My nexus has a horrible signal and data - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was wondering if a different radio would work better? If anyone had any input please get back to me, because this is annoying
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent ICS Blue Tapatalk 2

well, it depends on what radio you are on. We can't answer that for you. You would have to flash the radio to find out. Some have had luck with the latest radios, while others have not. Supposedly, there is a firmware update coming from Samsung on the 22nd to fix these issues. We'll see. Another way to fix your issues is to go to a Verizon store or call them and politely complain until you get them to send you a new one. If you are within your 14 day return period, just take it in and exchange it until you get one that works properly. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with mine.

I was having absolutely horrible service as you are...call Sprint and tell them your calls are dropping, texts aren't going though and nothing works and they'll walk you through how to reset it...I did that today after wasting 3 hours at the Sprint store only to be told "there was a network /tower problem", which there wasn't...called Sprint, talked to one of the techs & he straightened everything out.

So, the update that Samsung is going to roll out, it will work on a rooted phone? Yes, I've read that the new radio is working for some people. Thanks for the reply

No Connection Sprint

I'm just curious to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I have sprint and about an hour ago my connection completely went out. I can still connect to wifi as I am right now. I live slightly southeast of Dallas.. theonly reason I bring it up is because I know that ICS was released today and I'm running cyanogenmod 9 which is ICS. I'm worried that sprint now can somehow tell who is using clean versions of ICS and who is using one like I am. No, nothing is wrong with my account and all bills are paid. I've been multiple places in which I always get a signal so I'm thinking maybe someone else may be having a similar problem.
ICS was released today? show some proof, cause it hasnt been released.
i would say billing issues, but you seem to have that covered. probally just a local issue with a tower in your area or something.
I do not see where ics was released today

Well first off... ICS for our S2'S (ET4G) has not been released. But if you have a link saying otherwise....
Now, a couple of things to look at first...
1. Do you have any friends or neighbors on Sprint??? If their service is messed up to... Its Sprint, give them a call. If their service is fine... Its your phone. If its your phone... Move on...
2. Your rooted and romed... Have you flashed or Odin anything before this happened???
3. You may need to update your profile with Sprint... But I think you need to be on a TW based rom to do that...
And just so you know, Sprint can't tell what rom your running over the air. WoW!!! Can you imagine... Talk about Big Brother!!!
Let us know if any of this helps out.

It happens somewhat regularly lately especially on some of the ics modems. Try a different modem. Fe22 seems to be working well for me the past few days

Sprint can see everything in your about phone section under settings over the air. I've had them tell me what rom I'm running and suggest trying a different rom when I was having data issues on my Evo 4g. They said the info is pushed to them when you refresh a data connection or update your profile. They don't just randomly look at it tho, only when you call tech support for issues does this come up on their end, and they don't give a rats ass if you're rooted and rom'd I've had many a conversation with the phone employees about which roms are cool, what's new and etc. Most of the guys I've talked to are members of xda or other android forums. The only time sprint really cares if you root and rom is if you obviously fubared your phone doing something with flashing and try to get it replaced and even then they only care when its blatantly obvious you screwed up and then try to weasel your way into a free replacement. If you're honest with them they usually just do a warranty replacement and charge you $35 or send you to assurion if you have it. I had one tech tell me how to hard brick my phone so he could swap it and no one could see it had been rooted =-O talk about an odd conversation.
We are legion, for we are many.
I noticed that you are in Dallas. I too am in Dallas and for the last several weeks service has been spotty at best. I am running stock gingerbread now but have had almost all variations of ICS with different modems. The service just sucks in Dallas right now. I have called more than once and both times I was told that we are experiencing upgrades to all of the towers in the DFW area. My 3G and 4G suck donkey balls right now.
I would say it might be a tower upgrade. I had this issue last week and after a few phone calls I found out they were upgrading a tower near my location and had to take it down. I would call Sprint and see what they say.

[Sprint Galaxy Nexus]No 3G Connectivity

So I recently JUST got my Galaxy Nexus, well I connected it to my phone line not even an hour ago. Well I am having trouble connecting to 3G or 4G.
I live in San Antonio TX so I doubt its my signal. I have a Sprint Galaxy Nexus, Not Root (I don't want to mess with it until this Issue is fixed because what if I have to take it to the Sprint store and they won't change it due to the fact that it is rooted.)
FG01 Update. ICS 4.0.4.
Can anyone please help me ASAP.
sprint wont help? why not call them on the phone it takes a long time but that might get you a replacement.also maybe try updating prl and profile and if all that fails contact samsung.
UPDATE: if you just put it on the line it does take a while for data to come on i had this issue when i switched to a iphone 4s for a couple days it should fix itself after a while. patience
Ok. I'll try to go to bed and See tomorrow. and the deal is that I just connected this phone so I doubt they'll give me a Replacement the FIRST day I connect a phone.
I'll try maybe calling Sprint Customer Support. I'll keep this thread updated.

good luck and they should replace it if its having reception issues, if the people in the store give you a hard time always call sprint ive gotten monthy fees waved before because of bad reception and issues.
OK, they fixed it, had to reset something like *#*# something. Anyways, is the Charger LED light supposed to turn on. Because mine isn't...

