped to 1x. Battery pull once again. A kid a used to work with had a galaxy S 1 random reboots and just stop charging. Another girl I work with also has a galaxy S 1 ive never seen a phone go into safe mode before. Battery pull. The main reason I passed on the GNexus is because it was made by Samsung.
Long story short NO

Of course you are asking a bunch of dINC owners
still I think the dINC is more future proof (even considering how old it is) than the Fascinate.
Yeah I've decided I'm not going to do it. The GPU is worlds better on the fascinate, but with an upgrade right around the corner and me being completely satisfied with this phone (heck I may wait even longer) I'm just gonna stick around. If the fascinate had 4G then it might have been a done deal.
Again thanks all for the feedback!

You're welcome!
I went from the Dinc to the Fascinate. Keep the Dinc. The only thing that the Fascinate has on the Dinc is the bigger screen and a better DAC.
I personally bought the DINC because it was the smallest smartphone available. Sadly, it still is one of a kind in that department. I would try out the ICS build. I am using it now. It's quite stable and will make you feel like you have a new phone even though you have a two year old one.

I have tried out the ICS build and I'm not very satisfied with it. I am hugely picky about the smoothness and responsiveness of my phone rom and ICS on the inc isn't quite there yet due to the graphics drivers not supporting the GPU acceleration properly. I'll give it another shot if that ever gets fixed. That was the main draw of the fascinate to me, same gpu as the gnexus, same smoothness of the gnexus.

Just my opinion, I would never trade a phone you are happy with for anyone's phone unless it was a large upgrade and you were sure you could return it. Many phones have minor annoyances which would make you regret it even if the phone was a minor upgrade. I run miui v4 and despite the things not yet worked out, it is still excellent.

Without a doubt go for it...Just saw your first post maybe you decided already...I've had my fascinate for a year now and the last three months of ics builds have been great. I've used both the teamhacksung and the gummy builds (which I'm running now).
Both builds have been for the most part stable from what I've experienced.
My buddy has two DINC's at the moment with one running MIUI, I wouldn't trade my shattered LCD stylin' fascinate for it...I soft bricked my fassy for two weeks before I got the time to read up enough and restore it, then I dropped it flush, face down on concrete that same exact day...
so yeah take the i500 or sure...save your upgrade if you want
I have a special place in my heart for the Fascinate, but the GPS problem was painful to deal with, no matter how many gpsfix.zip's people put out.

Upgrading sooner than I thought

I was planning on upgrading to a Dinc2 sometime this summer and dropping Verizon for Page Plus, but it looks like it will happen sooner than I expected. I dropped my Kin Twom today and the digitizer spiderwebed, so it is pretty worthless. It was a pretty good phone for the 2 years I had it, but I'll finally be getting something better.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, I'm sure I'll be around these parts a lot once I find a good price on a Dinc 2.
Welcome! I was new to smartphones and Verizon recommended this phone. Great thing they did; i love it and the community that comes along with it.
Things are a little slower than they had been.. Waiting on a source to drop from HTC with Ice Cream Sandwich and then the newer roms like AOKP and nitsuj's rom plus the rom aero is working on.. they will then be 100% ... all are daily drivers as they stand now which is amazing considering there is nothing from HTC yet... So set back, relax, grab a beer, wine, liquor, smoke.. what ever you do and wait for the real fun to begin! WELCOME!!!!
Hate to s**t on everyone's pillows here, but the Inc2 is pretty old at this point, and I would recommend going for one of the newer devices if you can. That's just my thought. I always thought this phone was fast but after using any non Moto dual core device, this thing is, as I've said before, a sedated tortoise.

No doubt.. but to some it's new ... I still enjoy using it and will continue to enjoy it .. I don't have an upgrade until December so I've got the rest of this year and I may keep it after that, who knows.. plus who knows what's gonna be around when that time comes.. The OP is happy he's getting/got a DINC2 so don't rain on his parade ..

Well, compared to my Motorola dual core phone, this phone runs as fast as a mad, stabbed bull! So it is all relative. Plus the OP wants to quit Verizon and go to page plus. So may be he has a particular reason to choose dinc2, or budget constraints?

