Sprint has been frustrating me for the last year, with dropped calls, no service, slow data speeds, when I had amazing speeds, and great coverage from May 2007 - Jan 2011. So, I switched to Big Red. I know it costs more, but I'm getting what I pay for.
The Epic 4G Touch is probably the best phone I've ever owned. And I've enjoyed the support it has received from the talented devs. I really hope Sprint gets its act together, and fixes their network, as I know I'm not the only one who has been complaining about Sprint service.
Maybe I'll be back one day. Keep fighting the good fight. I hope Sprint comes through for you.

I left verizon to go to sprint because my wife didn't want to leave. I struggled for almost 2 years w that crap. I left and went back to verizon recently and we are about to get 4g lte here. I couldn't be happier. Once she comes over I will be paying $20 more a month for vastly different service. Sprint would have been nice had they given what they offered. She has the gs2 also and while its a fantastic phone it is poorly represented on sprints terrible network in my area.
You won't be sad to be paying more. No more mad at the world because I can't receive an mms lol.
I did have to pay to get out of my contract (my phone was the only one with remaining time). I read the ETF fee schedule, and I calculated my ETF at $160. I was hoping to get out of my ETF by using the change in the way Sprint discounts the family plans. I missed the deadline by a few days. However, they said my ETF was $90. And, by buying the phones through Amazon, we saved $400. I'll just put my 4G Touch up for sale, as well as the wife's Evo 4G, and I will more than pay for the cost of the phones, as well as the ETF. I will probably be able to pay most of the first month's bill with that, too.

I take it there is a good back-story with this? I'm not up on my politics in this forum, so you will have to forgive me...
I have E4GT as private phone and iPhone 4S from VZM as a business phone.
I know those are different phones with different hardware/software but I counldn't help to notice that I always have better signal and reception with my E4GT.
In some areas where I don't have reception at all with my iPhone I'm still getting signal on my E4GT.
And I moved to sprint from AT&T 2.5 years ago because in my area AT&T had a worse service/signal ever.
So may be sprint is not a fastest network but so far it was the best for me for area where I leave and where I travel most.

How'd you get them to waive it? My data dips as low as 0.05 mbps on Long Island. It feels like 56k dialup. I don't know how Sprint can legally sell data plans on Long Island. It's soooo bad and it's only getting worse. The tower upgrades did NOTHING.
I really don't want to spend hours on the phone trying to convince 10 different reps to waive the ETF. I'm thinking of just paying the $350 ETF, selling the phone on ebay, and switch to AT&T or Verizon. At least their data works here.
What's the alternative? Keep spending $90/month for a data plan that I can't use? Absolutely ridiculous.

Swamp Goblin is a dev who happens to be looking for an E4GT so he can start working on new ROM goodness for our phones. He's been looking on Craigslist and ebay but don't think he's had any real success yet. There's a thread that explains it all if you want to contact him.

Also I think sextape (again not an inside joke) might be looking for one, but don't quote me on that.
I would go to At&t before Verizon. You know At&t is a union company. If my family didn't work for Sprint that is where i would go. At least you know their employees get treated better.

WE have been duped by Sprint people. Go to their website and you will notice the announcement of the iPhone 4Gs. You can even pre order it. This privilege was not given for the Samsung Galaxy S 2 ET4G.
Why...was this you say...it's obvious that Sprint knew it had made a deal to buy a **** load of IOS devices to secure this deal with Apple.so they didn't promote the galaxy ET4g. Now they have a big announcement tomorrow. They are going out of their way to let you pre order the iPhone as well.
Sad, and yes I feel they used us to get this deal, by canceling all perks, while giving us crappy service. My Photon has a red circle and no service, and I don't have a ET4G yet. Service has been terrible most of the summer all over NY and in mid town NYC.
If service was being interrupted to better service I may stick around, but not getting signal, failed messages, and paying for it and no credit with lies is unacceptable. Not being able to pre-order the phone I wanted because they made a deal with Crapple is also unforgivable. Price isn't the only thing that matters in a business relationship. It's I pay for service and expect to have it when I want it, not when you decide to give it.
Hell I was told by a customer service rep that I should be happy because I have had a lot of usage on my line. I then said yes that is true, but when I need my service to work it failed to deliver....I missed important calls. and meetings with people because of failed service.
People were telling me when they called the phone rang 3x's and hung up no message was able to be left. Others told me that they would get a network busy message please try again later. One rep verified this condition of calling me, and could not get through. The phone rang 3x's and the line just went dead when they called. I have been to tech centers, and have made many battery pulls, and software reboots, and finally I was told that there was a net work issue and they did not know when it would be cleared. Now when I call to talk about it they put me on hold no music and never come back to talk.
I just don't see it getting better, and when the next generation of phones IE Prime or what ever hits Verizon, and this is not cleared I am gone. When I feel I have to beg for service, or a credit for not receiving service after paying my bills for 15 years, and at one point having a $300 a month phone bills for business it's time to go.
My bill analysis shows that I average 240 msg a month, and average about 2g of data a month, and since I use my phone mostly for calls a Verizion 69.00 phone plan with 10 data, and 10.00 for data equals what I am paying now. So if this doesn't clear with the loss of perks I am outta here.lol
My service is better than ever...by far too. I never saw over 8Mbps download speed in Los Angeles on 4G and now....