I don't think so, my doesn't turn on while charging either.
By the way, do you happen to remember the code? Since I bought this phone, a week ago, I notice very bad reception, most of the time I have like two bars and sometimes it drops the connection.

[Q] Missed texts and calls for 2 days.. how can I determine cause?

Like the title says people called and texted me the past 2 days and I didn't realize until 5 minutes ago when I received several texts at once. My question is how can I tell what caused it? AT&T, hardware, or software (custom rom, tweaks, etc?)
EDIT: I texted people during this time and they received them but I did not receive their replies until just now
My old galaxy Note used to do the same thing. I talked to ATT but they said everything was OK and I flashed multiple ROMs to seek a solution with no avail... Even did it with stock roms... Flashed different modems and nothing... So it might be a phone hardware (antenna or something of the sort) I got rid of the Note and got my SG3 ...if its still under warranty get it swapped...
Its the only advice since it happened to me as well and hasn't happened in my S3 at all

Anyone else have any ideas/feedback?
Happening to me too!
I have the same issue. The only way I know it has happened is when my family email's me and asks why I am not responding to their texts or calls. I have spoken to AT&T twice now. So far they had me go get a new sim card and claim they have sent things to my phone that *should* cure the problem. The last call was yesterday and I am waiting to see if it is fixed but I would bet against it. My phone is still under warranty and it if happens again, I will swap it out. They also wanted to get me to upgrade to Jelly Bean which I already have done hoping for a fix.
I have never had to swap out a defective phone. Will they send out a replacement and allow me to keep this phone until the replacement arrives or must I send mine in first? With this phone using a mini sim card, I do not have another phone I can use during the shipping time.

[Q] 4G LTE Issue (Described inside)

Hello everyone,
I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 and have been through hell the past month trying to get my phone working again. I have posted a detail of what I have been going through on the Sprint forums, which you can find by googling 4G LTE Antenna Issues on Galaxy S3, but will go ahead and give a quick summary.
Towards the end of May, my phone became extremely hot and I had to send the phone in to Samsung. They replaced the PBA board and sent the phone back to me. Upon receiving the phone, I noticed that i was not getting 4G LTE anymore (I compared it with the other phones on my account, along with going to places which I know I received great LTE coverage). I sent the phone in to Samsung again. Upon receiving it, I noticed that I still did not have LTE. After going back and forth with Sprint and Samsung, I sent the phone in to Samsung again for a third time. The phone came back 2 days ago, and what do you know, no LTE. The one change I did notice is that Samsung updated the ICCID to run on 4G (per their description from the repair tracking website). The ICCID is the one number that is different from when I originally got the phone (DEX, HEX and IMEI are the same). After talking to both companies again yesterday, I was pretty much told by each company that it was the other companies responsibility for the LTE to be working. Sprint did try to reprogram and had me do an activation using SCRTN, while Samsung says that as long as I receive 3G then the 4G LTE issue is on the carrier's end.
As you can imagine, i am extremely frustrated. I have navigated these message boards along with others looking for solutions, but have been unable to come across any. I have not rooted my phone, but do consider myself pretty knowledgable with the phone.
If anyone can give me any advice on what to do, I would greatly appreciate it. It is important to add that I do not have insurance, but that I did purchase the phone at the end of January and it is under Warranty.
Thank you
Well, have to ask, is the phone up to date, with software and including your modem and prl?

Yes, all software is up to date. Samsung did it on their end, and I also did it on my end. I actually spoke with Sprint again about 1 hour ago, and they are going to send a tech to one of the towers that I connect to try to see why my phone will not connect to it. The tech rep mentioned that i have done all the required procedures and that there may be a lock on the device. Anyone experience this?
I had a similar issue to this happen. I had a device that would just not connect to the Network. What I ended up doing was the ##72786# on the dial pad. It worked like a charm.

That is a very useful code to use if anyone is ever having network problems. Just be prepared for a few reboots is all!

that's one of the things that the tech rep from sprint had me test on Wednesday. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. Did you do it more than once?
At this point, I have to wait until Tuesday, at which point Sprint is supposed to call me back and let me know how the results of the technician going to the tower ended up. If anyone is familiar, I believe it is called a "CMT Ticket".
Whenever I've had to use the code, it has worked on the first try. It does cause the device to reboot several times. Well keep us posted on what the Tech comes up with.

I agree. This is probably the 5th I see someone posting saying that their network connectivity vanishes or is impaired after sending their phone into Samsung. Makes you wonder what the heck they exactly do to your phone.
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

Seen plenty of these posts myself. Seems maybe some techs are damaging the antenna during phone disassembly and re assembly I would presume.??

Just did a search. Seems you are spot on. Quick search yielded way to many people reporting the same issue after sending a device in four repair.

