This is the second time i have to factory reset my phone because of this problem...
This error keeps popping up over and over and over even if i send the error report over.
The first time, i was playing a game called Death Rally and received a call while playing, after i hung up, the phone screen got locked and upon pressing the power button, i did not see the unlock screen (it is a default HTC unlock screen called Productivity).
Second time, i rebooted the phone while listening to songs using Poweramp. After the phone booted, the lock screen was missing.
on both occasions, i was able to access Settings from notifications bar, and when i did get there, the popup (in the third image below) started appearing repeatedly. I sent the error report to htc a couple of times just to stop it from popping up but no luck.
I searched online and have not come across any workarounds for this except a factory reset, which is the solution i resent because i have to download my apps / restore contacts all over again.
Hope HTC fixes this...
Anyone else have encountered this problem? if so, any suggestions on a non-reset solution?
Thanks

Same problem on One S
This exact same problem just happened to me, on my HTC One S though, after receiving an update. It started immediately after reboot. I can stop by going to Settings -> Apps and disabling the wallpaper "app". This doesn't feel like a proper solution, but it seems to work for now - maybe it can work untill a fix is released.
Yeah, i tried that last time this happened to me, i disabled everything that said 'wallpaper' in the apps. But that did not solve the problem. Its good that it fixed (even if temporarily) for you
Now that i have reset my phone for the second time, i have become extremely careful, but i still don't know what will cause this, and at what point

This happened to me again...WTF
Having the same issue here. Running stock 4.0.3, Rogers HTC One X. Doing a factory reset will fix it for awhile but the error just comes back.
I had same problem with EVO 3D, after update to 4.0.3. I tried to reset my phone to factory settings, but error was just delayed for few hours, when it started to appear again. The problem was in application called "weather provider". After disabling that app problem was solved. Try that solution.
I installed after that APEX louncher, and other aftermarket widgets for everyday using. I just don't like htc sense, but i really like their phones.
My wife's phone (HTC one X) had the same message come up today too!
Any ideas anyone on what the permanent fix for this is?
I understand that the factory reset my solve for a while, but there must be an underlying issue here.....
hi
i have the same issue with the phone and some times it keep restarting i dont know how to fix
Wallpaper / Productivity has stopped unexpectedly
The message 'Wallpaper has stopped unexpectedly' kept popping up every few seconds on my HTC Sensation XE but it was directly after I'd moved Skype to the strip at the bottom of the screen. Once I removed it, it was fine.
this worked!
Disabling the weather provider finally worked for me! Thank u so much! That pop up msg. every 2 seconds was annoying. And, trying to maneuver my way to home screen through the pull down panel using the settings. It's terrible that cell phone companies make us do factory resets and force us customers to come up with solutions to fix their problems. My phone has served me well many yrs. despite the battery dieing every hour and 3 factory resets, and constantly turning off the screen and then back on again, and all the sporadic screen clicks by itself, dialing numbers and texting people! I'm finally getting a new phone tomorrow, but at least I didn't lose my information this time. Thank you!

I've had some problems with my phone recently as it keeps rebooting itself (sometimes when charging and the battery gets hot.. sometimes randomly). When this happened a few months ago it got to a point where almost everything stopped working.. I did a factory reset but no joy so I took it to a phone shop and the guy said he flashed it and everything seemed to work again for another couple weeks then the rebooting started again but less frequently. Its now become a daily thing and today everything has stopped working again.. my call list.. text & emails won't update if a new message comes in I can't see anything in the list. I keep getting a popup telling me that Open Sense Plugin Manager has unexpectedly stopped along a couple of other error messages. I can't install anything either.
Any suggestions on how to solve this? I'm getting more than streesed by this!
Is it still rebooting? You could use an RUU and it might solve the issue but it might not. A bit of hit and miss if you ask me. If it is still rebooting because its getting hot, give HTC a ring.

