Hi people.
I was using rom manager for a long time now to backup restore my roms on DHD.
A few days before i try to backup my new rom Blackout ICS Incredible v3.0.0 and my phone freeze.
I went to recovery mode and fix it.
Is there any other app to backup my phone?
Also i notice rom manager update in store.Did they fix this issue ?
Cheers
Use 4ext recovery. It's much better than CWM. It doesn't support as many phones as CWM, but the DHD is one of the few it does. Also any backups you've made with CWM are fully compatible with 4ext. You can get the donation 4ext Recovery Control app from Play Store which has a ton of other features apart from backing up and restoring. Alternatively, if you don't want to pay for the app, you can do everything directly in recovery too. The app is just a frontend to make it easier. Hardly anyone uses CWM + ROM Manager for the DHD anymore because this is better.
Instructions -
1) Go to www.4ext.net
2) Download 4ext Recovery Updater from there (free).
3) Run app and flash 4ext Touch Recovery from it. That's all. You can also just get the paid 4ext Recovery Control app from Play Store (worth it bigtime) and flash recovery from there instead of going to the website and doing all that I said above.

I Use 4EXT Recovery Updater And 4EXT Recovery Control. Its Really Good And User-friendly.
+1 for 4ext.
I never use rom manager - I've heard of too many problems
I use 4ext and I really like it. You may also try TWRP, which is also a touch recovery. However, it's a flashable zip so it may be easier for you to install compared the 4ext recovery updater package (probably not much, I'm just used to flashing a lot of ROMs).
I don't think TWRP is available for DHD, is it?

TWRP is available for DHD. I used it for awhile on my Inspire 4G, and it also works for DHD. However, I have had problems installing inspiremod for my Inspire 4G with it. It has Goomanager, which is nice. I use 4ext now though.
Oh cool. I wasn't aware of that. I never saw a thread for it in the development forum. How do you install it? Through GooManager?

I have been reading people saying that clockwork recovery doesn't wipe cache right and some other stuff. I am also starting to see ROM developers even mention this in their posted ROM's.
I have always used clockwork recovery with no problems. Has anyone even bothered to talk to koush about this problem the recovery has or just dissin his mod?
He seems to update it often and I find it hard to believe he hasn't or wouldn't address this.
Anyone?
I am right there with ya? I have used it and not had issues... Maybe its because I don't get crazy on flipping roms that often?
Version 2.5 fixed all past issues with clockwork mod.
Well I was using clockwork mod....latest version of course....and it didn't seem to wipe davlink cache...so last night I did the research and figured out a quick way to flash between RA and clockworkmod recoveries. It's actually really easy to flip between the two through adb. I do flip between roms from time to time and its nice to use the recovery the developer reccomends.

Help....my clockwork will not let me install the latest recovery ??? What can I do
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
What do you mean latest recovery? Clockwork is a recovery.

I switched to RA after Clockwork recovery tried to strangle me in my sleep. I reported the bug so hopefully it will be fixed in the next version.
I've hopped between Amon and Clockwork, and I like them both. Amon is a cleaner interface (in my opinion) but Clockwork allows you to flash unsigned .zip's, and makes sure that you want to do an action before you do it (i.e. no, no, no, yes, no interface, lololol).
Both are amazing pieces of software.

I use Clockwork because that's what Rom Manager uses. Haven't had a single problem with it as of yet. Very nice to be able to update CM6 nightlies without touching a computer.
Seems like Amon has more features / cleaner interface though.

ROM Manager also allows easy switching as AmonRA's recovery is there as the "Alternate Recovery" on the bottom of the app. It will gladly flash back and forth (I use RA when I am going to update something through any of the CMUpdater-based update apps (DC and Fresh both use these)).
It's important to remember too, that each of the recovery images handle nandroids differently so if you nandroid in one, you have to use that same one to restore.

not really. if you copy the nandroid file from one folder to the other folder, either one will load it.
From my experience, CWM doesn't flash ROMs as well as AR (Failed flashing the CM6 nightly twice, AR got it the first time) and also doesn't have a Wipe Dalvik option, or an as-easy way to mount the SD card.

I never had a failure of flashing a rom, on any recovery, period. That is strange, sounds more like a problem with the rom.
CWM definitely has wipe dalvik option, it's under advanced. I just used it
Again clockwork has never failed me ever! It seems to clear cache fine to me as I have never had a boot loop I couldn't get out of.
So far there apears to be ZERO evidence of an issue with clockwork recovery so I guess I need to start asking developers why they are dissing clockwork recovery or just PM Koush directly.
If there is an issue I just want it to be addressed because I love the recovery and ROM Manager.
Hey chaps,
Well i just want to know which is your prefered recovery?
p.s. the CWM x.x.x.x is 3.0.2.8 (long story)

They have pros and cons. Atm i'm using cwm because it was recommended to flash some rom i wanted to try out, and i was to lazy to reflash AR back. Basically AR hasn't been updated for a while lately (which is not exactly a good thing), but still has (imho) a better menu system (you have to scroll less for performing operations, cause you just have to hit the trackball to confirm) and it's more effective for partitioning your sd (it also allows you to remove your ext or even to upgrade it to ext3 or ext4); it also features more accurate backup options (you are able to backup only your nand if you want). Cwm is still a little bit poor compared to it imho; the only feature it has which is probably better is the scrolling available also via volume rocker and sig verify disable by default when you're s-off, plus i like the orange color it has and the fact that it's made and actively kept up to date by koush, who is a really nice guy
Unless cwm is specifically required, i'd still recommend AR anyway...

