see the link to the RUU in my sig - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048
should work if you have a non-branded handset - else you might need a goldcard.
I haven't delved much into custom ROMs yet - but AFAIK you should be able to just run this straight over the top - it will remove root etc. right back to stock

Cell info:
Bravo PVT1 S-on
Radio: 5.11.05.27
HBOOT: 0.93.0001
MICROP-031d
Baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
OS version: 2.3.4
Mod: GingerVillian
kernel version: 2.6.38.4
This is all the information I could find for the cell. Dont know what any of it means The RUU I got from another section is: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5.exe
Can I install this RUU on my phone to return it to STOCK FROYO?
how do I install it, a guide please, saying "flash the rom" is just unhelpful to someone who doesnt know a thing about this business.
The following thread should help:

Use some logic...the RUU file is an .exe, which is a Windows program. This would mean you have to run it on Windows. Then you'd be presented with instructions for the rest. Use a little common sense
why not try another custom rom . it's great fun

As above - it actually has full instructions while running the RUU.
but for basics you click something like 'I agree to return my phone back to the stock image, and confirm that I know it will wipe all user data etc. etc'
Then click accept to 'I agree that it must be above 50% battery life, and connected to the PC via USB cable' - then I think it verifies that it can find the phone, then says something about it will replace the current image with the stock image (2.29.405.5), then basically just says wait a couple of minutes, your phone reboots and flashes for a few minutes (I think with a big HTC logo and a progress bar), then when it's done it says DONE! and your phone reboots into the welcome wizard as if you turned it on for the first time...

Ran the RUU from fastboot, there is an option to UPDATE the ROM so I canceled. Shouldnt there be an option to replace the ROM?

Problem solved! Installed a custom rom that is pre rooted stock froyo. Thanks everyone Special thanks to Lothaen.

update is just poor english - it means replace. - it'd also wipe the root etc.
But glad you got it working the easy way by just flashing a froyo over the gingerbread.

I need help on reverting my Desire HD back to stock.
For this I understand I need to flash stock ROM (RUU). In this case I need to flash RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.720.5 which is the Indian version for DHD.
However, I am unable to find this RUU.
When installing a custom rom after having rooted my phone I did take a backup using rom manager. So I do have a backup of Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.720.5 which I can restore ... but I will still have root.
Question: Is there a way to remove root after I restore the backup and also remove ClockworkMod's recovery?
If the above is possible I can then update my phone to the latest firmware from HTC which I guess is 1.84.720.3.
Please help..
There's an unroot option in visinonary.

Shouldn't do, I once tried something similar and everything was okay? The OTA's installed as they should. The problem is the RRU you require hasn't actually been released which is a shame as I would expect Shipped-Roms to have a copy.

This is not the first time... I had a similar problem with HTC Hero, the Indian(Airtel base) rom was never released for download and when rooting the first time I did not take a backup of the original rom coz of which I was unable to update using the OTA.
So you saying I should go ahead with the unroot process and the OTA can then be applied? I really want to do this since I am flashing my phone every alternate day with a new rom released at XDA.. either 2.2.1 or 2.3.. need to stop doing that .. atleast for a few months till HTC releases a stable 2.3 sense rom for DHD.

vickyclewis.. thanks for the direct file download... will check it out once out of office.
Also the steps mentioned for flashing this.... I found the below in one of your post:
=====================================================
PD98IMG's cannot be flashed via CWM Recovery. Rename the zip to "PD98IMG.zip" and place in the root of your SD card (not in any folder).
Turn off your phone, disable HTC Fastboot if it's enabled, and power on holding Volume Down. This should start the Bootloader and it should read the PD98IMG.zip and flash it for you.
=====================================================
I guess you need to mention that the user has to get to the bootloader to install this...
Thanks once again..
NO RUU_xxx.exe version for DHD india (Gingerbread)

Yes running a ruu will unroot your phone by placing you back onto the stock HTC rom with android 2.2.1 froyo. And unbranded means that the rom doesn't have carrier branding, like 02 vodaphone 3 tesco mobile ect.

Just out of curiosity, are you going back to stock for warranty reasons or because your selling the phone?
If not did you know that there are custom stock roms which allow you to keep all the benefits of root and have a stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 Look in this thread for Sense based roms (Rempuzzle or DK custom rom being the best 2) and if you need any help flashing them post here, someone will help.

