Sorry if this has been discussed before! I searched and didn't come across a similar thread.
Just curious to see what people think and know about Samsung releasing a laptop dock akin to that which was released for the Motorola Atrix as well as the Asus Transformer attachment. I always thought it was a neat idea and with the horsepower commonly found in today's smart/super phones, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with the concept. If not, this is what it basically looks like:

Anyways, I'm asking because I see a lot of people on here that like to use their Notes as more than a phone; whether it's by connecting it to a TV/monitor via an MHL connector or plugging in extra USB accessories (mice, storage, etc).
What do you guys think? Will Samsung do something like this? Would you guys use it if it were available?
No and No. Phones still don't have enough processing power to rpelace a laptop (trust me, i owned an Atrix and a lapdock for 6 months, using it daily), and very few people would buy an accessory to a phone that is already made to faciliate the use as "more than just a phone" in it's natural form factor.

OMG that is amazing. RedFly done properly. The Note already has both the power and resolution to run as a laptop. I for one would love it. I just bought a collapsable bluetooth keyboard to type better when I'm in a cafe

I'll just leave this here:

BTW, we don't have enough processing power for phones to replace your laptop.
Nor do we have the battery technology to provide an acceptable use.
Nor do we have the software in place to handle these properly.
...in short this is possible with today's technology but VERY VERY quirky, and definitely not worth having.
2 years ago I drafted a proposal for accomplishing this task: To manufacture an Omnia (one do it all device) and my conclusion was for 2 modular devices.
1) Superphone/Smartphone which does most tasks:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=951027#post951027
2) A tablet which converts into an Ultrabook:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=921388post&p=921372
P.S. You can some of my ideas have made their way into actual devices today, such as the Dell Streak, XPlay, Lenovo Yoga, and ASUS Transformer.
(P.S. Those are the latest ones I've posted, they evolved from a long line of mock ups that dates back ~2years. I did update both a while ago but haven't posted up, if there is demand I'll post those up too)

Statements like this do amuse me!
Something like the Note has more power than laptops that were state of the art 7 years ago. People managed to use these for real work "back in the day".
The problem is that most of the productivity apps have become too heavy weight, and for 95% of users they probably only use a fraction of the functionality.

Windows is a big pile of poo that eats resources as its primary mission. Back when I was a student the uni had a 266MHz DEC Alpha that had 400 users on it at any time. It had a monster 4GB of hard drive space and 512MB RAM running DEC UNIX.
My Galaxy Note has similar power! My Commodore 64 had a lot less power and it was great for word processing. But unlike the Note, there was no way it could play 1080p video (with MHL adapter) to a monitor or play 3d games. We hold awesome computing power in our hands. Efficient code (c++ from NDK not Java from SDK) on this phone will kill the need for a laptop.
Android is Linux. And that means it's 5 times as fast as if it ran Windows. Five times is not an exageration. It really is slower than that.

In case you haven't noticed we are in 2012.
Times change and so does the needs of society.
Personal Computing has come a long way from 7 years ago, hell from 3 years ago if you know the industry.
Obviously you were nitpicking one comment of mine.
Yes, it can *be* a laptop and do tasks, but it would much less efficient than using an actual laptop, therefore (by definition) not upto the task!
My Asus Transformer runs like a laptop just fine. I doubt the note would be worse .

Exactly! Bigger screen attachment, then it could run the tab version of ics. Then, apps for tab mode that are better like quickoffice could be used. The tab version of ics (also sorta honeycomb) is a step closer to a full blown laptop, as they are starting to do toned down processes like "hardcore" word processing (that you can actually save in spots and move it ha apple). I know the note has no ics yet, but im talking for the future.
You can run Ubuntu Linux with MHL video adaptor for 1920 x 1080 video and bluetooth keyboard and mouse. You then have a windowing computer with Firefox, Open Office, VLC video and a few other things on screen at the same time.
I'm looking forward to trying it out when I can afford a 64GB SDHC card.

Rather missed the point here didn't get you?
Yes, using a phone as a laptop would be less efficient, but take the Note and stick it in an Atrix style dock, and run a lightweight flavour of Linux, and it becomes much more efficient in that role. I wouldn't want to compile applications on it, but given most business users only tend to use laptops for document creation, email, and web browsing, what you would have is certainly up to that task.
The point is that the hardware is more than capable.

