Keep app open? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I was wondering how I can block applications in memory, because I keep facebook messenger open to receive notifications in real time, or at least open it immediately.
So go with a launcher that can be done, but I would use another launcher .. how can I do?
Thanks to all!

If you want to stop Fb messenger from closing use Zep's supercharger script and bulletproof it.

Autostarts - opinions, settings?

Does anyone use this app? I've installed it out of curiosity and found TONS of apps that start after boot. Will pruning down this list speed up my phone at all?
I've disabled some of the apps I never use such as Mail, FM Radio, Facebook for HTC Sense, Flickr, etc. Can I go further and disable apps I DO usem but stop them starting on their own?
Some of the ones I'm thinking of are Peep, FaBook Chat, HTC Widget Downloader.
And what's Open Sense Plugin Manager?
Can I disable Bug Report? Is Rosie Utility needed since I run ADW Launcher?
Updater? DRM Protected Content Storage? Media Storage? HTC Message Uploader?
Finally, am I wasting my time with all this?!!
Why not just test it out? Try removing a few apps from start up and then reboot the phone.

Because I'm lazy and stupid, and wondered if someone else had done the hard work already, lol!
it wont stop apps starting, just stop them at boot, apps can start themseleves at any time so you will prob see all the apps running after a few mins anyway
Most apps in that list are not infact apps but widgets for apps.
I dissable everything (after boot) that I know I won't be using the widgets for.
I also dissable in "sms recieved" - Messaging, this is because I don't use stock messaging, I use handcent.
Just read all the headings, go down and dissable things you think you will never use in those situations.
If things don't play nice then you can always untick them again.

[REQ] How-To Lock SemcPhone and Contacts.apk to Memory

Hi,
I'm trying to lock Contacts and Phone app to memory.
So they will start faster. I don't want to wait for them to open. ( Sometimes it tooks a long time )
If is there anyother way to do it but locking it ( like keeping it alive, running in backgorund or something ) i can try.
This is really important for me. I need to make calls fast.
Thank you so much for reading.
Best Regards.

This is no longer requested.
I did it using SuperCharger Update 9 RC 6.9 ( Option 17 in Driver's Console )
I bulletproofed Phone,Contacts and Messaging apks ( Sony's Original ones ) with this script.
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021
Its BETA release probably.
Thank you for reading.
I researched some more and found this,
adb pull /init.rc
replace "setprop ro.HOME_APP_MEM ..." with:
setprop ro.HOME_APP_MEM 1536
adb push init.rc /sdcard/init.rc
adb shell
# mount -o remount,ro rootfs /
# cat /sdcard/init.rc | tee /init.rc
# mount -o remount,rw rootfs /
# rm /sdcard/init.rc
This code can lock Sense home to memory. Maybe someone with skill can change it for Contacts.apk ?
Use exDialer. It can be locked to memory, has smart search and looks like MIUI dialer.
It's a good solution.
But before i try those third-party contacts/phone apps i want to lock Sony's Original app to memory.
And i don't want to lock it with another app. I want to make lowmemorykiller see contacts app like system app and never touch it.
So, probably i need to use script or something. But it also should be permanent change, at least i don't want to do it after every reboot.
Thank you so much for answering
The same.

Exdialer will still SEMC phone to make calls. It's just an interface in between.
So locking THAT in memory won't help. Locking SEMCPhone is what you want for faster launches of the phone app.
The default dialer generally takes much time to start up. So suggested a 3rd party app for faster number dialing!

Exactly,
Exdialer is Contacts-like app. I need both of Contacts and SEMCPhone in memory.
If i won't find anything probably i will use ExDialer for Contacts app at least it will quicker to find Contacts.
But i also really need to lock SEMCPhone app to memory. That's the most important part. Because i can't use any third party app for this function. It have to be Sony's original ( im not sure btw )
Thank you so much for answering.

1 - Root it
2 - Install Script Manager
3 - Run the script as root (DONT SELECT TO RUN ON STARTUP)
4 - bulletproof an app or something like this (option 17 in my version)

I tried bulletproofing
com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook
com.sonyericsson.infiniteview
with the supercharger script
but it doesn't seem to do anything
This is very annoying

The logs show that the script is run on restart, but it says
com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook
com.sonyericsson.infiniteview
com.android.phone
isn't running, can't bulletproof.
It looks like its run a bit too early?
I tried running it with the widget, it found phone and socialphonebook running, but never infiniteview.
Even on exiting a contacts details by pressing home and starting the script immideatly, it always said infiniteview isn't running, it seems to instantly close itself.
After it told be it bulletproofed phone and socialphonebook, I went to start a few apps/games, closed them again and tried starting contacts and open a contacts details:
contacts opening time varied between 3 and 12 seconds
contact info opening time varied between 2 and 8 seconds
I am certainly not getting the effect I hoped bulletproofing would give me, I hoped the startup times would be like you just closed contacts and reopened them:
contacts opening time varied between 1 and 1.5 seconds
contact info opening time varied between 1 and 1.5 seconds
Don't expect your phone to keep Phone and contacts in memory when trying to play games. Our phones do not have enough RAM to keep all of these loaded in there at once. Android has to close something in order to free up RAM and run the current app/game.