What's an RUU?
It got to a point last night where it wasn't turning on at all just getting to the T-Mobile screen and then back to the HTC screen continuously. I managed to do a system reboot which stopped the error messages I was getting but it was still doing a number of reboots. Seems to have settled now but obviously there's still an underlying problem there.
Will def be giving HTC a call in a while but want to avoid sending it to them unless absolutely necessary.
I recently got HTC one x in UK and it was fine so far now I started receiving Loading screen often. After seeing various forums I removed the calendar widgets with the hope of not getting he loading screen again but no luck. Any one had this problem or any suggestions?

Hi,
Not sure if you still have this problem, but I solved my friend's X by backup and factory reset. after restart, tested opening apps then home button, no more Loading..., then restored.
Hope this helps.
Thanks dansoh, Same I did and it started working fine but my worry is why the new phone needed such factory restore?
I already did a factory reset on mine and it still happens. I think when the phone runs out of ram, it may have randomly closed the home screen and so it needs to "load" again.
This sometimes happens with my galaxy nexus as well.
I had my homescreen always reloading again to.
Found out it had something to do with the setting: Options\Developer options, and there the 3rd option from below, don't save activities (not sure how it is displayed in the English version).
It should not be selected, otherwise it reloads the homescreen everytime.
I see that option. By the sound of it, i think it disables multi tasking?

i got the same problem too and it was yesterday it started as there was a new software update and i accepted and ever since, when i hit the home icon on the phone it says loading every time.. i followed all the tips of putting everything to 4 processors and turning off activity in the background and no luck.. i have noticed that when i go onto the task manager i have constantly over 641mb running even when i stop all and refresh.. where as before i updated it it was around the 300mb ... can i get the old version instead of 4.0.4 ? or is there another way ? thanks
Hi guys, this problem just started to occur. I heard a notification sound from my phone which should have been the email tone but I was busy so i didn't check it. I noticed the sound was a little cut off at the end though. Then almost immediately afterwards, I got the sound for a new SMS. Then I checked my phone but I couldn't see any emails from before although there was a new SMS. When I tried to open the message, it would go into the Messaging app but then it would get stuck on a loading screen when I try to actually enter the message. When I go back to the main messaging screen, I can still see all my past messages, but each time I try to go into one, it'd get stuck on the loading screen. Eventually after maybe 3 minutes it finally went into the newest message i got, but when i tried to send a reply it would act like nothing's happened. The message i typed just disappeared. When I went back to the main messaging screen, I was able to see my message in the previews, but when i go back into that conversation, it would be stuck on the loading screen and now nothing is loading. This is really annoying. I haven't really used my phone in the last 6 hours and before that everything worked perfectly.
On another note, I'm noticing that during the night, my phone uses up about 30% of the battery just on idle. I have wi-fi turned on but is this normal? I only slept for 6 hours...by the way, the battery charging all seemed normal before but now I just plugged in my phone about 1.5 hours ago and it's only increased by about 3 percent...
My phone is not rooted and has been updated recently to the latest version. I also have Lookout Security installed. Any help would really be appreciated!
Update: I just noticed that my phone was blinking red and green one after another. After checking it seems to indicated that it's because it is overheating so i've now disconnected the charger and turned it off. But i can't think why it would be overheating. It's placed on a wooden table away from sunlight and any heat sources and like i mentioned earlier, I haven't really touched it in the last 6 hours so I was definitely not using anything intensive.
Did restarting fix the messaging problem ?
What apps have the highest % for battery use ?
Well, your phone probably was doing something intensive.
Maybe your antivirus was upset by the email or message.
@PhoenixFx: Yeah i did restart the phone which didn't help. I even turned the phone off for 30 minutes which cooled it down but as soon as i turned it back on, it started to get hot again. Whilst it was turned off i had it charging and then when it came back on i noticed the battery percentage increased much more so the battery was definitely fine. The process which used the most power was Viber which was at 9%, there were a couple of other processes but they were all under 5%. I even uninstalled Viber which didn't help. Looking at all the processes that were running, I couldn't see anything that was abnormal.