Dave

Yea, I think you're spot on about the device being more than capable of running a lightweight Linux distro.
For me personally, I carry around my laptop right now for school purposes. Making diagrams, light photo editing, productivity suite (Office), etc. If I could just carry around something similar to the lapdock, that would be awesome.
I think there is a market for this since, as someone mentioned above, a lot of users need a laptop for very basic use (web, email, productivity). I'm surprised that Samsung hasn't attempted this yet for their awesome phone lineup.

Something like that would be pretty neat.
openSUSE is my fav distro, rpm > deb. Which is why the delay, restraint and murder of MeeGo was one of the worst things of 2011.
I might be able to help once things get to beta (i really cant afford to brick the NOTE).

So.... how many people here are still running Windows XP? How many enterprises still use Windows XP as their primary client OS? (Hint - look here)
Virtually all enterprises still use XP and Office 2007, and I've seen a few that are still using Office 2003.
Now ask yourself - how old is Windows XP?
Whilst it has obviously been updated over the years, for the most part a PC that ran XP 7 years ago, could still run XP equally well today, even with the latest service packs applied and the user experience is practically unchanged.
In the server space, I'd be willing to bet that Windows Server 2003 installations outnumber later versions, and ditto SQL Server 2005.
In terms of hardware, my late 2010 model Macbook Air, which I use on almost a daily basis for real work has a Core 2 Duo CPU inside, which is an architecture that dates from 2006.
Software hasn't moved on as far as most people would like to think - Wirth's law still very much applies!
Regards,
Dave
Not just windows, the version of office is usually 2003 or even older. The problem aren't those. Using a 7 yo SAP must be a nightmare with krueger, or internet explorer 6 (i can vouch for this one, it was the version i my office). But the hole goes deeper. The fact your Core 2 duo is from 2006 only serves to demonstrate old pcs were stll light years ahead of our Note. Try 2002 and then maybe we're equaling things.

My Pentium 4c 2.4GHZ with Hyper threading runs XP SP3 perfectly well and is MORE than capable of doing everything I would be doing on the go. Asking why someone would want this kind of accessory for there Note is like asking why people by Netbooks or Tablets..... Jeeze. People sure seem to get a lot done with those on the go. My ancient computer described before easily outperforms any experience with a netbook i have had and id rather use a tablet than either... So this device makes sense... although I personally would rather just go get an Asus Transformer Prime myself....
But there is a reason Asus is developing the Padphone thing.... some people arnt savy enough or want to deal with the added time of a file transfering process that is neccesary with two devices.
P.S. Pardon the spelling mistakes. Had to type this up quick

I know this is very random and probably doesn't belong any where around these parts but since I own an evo what the hell. Well I own a windows vista machine its not the most powerful one out there but it served its purpose over the past few years. I'm Im downloading the sdk and I'm looking to get into writting apps for android and taking java/c+ dev classes to help me on my feet. I currently know a great deal about designing i.e photoshop, dreamweaver/css, html and a **** hair about flash/air. I want to make android games as my ultimate goal. So my question to you guys is, what kind of laptops are you devs or general users owning out there? My budget is is 1000 and I'm sure some mac fan boys will say apple but they are way to overpriced it seems as I never owned one so maybe I don't know what the hype is about. I do all my business from a very powerful windows 7 desktop. Like I said I'm just looking for some laptop recommendations from my fellow xda members under 1000 as I plan to kick start my app career with my evo. Thankx

Laptops are practically disposable. I'd say get the best you can for $500 and get a new one in two years with the other $500.
Apple laptops are not overpriced at all if you compare SIMILAR specs... Now i won't comment on the mac pro...
I compared it to a similar size and speced lenovo and there prices were the same..
Programing really isn't that intense... what else do you plan to do on it?
If your desktop will be your main... no need to spend a lot of money on a laptop.

