This is my third time losing my phone in five months. I was about to file a claim with asurion the other two times I paid right on the spot with my debit card and this times it's saying its my third time in a year and if I complete it I will lost the ERP part of my coverage. Does that mean if I ever lose my phone again I won't be able to get another? If that's so I will be very disappointed

How about you stop losing phones. I'd drop you from coverage too if I were them. Three is ridiculous.

I'm not glad about losing my phone it's horrible to go without a phone after all the rooting of a hardware 004 with that new hboot and setting it up with all the mods that I flashed makes it really depressing and on top of that I have to pay $100 every time I just payed my bill 7 days ago which is $171 with two lines. Now I have to pay another $100 and on top of that it sounds like they are saying if I lost my phone I can't get another after they send me a new one.....How can they do that it's not like people can always prevent loosing stuff :-(
Asurion has it limitations I mean 3 phones in 5 months ?
Sounds kinda like a scam to me but I could be wrong lol

The ESN's go bad what can I do with a paperweight evo? I'm sure I'm not the only person who lost a phone more than two times.....On the asurion home page it says 56% percent of people lose their phone once a month....i went almost three months without losing mines :-( they are aware that people lose stuff and don't always have control over losing stuff....
You are only covered for 3 new phones in a 12 month period. Yes if you get a new phone, you will not be covered again until a year has passed from you first claim I do believe. I am not exactly sure how the 12 month thing works, but if you call Sprint they can explain it to you, but yeah only allowed 3 phones in one year.
Oh Yeah, ever thought about installing Lookout or some other phone locator app? It can help you recover your lost or stolen phone. If I were you I would highly consider this.

Why the hell don't you put a program like lookout on it where you can remotely cause your phone to make a blaring siren noise so you can find it. It also has a gps feature where you can pinpoint your phones location and find it or who ever has it. There is also a remote wipe feature so that whoever finds your phone won't get your personal info. Lastly, you got to be a complete moron to loose a phone this big and this expensive.
3 times would indicate to them that it's equipment fraud.

I agree, the OP has NO argument here. If you lose a phone 3 times in less than 6 months, you have some problems. I would drop your coverage too if i were the insurance company. You need to learn to take care of your possesions. Insurance is supposed to be a last resort, not using it every other month.
I thought I was clumsy lol I dropped my palm pre so many times but my evo is my baby I'm not let anything hurt her lol

Dang. You need to like... I don't even know! Put a string on your phone somehow and wear it around your neck or something... it's pretty hard to lose a phone that many times!

Are you losing your phone at bars or clubs?
I only had one phone stolen and it was back when I was in high school. I went to a concert and was dancing with some random chick. The phone was on a belt clip that clipped in my pocket. By the time I realized it was gone the random chick was too. I learned my lesson from that day forward. Never dance reggaeton with a random chick while owning an expensive phone. Oh yeah and ditch the clip.
So you lose a $600 phone 3 times over a period of paying $42 for i.surance and $100 twice for replacements and you are mad at asurion? So $1800 worth of phones gone due to your irresponsibility of which youve paid $242 of and theyre the ones in the wrong?
The lack of taking responsibility here is astonishing

They will not stop giving you phones. If they do you can easily email the vice president of cs and he will forward your situation to a new dept who will take care of you no matter what. I was told by Sprint that I could not send any more heros in for repair or replacements due to the insurance limit even though the replacements they were sending me were complete garbage. I went as far as cancelling 2 lines and got no where with Sprint cs. It wasn't until I contacted the vice president of customer service and other CEOs that my situation was properly resolved promptly and correctly. So even though they say no if you birch to the right people they will say yes.