You don't need to unroot to flash a new Rom, most roms are already pre-rooted, a stock Rom would need rooting, busybox a custom kernel etc etc installing the stock roms I mentioned would already have that part done for you and can be flashed from clockwork mod recovery, just download a sense based Rom put it on your sd card then reboot into recovery by powering off the phone, then press volume down and power to get to hboot use the volume buttons to select recovery then press power, once in recovery perform a backup, then select wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, next choose install zip from sd card and find the rom, install it then reboot into your fresh new HTC sense Rom.
Those roms are custom though so they do have a few slight differences to a fully stock Rom such as new wallpapers that kind of thing.

Use the link i posted above
- Dowload the RUU
- Connect your phone to PC and run RUU
- This will downgrade your phone OS to eclair (android 2.1)
- Let it do the bizniss and when it boots and says finished on your PC,
you will have a ****ty phone. (but dont worry) because this is what
you want
- If it doesnt work, use another RUU and run it. Just make sure it says
2.1.x.x.x in the title to make sure u go back to android 2.1. and not
1.4 or something.
You will not have CM7 after this, or any remnants of it, it will just look like basic android. It will not be branded, i.e. it will not have t-mobile splattered all over it.

Lmao I'm glad you solved your problem but can I just say how much of an asshole I think you are! Everyone who has posted in this thread have just been trying to help you achieve what you wanted to do or like myself offer an alternative which would involves less work when rerooting your device which you did say you wanted to do.
Custom sense roms do not **** up phones especially the 2 I mentioned, its muppets like yourself that don't read instructions carefully and thoroughly, before I rooted my device I made sure I had all the tools and know how to put it all back to stock beforehand. Perhaps you should do the same next time.
After trying several different ROMs (mainly Sense 1.9 up to 3.5) and 3 different memory cards I am still having reliability problems with my Desire. The main problem is now and again I press the wake button and nothing. The power button doesnt even work I have to take the battery out and reset.
I also get a fair bit of lag, especially with incoming calls, even after having a play with Daemon Controller settings.
I can just about live with it but as I am likely to want to sell the phone soon i was wondering if anyone could recommend the most solid ROM. Preferably one that doesn't use an EXT3/4 partition as it could possibly be running apps from this that's causing the problem. I'm not bothered about Sense either.
I am currently running AceSMod007 v42, Recovery 4EXT v2.2.7 RC6, Stock HBoot.
The easier it is to install the better and even if its vanilla android I'm not bothered. I just don't want any comebacks when I sell it as the phone has caused me enough headaches.
ps Is a new battery likely to help or is that clutching at straws?
Put it back to stock like it used to be. That will eliminate or at least lessen the possibility of buyer comebacks caused by buggy custom roms. If the buyer wants it rooted, he/she should do it themselves.
How do you do that exactly?

Reflash the Froyo RUU which you can pick up at www.shippedroms.com, or the Gingerbread RUU which you can find at www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads.
Good luck!

Thanks! Can I flash that straight over any ROM? and does that mean it won't be rooted anymore either?

I haven't done it personally but I believe you can flash it over as long as the phone is on stock hboot which I think it is. If you are s-off, you may need to flash a downgrader from alpharev. (Can anyone confirm this is required for stock hboot? I had the impression it's only for cm7r2 and oxygen hboots.)
You'll lose root and s-off (if you s-offed your device before). Make sure you chose the right RUU for your phone.

Only r2 hboots.
I think I might have to give it a try as my phone is very unreliable now as it keeps just switching off and won't reset unless I pull the battery. Happens about once a day.
Do I flash it through recovery as usual?
Also, if you want a solid rom, you can't get much more solid than Cyanogenmod. It's actually more stable than the stock rom for my part. Another option is MIUI, but the iPhone-like interface might be a bother.
Thanks, do you mean CyanogenMod-7 for Desire GSM V7.0.3 rom as the download link was broken when I checked?

Possibly not for another 6-8 weeks so I don't fancy returning to Stock and still having problems and having to mess about getting it S-Off and rooted again.
And to be fair if it wasn't randomly switching itself off I might consider hanging on to it longer as when it works properly its a pretty decent phone, I just cant live with the unreliablility.
So has anyone got a link for the CM Rom?

Consult Bortak's guide on that, I'm not writing it over again here.
RMA is a warranty claim.