To each their own.. it's all good.. the DINC2 is a good phone and holds its own against other phones in its class.. The newer phones coming out are seriously powerful ... I can't wait to get a phone that makes me feel the way I did when I dumped the Blackberry Storm for the DINC2 ... I was blown away!!
Thanks guys. Ya I know the Dinc 2 is getting kinda old, but the new service I will be using is only for 3G phones currently and from what I have found the Dinc 2 is the top of the 3G types.

Well that explains it. But I do believe that 4G phones can work on 3G too, unless there is some compatibility issues with the service. So, may be you can consider a 4G phone too.

4G phones are compatible with 3g (would be stupid if they weren't). He may not have 4g in his area which may be why he didn't get a 4g phone. I didn't have it in my area when I upgraded so I took this phone.

I'm using Page Plus Cellular and 4G phones do not work on it. I believe it is because of the LTE sim card.
Just sayin' andybones (a good friend of mine) went back to the inc2 after being on the Rez.

The thought of using the Rezound makes me want to repeatedly band my head against a wall.

Is it something about the phone or about HTC in general? Because, I've been badly hit by Moto and wanna be careful next time around. So I would like to know if HTC is not so great...

Or that the phone is fat, has terrible battery life and overheats. Ugh. Sense 4 isn't bad though. Pretty nice. That and 2.1 are cool. Everything else blows. Still like stock ICS better than both.
I think you'll be happy with the Dinc2. It's a good phone, and for a 3G phone, it would be my first choice (again) for a 3G phone. I've really enjoyed mine for almost a year now (hard to believe it's been that long). I had not had any intentions of upgrading anytime soon due to not having 4G in my area.
Well, due to my wife's job relocating her, I will know be living in a 4G area, so needless to say, I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way. The Dinc2 will still be staying in the family though, moving to the wife till the next upgrade is due. This will be her first smart phone. I think she will be really happy.
Enjoy your phone, and the community here, They're a great goup
I have had the Inc2 for almost a year as well. My mom has a charge. We have 4G EVERYWHERE where I live (about 45 min outside Boston) and someone on my plan has an unwanted upgrade that is coming in May so Gnexus time for me. Yay! The inc2 really is the best VZW 3g phone though hands down.
I just upgraded from an Eris to the Inc2. I love it and the price off Amazon was 1 cent. Plus I was able to keep my unlimited data plan. And from what I've heard 4g is still spotty around where I live.

Back with Samsung after 2 years with HTC

After two years with my EVO 4G (OG) it was starting to have some hiccups here and there. Mostly because of the power surges that came into my house and fried out 11 250 joule surge protectors, an LED TV, 2 FiOS STB's, the FiOS D-Mark, and a microwave. Charging my phone during the last strike from my local electric company had caused it to start running strangely. Or at least that is my theory.
Well, I decided I needed a new phone. I was lucky enough that I was due for an upgrade, so off to Best Buy I went. I was seriously toying with the idea of getting an SG3. My brother in law has one, as well as my wife's cousins. I thought it was a great phone and light years ahead of the EVO. Don't get me wrong, my EVO has served me phenomenally, but I wanted something nicer. I have 2 Epic 4Gs in my house, wife and son, plus I have had the Fascinate, the Moment and the Transform, so I know Samsung makes some great devices.
I walk into the Mobile center in Best Buy and gravitate towards the Sprint table and started looking at the SG3. There was nothing that really jumped out at me and there were no more HTC phones in the lineup. Sad, but never a deal breaker. Then I see it, the Galaxy Note II. I pick it up and it feels very comfortable in my hand. I am a big guy so I feel like an iPhone get's lost in my hand and this was the Goldilocks phone. Now for the moment of truth. Do they have the Titanium in stock? My EVO is white and so is my iPhone. The Note in white was just too much white. And not the cool Stormtrooper white with black accents like my EVO has, but pure stark white. That wouldn't do. The sales person approached and asked me if I needed help. I told him I wanted the GN2 in Titanium and he gave me an ashen look. He mentioned that they were on national back order, but he would look anyway. Lo and behold, he pulls out, according to him, the last Titanium GN2 in the country.
Everything goes swimmingly. They have the phone advertised for $299 for an upgrade, but I had seen it in Radio Shack for $199. I never thought to take a picture of the ad before I went to BB, but oh well. I told the new salesperson that was helping I would come back to get the $100 credit. She said she had a lot of luck beating Amazon Wireless' prices. She pulled up the site and I was able to get the Note for $199. Score! She got me up and activated in about 10 mins and I was out the door with my new toy.
Now, I swore to myself that I would test drive it for a week or two before rooting at and throwing a custom ROM. Too bad that lasted about 5 mins. I was able to root it even after doing the MA7 update. I am currently a lab rat because I actually like the stock TouchWiz. That may change but for the moment I like the Team Nocturnal ROM (great job guys!!) Battery life on this is insane!!! I charged it to full last night and took it off at about 10PM. I use it as a white noise generator and forgot to set the sleep timer, so it was going from midnight until I woke up at 7AM and I still had 90% battery. Awesome!!
I will probably spend most of my work day playing and tweaking it.