I recently rooted my Samsung epic 4g and installed cm7. By rooting my epic I knew I was voiding my manufacturer warrenty and that if my actions bricked my device that was on me to replace it. However, I am on the Sprint network and have been paying for "Total Equipment Protection." Two days after installing a new rom, I noticed my screen was highly distorted and by the end of the day the screen would only flicker. I discovered that the flex cable for the slide keyboard was worn and was in need of being replaced. After reading several posts on this website about sprint serviceing rooted phones with hardware problem, I decided I would call sprint and get some more information on the topic. The CSR informed me that sprint isn't really so hard on people with rooted phones and that any sprint repair center would still fix my phone under total Equipment Protection as it was damaged due to normal wear and tear of a piece of hardware. Acting on this information I went to the nearest repair center. When i went to check in my phone for service, I told the tech the phone was rooted and I was told that they would still service it. He told me that no, they wouldn't service it and he would make sure to flag my account and void my warranties. Now, a few days later, I have been too three repair centers and have been refused at all three. In fact, when i offered to pay for the service out of pocket, I was informed that my money "has no value here" and i should leave. I should add that I was very polite to the tech. Today I called Sprint again, and explained the situation. The rep told me that they should have serviced my phone under the total Equipment Protection "because with that, you could smash your phone with a hammer outside the store and it would still be covered ( with deductibles of course). ". So here I am, I had to get a new phone because corporate Sprint says one thing, but local Sprint stores say the opposite.
Is there any sort of formal policy letter released by Sprint to address this complete breakdown of communications? I keep seeing people refering to it, but after all this Id love to get my hands on something.
I'm not sure where this thread should actually go, sorry if its misplaced, I just figured this is something that should be addressed if for nothing else, to prevent a situation like mine from ruining someone else's day .
Searched the Epic 4G sub forums using the keywords "root policy", and the result was halfway down the first page.

That's crap I feel for ya that's a load of bs but it is usally smarter to play stupid than tell them straight up its rooted I hate local reps who think their The Ultimate Being of all things righteous and technilogical....

At this point its too late, the rep at one of the stores blacklisted my device and banned it from the network as if it was reported stolen. I have been on the phone with sprint all morning and they have refused any form of service, insurance, credit, anything. At this point I'm leaving Sprint. Very unfortunate as I've been with them since January 07.

Emailed sprints ceo and hoping something comes of it, like maybe a policy letter from the ceo could get the local stores to do there job. Either way, ill upload a copy of the email conversation when i hear back from him or his assistant.
Email Sprints CEO with a copy of their own handling policy for root devices. Basically they are told to flash it to stock firmware. If problem persists, repair or replace the device and "note" the device was rooted. If unable to flash stock firmware, "note" device was rooted and replace the device. Nowhere in their own policy does it state "you have the right to refuse service to a rooted customer and blacklist their device" or anything of the like.

A few months ago the screen slowly started turning red on my epic, then purple, then black. You could still see a few lines of pixels right along the edge showing the screen was on, but otherwise it was useless.
I went to the sprint store and had them look at it. I mentioned it was rooted, the guy said no problem, it looks like a hardware issue covered under your warranty. They ordered me a new epic, but since it was a couple weeks out on backorder, they sent me to another store that went ahead and replaced my screen for free (other store had an extra one for that use) while I waited for a new phone. After the repair I would have canceled the new phone, but the wifi and cell signal took a drop from having the phone opened. Long story short, at the end of the week, my replacement arrived, they set it up, and I was out the door. Gave them my rooted/ROM'd/overclocked epic4g and they gave me back the battery and SD card. They even gave me a free water bottle.
This cost me $0, a couple hours, and was nothing but a good experience. The guy there said they never turn rooted phones down for unrelated hardware failures. A separate store in Colorado helped my mother set up PDAnet tethering on her phone so she could check her email on her computer without paying for wifi tethering. Never seen a company so committed to their customers, at least in my experience.