Well I plan to do alot of this on the go as I'm attending college for these course so I need my laptop to be pretty darn strong. As I will be using most of the ish on my desktop(entire adobe suite cs5, maybe a game or 2 but mainly for designing and programming but on the laptop. Adobe products are pretty demanding when it comes to graphics and a good processors. I looked at the MacBook pro and its pretty beast I must say but is it really worth the 1400 just for the 13"? I saw some way stronger laptops with i7 processors alot cheaper. Now my laptop will be my main computer because I wont be packing my desktop around campus lol.

hah yeah... i have the 15". There customer service is the best.( Look at the surveys ) But the biggest advantage of the mac is the weight, and battery life. (i love my 8 hours of web browsing while in class )
I use mine for photography mostly, and some gaming. If you were to buy a macbook por i would wait a month or two... they should be uping that line soon (the 13 inch should be more in line with what others offer)

You could get a pretty powerful Asus with an i7 for that much. I would steer clear of Tiger Direct because most of their stuff is refurbs. They do have some nice deals on lappy's though. Check out Newegg too. They are very good customer service wise and if anything goes wrong during your purchase they are quick to fix it. You are going to get a much better deal online than in your big box stores like Best Buy.

Im gonna have to vote for ASUS also. They have a good range to fit performance or battery life or both. Got an Asus UL50V about 8 months ago, and it gets great battery life (which is what i was going for, about 8-12 hours). It also has a dual video card setup where i can switch on the fly between an integrated card for battery life, or a nvidia for better performance. On top of that, they gave me 1 year free accidental damage coverage.
But, if you are only going to be using it for programming then remember that it's basically word processing until you get to compiling. So unless you are developing massive projects, you won't need anything over the top.
Well, thats my opinion

You're probably right man, my biggest concern is a laptop with a dedicated graphics card at least 512mb preferably 1gb. Most these PC's I see have on the fly dedicated graphics so you can lower it and save battery if you don't need all the performance and switch on onboard graphics.

I know there are a lot of ppl out there like me who are thinking of getting a tablet especially now that we are gonna be bombarded with all sorts of tabs in different sizes, OS' and brands.
personally I wanted to get a Galaxy tab but it just seemed to give me nothing more than a bigger screen than my DHD. now I'm happy that I waited as there seems to be interesting tablets coming out such as HTC Flyer, Galaxy tab 10.1, Motorola xoom, Blackberry playbook, LG optimus pad, iPad 2 ....
I for one wanna know what other DHD owners think about tablets; their arguments in buying or not buying a tablet, price ranges, capabilities and so on.
so please share your ideas.
I will buy a tablet this year. I just dont know which.
I would love to get the HTC Flyer, I think Sense for Tablet looks spiffy, but I'm a bit dissapointed they are not using Honeycomb. Samsung seems to have a nice one... Lets see how much they go for before I decide on anything.
I would buy one if i could afford it but sadly i am a poor student so it won't be anytime soon.
But if i should buy one right now it would probably be the Xoom even though it should be madly expensive well that is if least if the rumors are true ($800!!)
The Flyer also looks nice but that's all i think would very much have liked it with Honeycomb and a dual core CPU, simply because if i have to pick up my tablet instead of my laptop, i at least want it to have a lot of tabs open in the browser + maybe a game or something else and i think a dual core would be better for that.
But buy the time i am buying a tablet the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 2 are probaly out so i think i would go for the Tab sin i have bought far to many apps to go on a new platform.

FYI
HTC confirmed that the flyer will be updated to Honeycomb.
A while back I bought a netbook, as it was easier than going upstairs into the spare bedroom to use the desktop - especially if I just wanted to browse a page or two or check my email. I then got a smartphone, as I could check email, and browse the odd page a lot easier. The next step does seem to be to get a tablet. However I dont think I need one. Then my nephew came to stay for the weekend, he brought his ipad with him (hes only 5 years old!!). He spent his time on my phone, and I spent some time on his ipad. I got to admit, being able to pick up a tablet and start surfing within a few seconds is really convenient. Also with the bigger screen it was easier, and more readable.
I dont need one, but will probably get one - it wont be an ipad/ipad2 - but probably an android tablet. The motorolla xoom, if it was cheaper. I am willing to spend £300, no more than that on a tablet. The htc flyer also looks good, if it could be linked tightly to a phone, i.e. sync apps, app data between tablet and phone...then that may sway me to go with a htc tablet.