That could be but I don't see why it would. The message was just a regular text message.
Anyways, I have now done a factory reset and it seems to be fine again. But if anyone has ever come across this or know the solution, please let us know so if it happens again, I'll know what to do and it would also help others who experiences the same thing. By the way, how much SHOULD the battery drain overnight with the wifi turned on?
You may have gotten a virus. I got a gmail virus that wiped a lot of my emails and wouldnt let me receive. I know this is about messaging but they are made by google so it is a possibility. I suggest a full restore and to run a virus scan with one of the play store's antiviruses.

I had the same problem with the messages. They wouldn't open or they would take a lifetime to load and open. Resetting and **** wouldnt work so I did a re-install of my ROM, wouldnt work, so I did factory wipe and started fresh. So far so good.

Yeah I'm not having any issues so far. Of course, it could've been a virus but I scanned my phone regularly with Lookout and also when it happened. Very weird. Anyways, if it happens again, I'll post back. Certainly hope not, this was the second time in a month I had to do a factory reset (last time was when I updated to Sense 4.1 and for some reason it wiped my phone and didn't even do the update. I had to make it download the update again for it to install...)
Ok, it's just happened again. First i heard the notification sound for an email, but then when i turned on the screen, i couldn't see any notifications. Now when i go into my SMS, they take forever (literally) to load. This is really getting pathetic. The amount of problems i've had with this phone, not to mention the constant "loading" screen when i press the home key. FFS, i never had this many problems with my old iPhone 3GS.
Update: I've just done a scan with AVG and Lookout and both turned up nothing. Most likely that this is not a virus related issue then.
this is happening on the stock 2.17 firmware also
no notifications, if you look in the messaging app, new messages are there
i cant understand how htc cant fix this? its been present from 1.28 fw

a gmail virus? care to explain a bit more, like the name of it etc? i did have some problems where it wouldn't sync with the latest version but is now working ok..
If you text a hell of a lot like I do then the problem is the phone is trying to load all of the message threads as fast as possible. Which uses a **** ton of your RAM, hence the 3 minute wait. I current have the HTC one x+ but the phones are basically the same. Here's what i did for the same exact issues.
For constant overheating:
1.Let your phone die.
2.Put your phone in your freezer and let it sit for a few minutes until its pretty cold.
3.Fully charge your phone
4.If you havnt already done so, download the latest update for your phone
5.Turn on and keep the battery saver option on. You do not have to keep the brightness low though
For messaging issues:
Go in your messages and delete all of your old threads to people whom you no longer converse with.
Hi community,
I've been using my Htc one m8 (locked with Rogers) for a little over a year now with no issues. It's not rooted, running sense 6 android 5.0.1 for awhile.
All of a sudden several issues started creeping up: first double tap to wake up stopped working, and the shortcut to the camera (turning phone side ways and pressing volume down). Then the proximity sensor stopped working. later on i noticed that nfc wouldn't turn on and the phone didn't know if it was on landscape mode or portrait (making it an issue when viewing pictures or videos) and this were all in the lapse of 24hours.
so I factory reset it and it seemed to work for a couple of hours but then all the issues creeped back (NOT all at the same time). At this point I thought it was because of an app or my back up. SO factory reset it again and set up as new device but this time it didn't fix the issue at all .
After that I tried factory factory reset it a couple of more times with no success, tried having my phone fixed but I couldn't find a store in montreal that is willing to try and fix it (they all say if the open the phone they might wreak it ??!!)
Called htc they asking me to send the phone by mail for 100$ and then they'll tell me how much it cost to fix it.
As far as i know the phone didn't drop ! and has the latest updates
Can anyone help me? do you think flashin a rom will fix this or does it sound more like hardware issue?
I appreciate any help/tips you can give
thank you
Looks like you got not that much to lose. Try a different ROM.