One recommendation that I can offer u is, report this issue to the fcc, and send a copy of ur email to the fcc right to sprints ceo. And emphasize that u did report to fcc. Major customer service complaints do get handled by the fcc. And also state that u felt discriminated against.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Omg LOL I was literally just in the process of researching what kind of FCC complaint I could make LOL but thanks for the effort to assist me, I do appreciate it. As an update, I haven't heard backfrom Dan Hesse but I'm still waiting.
Continue sending him an email. Do it as many times as u need to. That needs to get his attention and resolved appropriatly. Sprints main focus now is "customer satisfaction". Also, if u were able to get the names of the reps that caused u this problem, place that in the email as well. Be specific on every detail of the occurence. This will show to the ceo, factual evidence and discrimination. Also, report it to the better business bereau. They accredit all compaines.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Sprint is no longer concerned with customer satisfaction. Those days are passed. They are only concerned with saving their business now. That is why they locked down on moving upgrades and releasing people from ETFs. I have had several drawn out arguments with Executive office and they won't budge.

So today I called sprint and told them I had crappy service at my house, so he starts asking the usual questions, (I also a new customer since last November, not sure if it matters) so then he tells I might qualify for airave. He asked me if I had hi speed internet, said yes, the he said it was going to pay $130 onetime fee no monthly fee also! I played stupid and I said "what that is crazy, how come my cousin got it for free?" (that was a lie lol) so he says hmmm really give one second ill see if can work something out..... He comes back and said well I talked to my boss and he said you can have it for free. Sweet!!! But I did have crappy service! But ever since that call im getting better 4G, but still two bars, I dont care cuz I mostly text and email.

I said that exact same thing a while back and unplugged mine. Then later I plugged it back in because I really do get poor reception at my house SOMETIMES.
It seems the problems I had with my Airrave, I could have avoided by simply leaving my phones Wi-Fi turned off. I spoke with Sprint and it seems there's some type of conflict if you turn your phones wi-fi on and try to use the Airrave at the same time? they say "some" devices are luckey and can do both..My Epic Touch was one of the luckey ones "most of the time..except for text messages. For some reason, I wasn't always getting my texts?
Now I really like my Airrave and think its a great service (specially for FREE) I just have to remember two things:
1) At home, leave my phone's wi-fi turned off.
2) As I drive away from my house and decide to place a call I have to make sure I wait till I'm clear of my router, because for some reason the Airrave has a tough time switching from the router to a normal Sprint tower. If I don't the call tends to drop and I end up having to try again.
Other than this, I think its a screeming good deal though, THANKYOU Sprint!
The problem with the airave is that you have to have a good upload Internet connection. If you seed or use upload bandwidth while your talking people can't hear you that we'll.
I also got the Airave for free, I recently moved to Texas, and I have almost no signal in my house. The first day in the house, I have missed at east 6 phone calls.
After I phone call, Sprint sent me an Airave at no charge and it solved the problem. I can now use my phone and place phone calls!
I have been with Sprint for 9 years and I can only praise their customer service.
Well I guess it wouldn't be that useful for me since my reception is fine, but network speeds are slow. My home wifi is amazing though so I don't really use mobile network unless outside

I did not dismiss your issue, but rather the way you feel of getting whats "entitled to you" if you truly have bad service then we can see that, there is absolutely no need to lie to a rep to prove your point and get something that that "could be" free because you read it on some blog, and to be quite honest im not attacking you im just trying to show you the current problem with some sprint customers.....cut out the drama queen theatrics and lies then ill be happy to send you the airave for free since you are having signal issues and ready to cancel, that sentence would be enough for me to send that device for free......do you see where im going with this.....your lie was completely unnecessary and just makes my job that much worse when I deal with this issues 40 times a day, 5 days a week

hey I agree with you, the system isn't perfect, so I understand your frustration of getting wrong information but the credits will dry up and the only way our reps will get trained better is to have more funding for classes and education of correct information, which in turn means less credits anyway....so you and I want the same thing actually

I moved over a year ago to an area far outside Tampa florida and ended up getting one as well. its funny seeing peoples faces when I refer to it as my own personal tower.. it has made a big difference. I didn't lie about getting for free, once they looked up my zip code they said it would be on its way no cost as long as I keep in good standing. I knew there is a reason I put up with Sprint for 12 years..
congrats!