When sprint cancelled premiere the writing was on the wall. It was on your august bill statement. In addition, sprint raised the admin fee by 50cents which invalidated every contract. Also on your bill statement.
Then sprint raised ETF from $200 to $350. Then they changed 30 day phone trials to 14 days. All this in september.
I am here on this board with an E4GT because of these changes - I had to get my final premiere upgrade prior to 10/2/2011. Otherwise I was fully planning on just waiting another month for nexus prime.
Now the E4GT has serious radio issues. Like OP, I had calls go to voicemail for hours at a time. Others have LOS, dropped calls, no signal bars, phone refuses to roam, etc.
Sprint's CEO said that 54% of sprint customer churn is due to not having an iphone. Thats a pretty hard fact to not pay attention to.
It is clear sprint is putting all eggs in one basket - the iphone basket. Sprint has lost money for 15 straight quarters. This will either save sprint or ruin sprint.
I've been with sprint 10 years now, and im no iphone fan. THe writing is on the wall: We'll let you keep your android devices and stay on our network, but we really don't care about you now. Of course I knew all this over a month ago and I was still willing to sign a 2 year contract in september for the Epic 4g touch. That was before all the LOS issues arose.
We'll see what the next 2 years brings. But the days of customer loyalty perks, retention plans, etc are clearly over.
I just switched from verizon to sprint, so I can give you a good preview of what to expect.
First of all, the service is top notch, and the lte speeds were incredible - I regularly got over 20 mbps in my area, many times close to 30. Of course, keep in mind that their lte service is fairly new, and at the time they only had 3 expensive phones that could use it, so that will likely change as more people upgrade and the network gets saturated.
So why did I leave this awesome service? Price. Everything across the board is way more expensive - service and phones. I paid $50 more for a Droid Charge than I did for my E4GT, and that phone isn't even in the same league. For our family plan with unlimited text, only 700 minutes, 2 data plans and 2 other phones, it was $230 a month. Our kids wanted smartphones too, but to add 2 more data plans would have put our bill up to $300. I'm not broke, but not rich either, and that cost is pretty hard to justify.
Also, keep in mind that all those policies Sprint just changed are the same policies Verizon has - 14 day return, $350 etf (even after being way overcharged on the phones up front), and no more New Every Two program.
The only carrier I've found with good pricing and great coverage (in my area) is Tmo, and I almost jumped to them, but no way in hell I want to risk being an att customer again.

Amen. I am tired of flipping on Roam Control and dealing on 1x every time I enter a building. What good is unlimited 3g if it is slow as molasses, and 4g which is spotty and hardly ever works indoors? At this point, I am off contract and if Prime comes to VZW and is not full of bloat I may be gone.

I am not just talking 3g/4G.....I get a red circle with a line almost daily. I have been missing calls. getting network busy try back later errors, and not receiving calls for hours a day. I missed getting calls with 4-5 bars in mid town Manhattan, and people told me the phone just rang 3 times and stopped ringing with no option to leave a voice mail. Others were told to "try back later network busy". This can only get worse if iPhone is coming. Im tired of sprint, ive been screwed out of an upgrade and there was countless times fraud occured while on my parents family plan through assurion but thats besides the point. im on my own plan now and the unlimited speeds are painfully slow not to mention the 4g i pay for thats not in available in my area.my question is this, if i roam over 300 megs of data a month i understand that sprint will cancel me and that is what i want but will there be an ETF? if anyone knows or has had experience with this please let me know. i apologize for posting this, i know its been discussed before but from what i read i was only seeing people who were upset about being canceled but im wanting to use this to get canceled but i was unable to determine if there will be an ETF, thanks for your help.
A) how were you screwed out of an upgrade? If there has been a legitimate error it can be corrected. For example if you returned a product but your contract didn't get reset.
B) what 4G are you paying for? Sprint doesn't charge extra for 4g,only for smartphone access.
C) using too much roaming data is technically grounds for charges by the mb, plus termination with etf still being charged. In practice, it is usually just a friendly parting of ways.
If you were unhappy with the speeds you shouldn't have signed a contract, or returned the device during the return policy. The speeds are not appreciably different now vs 8 months ago. In my area they have improved noticeably.

