Cifs manager - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Has anyone gotten cifsmanager to mount a local samba share successfully? Every time I try I'm told no media exists.
I used the default /mnt/cifs/ directory and root, neither work.

I thought cifs was only enabled for certain devices, usually via a custom rom? I have not heard of cifs compatibility with the prime.

oh I have no idea. I just use it on my nook color and was hoping that it would work on my galaxy nexus.

Can anyone confirm?
Do I just need root access (which I already have) or do I have to be running a custom ROM in order to mount samba shares?

You need a kernel that supports CIFS (in addition to root), then you can mount via commandline or though an app.
An example is Faux's 0.9

Can I use the stock ROM with an alternative kernel?

You can, though take care to ensure the kernel is compatible with your version of stock android.

I'm in the same situation. I thought it was my problem, but it looks like either a problem with the stock kernel, then the nexus.
then you confirmed to me that the original kernel is impossible to operate with CifsManager?
Anyone has tried successfully to change kernel with the original ROM?

It should be no problem. I have changed kernels in other custom ROM's and changing a kernel in the stock ROM should be the same. But if you are running 4.0.2, make sure the kernel is compatible with that version.

Issues with custom kernels

For some odd reason I cannot flahs any custom kernels. Whenever I flash some rom, the included kernel will work just fine. But if I flash another one, like franco or matr1x, I end up in bootloop, or stucks at boot. Anyone else experienceing this behaviour?
You need to make sure you flash a kernel that is built for the version of android you are using.
For example ARHD 2.1.1 is 4.0.2 so you can not use the Matr1x v1.5 kernel because it is built for 4.0.3
Always read the OP before flashing, the info is there
Edit: messed up my version numbers

I have the same problem - no matter what kernel I use or how I try to install it I have yet to find one that will work with a stock version of ICS 4.0.2 on my phone - they always freeze at the boot screen, I don't get any further.
I have indeed checked versions before flashing.

[XXLE4]Issue with custom kernel - disturbing reboots
Hi everyone,
I am facing an huge issue that make me unable to flash any custom kernel without rebooting.
I though it was because brand new XXLE4 cannot support 1k+ frequencies or may be another things than I could not have been imagine because of my poor informatic and linux knowledges but it seems that i am just unable to flash custom kernel. only the original CF-ROOT doing his job but others aren't.
May be because of the SetCPU apps but it is less sure that the origin take his effect from that apps. It is a quit anoying because I would have been set my Scary 120 - 1350 to get an impressive battery life with the brand new UC-Kernel but seems to be a mirage for me.
I had got some custom roms but I can't just use them because I want an real free-bugs ROM an official release are the only one option for me and my usual usage.
Thanks in advance for the help provided and I apologies for my bad english.
maybe EXT format?

4.0.2? I believe no custom kernels support 4.0.2 anymore. Updated/latest versions of said custom kernels at least. I think franco has a 4.0.4 version of his though i'm sure very few people are on 4.0.4, 4.0.2 is just a thing of the past.

[Q] Tether Options

Greetings,
I'm currently rooted with my Sprint Galaxy S2, however the tether option isn't working. I'm using the ROM here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609255) on my phone. Can anyone shed some light on this one? Just not available in this ROM or what?
Thanks,
USMarineNCO
Wired or wireless tethering? And to what?

Easy Tueffel. You can use the Foxfi (market) or Wifi Tether (search it) apps. If you use Wifi Tether, set the device profile to Samsung Galaxy nexus (CDMA/LTE).

I believe that you flashed a stock rooted rom that does not include the hacked tethering apps.
You may want to consider switching back to Gingerbread if you're just starting out.
Here are the steps for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24158551&postcount=9980
After that, you can flash a custom rom with wifi tethering already hacked.
Edit: The rom you downloaded is ICS based. If you're just learning about flashing your phone, you may want to switch over to Gingerbread based roms using the instructions I provided. It is far safer for a newbie NOT to try ICS until they're ready.
I'm currently running this GB Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837
I wouldn't recommend trying to flash it directly unless you use the method above to get on the correct platform first. ICS and Gingerbread are different operating systems.

Im guessing that your are using a custom kernel. Some don't support usb OTG. Check if the kernel supports it, otherwise flash a kernel that does. For instance ICS siyah, thoravukk support using it. Cf-root kernels as well since they are mostly stock

[Q] Kernel for stock rom with iptables

Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to keep Proxydroid work, but without success
I have a rooted Gaalxy nexus with JB 4.2 stock rom and stock kernel. Now i want to try latest chance.. a custom kernel.
I think the problem is the iptables, so can I put a custom kernel on stock rom? Which kernel can I put on phone?
Thank you so much
I don't know about Proxydroid, but i used Tor without issues.
Are you using 2.6.3? How about emailing the developer about it? Supposedly, latest version fixes 4.2 compability issues.
And wasn't iptables ROM related?

Yes I'm using 2.6.3 but it doesen't work. In other LG Optimus Dual only rooted (Stock firmware and stock kernel) with GB and same version of Proxydroid all works fine. The developer seems not answer in the thread of proxydroid
So I suppose that is a problem with iptables or Android JB 4.2 in general. I want to try with other kernel before to try CM10 (I wish to keep stock ROM)
If anyone use a custom kernel that support netfilter with a stock ROM please tell me.. Thank you

Will try Air Kernel and report back tomorrow. Im also suspecting on port of my gn coz some time it detected when i slightly move the cable through Stick Mount but does'nt give me any notification in notification bar. I also change the OTG cable but nothing. Currently i am using AOKP mr1 build 2 with its stock kernel(lean).
That's nice. no need to report back
Just found that its working with Xylon 18 with its stock kernel but still not detecting mouse dono why?
OTG works with any stock kernel of the GalNex. It finds MassStorageDevices fine and works great with keyboards and mice. The only issue is it doesn't mount the MassStorageDevices. If you're rooted enough to get a custom kernel you're rooted enough to take 5 seconds and mount the device yourself. Still no mounting in the stock 4.2.1 kernel though so you can only use MassStorageDevices with root.