thats an interesting point, to go with the same platform or not. it is nice to have the same platform as your phone which would give you some advantages such as using your apps and the fact that you are comfortable with it. but I for one wanna have something a bit different so it would just be bigger screen. maybe Honeycomb can serve the purpose since its not gonna be a smartphone OS.

yes, having your phone linked with your (future) tablet seems to be an essential point. I liked how this was implemented in Blackberry's Playbook where you can sync (almost instantly) with your blackberry through bluetooth. so yeah I hope for android and HTC it goes beyond syncing contacts and calendar.

In that case, Im getting it.
I use tomtom for navigation, a pda for personal stuff, a netbook for quickly surfing the web at night, and used to have a nokia x6 abviously for phone calls, games and navigation. When I bought my DHD, I dont use those mentioned gadgets anymore as the DHD does it all. What will a tablet do that my DHD cannot do? A bigger screen I suppose, I'll just use my netbook. So I dont think I need a tablet. My DHD is plenty enough.

Can there be Sense for Honeycomb? I've heard rummors that Google had gone the Apple and WP7 way in terms of third party UIs. Or am I mistaken?
I personaly think 7" are a little too small - worse than 4.3" in terms of mobility (for me even the 5" Dell is too much) and worse than 10" in terms of the big screen experience the tablets are supposed to provide (something like comparing the tiny iPhone's screen to the DHD). On the other hand Sense and alluminum body... sounds like a DHD on steroids .

If the HTC Flyer gets upgraded to a quad core or decent tegra chip, or something future friendly, then I'll probably go for it.
Edit: Ah, I didn't see your post Iachimo - we posted at a similar time - nice pic.
But i agree the specs are a tad weak when u compare it with the current competition. Allthough im pretty sure its a "feeler" product just so see how the market responds and what user difficulties the owners run into. Six months later they will try to launch the 10'' version (probably with dualcore and integrated gpu (wouldnt count on tegra))

True true, that seems to be what HTC has been doing, and I must admit its pretty annoying when they announce something and then 3 month later they release 10 better devices. I was looking at videos from the Barcelona congress and HTC has at least 4-5 more devices than all other manufacturers! I'm not sure I wanna go down the same road with tablet that I did with the phone (btw I had the desire befire DHD)

Either way though that old LG you have to admit is not lagging at all with a single core snapdragon. And my Titan which still has a single core kicks it's butt royally (The LG and is right on par with the dual core Galaxy S2 and the new iphone 4s).

I don't have that option.
XDA is so full of subfora that it's hard to get exposure on some issues which might concern all the fora. That's why I put it in general and put redirect threads which is a common practice done on XDA.

That person is also on tweakers.net (a dutch community), it was later confirmed he had faulty software because of all the crap he had installed. A hard reset solved his issues.
the iPhone 4 is also a single core 1GHz device.

Malware? lol (little poke on that one)
One thing about windows phone is only 5 or 6 apps can run at a time without being tombstoned and the apps cannot effect the o/s
I don't have an SG S2 but i have seen many android phones with high amounts of lag. (felt like i had sticky fingers at times). How is the battery life on it? (with video background i would imagine not as long as it could be)
My biggest gripe though with android is that it doesn't seem to flow from one thing to another. I've setup exchange on 4 different androids at my work in the last 4 months. one was cupcake ... i know ewe... but in each of these, the setup was in different areas. Sometimes it integrated calendars also after an update which the user did not want. One droid broke its exchange connection with an update until google 4 months later released another fix for it (May have been carrier fault but it still took forever which did not make the admin assistant very happy since she booked appointments for the ceo) Needless to say between that and the lag (which for her was probably 60% the crap apps she downloaded) made that phone the last android she would own. She (even though i tried to talk her toward windows phone) went to an iphone 4S. She is however jealous of all the cool free apps i have (most of the iphone ones were paid) and she misses the free apps she had on android, but for stability she is satisfied.
Oh and my Titan only cost me 1 cent with 2 year agreement. She paid heavily for the iphone. Not sure how much SG2 goes for.

