help need to flash back to stock with root. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok well I am from the xperia play section.
my friend has a HTC DESIRE gsm it is currently rooted and has recovery however it currently doesn't boot (could fix this by flashing rom via recovery. ) I need to get back to stock gb or froyo with root is preferred. RUU isn't working I think driver problem but I can't fix it as I am not near him I use team viewer but when he plugs his phone in he loses net.
so I also flashed the stock gb with root zip but itsaid installation aborted
I also flashed the gb sense rom with aroma installer on here but it bootloops
please help.

i am unsure on the hboot although if you tell me the possible options i can probably remember. i think it is 0.93.0001
he is using clockworkmod recovery uh the latest version. 5.x
he has no sd card partitions other than the fat32 1.
the rom he was previously using was official GB > miui > oxygen > runnymede > failed to boot and now stuck in bootloop but cant flash back to stock.

can you even get it into fastboot? ive had this recently, i used fastboot flash and then all the required things. It was my radio that was causing the bootloop. so as soon as i flashed that it boooted fine.

i didnt even know their was a fastboot for htc desire i use a xperia play which has fastboot never knew htc desire did . where can i get the files i need to flash? i guess the fastboot is the same as the fastboot.exe for xperia play? please send me link i am complete noob to the way HTC work.

Memories (even if they are right) does not help at all.
So tell your friend the following:
He should turn off his Desire, then press and hold volume down plus power button until a white screen with the androids at the bottom appears (he should see HBOOT in capital letters, blue highlighted). Now he should tell EVERYTHING what's written there and you post EXACTLY that here.
After this done, advise him to press the power button. Now he should see FASTBOOT in capital letters, red highlighted. If that's so, ask him turn off his Desire. If that's not so, let him tell you what happened instead and you post that here.

sorry late reply the hboot is the .93 one I said above.

Seriously dude go and follow what matdroid asked you. Im not sure how it goes on the xperia play section but here on the desire section we require users seeking help to post those hboot information. Why so? Because the Desire is special and needs precise instructions.

should work if you have a non-branded handset - else you might need a goldcard.
I haven't delved much into custom ROMs yet - but AFAIK you should be able to just run this straight over the top - it will remove root etc. right back to stock

HBOOT: 0.93.0001

This is all the information I could find for the cell. Dont know what any of it means The RUU I got from another section is: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5.exe
Can I install this RUU on my phone to return it to STOCK FROYO?

Use some logic...the RUU file is an .exe, which is a Windows program. This would mean you have to run it on Windows. Then you'd be presented with instructions for the rest. Use a little common sense
why not try another custom rom . it's great fun

As above - it actually has full instructions while running the RUU.
but for basics you click something like 'I agree to return my phone back to the stock image, and confirm that I know it will wipe all user data etc. etc'
Then click accept to 'I agree that it must be above 50% battery life, and connected to the PC via USB cable' - then I think it verifies that it can find the phone, then says something about it will replace the current image with the stock image (2.29.405.5), then basically just says wait a couple of minutes, your phone reboots and flashes for a few minutes (I think with a big HTC logo and a progress bar), then when it's done it says DONE! and your phone reboots into the welcome wizard as if you turned it on for the first time...

Different HBOOT TYPES.

Hi all. I'm new to this world so asking a, may be silly, question.
I play with roms every now and then. Change my rom from one to another in couple of weeks. I found STOCK HBOOT OFFERS LESS INTERNAL SPACE THAN CM7 OR CM7r2 hboots for custom roms.
I haven't experimented yet with these things. Can someone tell me how to convert my hboot to cm7 or cm7r2? I haven't done anything with my hboot so I suppose I'm on stock hboot. Difference between cm7 and cm7r2?
Any drawbacks of doing this? And will be able to flash app2sd and data2ext normally as I do now?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The difference is that the hboot versions offer you a diffrent internal partition layout
you can look them up http://alpharev.nl/ <-- there
also you can download it from there
You can flash it via fastboot or via the PB99IMG.zip method or you simply use android flasher(recommanded, it´s selfexplaining)
Is there any chance of bricking my phone?
When I switch between roms sometimes I get stuck in boot loops. *no worries*
I just pull out the battery. Reboot in recovery and restore nandroid backup.
In this case I'm cautious because if I'm stuck where would I go because I'm playing with hboot. I think I won't be able to access recovery in that case, right?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You can brick it if your downloaded hboot.img is not downloaded correcly
If you are in a bootloop you simply go into fastboot and flash the correct table(hboot) and flash your ROM
and yes you will be able to boot into recovery(if youre in a bootloop)

If your download was corrupt or you pulled the cable in the seconds during the flashing period then you'd most probably brick your phone, but during my time on this forum I have never heard of any such misfortunes occurring..
By the way instead of posting try searching... this is just common knowledge info and can be found with a quick google search or a visit to alpharev.. it really isn't hard and not really worth posting a new thread about.

The nandroid needs to have the HBOOT you had, when you made that nandroid.
So if U had STOCK HBOOT when making a nandroid wich U like to go back to, then flash STOCK HBOOT - BEFORE - U nandroid back.
So for now... flash the HBOOT U want, and then right after the ROM.
And if U wanna restore your nandroid, then flash STOCK HBOOT, and then restore nandroid.
AND remember... U CAN NOT FLASH RADIO IF U ARE ON CM7R2 HBOOT,
that will brick your phone.
So flash RADIO before, OR do the procedure with ADB if U are already on CM7R2.

This is very awkward if you still managed to flash cm7r2 even though md5sum didn't match.
I haven't tried it yet. Will give a try tomorrow.

You do realise... the point of an md5 match is so that you know the thing that is uploaded.. is exactly the same thing that you downloaded... so... when it matches "hooray lets flash away"... when it doesn't "holy mother of god get the hell of my computer"... you sure you used it right?