hi using AR since a while.
i tested cmw 2513 et 2518 but led to issues so a switched to AR 201 which raised the issues, no matter there isn't update at the moment (and for a while i m afraid) it s still fully functionnal (so why update if so)
CWM 3.0.0.5
updated to 3.0.2.8 recently, not try ra recovery yet
My choice is CWM 2.5.1.8.
I don't like 3.0.0.5 since it doesn't work with amend scripts.
Cwm 2.5.0.7

cwm sucks because you cant formatsd card to ext4
AR 2.0.1 very easy to use and i like using the trackpad/ball for navigation
I'm completely new to rooting and still have a lot to learn.
Today I wanted to check out ROM Manager to search for ROMs - mostly just to try it. Since Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 runs buttery smooth on my DZ I'm not really looking for another ROM at the moment. It runs much faster than Virtuous Unity 2.37 and Virtuous Doubleshot 1.1.6b which I tried out initially.
I used this guide to root my phone after I downgraded it using Setherio's excellent guide and thought I had CWM installed. However, ROM Manager prompts me to install CWM. I double checked the rooting guide and see that it mentions Clockwork Recovery and not ClockworkMod. Are these two not the same thing?
My Clockwork Recovery version is 3.0.2.4 and it works just fine. Will I override this when installing CWM from ROM Manager?
I don't want to break anything now that I managed to get rid of most of the annoying bugs in the official HTC release.
Clockwork and Clockworkmod are the same.
There is a bug in Rom manager in that it doesn't actually look at the recovery partition, it just reports you as having what ever recovery it last flashed.
The rooting instructions does flash recovery, but Rom Manager doesn't realise. There is no harm in overwriting it.
Stick with 3.0.2.4 though, 5.0.x.x is still buggy as hell at the moment for the vision.

Clockwork Recovery and ClockworkMod are the same thing (as is CWM, which is often ised as well).
I'd suggest just flashing the most recent CWM (v3.0.2.4, I think is the latest) via ROM Manager to shut up ROM Manager, it shouldn't hurt anything.

You should check out 4EXT Recovery. It's awesome. I've been using it for two days now and I'm not turning back. It has many additional options, though it's built from CWM. It's the best of ClockworkMod and more.
If you want some more info on it take a look at this thread.

New ClockworkMod Touch Recovery available for HTC Desire.
You can get info from here:

You also get it from here in img format:
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
I've been using 4EXT Touch Recovery for a while now and I don't see myself moving to CWM Recovery any time soon. It's nice to finally see CMW go into the touch interface as 4EXT was based on CWM anyway.
More options for us. Fun!
Downloaded and works flawlessly so far, will be great for people who's buttons are faulty , making flashing new roms so much easier and possible.

You can download the thing for free on his site and install it manually yourself.
The interface is more andoirdy then 4next, but yeah, so much used to 4next by now, thinking only serious curiousity might get me to switch and try it out
But way to go!

absolutely - its free - no need to complain really.
Theres many people that donate to devs, many people that don't - its the same thing
you pay to get it one way (like a donation) or get it free the other way...

No it doesn't. It doesn't look very different from old cwm, text is much bigger, supports touch, that's it. 4ext ui is much, much better.

I have a little problem with the 5.8.0.2 version of CWM Touch recovery.
I use an HTC Desire (bravo) and during the nandroid backup the recovery software says that it can't mount the sd-ext and for this reason it can't backup that data.
Worth giving a try?
i dont like it... i preffer 4ext... its my opinion

Probably ext 4

Both are awesome, but I like CWM more
I've used both and both are great.
I personally find that CWM (ClockworkMod) is a little more straightforward and has a cleaner look to it. CWM now has touch, albeit it's not as feature or interface rich as 4ext's touch interface.
I should point out, however, that using CWM with some ROM's, I was unable to make selections when the ROM gives you options during flashing. For example, when I was flashing a rom that gave the option of installing the OC daemon, CWM didn't give me the option, it just said installation (of the OC daemon) cancelled, whereas 4ext said yes or no, and I was able to choose.
I use ROM Manager (+ premium) from the market to flash back to clockwork mod when I've had 4ext installed, and use 4ext Recovery Control to flash 4ext back.
I would post the links but xda says I can't yet Not new to android or xda by any means, but new to posting
Hope this helps
The recovery is called 4EXT, and that's what you should refer to it, as to avoid any sort of misunderstanding with the "ext4" filesystem.
With that said, 4EXT Touch is the best you can get. It has a lot of bugs fixed over from CWM. It is also fully compatible with ROM Manager.
Link to the 4EXT site: http://4ext.net/
4ext touch is what I prefer. I started with cwm and have mad love for it, but after one of the updates is was working awkward for me and I tried 4ext and never looked back.
I might add cwm is fixed now, and works flawlessly.

They both flash roms fine. So to me, eh who cares? I mean no offense to the respective devs, but I compare it to who makes a better key to my car? Who cares as long as it works. Imho.
P.s. I know some people like fancy keyless entry and keyless start and panic mode.... so for them it makes a difference.