If you're having reboot problems please post here - if there are problem apps or bad devices out there it would be good to know!
Got a new Nexus 5X yesterday for my partner. Plugged it in and charged all day (oh what patience). 10pm started setup and added account to it. Phone immediately did an update which succeeded. Then it started to install the saved apps from the Google account, about 50 in all. After all the apps were installed I handed it over to her to play and log into all those apps with logins. Tedious.
Within about 30 minutes she tried to take a photo and it rebooted. Then a bit later she was using it and it rebooted again. Before going to be it rebooted a few more times. Then again this morning. There wasn't one particular app or other that was in use when these crashes happened. During the day she saw a message about "Google needs to restart". Also the camera often comes up with an all black screen and can't be used.
I called Google tech support and they wanted to do a factory reset and maybe a cache partition wipe. They would also like to investigate if a rogue app is causing the crashes by using it without any apps installed. Because reinstalling apps is so tedious I decided to have her do a cache partition reset I'm awaiting news. I'm hoping we don't have to do the other... I can't imagine how a bad app could be causing such repeated crashes (well I can, but it just shouldn't happen). That's lame...
It would really help if it was easy to get a crash log and find out the cause - unfortunately unless you're rooted this doesn't seem to be easy, and may well be impossible.
I've been having a lot of similar-sounding issues with my 5X. It's never rebooted while I was using it, but once or twice a day I'll pull it out of my pocket and it will be off, awaiting the unlock pattern to boot up.
The camera has been atrocious as well. I've seen the black screen you describe, tons of rotation lag, hanging, etc. Not just in Camera, but in other apps using the camera (such as when attaching a photo to a Hangout). Hoping this is something software-related and not a hardware problem.
I've had mine spontaneously reboot twice so far, both times I've pulled it out of my pocket and it required the PIN to unlock, then it booted up. I'm a bit concerned, as I have no idea when this happened, and, since it's encrypted a reboot essentially puts me offline until I notice it.
I just now had mine reboot during active use for the first time. I was long-pressing a wifi network in order to forget it (which is another 5x problem I keep having—wifi turns itself off or connects to the wrong networks).
My 5x was working fine and the crashing started happening yesterday...
they only app that i recently installed before the crashes started was firefox... are you guys using firefox by any chance???
Mine is still working fine, I do not have Firefox.
Same problem for me when using Firefox. The phone seems to crash and reboot when loading news websites containing photos and videos.
Not seen the issue when not using Firefox.
I've had my nexus 5x since mid/late November 2015. I've had the problem described below happen prior to today, and more than once.
Today, I cant turn my phone off - it seems to be in the middle of a reboot... the four coloured circles (google logo?) with colours going round and round. I powered it off cos it had started going slow... thought a reboot might fix the problem... but now its not starting and I cant even turn it off or do anything with it.. I've tried pressing the power button, I've tried holding the power button down, and I've tried different combinations... nothing seems to make a difference... (has been in that state of un-useablity for at least 30 mins now)
Anyone else also having wi-fi issues where facebook has an error and "cant connect" ?
I had the same thing happen and returned the phone, it's the only solution I found. I factory reset multiple times, called up Google and they told me to safe boot. Right.. I was completely stock and it rebooted multiple times / day and I know what I'm doing too, for the most part anyway. Got a replacement device and it has not once rebooted no matter what I do. Camera, Chrome random apps caused a reboot, it's not that. It's a defective device and you need to get it replaced period.
I have the same thing and can't sent it back to google because I live outside the US.
I believe it is a manufacture defect as I tried everything with no success really annoying.
Stuck with a brick...

I used my phone completely stock for weeks and had zero issues, whereas I have a friend who ordered and received the phone at the exact same time (likely same mfg batch) and had issues. Difference between us two is that I'm a minimalist and only have about 50 apps installed, and he has a ton that he rarely uses and restores them every time.
I know it seems ridiculous, but having an android phone gives you more customization and your apps more power of the phone, so it's completely feasible for ONE rogue app to destroy performance and/or battery.
You guys might all want to try uninstalling apps one by one and figuring out which apps are killing performance. In particular, check out the running services (developer options -> running services) and see which apps are constantly running, since those are more likely to be the ones causing issues.
For example, I've used firefox (for adblocked browsing) for weeks recently, and can definitely say it's a pretty slow app, so if you're having issues on it, you may want to just use chrome or lightning browser.
I just ordered a replacement as well. Mine would reboot about 1 to 2 times a week right after the fingerprint unlock. Annoying as hell today because I was in the middle of a conf call.