My mistake. They gave that option to recognized developers. For some reason I thought they gave it to everyone.
Rules in the dev sections are more strictly enforced, which is where I spent alot of time between 2009 to August of 2011. I still frequent the dev sections, but am not flashing ROMs twice a week anymore so I spend less time there.
Rule 5 in particular is why you are not supposed to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81

Actually he tried to root it with the wrong kernel, but dream on.
And it took the wrong kernel? Surprized. Most phones won't boot in that case. He got lucky.

1) lag - nice myth, keep it flowin ! (not new)
2) battery life on all smart phones in use is not great. (not new)
3) you mean, like keeping 7+ applications going at once, so you can get directions to a customer, while on the phone, sending an email with said directions along with a PDF they need, directly in the email ? (not new, but not all phones can)
4) i'm sorry you had to use cupcake, really, almost as sorry you have to still use exchange (personal, also not new)
5) just more of 4)
6) just putting the blame where it's convenient ? (not new)
7) see 1), good for her finding a platform that fits great and works great (ios is new everyday)
8) the ios apps are much higher quality, and the huge selection means the tagline "there's an app for that" is still true (not new)
8) continued - if she's setting up things for the ceo, i doubt she, or he, cares less about the cost being $.99-3.99 for the vast majority of very well developed, mature, supported applications available on ios.
9) 'only 99cents on contract' - math (not new, but neglected)
i understand everyone likes one platform over another for personal, business, and sometimes financial reasons. that's fine. if you can't see the benefit of using ios for corporate clients, wether or not you like the platform, something is amiss.

1) Not myth... they would pause and churn. Especially when scrolling. (they weren't all the latest and greatest either as they were ones the consumer picked up.)
2) My sisters Android (not sure which one she has as she is out of state but i see her complaining on facebook about it) lasts 4 hours with medium usage. My titan lasts 15 with heavy.
3) for flow i mean. In one verion of the OS - Email is in one place, in another it's somewhere else. Depends if you have touchwiz, sense ect, and what version of android.
4) cupcake was VERY slow. As for exchange... why sorry? Exchange 2010 kicks butt. not our fault google broke active sync for a few months.
5) Was an example of 4
6) result of example and explaining it may have been her fault but android let her do it.
7) Stability was the plus for her. Free apps though was not with IOS.
8) When you lived in a free world, it gets hard to pay for EVERYTHING useful. Also I work for a nonprofit... she doesn't get paid that much.
9)It was really 1 cent on Blackfriday special. not 99 cents. That was meant for those that complain Windows phone is so expensive.

Thats how my wifes performs. Stutters here and there. And its not faulty cause we got it back from support center. Contacts list and more stutters. And the kinetic scrolling is crap
But it seems all device perform different.

Wait for couple of months to get may be Nokia Lumia 1000 which works with WP8. There is no upgrade to WP8 from WP7.5. We will get upgrade to WP7.8 but not WP8.
Make a choice.. if you need a phone that will be obsolete this year.. go for it.. else wait for new one which will be released soon.
Still gonna get one. Like the design. Has everything I want in a phone. Not b

Think about it.
Even 2 years from now 85% of the wp devices will still be 7.8. Im fine with it. There will still be apps.
I got my luma 900 just a month ago .. and I kinda knew they probably won't upgrade it due to hardware limitations of current devices.
NFC
Pureview 808 Camera
Dual core support
Front facing camera excluding the lumia 900 for kinet features
as to name a few........
But there are rumours that Nokia might support its phone to further extent than microsoft, specially the lumia 900 as it does have a front facing camera, so we might get the kinet like experience.
7.8 may be like What Vista did for XP.. cosmetic change. All we are getting is the New screen with resizeable Tiles with 3 different sizes

I suppose this growing pain could be averted if they offered a trade up program. I rather not pay full off contract price + sell on lumia900 on ebay.
I'm also concerned that I'll be left out of new apps
Its a nice phone but...
Is it worth buying one just for the sake of having one, when you can get a better one in just couple of months? Moreover if you want to unlock it, you might have to wait till October and by then a new Lumia with WP8 will be there?
Anyway you will be paying $99 or $499 for this now or same later for a new one!
I say exercise your choice and get one if you want one.