I bought a new Note 2 from an Authorised T-Mobile store for a price which was about 100 dollars less than what most T-mobile stores sell. It came in a non T-mobile box and didn't have t-Mobile branding on the back which I never noticed until I got home. It had the normal sticker on the side of the box with the IMEI, SGH-T889 model number and SKU etc etc. I put my sim in fired it up and went to phone info. It showed T-Moble and showed there was software update which it did. Phone starts up with usual T-mobile startup movie thing and seems to work ok. in my apartment I was only getting edge but out and about it shows LTE and 4G. The edge thing bugged me (my Nexus 4 gets 3G and H in the same place) and I went to a T-Mobile Chat with a rep and they checked the IMEI and guess what... they say ....."Based on our records, the phone is not verified as a T-Mobile phone". WTF!!!!!!
Obviously I'm heading back to the store tomorrow, but anyone know what is going on? Anyone heard of this before. Is it a "gray market" phone if such things exist. The store looks like it is authorised. T-Mobile sign on outside wall and all t-Mobile branding and handsets inside.
Totally new one on me.
Probably the tmobile rom loaded onto a n7100, that's the only thing I can think of. That still doesn't explain the, label "t889" you said...strange

It gets better. the battery doesn't have any Samsung marking on it and when I looked at the label under the battery it does show the little Samsung Logo, gives the FCC ID and says rated 3.8V ------- 1,300mA
I'm not much with electrical stuff but the battery says 3100mAh. does 1,300mA equate to 3100mAh. I guess mA = miliamps and mAh is miliamp hours. My first though was that the label in the phone was misprinted and it should say 3100mA and not 1300mA.
Definitely interesting stuff for me
Can you post some screen shots man?

Thats normal. I cant explain it, but based off about 5 legit direct from tmo sght889's, they all said that.
First thing coming to my mind is that someone got a bootleg phone, purchased a real one aswell, said it messed up, and returned the bootleg one to the tmo store. Then somehow they got it to u.

You just better hope they let you exchange it. You dont want them to tell you that they cant because its a phony phone and blaming you that you swaped the legit one to that one.

If it was an official T-Mobile store, they would've checked the phone's IMEI to verify.
If anything, OP said the store looked like it was authorized. Just because they have T-Mobile stickers on the window pane and sell t-mobile phones doesn't make it a T-Mobile phone. They're just a dependent authorized reseller and to be honest, t-mobile has little to no business as to how the operate.
Pictures please so we know what exactly what you are seeing.
Guys thanks for your thoughts. Went back to the store, they basically said "tough doodoos". $70 restocking fee...... We tested the phone and it would get LTE/4G and 1 bar. It was therefore working fine according to them. His note 2 was pulling down some insane speed of over 20 megawoopdeedoos on speedtest. Mine was lucky to connect. If I set the network to 4G/3G/2G it wouldn't get any signal at all. Just a circle with a line through it. Called the T-Mobile tech line. This guy said yes it was a verifiable T-Mobile phone. What.... but your colleague last night said it wasn't............ Seller refused to swop or refund so I left. Went to T-Mobile store. They said it was probably a refurb phone and that basically it was a crapshoot with them and that they couldn't help. They gave me a new sim card in case it was the problem but no change. Phone seems to cycle from no signal to 3 bars on E to 1 bar on LTE/4G to no signal at all just sitting on my desk.
Unfortunately I paid with a debit card. the store wouldn't accept credit cards. The charge is still pending but Chase said they couldn't stop it. However as the phone is defective / suspect, advertised as new but probably a refurb they said to contact claims once the charge has gone through and they will see about reversing it. No idea if that will be successful. So ultimately, I might get a refund. If not I guess I could try Samsung and see if it can be looked at / repaired. I could start flashing Roms and play with it or I could throw it through the shops window
I have to say that this has turned out like a twilight zone episode...hmmmm, what's that music...dee,dee,dee dee, dee, dee, dee dee.......
Oh and just for clarification. The area I am in has great coverage. Spent about 30 mins on the chat with a T-mobile guy today trying to troubleshoot the connection problems.
You can try this app out to see if it is a genuine note 2 t889. Otherwise it might just be a modem or rom issue if it is a genuine unless theres broken internal parts.