That may change if HTC comes out with something better, but the Note is a great device. Now to start really playing with it. :highfive:

Same boat here, DIE HARD EVO OG supporter. Phone still rocks, although requires some tweaking. I'm on my way to Sprint store this afternoon. What method did you use for root?
thats one hell of a post just to say you got a note 2. i think that everyone should do that. it would make the forums a super great place to get info about who has the note 2. i think we should just give up on developing and just announce ourselves. to me it just seems like a better use of bandwidth. i dont know. i wish i could just read welcome posts all day. :veryfun: :sarcasm:
Welcome to the team  I come from all three generations of the evo. Its so nice to be able to root your phone without all the hastle. I wouldn't go back to htc even after seeing the htc one. Also, Samsung and Sprint have been doing an awesome job of upgrading their phones. I'll be waiting on the Note 3.

I used MSKip's Galaxy Note II Toolkit Ver. 3.0. It was super-easy. It will still root even if you updated to 4.1.2 (MA7) I was rooted in under 5 minutes. (Excellent job MSKip!! :good: )

I got all 3 generations of Evos sitting on my desk right now too. I am not going back to HTC after buying the Note 2. Samsung just does the software so much better. Like why on my evo with 16gb of internal storage do I have to move my apps between a 2gb app partition and a 8gb internal partition

I also cone from a evo 4g. As a matter of fact, I bought the 3d for my wife and another 4g for my mom to use. Same deal here, 4g just want cutting it anymore and the note had been out for a little bit on sprint. So I got it and it's crazy impressive. The weight and the feel of it at first compared to htc devices wad misleading at first, but a good case and some time with it had made me a fan of Samsung.
My buddy at work has the htc dna and it feels like you could beat someone with it, but that's pretty much where the advantages end. This is the way to go. Fast, responsive, uses a stylus like the good old Palm days, and the battery life is amazing.
I've been with htc since the mogul days and have been a big fan of theirs, but always had to buy the extended batteries. I think the stock battery will do for this phone.
Samsung note ii
I also came from HTC. The HTC Desire HD. It was a great device.
You've got to love the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 though. :good:
An ex evo user myself. Welcome to the club....you made the right choice

Liked my Evo 3D for 2 years. Loving the Note II for 3 months! :highfive:
I had the og evo and the 3vo and after the locked bootloader BS and htcs backpedaling on opening up to development, I abandoned them and boycotted them. I won't buy any more HTC products, especially after them threatening lawsuits for ppl hosting RUUs and modified sense roms. They have become too applesque for my taste. Samsung has been good about ease of access for development (unlocked bootloaders and easy to root, just implemented a simple custom flash counter) and releasing source almost at the same time an OTA starts being pushed.
I like to break stuff!
I too have come from using all htc phones (mogul, tp2, and evo4g) and I must say this is one heck if a phone. Love everything about it. The battery lasts me as long as the batteries from all my htc phones combined. Everyonw that I have showed it too have been amazed by it..
Cant get enough of this phone
Also a ex evolte user made the jump the days ago this phone is off the chain I honestly feel like I may go my entire contact with this one!
