Hi guys,
Today my desire suddenly turned itself off, and reloaded into HBOOT. None of the volume buttons work when trying to navigate the menu. HBOOT says:

I've tried using the PB99IMG.zip method with older versions of android, but I'm running oxygen 2.3.3 rom, and the process fails every time. I've looked on the htc dev site for the 2.3.3 RUU, however when I try and download it it says file is cannot be found. Does anyone know where the RUU can be downloaded from?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Tom
There's the place where I downladed the one for my Desire. As I'm new user to his forum can't put links but have a look to shipped-roms.com
Thanks very much, I've managed to find the RUU. So it gets somewhere when I try and use the PB99IMG.zip method, but it just says parsing with a list of ten numbers and nothing happens :/
Try running RUU.exe when phone is booted into fastboot (and connected to PC obviously)
Also http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152
My main problem is that I can't boot into fast boot :/ when I hold the back button and turn the phone on it still goes to HBOOT. I have also ripped off my volume rocker to make sure its not the down button stuck If I plug it into my computer using HBOOT my computer picks up and Android 1.0 device. However if I go into a cmd and use "adb devices" it still says no devices found :/ and the RUU doesn't pick up the phone either when its plugged in.
Even though I've had clockworkmod installed, the phone is showing S-ON, does this mean I can send it back to HTC and it would still be in warranty?
Thanks for all of the help
Yeah the warranty should still cover it HOWEVER, from past experience, this sort of situation happened if the phone suffered from water damage, so I'm not sure whether you'd be okay. If you want I suppose it'd be worth a try, but if it turned out not to be covered by warranty you'd be looking at a hefty repair fee or a £20 return fee. It's up to you, if it's not water damage then you'd definitely be covered, shouldn't have ripped off the buttons though lol, don't know what they'll say to that.

Hmm it could be water damage from the amount of sweat produced when I was running as it was about half an hour after that that it broke. I've got a One X in the post anyway (luckily) so I may as well send the desire off to see if its salvageable, and if the cost is too much I can just leave it with them. I can put the buttons back on so that they work fine. So hopefully they'll be able to repair it (or send a new one ) and I can sell it If not, I'll be at no loss. Thanks for the help bortak

The HOX? Should've waited for the SGS3 like I am
Oh I wish I could but I was offered the One X for ten quid cheaper a month, so being a student it had to be taken..
Solved
Just thought I'd say, sent it back for warranty repair (even though it was S-OFF, rooted and had a custom rom, HTC fixed it and sent it straight back

Hi! My first post here and, sadly, not a pleasant one for me.
Today I, while charging my rooted Desire (Ginger Villain 2.8, if that matters), launched an app and it crashed (black screen but with status bar still showing). Since none of the buttons were responding, I took out the battery and then put it back in and tried to boot it. I went as far as the GingerVillain logo screen but then stopped the process. Since I was impatient (and dumb...), I pulled the battery out again. On the next boot process it halted at the white HTC screen. But now on the 3rd try it refuses to boot at all. No response what so ever when I press the Power button. Charge LED doesn't light up if I connect the USB cable.
What could I have messed up? Any solutions? I sure hope I haven't bricked it or something... Any help is appreciated!
Can you access hboot or fastboot? If yes, use the last one flash ruu. If not, use the search. There is a thread with nearly the same problem like yours and when I remember correctly, it got solved.
Power + Volume down doesn't work.
The other thread that seemed to be about this problem also involved some physical damage. My phone hasn't been dropped or soaked though.
I will try to get a hold of a charged battery and see what happens. Don't know why would it crash and burn like this considering that I wasn't installing anything. :/
Also some people suggested a while ago, to take out the battery and leave the phone alone for a few minutes, then try to boot again.

Had it sitting for approx. 4h with the battery removed. Put it back in and still no response what so ever. Power button doesn't do anything nor does plugging in a charger. Wasn't able to put in a charged battery because no one I know has this phone.
Not happy about this. And I'm pretty sure the tech support will just end up blaming the root...
Well, try to hold down the power button for at least 30 seconds while the battery is off. It works with notebooks. Other than that, no idea.
i guess mobo is dead, with roor you loose your warranty as well, so if mobo is realy dead you need to buy new phone, or try look on Ebay, but first sent it to htc just for diagnostic, we need to know what realy happend to your phone and after that look for advice

eehh..no.... if the motherboard is dead - so is the root, they won't know, so you still have your warranty.
My phone also randomly died on me once, it was rooted and S-OFF'd, sent it to htc and they repaired it for me. Don't worry about it just send it off. If it's dead it's dead.
in that case you are right, if mobo is realy dead so the root is dead too, yeah
sent it to htc and you will see
Heh encouraging replies.
Anyway, I don't have an official subsidiary of HTC in my country so I'll just bring it to the shop I bought it from. Not sure if they do diagnostics and repairs themselves or just forward it to HTC.
Since I've never gave a phone for repairs, what are your suggestions regarding the SD card? I assume it's fine if I just remove it and bring in just the phone itself. Most of my apps are installed on the card, but I guess I can kiss them goodbye at this point, right?