That is unreal man. I would be so upset at them not exchanging it, but unfortunately for you it tested out fine.
Crazy how two different reps said two different things.
Feel for you man. Hope you get refunded and things work out.

Thanks. Downloaded it and it says its genuine SGH-T889 which is what the 2nd T-Mobile guys con firmed.
OK, here the question to the knowledgeable guys out there.....
I immediately updated the phone as soon as I got it. Could the update have been bad and shagged the radio or maybe the initial ROM flash have been bad? I guess I could go do a complete restore using Odin and see what happens. Is there anyway of doing it so it doesn't trip the flash counter? I'd hate to end up taking it to Samsung if that's my only option and they say I did the dirty deed and they won't touch it.

Im not expert but possibly you could turn off lte and switch apn to old one and try speed test again. It helped me with my slow speeds after update.

When a retailer doesn't accept credit cards, that should raise a red flag concerning the legitmacy. Debit cards are less secure since it's a direct line to your bank account. Besides that, there isn't any difference between debit and credit, provided they are the same (ie Visa, MasterCard, etc). I almost never use my debit card except to acess an ATM. Even if it was an international version, it shouldn't have issues connecting to T-Mobile's network.

Yea I feel like a bit of a donkey..... I never even thought about it...I'm a trusting sod....thou art too full of the milk of human kindness .. as lady Macbeth said.... and they looked like genuine T-Mobile extravaganza. Well I guess tomorrow the charge will go through and I'll see if Chase can do something. Believe me it would give me the greatest of pleasure to be able to walk into the shop and plonk the phone on the counter, smile and bid the guy good day
This story. .....Just doesn't add up. ....whether you paid full retail or not you have 14 days or 30 days for a full refund or exchange. ..how you buy a device , then the next day you accept being denied a refund or exchange -_- , and T-Mobile can tell if a device is refurbish or not. ......try again with this story, just doesn't add up

This is indeed an odd story...you mentioned you bought the phone from an authorized tmobile dealer so I dont understand why they cant exchange it or provide a refund? ??

So I'm posting this while on hold (for about 18 minutes now) with tech support. Anyone else having issues with the airave on the east coast? I'm in Maryland. All lights are green, tried the basic troubleshooting of restarts, but I still don't hear the 3 chimes and I'm having issues sending and receiving texts and phone calls.
There was a message on the tech support line about subscribers in Chicago experiencing my symptoms, but the fact that they named a specific city throws me off.

Apparently there is an "outage" that is being worked on. It's sad that I have to rely on this pos device to give me workable service in my area, yet according to all the folks in customer service, they show good coverage in my area so I can't get out of this contract. I swear, come August/September when they announce the new Iphone, I'm jumping ship and going to another carrier, even if I just end up getting the Note II again. And I will gladly have my ETF go to collections. Rant over.

I missed it. I wish I knew what you suggested. Oh well. Either way, I've been having issues with my airave too. I'm in Florida. But thing is, I would need a similar unit with Verizon and tmobile so either way I'm staying at least till end of my current contract. Data may be slow but it's improving and when I have signal I never have a dropped call.

About that... Verizon's version of the Airave will cost you at least $150. As with everything else with Verizon, they want your money.
Had the same problem sprint had to send me a new airave model because the original one would not accept the upgrade. The new model is smaller and works better then the old one.