i think i may attempt this with you. using my basic logic im thinking if they "boot you" then you wouldn't have to pay etf cause u didn't et. but as we all know basic logic was thrown out the window by cellular companies so i could be wrong. I'm just thinking that's why people go to the measures they do, to get canceled by sprint thus avoiding the etf. actually i just made up my mind, i will join you on this journey. new orleans and surrounding areas has been **** since b4 katrina. seems veriz and tmob are the only ones with good/great service around here.

i apologize that was a bit of a rant i should also mention i work in a different location and the speeds there are terrible but but i was refferering to the premium data charge "4g" of which is not available in my area and will not be since sprint is abondaning development for their wimax. and as far as the upgrade my last upgrade with sprint was somewhere around 2008 id say i still should have had my upgrade available due to one of my parents letting me use their upgrade to get a new device but somehow or another both my upgrade and parents upgrades were used and as far as signing a contract i didnt i perfromed a latteral transfer which allows me to pay for my own bill with out having to buy out of my parents contract although i checked yesterday and i believe it extended two years while my next upgrade isnt available for another 363 days but you do think they will charge the etf?

megs of roaming won't ever get you kicked off. Yes, they can charge you overages AND an etf if they wish, and they have on occasion. Most the time they don't though.

Eh, no big deal to me. But it sucks for those that take advantage of it. Thanks for sharing.
Yea its not earth shattering but its just another broken link in the chain of bad decisions by Sprint lately. The sad part is you sit back and go what next...
In my point of veiw all sprint has done the last year is raise cost for us! We customers who wanted 4g and bought the evo 4g most never seen or connected to 4g. 3G speeds are beyond terrible and downright bog to 1X kind of speed during busy hours. At this point the cost between Sprint and verizon service is closing more and more as we speak. So I can expect many more customers to think, Why not go to a service with great data and call connectivity. Sprint really had a good think going with cost effective plans, but since have taken away many things like discounts on all lines, premier customers, ect ect. I know they are still cheaper but for how long and when will we see good data speeds like other companies? We are dead last in that!
How on earth is two weeks early costly?
Personally my biggest regret is getting my S2...not because I don't like the phone, but Sprint's data service is just godawfully slow. I bet I use less than 50M a month. The second I get home I go to WiFi and when I'm out and about I just don't bother as the 3G is a joke.
Unless Sprint gets LTE here in Iowa by mid 2013, I'll pay the early termination fee for our lines and go to Verizon. When I'm a meeting a work I'll have my coworker look stuff up on his Galaxy Nexus...with the 8-12 MB download speeds from Verizon.
Life could certainly be worse, but my data speeds have nowhere to go but up.
I don't see this as a big deal whatsoever. The last line of the memo is the most important Imo. Everyone is eligible for upgrade the 1st of the month their contract is up. What more can you ask for?
As far as sprint saving money, not sure how really. I mean by allowing an early upgrade they are guaranteeing 22 months of payment out of you. Most of us would use that 2 weeks to get a new phone on launch, right? What happens when instead of getting a launch phone with them early, another carrier has a new phone being released when your contract is up? I'm blabbing, but what I'm saying is if they let me upgrade a little early I would be more likely to stay with that provider. But if I wait then I'm suddenly out of contract, which would make me shop around carriers.
Tl;dr
I see potential loss here, because they are basically giving sprint customers a reason to shop around while off contract instead of always keeping us in contract by allowing early upgrades.

ib4 'would this allow me to get out w/o paying ETF', 'is this a breach of contract?', etc
Figures... Admittedly the 3g speeds are ridiculously slow... The only thing keeping me with sprint is the unlimited data... When that goes out the window so do I...

Exactly, if you treat this as a separate event then its not a big deal but if you start to add up all that has happened in the past year and since the Iphone came aboard and it may upset you especially if you took 2 minutes to have this page refresh due to network restraints....

