What's your favourite custom recovery for now guys? ext4 recovery touch or cwm

sorry before, may be this is a stupid thread for asking common stuffs about recovery
but i just wanna know for this time what's your favourite custom recovery between cwm and ext4 recovery touch (include the version) or may be the others that u think the best. thank you guys

Both are awesome, but I like CWM more
I've used both and both are great.
I personally find that CWM (ClockworkMod) is a little more straightforward and has a cleaner look to it. CWM now has touch, albeit it's not as feature or interface rich as 4ext's touch interface.
I should point out, however, that using CWM with some ROM's, I was unable to make selections when the ROM gives you options during flashing. For example, when I was flashing a rom that gave the option of installing the OC daemon, CWM didn't give me the option, it just said installation (of the OC daemon) cancelled, whereas 4ext said yes or no, and I was able to choose.
I use ROM Manager (+ premium) from the market to flash back to clockwork mod when I've had 4ext installed, and use 4ext Recovery Control to flash 4ext back.

The recovery is called 4EXT, and that's what you should refer to it, as to avoid any sort of misunderstanding with the "ext4" filesystem.
With that said, 4EXT Touch is the best you can get. It has a lot of bugs fixed over from CWM. It is also fully compatible with ROM Manager.

4ext touch is what I prefer. I started with cwm and have mad love for it, but after one of the updates is was working awkward for me and I tried 4ext and never looked back.
I might add cwm is fixed now, and works flawlessly.

They both flash roms fine. So to me, eh who cares? I mean no offense to the respective devs, but I compare it to who makes a better key to my car? Who cares as long as it works. Imho.
P.s. I know some people like fancy keyless entry and keyless start and panic mode.... so for them it makes a difference.

ROM Manager DHD support.

Hi dudes.
I have a DHD fully rooted etc...
Quick question.
Can I flash a ROM from ROM Manager or should I always go through recovery?

Rom managers fine as it'll take the phone to recovery anyway..the advantages of rom manager before you flash are options such as wiping davlik..data etc

It's not so much better, just simpler. Although Touch Recoveries have made all that scrolling with Vol buttons a thing of the past so even less advantage now.
You can wipe things before reboot to Rec, or do it all in Recovery. Choice is always good

in my opinion the best recovery is :
4EXT Recovery Control
read about it and try it ...

Ill agree there the touch recovery is pretty cooo and you can theme it
+1 for looking into it.
Yep rom manager is easier in simplicity I would say but both have options. The advantage if rm is maybe just a bit more automated

OK. Cheers guys, some useful info here.
What prompted me to post this is that I tried to flash an ICS ROM last week from CWM recovery.
Now I cheat a little and flash a full_wipe.zip before flashing a ROM, just to make the process of wiping a bit less tedious.
But the full_wipe.zip didn't work, so I performed a recovery.
(I learned the hard way that 5 mins spent doing a nandroid backup is worth its weight in gold)
It's worked with all my previous flashes, the only difference is that I have now installed CWM Recovery Touch.
This was my first try using it to flash.
To my absolute shame, I'm unsure of the sequence of manually wiping the various parts before flashing a ROM.
Hence why I used full_wipe.zip and why I enquired if using ROM Manager was a viable way.
Can anyone please advise of the manual sequence.

Alternatives to Clockwork recovery

i have used clockwork recovery for a while. But is is old with not much development. is there a alternative that is better with all the functionality and more.

Clockwork mod has set the standard for custom recoveries I wouldn't suggest deviating from it. But if you dont care you can try TWRP its not bad, you can theme it and its touch like Cwm

I'll second TWRP
when playing around with different roms and kernels, it's layout just seems more logical and natural. Didn't have any problems so far with wiping and installing stuff (that wipe cache/dalvik button after install is really handy)
Hope they continue to develop

I also use twrp. Best recovery overall IMO.

clockwork never restores my nandroid backups. it always errors out near the end of the restore. even with a wiped phone and a fresh root and rom. liquid rom

Sounds like bad nand memory not a recovery... I could be wrong though. Or your partitions are corrupt.

how do you fix a bad nand memory?, or fix the partition?
clockwork finds the nand backup fine and starts the restore process. restores system fine, secure fine, but errors out while restoring data

You dont... means busted phone... like i said i could be wrong. Do you have enough space for the nandroid? you need about 2gigs for it to back up properly depending on how much /data you have... like how many apps you have... i have roughly 30-40 and my nandroids are around 800mbs... otherwise yes it will error.

that's crazy to think about. I remember when Koush made it for the D1 just so we could flash CM because SPR used a different format. Thinking back, that guy did a LOT in a short amount of time

+1 on this. I had just started using 4EXT on my Evo 3d, it was great. I think Clockwork mod is great as well but I prefer 4EXT and TWRP's user interface. I would use TWRP but it seems a lot of mods I wanna flash can't be done with it.