Not going to happen in the next 12 months. The first wave of WP8 nokias are going to use MSM8960, which supports camera modules up to 20Mpix, not 40Mpix, which is required for PureView PRO .. 3x zooming, oversampling, and all that good stuff.
So.. unless Windows NT can do what the Symbian core can, and they can put that same set up GPU+Companion DSP chip inside the camera module.. I don't see how they will have one ready before 2013.
The only way the 808 is able to do all that on a old ARM11 CPU, is because Symbian is very modular and they are able to control 2 graphic processors. That is what you get with "in house" software platform.. real innovation. Now we have to wait for "off the shelf" components to get things moving forward.

I just got my lumia 900 and to be honest, if you want to have the latest stuff you dont ever buy anything!!! You'll be just waiting for the next 'better' device to come out.
Phones are like pc's, when you walk out of the store it's old and there's "much better" hardware available.
I do like to have the latest stuff but i allso want to be able to make a call. So i have my new Lumia 900 as my main phone and a HTC HD2 to flash whatever i want on it.
And to be honest i do have doubts about WP8 coming out that soon.
Just said my piece on why you SHOULD get a Lumia 900:

I actually posted the same comment to another forum as I don't understand why people feel that we should have no reason to be upset over this news. I agree that I don't want a crappy OS and I believe that obviously I can't get OS functionality for a phone that doesn't have the NFC or other hardware to make it work. That being said if you just bought a pc 2 months ago and Microsoft came out saying you couldn't upgrade it to Windows 8 many people would legitimately be very upset.
The best part about it is to make Windows 8 compatible with previous PCs (many many hardware combination) requires quite a bit more code/drivers then making a Windows Phone OS compatible with Gen 2 devices that have very similar hardware. We are not talking about Android where there are hundreds of hardware combinations.
The other thing that bothers me is that everyone is talking about how they don't want a crappy user experience. Well I don't buy into that argument as Microsoft is allowing and encouraging low end devices for future Windows Phone devices. For example they are allowing less memory (256MB) then first asked for. The even allowed this pointing out that it would not allow certain apps to run. Now less then 6 months later every one is saying the upgrade is linked to performance concerns. If this will not be possible to run Apollo then why did they just start this trend?
I have seen companies say that upgrades are not possible and then due to pressure turn around and deliver perfectly working upgrades. I think this is a matter of don't want to versus can't be done.
I think that if Microsoft can deliver a new properly performing Kernal then the Gen 2 devices should receive it with the functionality that works with the hardware in those devices. If someone says it can't be done well they do it for Windows so it is possible.

Agreed. I get that the OS may be missing functionality because I lack certain hardware, im not asking for new hardware. Im just asking that I get ALL the functions possible so I am not out in the cold when apps come out that are compiled specifically for WP8 but don't need the new hardware to run them because the developer chose not to make 2 different versions.
So you want people to wait six months for a new phone, because the L900 won't get some features that won't work on the device anyway.
Hey, you know what. Get an Android. They all have at least a two year upgrade path, right?

Sorry, not exactly sure what you are saying about 6 months... Who is saying wait six months for a new phone? I am saying build an update for the Lumia, not hold off on Windows Phone 8.
The funniest part is everyone's response is "get another phone".... We are talking about a Microsoft product. The life cycle of the Xbox has been from 2005 until now with all updates going to all versions of the console.
Windows 7 operates on computers with only a 1 Ghz single core processor and 1 GB of RAM and Windows 8 preview requirements are the same.
The Lumia has a 1400 MHz (1.4Ghz) processor and 512 MB of ram ( and remember one set of hardware is easy to optimize versus the combinations on a pc) and yet they say the Kernal/ OS cannot be ported.
A follow up to the argument about missing hardware would once again be you don't see Microsoft not allowing computers to update to Windows 8 with a single core or restricting updates because they don't have an SSD or a certain video card or even a camera.
So far I don't see one legitimate reason why the OS can't be ported and there is no denying that it hurts Nokia and it hurts the sales of all the Windows Phone 7 in the mean time.
Finally, to address the comments about how the phone does everything it did before well once again how would you feel if your Blu-ray player couldn't get the latest update to play a new Blu-ray. I mean it will still turn on, play the movies you already bought so what is the difference... What about a GPS? Why offer upgrades? It still turns on, does navigation, why not buy a new GPS to get updates? I am sorry to put it to this level but once again I don't think anyone has the right to criticize that people are upset about this decision.

