So today I dropped my phone on a hardwood floor. I thought it was fine until i tried turning the screen on. The inside of my screen was cracked and everything was messed up. I filed a claim with asurion and I'll be getting the new phone Monday hopefully. I was wondering if anyone had any previous experiences with Asurion and would like to share? Did you get a new or refurbished phone? How was your experience?
last time i used them i got a refurbished phone but it seem like it was brand new
Personally any refurbished phone I got from any Tmobile source in the past ten years looked and acted brand new.

I got a new fascinate from them and it ran better than the original one. Using glitch kernel with the low leakage download. Could not run it on original phone. Anyway, have had three phones replaced thru them with zero issues.

Thanks guys. It makes me feel a little better that I will get a good device. I don't want to go though the hassle of returning it and waiting for another one.
How much did you have to pay to file the claim?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
$130 is the deductible, once it's filled it comes right out of T-mobiles warehouse just like a warranty exchange. Glad you were able to get it all taken care of so quickly. I'm so paranoid about my screen breaking.

I had to pay $130. Its better than a new phone or having to go through the hassle of fixing the screen. I'm always so careful with my phones but it just slid off my desk and fell. It was awful.

I could imagine
I have insurance so that is why I asked....Although I really hope I never have to file a claim.
When they used the term "refurbished".... It's not like they take a broken fone fix it n give it to lol.... It's when a customer has 14 days when they get there fone n they don't like it, n they return it to the store. There was nothing wrong with the fone its just that the store can't sell it so they mail it back to corporate.. They do a whipe.. n they send it out.. Just wanted to clear things up lol

That's true for some, the whole truth is that sometimes they are a frankenstein of many bad phones. If you were here when the T989 forum kicked off, there was a ton of people sending their phones back for screen issues. You can bet those got circulated again as exchanges too. For me personally, I have sent back tons of replacements because they were not 100% perfect. Know that you can tell them if you have an issue and they will try to resolve it.
Hope that helps you get a balanced view of things.

Hey guys.
I've been thinking if I should even keep my insurance on my EVO. If my screen breaks, it's $35 (without insurance). If it doesn't, I just spend $84 on nothing every year. I'm rooted BTW.
Can someone help me make up my mind seeing how I can't do it myself? Hahaha. Seriously, can someone who knows the insurance policy help me out?
If you plan to flash other roms, kernels, mods, etcetera, keep your insurance.

I would keep it. Yeah, it's $84 a year, but I've used mine twice so far. While the issues I had probably could've been covered under warranty, I saved a lot of Excedrin by having insurance. One of the phones had a software problem on the stock not rooted rom, which I'm sure would've been a pain to get replaced without insurance.

This is my 3rd Evo. The first 2, my screen went out. Sprint replaced them because it was within 30 days. I flashed CM7, have a nandroid of the stock rom, I know how to unroot and haven't had any problems with this one. I don't know. I feel like I'm trying to convince myself because I'm cheap, but you guys do make a point. Does anyone know how much it costs if my USB goes out (without insurance)? I'm probably going to keep it, but out of curiosity.

Worst comes to worst and you do run into a situation its better to have it than not. I'd say keep it, if you lose or someone steals your phone atleast you won't have to come out of pocket with so much.
Insurance on ANY smartphone is a MUST these days. Too many things can go wrong and it's better to be safe than sorry

I think my phone heard me threatening to take off the insurance, hahaha. It froze on the boot screen for a LONG time. This is the first time it happened to me. I just took the battery out and turned the phone back on. It's fine now, just scared me.
BTW, the $35 for screen repair I was talking about wasn't about Sprint (I don't know how much their prices are). I was talking about a cell phone repair shop in my area. Those guys told me they would do it for $35 (this includes labor).

Okay guys... Well Long story short my phones screen doesn't work anymore.
Long story: I was using my phone like usual and when I was finished I put it in my Pocket. I dIdnt realize I had a credit card in that pocket as well, next thing I know I take the phone out and between the screen and the keyboard is the credit card wedged between. I take it out thinking it'll all be fine but when I slide the keyboard Out I hear what sounds like crumbling paper and I look at the back of the phone and there is this black tape looking thing sticking Out From the phone. And now my screen doesn't come on...
I have no warranty I'm just under the one year. What will I have to pay to get this fixed?
I know on inssurance its free but for a new screen its around 50 but what you describe is like you unattatched the whole top half of the phone almost and you'll need a new phone. =[ I think the paper sound is the connection of the display to the phone board.

I bricked my T989 by trying to flash a ROM for the I9100 (I somehow failed to notice that the ROM was not for T989). After unsuccessfully trying to revive it I requested a warranty replacement from TMO. Does anyone have any perspective on the likelihood that TMO will hit me with a big fee if/when Samsung notices that the phone was previously rooted? Does Samsung look for that or do they just reimage the device without poking around?
I replaced a rooted g1 with no problem. They do hit you with a $130 deductible though.

The customer service rep I spoke to today said that there would be a $100+ fee if the phone has cosmetic issues (which mine does not) so hopefully I won't get hit with the deductible.

You're confusing warranty with insurance. The deductible only applies to insurance, for which there is no concern regarding rooting damage. Insurance will cover any damage or loss. Warranty is specifically for when the manufacturer has issued a faulty device. In the OP's case, negligent damage should not be covered by warranty, since the manufacturer is not at fault, however they will most likely not even look twice at the device and just replace it. I have seen countless folks brick their phones and just play dumb for a replacement. This, in part, is why they now charge a $20 warranty exchange fee.

are u at least able to turn on the phone? turn on meaning the phone comes on instead of full boot. if so,u are soft bricked and can fix thru Odin. I wouldn't waste my warranty exchange on a soft brick as its 100% fixable. the refurb unit u may receive will only hhave a 90 day warranty vs the 1yr that comes with ur origina purchase.