How to upgrade hboot

Hi all, so I've been trying to update my hboot from 0.75.0000 to .93 but have been FAILING miserably. I'm currently on ICS, and have tried alpharev which didn't work. Trying to flash rom to RUU has also failed but I don't know why. Flashed my radio to match the one with the RUU and that didn't work, which i'm guessing is due to the inability to simply flash from ICS to 2.2 or 2.3?
So my question is, any other tips?
Try to flash the hboot downgrade from alpharev then the right RUU. If that works you can root and s-off your phone with unrevoked/revolutionary. If you want to change hboot to cmr7 or data ++ (example) you MUST be s-off......

Thanks for tip, I've actually done alpharev and it also failed. Reason being it needs a rom that doesn't already have a2sd, any suggestion as to which rom is suitable?
Thanks
Edit: I've actually online done the hboot reflash, and not the downgrade. Will give that a go first and see what happens.
I think that all the rooted roms have some sort of a2sd, that's why I think you have to start from the beginning. Start with an original ruu.bring it back to its original state wich came out of the box...my knowledge doesn't reach that far ;-) its the easyest way I think.

Can you post your complete bootloader. Turn of phone, hold down volume and press power. What info does the left upper corner give you ?

MICROP-031D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101

Still I think what's best is to go back all the way and install a ruu. Then go directly to revolutionary. It will root and s-off your phone and installs the custom hboot.
Maybe I have more time to help tonight, I am at work now :-(

Hey there, firstly I would like to thank you for ALL your help and of course the effort you've put in it.
I've actually fixed it by firstly going to page ~16 of the android development forum for the desire, get an old rom, flash it in and then performed the alpharev. Lo and behold it worked because the rom is reasonably old and a2sd was "new" then. Flashed it back to ICS now and I am proud to announced that I S-OFF'ED!!! Partition done and OFF I GO.
That's great !!!! Have fun with your fixed desire )))

Restore HTC Desire to stock

Hello all,
A friend of mine has rooted his HTC Desire by using the Mildwild ROM. Sometimes his phone is crashing with this ROM, so he wants to unroot his phone. Because I am such an awesome friend I offered to do this (actually he asked me, but whatever ). Right now I am stuck in the process of restoring his stock ROM.
The Bootloader gives me this information:
AlphaRev CM7 r2
Bravo PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
Radio-4.05.00.11
Aug 10 2010, 17:52:18
So I need to restore the stock HBOOT. Therefore I download this file: http://alpharev.nl/PB99IMG_downgrade.zip. I change the name to 'PB99IMG.zip' and copy-paste it to the root of the SD card. When I try to flash the HBOOT in fastboot, this is what I get:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I don't know what is going wrong here, but obviously I'm doing something wrong. I hope you guys can help me find out what I need to do else.
Download the downgrader from alpharev website as the HBOOT is write protected and flash it from fastboot. Then download the htc 2.3 RUU from HTC dev and in fastboot connect to the pc and flash it back to stock

ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
Is it possible to recover the phone?
PS. i have already made a gold card for my htc magic, can it be used on the dhd or a new one is required?
Well, can you describe what you did for it to get stuck there?
Try a search, your issue has been covered several times. Unfortunately my knowledge doesn't reach to that extent.

I agree with @Teichopsia what did you do to get it to that state? Last ROM used? Which recovery are you using? Expand the OP please then we can help you out!

The phone is not mine, so i don't know the exact things that were done on the phone but here is some info.
My friend had 2.3.5 gingebread with sense 3.0 and downgraded to 2.3.3 with sense 2.1 .He used the advanced ace hack tool for all this.it said root , s-off and then rebooted and then it stayed at the htc logo from then.
Reboot the phone into recovery (battery pull, hold volume up + power). Then mount the sd card from CWM & copy a ROM over. Do a full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik) and install the ROM, you should be able to get it working again

A small correction, its volume down
Unless you are holding it upside down
Remember, it's showing s-on. Reboot in recovery to check if it says s-off, if not I'm not sure

Lol thanks @Teichopsia for correcting me I always got confused (always took the wimps way out and used RomManager to get to recovery. Also the guy posted it said S-OFF so he should be able to flash a ROM.

Np mate.
But if you look at the op he wrote down the stats and it says s-on. Unless Im mistaken it should be s-off. However, the hboot version seems to be right.
That part has me somewhat confused and I'm not quite sure.

That is why u are stuck...you are still S-ON...now you know that it is always better to check before doing something.
Anyway, you are not bricked, half bricked, soft bricked or anything bricked at all..you are just stuck.
You have two choices:
If you didn't factory reset the phone (that will erase the usb drivers from it) you can just plug the phone from the splash screen and run the hack kit to have the job done
Find a RUU for your phone, flash it and when the device is fully functional then re run the Hack Kit
Both will let you with a fully working phone. I would choose the second one just to make sure that everything is working...hope it helps.
i wasn't the one that used the tool so no drivers are installed on my computer...it was also factory reset.
Where can i find a RUU for the dhd?

try here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610483&highlight=stock
Go to shipped ROMs and find the RRU for ace (desire hd) and run it. Rerun AAHK, flash a custom ROM (if you choose so) and BAM! working phone

but to Run the RUU ur computer should be able to recognise ur device/phone which i think it wont.
You can flash the ruu from the boat loader screen.
i couldn't connect the phone with the ruu because i dont have any drivers on the pc..i connected it also when it was on the bootloader but nothing changed...
Not quite sure, but download the drivers from the htc website?

Thank you all for your help, the phone is now functional again.I used the PD98IMG to get to 2.2 and then used the aahk to get s-off.