The Samsung tech rep that I spoke to the last time was very confident in telling me that if I was receiving 3G, the fact that I was not receiving 4G LTE was not a phone issue, but a carrier issue. He said that the phone uses the same antenna to connect to both towers, so if you are connecting to one, then the antenna is not the issue.
I also found it interesting that Samsung's warranty DOES NOT cover phone replacements, per the Samsung rep. As he explained to me, they only repair phones and do not do phone swaps - those are done at the carrier level, which I find odd (how does a manufacturer not swap phones?)

And you don't think the samsung rep might be misrepresenting something? If not he would be admitting fault.

Most definitely. That did and still has crossed my mind. I actually asked the tech rep from Samsung where I could find a blue print for the phone, as I was under the impression that they were 2 separate antennas, but he says none is available (obviously if I google it, I will find it).

Wanted to provide an update to anyone following my situation.
I received a call on tuesday from the sprint rep checking to see if there had been any changes to my LTE service. I told her that nothing had changed and I still had no LTE. She informed me that the status on my ticket said "PENDING" and that she would call me back. Unfortunately today came and went and I did not receive a call. I was very busy at work and did not have a chance to call Sprint. I will be calling them tomorrow to ser what the latest is.
I will hopefully have some update tomorrow.

Any more info? A friend of mine had the same issue and had to fight sprint left and right for an actual replacement of the device. When the phone was replaced (swapped) by sprint he had no more issues.

This email will serve as the end of this thread. Unfortunately, I did not get the desired results I achieved.
After not hearing anything from the Sprint rep, I finally got fed up and called Sprint again on Friday. The rep who I spoke to said that he did not see a ticket on my account for the CMTS test. He did inform me that usually with these tickets, a rep will put it in, the technicians will go the tower and look at it, and the ticket will disappear and that they usually don't hear back (I found this extremely strange). After going back and forth, I finally hit my "hell with it" mode and decided to do the phone swap. After speaking with more customer service reps, I was able to get statement credits which would at least offset my $50 cost of replacing the phone.
My phone did come in on Tuesday, and I do now have 4G coverage. I am still extremely disappointed and frustrated with both companies, as I want to know why the phone was not working as opposed to just paying $50 and having it swapped. I am not the first person to have this issue, and sadly will not be the last. I now have a refurbished phone after only 4 months for no fault of my own.
I really like the phone, but I am going to have some serious thoughts when my contract is up in purchasing any future item from Samsung or re-upping with Sprint. I was given the runaround from both companies that left me extremely disappointed.
I wish whoever goes through an issue like this in the future better success. Believe me when I say I did a lot of research and really did everything I could on my end.
Thanks for everyone's input/attention.

network issue and questions regarding update profile

So my wife began having issues with her s3 about a week ago. Couldn't receive our place calls but data worked correctly. My phone hasn't had this issue but I'm rooted running old radios. So we call Sprint and they run us through the usual, update profile, factory reset and eventually we have a phone that seems to work. That only lasted a few days though. Spent said I'd it becomes an issue we should consider reps aching the phone so we go to best buy to replace it through insurance. New phone comes in and best buy cannot get the phone to work. Same issue, data works, no voice/text. Before the new phone I was 80% sure it was network related. Reason being when her phone was having this issue I couldn't even reach her voicemail when I called her phone, it would only give a busy signal. Now that a second phone has the same issue I'm definitely convinced but Sprint insists we take it to a repair center to have them check it out. I decide I want to test my theory and put a touch wiz Rom on my phone, upgrade to md4 radios, update profile, bam, no voice/text, only data. Downgrade radios, update profile, everything works. So off to Sprint we go, about 20 miles north of us. We get to the store and of course they are going to want to update the profile. I test the phone while we are up there and it doesn't work. As soon as I update the profile it works. Does the phone pull the profile data directly from the tower? It's really just curiosity at this point as to what might actually be wrong since my wife's phone is fixed, until the system tries to update the profile while we are home. My thinking was that if the profile data is stored directly at the tower that maybe out tower is corrupted in some way. Sprint reps tells us it is simply die to tower upgrades but it's not an issue of coverage, we have bars and data. The busy signal when trying to call the phone makes me feel like it is a much different issue than they care to recognize.
Sorry for the wall of text but if anyone has a good idea what the root issue might be or who to contact at Sprint that will actually pay attention to what I'm telling them let me know.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
You may want to try ##72786# in the Dial Pad. It will do the Hands Free Activation again. The Device will Reboot once. Just let it do it's thing.
Did that a number of times. Same result, no voice but data works. So far updating the profile while on a different tower or downgrading the radios has been the only fix.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
One thing that keeps coming back in my brain. Is that you had the same issue in two different devices. I would tend to say the issue is on Sprint's side of things. Did they check your account, to be sure there are no restrictions on it ?
TEAM MiK
MikROMs Since 3/13/11
They did and no restrictions. I'm going to try it again tonight but I'm fairly certain I can replicate the issue.
Step 1, flash to touch wiz
Step 2, update to md4, at this point everything will probably still work
Step 3 update profile. At this point I should lose voice/text service while retaining data if I'm correct. And again, if I get within range of a different tower and then update profile it will again work. After updating off a different tower service will continue to work at my house as well. Let the testing begin...