I really liked AmonRA's recovery when I was on the Dream. I was sad when I had to switch to CM. But, now I'm cool with it.

I've gone back to cm touch after using TWRP for a while.
TWRP is great, and I did like the ability to queue zips, but I had trouble with nandroids and with rom manager integration. Basically, I would hit apply in rom manager, and my phone would boot to the menu in TWRP instead of flashing the rom. Ultimately, nothing beats the ease of being able to hit a button in Android, and have the phone reboot and automatically install your updates. (On the other hand, if someone can tell me how to integrate TWRP with rom manager, that'd be awesome...)
With nandroids, the process took about 3 seconds and the files weren't nearly big enough, so I guess it was missing something.

It's called learn to do the process yourself and not use rom manager...I have not had it on my phone since the evo it has never really worked on a Samsung phone and koush never wanted to fix it...

Though somebody helpfully just suggested on another thread that I should try goo manager instead of ROM manager. I might give that a go.

backup rom

Hi people.
I was using rom manager for a long time now to backup restore my roms on DHD.
A few days before i try to backup my new rom Blackout ICS Incredible v3.0.0 and my phone freeze.
I went to recovery mode and fix it.
Is there any other app to backup my phone?
Also i notice rom manager update in store.Did they fix this issue ?

Use 4ext recovery. It's much better than CWM. It doesn't support as many phones as CWM, but the DHD is one of the few it does. Also any backups you've made with CWM are fully compatible with 4ext. You can get the donation 4ext Recovery Control app from Play Store which has a ton of other features apart from backing up and restoring. Alternatively, if you don't want to pay for the app, you can do everything directly in recovery too. The app is just a frontend to make it easier. Hardly anyone uses CWM + ROM Manager for the DHD anymore because this is better.
Instructions -
1) Go to www.4ext.net
2) Download 4ext Recovery Updater from there (free).
3) Run app and flash 4ext Touch Recovery from it. That's all. You can also just get the paid 4ext Recovery Control app from Play Store (worth it bigtime) and flash recovery from there instead of going to the website and doing all that I said above.

I Use 4EXT Recovery Updater And 4EXT Recovery Control. Its Really Good And User-friendly.

+1 for 4ext.
I never use rom manager - I've heard of too many problems

I use 4ext and I really like it. You may also try TWRP, which is also a touch recovery. However, it's a flashable zip so it may be easier for you to install compared the 4ext recovery updater package (probably not much, I'm just used to flashing a lot of ROMs).

I don't think TWRP is available for DHD, is it?

TWRP is available for DHD. I used it for awhile on my Inspire 4G, and it also works for DHD. However, I have had problems installing inspiremod for my Inspire 4G with it. It has Goomanager, which is nice. I use 4ext now though.

Oh cool. I wasn't aware of that. I never saw a thread for it in the development forum. How do you install it? Through GooManager?

dude, 4ext is the best and there is alot of support around recent roms and earlier also. go for it

Niether, try out 4ext recovery... And you have touch screen why not also have a touch recovery

Why should I use 4ext Recovery over ClockWork Recovery? I don't mind but I would like to know the advantages (from your point of view)

Both have touch but 4ext is more intuatuive, all wipes are together and the lay out make more sense. You can customize it by adding many different skins. You can easily change partitions to be formatted to 4ext and go into info to check easily. Backups seem faster and get named not just dated. If you decided to use the app it is also nicer than clockworks app. There are many other perks but if you dont like it, well it takes seconds to change recoveries via fastboot, so why not flash one, see what you think, then flash the other and see what you like better

Once again I've gotta agree with demkantor. I always used CWM Recovery since the G1 and then a few weeks back decided to give 4ext a go... The app was a bit daunting at first, I thought hell why are they so many options just for the recovery, but you don't have to configure everything to a tee. I flashed and rebooted, and never looked back. The big buttons, interface, logical menus, it's just fantastic. Has some really useful options like excluding cache + dalvik from nandroids, and also I love the option to wipe everything bar the fat32 petition, it's so much easier if I'm doing a fresh install.
Also the Vision is officially still supported, I don't think you can even get CWM 6. I tried CWM touch 5.8 (or something like that) and it was horrible.
Just try 4EXT, you won't regret it. Just go to the website, download apk, install apk, choose release candidate, flashes for you, reboot to recovery and smile. Easy as that.