no, all HTC as that you give them is your phone and your battery. No SIM card, no SD, no charger/ cables. Just the phone itself.
they dont need your sdcard, you should give them just phone, battery and thats all, everything else leave home, i just sent my phone with battery to repair, simple
Bumping this thread in case somebody finds it and wants to know the outcome. I gave the phone for repairs and the conclusion was a broken motherboard which they simply replaced.
I have to admit, I was ready to buy a new phone and now that I have my old one back, it's a kinda weird feeling. I definitely do want to upgrade to Galaxy S II but it's still bloody expensive. I guess I'll just wait till the end of my warranty (April next year) for even better phones to hit the market and upgrade then...
My old desire needs a new chassis. Its dented bumped and scratched all over (apart form the screen) it got dropped the other day and some plastic bits cracked and chipped off.
It still works perfectly but I can see this damage causing problems.
I have clockwork recovery and leeroid A2SD rom.
I've chatted to them and they will nuke my phone back to stock and charge me for the privilege so I need to make it completely stock.
Is there anything they can cheekily look at to see i've returned it to stock?
help.
You have to flash the downgrade hboot from alpharev.nl site and then the corresponding RUU for your desire. I mean if it's branded, choose the last branded RUU.
You can find all information here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632
[7] option would be fine.
Next time please search in the right room.
yes I should have done a more thorough search, I feel bad.
Thanks for the pointer all the same (no sarcasm)
Cosmatic repair is not a warrenty repair so no neet to unroot
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
According to HTC help;
"We can repair the phone chassis for you but they have to repair every fault or change of the phone to as new condition before sending it back to the customer. This is to avoid any warranty & policy disputes. Because of this if you have changed the software on the phone they would have to correct that before sending it back. I am sorry to say that is how our repair centre run and I am unable to change this"
could be expensive then!
well I've done everything I can, everything i can see shows this phone is stock.
wish me luck.

Good luck
Sent it off.
They almost lost it! (shame they didn't really)
The phone went out of warranty whilst it was with them (they've had it for almost a month)
If you search a well known auction site for
" Keypad Chassis Back Battery Cover For HTC Desire G7"
You'll see the replacement case I'm thinking of getting.
I've found this

Any opinions?
I'm currently running CM7.1 on my droid incredible. Yesterday morning, my screen became illegible. Only a small strip on the left side of the screen was remains visible, the rest is white. (Let it be noted that this is almost certainly some sort of hardware problem, not a cracked or damaged screen.)
I received a warranted replacement phone (Dinc) today and I need to return the old damaged one. How do I go about turning S-ON if I cannot see what I'm doing? Boot-loader and Clockwork Recovery exhibit the same screen glitches. Will Verizon even check for root if the screen is INOP?
Please see the attached picture to get an idea of the problem I'm talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If I can remember right, unrevoked has an s-on tool..u could ruu to stock then run that. Then just send it in and hope it worked.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
You need to downgrade to froyo radio, then flash s-on zip thru recovery, then ruu. You must go s-on before ruuing. It may be dificult but it looks like there is enough good part of the screen to figure it out. Not sure if they will check or not, but if they do your gonna be paying retail for that phone.
hello
I own a HTC wildfire : A3333. i had spoken to a htc call centre two weeks back as my phone was not charging at all, and on their recommendation i gave my phone to their service centre
On a preliminary check, they told me that due to water logging(ie my phone went through a wash cycle more than 7 months back) my charging IC had got corroded and that was the cause of it and they quoted Rs. 3000 as the cost of replacement with no guarantee/warranty. I asked them not to replace it and i collected my phone from them.
On recovering the phone i found out that they had forgotten to replace the screws, hence on opening the back-panel the rear panel was accessible. i checked the panel of my cellphone and also got a second opinion from a 3rd party service centre and they concluded that there wasn't any hardware issues.
I also was able to charge my phone through the fastboot in my bootloader which happened for the first time in my experience & my bootloader seems to be intact.
earlier before i gave my phone to the service centre i was able to switch on and use my phone if the battery was fully charged but i couldn't charge my phone.
now after i have received my phone am neither able to go to my recovery nor am i able to start my phone. on pressing the power button my phone goes to the white HTC screen and it switches off.
i have tried pushing the recovery img through fastboot, which my computer reflects as a success & i have also tried RUU. my phone still doesn't respond. is there anything that i haven't tried or something that i should try??
hoping for some help desperately!!
firstly wash ur set's borad through WD40 and then wait until it comes up on its real position ,,,then try to boot

I'm using the $29 HTC Advantage program to get a refurbished phone after scratching my phone's screen.
I'm currently rooted so I assume I should go back to stock. I have two questions:
1. Should I bother going back to S-On? I remember reading somewhere that some phones shipped with S-On so manufacturers usually don't look at that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong; I'll go back to S-On if you guys think it might be an issue.
2. They told me they'll automatically charge me for any more damage on my phone outside of the screen damage. I have the typical scratches around the corner of my phone from drops. Should I expect to be charged for those scratches?
Thanks in advance.

1) Its completely up to you but ive heard stories of htc charging $199 when they had it s-off.
I had a firewater'd s-off/rooted m8 and i just restored, used a ruu. got rid of tampered banner and red text. And changed s-off to s-on. Doing this i had no issues using the $29 method to get a new one and they never said anything. MAKE sure your completely stock before changing it to s-on or you could have a $600 metal brick.
2)Mine had a few nicks from running naked and dropping it 2 feet onto concrete and being rough with it. They gave me a brand new refurbished m8 no questions asked. So no i dont think so IMO

Thanks a bunch.
I have a couple questions that I feel like a noob asking:
1. What exactly is ruu? If I restore my stock ROM (I'm on GPE right now) and then s-on and relock my bootloader, is that not enough? I don't have the red text on my stock ROM.
2. Is there any place I can look for the tampered banner? I can't seem to find anything that indicates tampered, unless it's something hidden to us but HTC can see.
Just curious if you guys are using an old phone while you wait for HTC, and if ur getting charged a activation fee for switching phones.

I'm using the $29 option where they overnight a replacement phone to me and then I send mine back with a prepaid label. Gets my screen fixed while also getting a phone without the scratches around the edges.
Regarding the activation fee, I think Verizon only charges that fee for upgrading/adding a line. I don't believe it's charged for changing phones on an existing contract. I'm not sure about other carriers though.