Hello all,
My wife has the Virgin Mobile version (CDMA) HTC One V. She wanted me to install a new ROM for her. I've had ROMs on it before, but she got the OTA from Virgin Mobile and didn't tell me. Well I've been trying to put all sorts of different ROMs on it, and everyone has had the bootloop bug. I traced it down to the radio being updated to 1.00.00.0928. I've found posts saying to get the RUU, extract the rom.zip and rename it to PK76IMG then put that in the root of the SD card, then let HBOOT take care of it. It fails every time. Flashing recovery_signed.img and then running the RUU also fails. Well, come to find out my HBOOT version is 1.57 and as far as I can tell I'm screwed.
Am I screwed guys? I mean do I have any options in getting a working phone out of this? I'd be happy just to get it back to stock, but at this point it's looking like I have a nice paperweight that lights up.
If there is any help or info you guys could give me I'd be very appreciative. Thanks in advance.

try to use fastboot mode.
start the ruu on windows, before pressing any buttons, start a search window.. in the top of the search window ( like you are going to type a www. address) type %temp% and hit enter. on the top of the search, you will see two folders that have many nunbers and letters for the name. in one of them you will find a "rom" zip extract it and inside you will find recovery_signed.img. put it in your fastboot folder
put your phone in fastboot and fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
now run the ruu utility

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I've already tried that. Same sort of error. It gets through the signature check and then when it reaches the HBOOT part of the installation it gives me the error saying I have the incorrect version of the RUU, but I'm using the same RUU I've used in the past with no issues.
I really don't have a good answer. Maybe try one of the new ion kernel ROMs that support the new radio

Before you RUU back to stock make sure you relock your bootloader by fastboot oem lock then go back go fastboot and launch the RUU

There was just another ota on virgin other than the new radio one...it may be the cause of the problem. Crappy part is it adds nothing, just have to stick with beyond's or Simon's codefirex. Also someone just uploaded a kernel that works with the new radio for myone, I highly recommend it.

Also if you want to return you need to relock the phone (as said before) flash back the stock recovery (you did that) AND flash back the ORIGINAL kernel (nobody said that but this is needed too).
You can get the stock kernel from the RUU you have downloaded the same way as the recovery image. Search for the boot.img or boot_signed.img and of course flash it from fastboot mode.
Try it, hopefully it will work.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but I'm still unable to get it back to stock. The HBOOT in the RUU is older than the one on the phone so it won't allow the RUU to work.
Is there a way to rollback/downgrade the HBOOT?

Same Problem
Nothing substantial to add. Just wanted to say that I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I've got the CDMA HTC One V that I flashed with the latest RhythmicROM. It booted up fine but quickly manifested the boot loop. I tried restoring to my CWM backup, but that gets stuck in the boot loop too (does that sound right?) I followed the instructions in the "ROM Randomly Rebooting?" thread in the General Forum, but encountered the same error when trying to run the RUU. I used the following RUU: (RUU_PRIMO_C_ICS_40A_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.08.652.6_Radio _1.00.00.0521_2_NV_VM_3.46_0503_PRL61008_release_2 62414_signed.exe). I have the updated radio (updated to 1.00.00.0928), and the updated HBOOT (1.57).
A couple people have mentioned ROMs that support the new radio. Can someone let us know exactly which ones those are?
Thanks!
Edit:
Just noticed that the RhythmicROM does say it has support for the new radio. I didn't add that up until just now. I'm hoping that it will work.
Edit 2:
I was able to get the Rhythmic ROM working successfully with the OTA Fix that is listed and linked to in his thread. The OTA_fix.zip file contains an updated version of boot.img that I flashed (using fastboot) after installing the ROM.
Simon's and beyond's codefirex both work, as does the cdma myone. It just depends on the kernel you can use for the rom. Most devs started using Simon's fix so we should be pretty good moving forward.

So I've been trying some of the ROMs and kernels you guys suggested. They boot into Android and I get a popup that says Android is updating... optimizing file 1 of 394 or whatever... It gets through a few of those and reboots. I let it go all the way through until there were no more files that needed to be optimized and... reboots endlessly.
Hello,I bought a second hand HTC Desire, which remained stuck at HTC logo, I came into recovery very difficult to mix volume - and power, I think are damaged volume keys, and started RUU, at 80-100% I got an error, I followed the steps I removed the battery and when the phone does not respond in any way, does not start, the LED does not display anything to load and the computer does not recognize, can have a chance of recovery?