They will say,

You tell them white (Given that it is indeed white)
They will say okay well we can send you a new phone, (or the next best whatever your case may be) and you give them your IMEI number, and read you the script which I almost have memorized and then they charge you 5 bucks for next day delivery to your next bill, and when your phone comes brick your old handset and send it back!

Don't know much as to the why's and what not's, all I know is they charge it unless you have full insurance in which case they only charge $5. Most likely to offset the cost of people abusing the system by ruining their own devices and then getting a replacement.

Well, needless to say I'm bricked... I got the blue light of death on my E4GT and when I went into sprint they started taking my phone apart and found a tiny water spot on the board. Referred me to Asurion and sent me on my way. I was not very happy with having to spend $100 dollars to file an insurance claim. I was wondering if I should go to a different sprint store or since the first tech cleaned the board to try again for a replacement or should I just ship it off to Samsung since I'm still under the 1 year warranty?
What is everyone else's experience with obtaining a replacement from sprint with TEP or sending out to Samsung for repair?

I was working on helping to port Sense 4.0 and forgot to Odin back to el26 to flash a working rom. Flashed cm9 using an unsafe kernel and locked up the emmc. Blue light of death, no download mode, no recovery.
Now, back to my question about Samsung warranty...
Sent from my piece of crap Zio until i get a replacement E4GT using XDA Premium app
I bought a phone off of craigslist, unfortunately the data could not be set up by sprint and I paid the 100 bucks to get a new/refurbed one. So for 100 plus the 150 I paid... it was worth it. The good thing about the insurance is that you can practically do anything with it and get a replacement.
I would like to know how you bricked it as well, because I've done things which I thought it was bricked but found out I was still able to somehow get it into recovery mode or do a Odin recovery. One time it drained my battery so I could not even charge it, but luckily a friend had a Galaxy S phone and charged my battery for me. Now I have 3 batteries and a battery charger too. LOL!
If you can get into download mode you can still fix it, but but you'll loose 2gigs of space and currently its not a permanent fix
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Try sending a PM to newalker91 about the issue and see if he can offer any advice about dealing with Sprint before going the Asurion route. In the meantime you can restore functionality if it boots by using an alternate .PIT file - you'll lose 2.9 GB of storage but hopefully keep $100 if he can help you out.
It doesn't boot at all... I just have a blue light, screen stays dark, if I try booting into anything the light flickers and then a steady blue. I have an old USB connector, could I get into download mode with a jig? I can get some resistors and make one if that would let me use Odin for the pit file.

I set my phone down on the counter one day to charge and didn't notice that my roommate had just made a mixed drink and left ice on the counter that melted... as soon as I noticed that the counter had liquid on it I quickly picked up my phone and took out the battery and let everything dry. I would say that it wasn't there for more than a minute before I noticed.
I just contacted Samsung today about getting a shipping label so that I can send it in for repair, I guess I'll have to go into a UPS store now and have them print the label and I'll need to purchase a box to ship it in.
My only question now is, Since the Sprint tech cleaned the board with whatever kind of alcohol they use, Will Samsung notice that it was ever wet and will I be charged anything for the repair since it is an issue with the eMMC?

I thought they would've... I guess I just got a tech that was an a hole. Maybe he didn't want to help me because there was some girl there with a smashed screen on her phone at the same time for repair, funny thing about that is he was willing to work with her when she said that her boyfriend intentionally smashed her phone.
I'm just going to send it back in to Samsung... I'm no longer with Sprint because of this. They lost me as a customer because of this.
So yesterday my dad and I went car shopping and being the lazy college kid I am, I wore sweatpants. I went to sit in the first car as a joke (Fiat 500) and I heard a crash and to my horror it was my 16 day old Note 2 skidding face first on the ground. I picked it up and saw no scratches to my amazement, bug then I looked up at the front facing camera and there is a crack arching from just above the right most sensor, through the center of the camera, to the corner of the phone. Total length of about 3/4 of an inch. I put the At&t insurance on this, but I don't know if they will fix it or what? None of the screen itself is cracked and everything functions correctly, but I don't want to go another 17 1/2 months with a cracked phone. Anyone have any experience with At&t's insurance and replacement stuff? Could use some pointers here.
Thanks

Why would you keep the S-Pen? Technically that's stealing. You should them back everything that came with the phone unless they actually tell you to keep certain items since they won't be sending them with your replacement. Don't give them a reason to charge you full price.
Your not supposed to send any of your accesories, back, or battery. It will tell you that on the return box

If its insurance claim it doesnt matter if its rooted. You could have bricked it and send it back ran over it with a car while scuba diving in a volcano and doesnt matter. At&t insurance covers anything but you pay for that with the high deductible. Me I dont insure mine because the 200 deductible if I do break one its almost the same cost to just add another line and get another one then switch the line to a dumb phone $10 for a dumb phone add a line and like $8 for insurance deductible and price of phone is roughly same.
I'm just going off of the "it's better to be safe than sorry" thinking lol. I've never had to return one for insurance, but my luck the first time I would they would say something.

Just my personal opinion but any phone that leavs my hanf gets all system and app data erased. There is an emence amount of personal data that gets left on the phone and factory reset/whipe or new rom wont get rid of it. These repair or refurbs get sold to 3rd parties like me every day. Cant tell you how many ..... perosnal ..... pictures are left on a phone alone (cringe). Let alone all your login app data and so on.
Not sure if this has changed but last claim I did with ATT they sent you the phone replacement first and you put yours in the sam box and ship it back. Isnt that still the case? I would keep my Spen in the new phone and send one back if they privide you with one. No stealing just keep the better of the 2.