Yeah, I do wish I had verizon for their great coverage, thats what I had before my parents kicked me off of their plan.
But hey I don't mind my virgin mobile: 1200min/unlimited text/unlimited data for $40 a month. I am pretty happy with that. Even have unlimited wimax 4g
I will probably switch over to sprint in a year or two though when I can afford it better.
chadillac3 said:
Personally my biggest regret is getting my S2...not because I don't like the phone, but Sprint's data service is just godawfully slow. I bet I use less than 50M a month. The second I get home I go to WiFi and when I'm out and about I just don't bother as the 3G is a joke.
Unless Sprint gets LTE here in Iowa by mid 2013, I'll pay the early termination fee for our lines and go to Verizon. When I'm a meeting a work I'll have my coworker look stuff up on his Galaxy Nexus...with the 8-12 MB download speeds from Verizon.
Life could certainly be worse, but my data speeds have nowhere to go but up.

i live in Iowa as well. all my friends have Verizon as well. they do have nice service but they can only use 2gb a month or they pay out the ass. i get around 1mb down most days and i use about 10-16gb of data per month. my bill has never gone up and no one at sprint cares.

I think this is a good move. You guys that are complaining about it need to see what we see in the stores. This 14 day early deal is confusing to customers and abused by third party stores. The cost savings are in reduced overrides that are done when customers come in confused. Id rather have a consistent, fair policy than one that can be used to work the system by some and not taken advantage of by others. The upgrade now promo is a perfect example of a policy change that makes sense. Customers in March could pay to reset their upgrade regardless of the plan they were on. Instead of yearly upgrades for customers on expensive plans, now anyone could get it with a little extra cash if they need it.

Don't let my girlfriend see your posts. She has a Verizon Gnex but the 4g is nearly useless. We live an hour away from the Quad Cities and Verizon's 4g only covers the core of that area.
At least with Sprint, there's no teasing just out of range prospect of 4g!

She should be getting LTE by end of this year, though...with Sprint...I may be retired before it happens.

cause if you do it everytime you can over 54 years you just got a free phone.
I've had T-Mobile & a GS3 for 30 days. Works great in the city. This last weekend I went to my wife's family's house to do some hunting and spend time at their cabin. We go there a couple times a month... which I would consider to be quite often. T-mobile was basically nonfunctional. Couldn't even send a text. Phone didn't say "No Signal"... but nothing would even work, network wise. According to the coverage map, it should work. So today on my lunch I speak with a woman over T-mobile support chat. She sounded pretty optimistic that they would take care of me, but I had to call in.
I got home from work and called in... the lady understood my issues and got me over to retention. The lady in retention wanted to know where it was I was struggling with service... so she looked it up on her end. She looked it over using words like "sketchy" and "I can see it probably wouldn't work indoors" and "well, Sir, it's a cell phone... it's not going to work everywhere." She was almost snippy with me... despite the fact I was 100% calm and overly polite. She would give me no leeway since I was outside the 14 day return policy. She only offered paying full term fees or transferring to a family member. CDMA providers in the area have pretty good service. I simply want to return everything and jump over to CDMA. No hard feelings!
Does anyone have any advice or know someone with a little clout within T-mobile? This is going to be a rough two years if not....
I think if it's such an issue pay the 250 termination fee and move on. Research should have been done prior to signing up or test signal issues within the 14 days you had. Good luck

I hear ya. As mentioned I did check the maps. In reality what is a person supposed to do? Take a car tour of everywhere they might go within their 14 day "trial period"?
There are two biweekly periods in a month you said you go there a few times a month which is at least 3....
Does the place have internet? Wifi calling is awesome. Every single carrier map shows my house having service but it doesn't. Only wifi calling can work here.
I'd try calling again. If a supervisor refuses, then get the unlock code and sell your phone to someone with ATT. You'll probably make money.
To be honest there is nothing you can do. For starters that's not your home address so T mobile does not care because that's not your address on your bill, secondly and very sad to say say you're out of your 14 days even if that was your home address T Mobile would not let you out of a contract without paying the ETF. That's one ****ty thing about T Mobile they are notorious for things like that, once you're outta your 14 day trial if you have no service at your house the only way to get out of the contract is pay your ETF.

How much did you pay for the phone? If it was 199, see if you can sell it for like 500. Use 250 towards termination fee and the rest towards a new phone on cdma.

Yeah... the Wi-Fi calling is nice if there's good Wi-Fi around. I spend a lot of time in the outdoors, though.
The only other option which might not help for your situation is that they can provide indoor cell phone repeaters. If you ask nicely I think they might even comp one for you. That would help if you were having trouble in the cabin, but not outside but I don't think that's the case from some of the comments you made. On the other hand, a cell phone repeater with remote antenna mounted on the roof might be just enough to bridge the gap at least while you're in the cabin itself.
And when you're outside - shouldn't you be communing with nature?