Well said! People buying Windows 7 PCs now will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 when it comes out for $14.99.
I got my Lumia 900 for free as a replacement for a faulty X7, but for those in the market for a phone, someone give me a reason why they should buy now instead of waiting until WP8 is out?
MS pretty much brought a "sales pause" upon itself. Hopefully this doesn't turn to become Nokia's final knockout blow!

I'm not refering to what OS you run on what hardware m8.
The only thing i'm saying is if you want to wait for wp8 you'll probably still be waiting when it comes out because wp9 will be anounced 6 months later...
I've been here before with the HTC HD2 as they sold it being candidate for an upgrade to wp7. If it was'nt for XDA i would be still running WM6.5 on it.
I'm not saying it's a great move from Microsofts side but i just need a functional phone so i'm not that excited about it all though it's a shame for such new devices to be left out of the update (the lumia 900 isn't the only device this applys to).
Nokia has already came out and said anything that is not hardware dependent they will bring to the Lumia 900. MS hasn't even released all the new features in WP* yet so none of us really knows yet what we will be getting in 7.8. Hell some new android phones don't even ship with the newest software and you have to root it to get it. I for one think Nokia will keep updating the Lumias if for no other reasons to keep up the goodwill as thye have for the updates they have already released. Lets let the dust settle before we hang them out to dry completely. If you want go back to Android or iPhone then more power to you. I would still rather have my Lumia than any of them.

My Macbook has been nothing but great for college no slow starts, its there when you require it, will not freeze or let you down when you most need it. Theres less malware viruses ect for it so you feel a little more secure. Apple support is a plus this guys will fix any problem you have within warranty and aslong as you did not brake anything on purpose. Besides you can install virtual machine and run windows 8, xp, vista ect its like you have two computers in one.

Besides you can install virtual machine and run windows 8, xp, vista ect its like you have two computers in one.

Or you could build a hackintosh for home. Sandybridge has made building and using one with lion a piece of cake. Under 300 bucks for a nice mac mini performance machine. It's funny how people won't admit to owning any apple products in these threads for fear of being pounced on. At least this section seems better than most.
What kind of job do you have that they would use mac? Macs suck at business stuff

I have a MacBook unibody the one before the retina display have never had any problems. I recommend going to the apple store and trying them out on display.. Besides most people don't like Mac and yet they have never owned one.. So just try it out because what matters is what you want not what me or some one else likes... If you have a question just let me know Id be glad to answer

I work in IT and use them all the time. Actually fixing one right now. And from an IT stand point Macs are no good for buis. And you can run multiple OS's on any PC. That is not a Mac thing they just advertise it because they know you will need windows for something
Once you go MAC you don't go back to "PC"
been in IT since 1982.. been on MAC at my home office for 4 years now. I have 6 laptops of my own and 4 MACS also. 2 mbp, 1 macro, and 1 new while unibody for daughter at college.. I have serviced all pc's from Southern Cali to Washington DC. I have yet to fully need to break down a mac any place ... only hard drives if that. When I repair PC'S laptops at Colleges its always a windows' machine. The reason I switched over was the virus issues with PCs and the constant WTF i need to update today before I start working on my PC. Sure they both have trojans and mail ware. But PC's have viruses and MAC's do not. Meaning PC's can be made inoperable by malicious software a lot more often were as MAC will be used as pons in a greater hacking plan with implanted trojans.... but still operate. Many times without the user ever knowing. Last reason .. economics... take a look at the income scale of MAC user's .. usually a lot higher than your typical PC user. By no means am I saying PC users don't make more money than MAC users.. just are usually in my field experience in a more lucrative high paying career position than a trade "job". Granted you defiantly have infinite more options of software and best of breed hardware options building PC's. If you want to do what you want how you want .. build your own PC box. If you want to power up and get to work on the reason you power'd up every time you power up with out having to restart our machine after using it for extended periods of time opening and closing apps.. going in and out of hibernation/sleep mode for days on end..... MAC is the way to go. .................... on last note.. the pc are great .. mac's are great... the internet is bases off UNIX not DOS. MAC is based off UNIX. If dos went away.. PC would rule hands down. truly its not the hardware man.. its the software that's the issue. I for all OS's merging closely into one within the next 20 years... each upgrade of windows it becomes more MAC. its just how it goes. even Ubuntu with its unity desktop is following suite as well. out of all the computers in my home only one 2 year old Sony has Windows 7 Ultimate on it to flash my GPS and Pimped out Epizzal 4G's Touch.. LOL.. everything else Runs on OS-X and UBUNTU... .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
Did you guys know that in a few years windoze will be releasing Microsux X ... I had to contribute!
Switched in 2010 and haven't looked back since. 2010 MBP upgraded to 8Gb of RAM and a 256Gb Crucial SSD, its been plenty fast, and loaded Win7 on it, but recently pulled that off and put XP on instead.
I was so impressed with it when my PC bit the dust I replaced it with a 27" iMac.
Lol just do Hackintosh. I have one and it beats the crap out of my friend's mac. Go for SB-E and then buy an IB-E cpu.