A bit of advice for people who are having this problem - I've "been there, cut that", and have to say that the whole "bulletproof" script nonsense is nothing more than a waste of time; it just doesn't work. I've tried every "ram manager" out there, and the only thing that has got me the result is the "Xposed Framework trick" (ICS/Jellybean only unfortunately).

Thanks for the input, but I actually finally got a working solution (as I told the member above) and that is the Xposed Framework App Settings method. I've tried probably half a dozen applications over the course of the years of my ownership of this device, and so far, Xposed App Settings has been the only thing that has had any effect. The only negative is that it does require ICS or Jellybean to install.
Spread the word, and good luck to everyone experiencing this issue.

Thank you so much for this hint, finally something that works :cyclops:
I changed
Contacts (com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook)
Infiniteview (com.sonyericsson.infiniteview)
Keypad (com.android.phone)
to resident and they actually stay in memory, even after starting games (not sure if keypad is needed, it isn't listed under running apps).
Infiniteview startup went from 3-7seconds to 0.5-1.5
Contacts behave strange:
If I exit contacts by pressing home key, they start in under 1 second (Android Core Apps are listed under its subprocesses)
if I exit contacts by back key, they need 3 seconds to start (just SmartSearchCachingService and Contacts itself under processes)
I seem to not be able to lock down android.process.acore with the xposed framework

It works normally for me, let check background data traffic in settings/application&sync ?

You'll probably find it is set up to high and is killing the background services hence no notifications.
You may have to play with the settings a bit.
I personally don't use any memory management scripts.
I found them to cause more bad than good. but each to there own. There are a few threads about setting up supercharger. Maybe try looking them up.
Pvy.
Hi, I have little problem. I see my facebook messenger has no popup notifiactions. I must go to app and than I see messages. I think yesterday it worked but today nothing.
It might be a problem with the app itself or with the service. I'm using kernel + ROM with Supercharger script and Fb chat and it's normal messenger are working fine for me.

[Q] Way to prevent Facebook from starting?

Hello everyone,
By reading your helpful posts, I have rooted my Xplay, removed all the bloatwares, installed Link2SD and Autostarts.
This way I've been able to save lots of ram and my Play starts really quickly and has improved its performances.
However,
however,
however...
This bloody facebook won't stop launching by itself: task killer cannot handle it, Autostarts cannot manage to prevent it from starting by itself. Went into the settings of the app to remove all notifications, but still, it's always there, in the running programms, taking between 20 and 50mb of precious RAM.
I suffer randomly from lags in demanding games and I suspect that's because of Facebook working in background...
Do you have another solution than simply removing it? Indeed, Xperia play is a great gaming device indeed, but it's also a great smartphone, and I want to enjoy it with its full potential. Facebook is part of it and the official app offers more possibility than the non-official ones, usually limited to some basic options.
I just want it to stay closed until I decide to launch it and use it by myself... And not in my back...
Thanks for your help!
Uninstall Facebook.
Use site on mobile or on pc.
May sound "stupid", but its the best way

To be honest the official facebook app for our phones is rubbish, Constant pointless updates what don't fix any bugs, eats up your phone memory plus ram,
Just remove it with X-plore if you have Root

Or try autostarts it's an app that lets u disable apps...im testing it at the moment with facebook
Just download romtoolbox, go on autostart and disable it
Actually, I've disabled Facebook and its extensions with Autostarts, but still, it remains and continues launching automatically! So I've just frozen it with link2SD and installed Friendcaster instead. So annoying!

Very freakin' simple. FREEZE IT.
I easily get near 200MB+ free RAM with FB frozen.
Use the mobile site via your browser instead. It's way better and faster anyway.

[Q] Applications hogging the RAM

I'm running CM9 by Arco and the main problem that I have is a shortage of RAM. I don't really want to swap roms, but what I would like to do is remove applications that I'm not running from the RAM. Facebook, for example, isn't set to provide any notifications, isn't running, has been cleared from the recent apps, and is still taking up 30MB of RAM. aCalendar is another - it's one of two 3rd party calendar apps that I run and is the only one that is constantly taking up ram.
Any ideas?
I looked into an app that would periodically clear out the RAM, but this took up 30MB of RAM itself! So there wasn't really any point. What is the reason that Facebook is constantly taking up RAM?
Edit:
DSPManager is another example, and so is 'Google Messaging'. Can I do without them?

Greenify is what you are looking for, but it only hybernates installed apps, not system apps. So for example facebook and your aCalendar. However some of the system apps you do not need like for example the dspmanager or google talk, you can deactivate in settings->apps.

Greenify is still doing a great job. Is there a way of blocking DSP manager and Google Messaging though? I presume that Google Messaging is only used by the Google Hangouts app, which I never use.

Don´t know about Google Messaging but the apps you don´t want tu use you can simply deactivate in Settings-> Apps. Click on the app you want to deactivate and launch the deactivate button. Just be careful about deactivating system apps and google a bit if it´s save to deactivate a certain app. You for sure can deactivate CM-Updater, Google Talk or Hangouts, the Apollo app if you prefer to use an other app and for example the DSP-Manager.
Edit: DSP-Manager can´t be deactivated this way. You have to use root explorer and either rename it by adding for example .bak behind it or to delete it. By using a custom Kernel with incrased audio volume, you will probably anyway not need the DSP-Manager.