Funny you say this! We actually just put in a Wilson repeater system at the cabin. Works excellent when your inside... but that isn't very often! Even then the CDMA rocks the GSM.
When we're hunting we use cell phones as a primary mode of communication. The Wisconsin DNR makes two way radios illegal while hunting... but you can text or make phone calls legally. Kind-of a dumb rule this day and age, right? :silly:
That's the stupidest rule I've heard of lol. I wonder if you can use wifi calling while tethered to a friends phone. You should use the buddy system anyways
Maybe you can build a pringle can antenna?
Before you go paying EFT.. try posting on a cell swapper site and see if someone will take your plan, maybe even pay something for your phone.

One of the bad things about T-Mobile is their spotty coverage. In a big city its great and so-so in a smaller city. You get out in the boonies and is very hit or miss, mostly miss....
Sorry man.

My thoughts exactly. And I definitely spend time in the boonies.
Anyhow... my phone sold on Craigslist for $400. Had a ton of interest. $200 to ETF and $200 towards what I paid for the phone. All in all i'm only out $50 and the service for the month. Ordering Verizon today. I definitely don't like their new plan structure... but in my case you just have to go with what works best in your next of the woods. Looked at Sprint because of their better plans... but they are like the roaming Nazis. If you go over 300 meg of data or a certain fraction of your plan's minutes on someone else's network they will drop your a$$. Happened to my brother. One day they just called and said were turning off your service tomorrow. You roam too much... get a different carrier.
Thanks for all the tips guys. I'll be around... just in a different section of the forums. Still going to get a GS3! :good:
This happened to me with Verizon a few years back. About a month into service problems started to occur. Even the sales reps verified the issues. I called corporate every 5 or so days to report dropped calls and no data signal issues. After about 6 months of swapping phones they offered to let me go without an ETF.

Did not realize they still did that crap. Almost a decade ago, if you roamed 50% or more they dropped you, and made you pay eft.

yeah I don't doubt that! This is the sole reason I didn't get sprint. 300 meg?! That's nothing in today's world. A good carrier needs to be a little bit lenient on the roaming business in order to provide adequate coverage.
Sorry to say but the cabin sound like its in the middle of nowhere. Any mountains around, that will make it worse? My gf parents live in the "boonies" and neither of us get a signal (she has Verizon, I have Tmo).

As long as they don't mess with our prices and speed up the 4G rollout I'm happy
It would be great if we could get better roaming rates in Japan, but I don't think it works that way, does it? I don't think T-Mobile users in the USA get cheaper roaming in Germany.

They negotiating to get a 2/3 stake in Sprint... to get access to Clearwires spectrum that should be global in a few years...
If this helps improve their network, I'm all for it.

This has some potentials.
2/3 owning state in Sprint would give control to them.
It would give Sprint a pretty healthy infusion of cash.
It gives Softbank access to more spectrum.
It gives Softbank the roaming agreements in the USA that it wanted.
It gives Softbank access to more phone systems they may want and possibly in reverse to Sprint.
It'll drive Sprint's stock price up. Short term anyway.
It has the potential to make Softbank/Sprint and everything else they own one of the largest global cell providers.
More than likely Sprint will continue to be treated independently in the USA under the guiding hand of them. Until they figure out what they want, I suspect pricing, unl data, etc won't change for awhile. After 2 years, anyone's guess tho.
Makes me sad because the possibility of Google buying Sprint goes down further

TMo and Sprint are definitely seeing gains from Verizon's apathy toward its customers. This Network Vision could really change the game.
We may see a lot of new devices come out too
i knew my "$10 premium data fee" on 4 lines was being used for something!!! it darn sure hasn't been used for getting me "premium data" since I started paying it over 2 1/2 yrs ago!!
"By raising some new equity directly, Sprint would be able to shore up its balance sheet and potentially fund other deals such as a buyout of Clearwire in which it already holds roughly 48 percent."

Give it up already. Same post in a few different threads now? C'mon man.
We get it...you hate Sprint and everything about them. Obviously that statement pertains to the cash they'd receive in selling a majority stake in their company.
I wouldn't fathom some of that money we've all been paying has gone towards the biggest network upgrade any cell provider has ever gone through...upgrading every single of their 30,000+ towers? No, it couldn't be something like that.

and your last comment makes no sense!!!!
"Sprint, whose market capitalization was $15.12 billion at Wednesday's market close, is the third-largest U.S. carrier, with more than 56 million users at the end of June, even after losing customers for years.'
Now, how do you lose customers for years and have market capitalization GO UP????????????????? over the last few years?...you charge them ridiculous meaningless fees..and reduce their discounts!!!!thats how!!