same here... neVAAAAA going back to PC........ have the same 15 MBP did the same upgrade...also insalled Lion.. it just plain flies............
tried to bog it down by 1. dowloading 25 gigs torrent 2. burn 8.5 dvd 3. streaming music 4. streaming hd video 5 running AI to edit newspaper add 6. surfen web news sites 7. 3 machines RDP 8. backing up data to NAS 9. apple checking for updates.. ALL AT SAME TIME. AND THE MACHINE JUST KEEP SAYING "BRING IT!! BRING IT!" no lag what so ever!.
Sorry PC's.. since I'm not a big PC gamer.... My switch has been a long time coming.. I wish they would start the IM A MAC / PC commercials again too funny.. but all of them true. LMAO.:highfive:
No it's not true because you're comparing computers with intel processors that are far superior to all its predecessors. I can do the exact things you stated with my Core i7-920 machine with no hiccups as well because the jump from Core 2 duo/quad to first gen i7s was 20% increase in performance on average. 2nd generation and 3rd generation are 10-20% better than the first gen nehelams (depending on task).
It does not matter if it's a PC or a Mac. You'll be hard pressed to make any modern CPU from Intel or AMD choke in any way unless you're doing the most demanding of tasks where intel completely dominates.
An updated windows 7 machine from a QUALITY manufacturer (not the cheap hp/dell stuff in retail stores) will last as long as any MBP. There is a reason the commercials stopped. It just didn't work anymore against the improvements in Win 7.
Also i live in the state capital of CA and have family with seniority positions within the gov't and let me tell you. Even though literally everyone has an Ipad...
Out of the thousands of computers, I did not ever encounter mac's in huge quantities. Only windows or custom OS's.
Side note #1 - MBP's use SSD's which allow for insanely fast response times.
#2 - They do get viruses / malware and are usually the fastest to be hacked in any hacking competition due to extensive security vulnerabilities that they take forever to patch which is also one of the main reasons the PCvMac commercials stopped when MS got its act together.

Mac desktops are PCs... You know a personal computer. Just like Dells, HPs, Sony and the like. OSX is pretty but I'm not paying an arm and leg for a name brand. It's like Air Jordan sneakers. Every year its the same hing different colour higher price. Sometimes add some need giltz and glam.

Just bought both an MBA 13" 2012 edition and the Asus Zenbook UX31A. It's my first time using a Mac and I've been a pro-PC person all my life, but I can honestly say that the Air is better than the UX31A, which is the top Ultrabook out right now. The specs are pretty identical, but this is a lot more intuitive and they are basically the same price.
But since this thread is about Android phones, I'll say that I usually just run Parallels to Windows 7 for my Android stuff because I CBA figuring out how Heimdall works instead of Odin haha. Otherwise, I think it's basically the same. Macs are pretty good with automatically finding drivers.
